Lots of tomatoes coming on the tomato hanging baskets
We plant our tomatoes into Levington M2 compost.
Tomatoes need plenty of food when they start to flower.
We recommend Vitax fruit and flower which is much stronger than traditional tomato feed.
We’re here to help with garden and planting advise, just ask!
We are open seven days a week 10am - 4pm.

every now and then I see posts from artists who lament that they crave to draw all day long and when they finally have time for it in the evening, their brains suddenly don't want to draw anymore. let me share an observation I made about myself
In general, I have the most ideas when I'm the most stressed. During a busy period at work I will imagine vividly all the silly things I will draw when I'm finally free. And thinking about all those possible drawings makes me feel good, because I think they will be good and I really want to draw them, and as a result I gain some energy and motivation to continue with my current task
What I'm trying to say is. If you're an artist, you probably love to draw. So when your brain is stressed and experiences unpleasant feelings, thinking about drawing will counter those feelings and help you feel better
And, it's only natural that once you're after work and no longer worried about deadlines and coworkers, your brain no longer needs to counter the stress, so it no longer feels the need to think about drawing. Simply relaxing might become a more urgent need and that's fine too
Not all drawings in your head are meant to be made real; some of them exist just for you, to help you with your day, and I think that's beautiful
#wondering how many of you can relate#destroy the shame from unfinished works! it won't bring anything good#my summer job at that one tomato farm was so bad that at one point i basically hallucinated a whole ass new OC out of thin air#between the tomato bushes#wild times

so idk if i mentioned this but i got really into gardening this year. i've wanted to grow my own vegetables ever since i was a kid and now i have a garden i can actually do it. so i went all out. i grew tomatoes and strawberries and courgettes and peppers (they didn't go so well, wrong climate) and i spent weeks digging up the bamboo that the former owners planted (top tip: NEVER PLANT FUCKING BAMBOO, IT'S THE DEVIL'S PLANT) so i would have more room to grow things and it was SO FUN going out and picking my own food straight out of the garden, being like 'hmm i kinda feel like lettuce' and then just. going and grabbing some from the garden. AMAZING!!!
anyways then i went on holiday for two weeks and my family did not really take care of my garden while i was gone (fair, not their job) and the wind trashed my plants so i kinda lost enthusiasm cos it was all wrecked, and then all my tomatoes got a disease due to irregular watering because i couldn't be bothered going out there to water them every night, and THEN it was winter. so i lost interest and now i only go out into the garden to put potato peelings in the compost bin
and i was sat here like damn, i really hope that gardening wasn't just a short-lived obsession because it's easily one of the coolest hobbies i've had and also gets me away from the Horrors, aka, screens and the internet, and also let's be real, i spent way too much money on compost and plant pots, so it'd really suck if i never do that again, especially because everyone says the first year you grow your own food it's not really helpful financially cos all the supplies cost so much, it's only when you've been doing it for a year or two and figure shit out and don't have to start from scratch that it starts saving you money. so like. it would be nice to actually reap some financial benefits of what was a very expensive hobby lmao. (i bought OVER TWO HUNDRED LITRES OF COMPOST. IT SOUNDS LIKE A LOT BUT UNFORTUNATELY IT'S REALLY NOT, ESPECIALLY WHEN MOST OF YOUR GARDEN IS PATIO SO YOU HAVE TO GROW EVERYTHING IN CONTAINERS)
ANYWAY tl;dr the switch flipped in my brain again and i spent an hour today looking up different kinds of runner bean. there's a variety called firestorm, so obviously i'm gonna have to try and grow that. and i'm mentally planning out everything i'm gonna grow and now i'm chewing on the bars of my enclosure cos i can't start growing anything until april >:( boooooo
#i also really wanna grow different kinds of tomato#i had 8 cherry tomato plants this summer and it was GREAT. i never had to buy tomatoes. which was useful cos i eat a lot of them#but i wanna branch out (pun absolutely intended) and grow some of the cool-looking ones#i found some black ones. emo tomatoes!! i wanna grow them so bad!!#and i wanna see if my strawberries are more productive this year cos apparently they don't do much in their first year#i'm excited to try beans cos i've not tried those yet. and hopefully my peppers will do better this year...#and i'm also gonna try companion planting and weave some flowers in among it all for the pollinators!! I'M SO HYPED#i'm also gonna try and grow some more fruit this year cos that shit is EXPENSIVE#i'm not gonna do that from seed though. i'm gonna buy a couple of fruit trees. you can get raspberry bushes that are designed to grow in#pots. same with blueberries. my friend is gonna get me a blueberry bush for christmas!! so i just need to get the compost. they need acidic#soil. GAHHHH I CAN'T WAIT#pls brain. don't let this obsession die by the time i can actually get out there and grow things

Just a few of my favorites in the garden lol the berries are doing OKAYISH. The peas are popping off lol the only problem is I don’t remember which ones are which anymore LMAO I believe there are also some cucumbers trying to grow in there but the ants never let us have any EVER. So, I'm don't wanna get my hopes up lol
I'm trying really hard to keep up with our garden this summer. Last year, I didn't water it enough :( Everything growing in this garden was either from scraps or on clearance from the store. My husband has a knack for bringing the dying plants back to life lol

Normal people would be arguing about whether or not a tomato is a fruit while I seethe in the corner because a large majority of vegetables are actually fruit but are called vegetables literally for aesthetic reasons and it kills me
#tomatoes are fruit but also CUCUMBERS ARE FRUIT#THEYRE THR FRUIT OF A PLANT NOT THE ACTUAL PLANT THEYRE FRUIT#i get really worked up about fruit and veggie classification talk#FRUITS GROW ON TREES OR BUSHES OR VINES TOMATOES GROW ON VINES#AND CUCUMBERS GROW ON VINES AND WATERMELONS AND GRAPES AND MELONS AND#ok I’m less angry now#ghost was here

Gardening tip: Don't refrigerate tomatoes if you can help it. It destroys the flavor and texture. I wish the damn stores would figure that out.
Freeze, can, or share them if you want to eliminate waste from growing more than you can eat.

Built the bed up some more so the landlord is less likely to mow it over this time
Some of these seeds are getting started later in the season then they should be, some are 4+ years old, all have been stored terribly between many moves so, uh, we'll see what happens

Is it just me or does this place kind of look like it's dying?
Uh oh. I hope this isn't the start of a black hole.
Fun Fact 2: It's easier to kill these by overwatering than underwatering.
Yes I'm coping let me bottom water them at the lake aaaaaaaah

Today, on bugs I found:
HORNWORMS. THE BEST WORMS. You got tomatoes? You might have hornworms! They're the biggest, cutest, softest little foliage tubes to ever sport a little butt horn.
BEHOLD.
And there's a baby hornworm! Look at the little guy with his big ol' horn half the size of his body! What are you gonna do with that, little guy? Are you gonna scare some predators with that thing? Yes you are!
And there's more! It's the middle of summer and our backyard is teeming. Here's the katydid on the glass door. Might be missing a leg?
There be spiders next. But if you can get through the spiders, there's one more.
There's what seems to be an orb weaver in my petunias? Except she's not moving a lot, and she's clinging to this stem. I was able to pluck out a looper caterpillar that was right next to her, and she didn't react much.
The second one is next to the door, and Google is calling it a "false widow". It bites, but meh, its heart isn't in it like the "real" widows.
Lastly...the mantis in my fuschias stand tall! Mantis buddy has grown so much. They stand above many defeated spiders who are no longer a threat to their stature. Aphids flee in their presence. Prosper, mantis buddy! Protect the fuschias!
