Elton John - Tumbleweed Connection (1970)
Fifty-four years ago today, on October 30th, 1970, Tumbleweed Connection, the third studio album by Elton John, was released. A concept album based around Americana and country and western themes, Tumbleweed Connection was written and recorded before John and writing partner Bernie Taupin had ever visited the US. A success out of the gate, the record peaked at number two in the UK and at number five in the US, despite the fact that no singles from the album were issued in either country. Now recognized as one of John’s best works, the meandering, mesmerizing album plays like a great soundtrack for a western that was never filmed. On John’s Farewell Tour of 2002-03, only one non-single was on the nightly playlist—“Burn Down the Mission,” the tenth and final track from the album.

What I love about Hellboy and Abe Sapien's dynamic in the comics is that, if you came into this blind, you'd expect Abe to be the voice of reason or the straight man to Hellboy's impulsive and hotheaded personality. But no, Abe is more often than not the crazy one. Hellboy would deal with fighting evil monsters and bad guys by just sighing and getting it over with, while Abe is going rabid over tearing the creature apart when he does get into a fight. Hellboy acts like it's a 9-to-5 job and will reasonably talk things out with a guy that had nearly killed him before, Abe acts like a madman in a slaughter house and his first instinct is to shoot first kill second and ask third. They're both insane, but on completely different levels.
#wheres that one comic where abe gets into a mission and has to tear down a monster with an axe#then at the end when hellboy appears and sees abe going ham while covered in blood. he's like ''oh hey abe. good job you're doing there''#hellboy was not even worried for a second. he trusts abe to handle things on his own#they both trust each other to do their job but they also know when they can handle a fight on their own and will help if needed.#their trust and bond with each other is so implicit but speaks volumes. they dont need to say anything. they just know#we talk so much about hellboy being like. an alright guy and a whole lot kinder than the world treats him. and that's right#but it really does make Abe look fucking batshit wild in comparison because of it#the entirety of the abe sapien comics is that the guy is on his hinges and the only thing keeping him sane before was his job (which is#debatable.) and the bprd. mostly hellboy and liz and kate and roger. johan and ben are a weird case but he does kinda care about them#i love abe btw. he's such an interesting critter. absolutely crazy maniac of a guy.#tbf i dont blame him considering his backstory. if i went through some of the shit he did; i would not be sane either#also. the moments post hellboy's death in the comics where abe is trying to deal with his passing but never directly says anything about it#until he was confronted by hellboy in his dream. thats the cool bit yknow. we dont need to be told Abe was grieving about hellboy#we just knew he wasn't handling it well. using present tense when talking about hellboy to other people. avoiding saying his name.#its great stuff#the fire burns#hellboy#hellboy comics#abe sapien

Im mentally chewing on the fact it's now Commander Scorch on his own working for Hemlock.
Like it'd be really fucked up if the reason he stayed and the others either didn't (as in they took a path similar to the books and got out altogether, they're some of the first clones eligible for retirement after all given their service records) is Sev and having to leave him behind. Or maybe the other's have since died. and he's the only one left to keep going. hooooo

you know, I think that all the murder business in aknh-morpork would once again plummet if vetinari let downey and his people do their job again. he initially made the assassins' guild and thieves' guild legal for crime prevention and let them deal with people who performed unlicensed inhumation/theft. and then he got a new favourite toy in vimes and was like "actually no guys, let him do it, it's funny" "people are dying, dog-botherer."
Right??
Downey and Boggis are all about crime prevention. Cops aren't, by their very nature. They're reactive.
If the Assassins and Thieves' approach to prevention is colourful and florid—especially if you like the colour red—it is hardly their fault that this is what works best.

Or the bright of the day, I like shaking it up. With less murder the city spends less on the police budget, less on food and board for prisoners, and the hang-man might need a second job. It's a win-win, really.

Downey argues that fine, fine, if they can't get regular-degular murderers, can they at least get serial killers. He had so much fun hunting down that guy the last time! It was a highlight in his recent life!
Vetinari says he'll think about it. He wants to know what Downey constitutes as a serial killer. Downey is like, 'anyone who has killed, in a sequential manner, more than two people. If it's a mass killing, I'll leave that to the Watch. Unless it happens more than once. Then it drops into serial killer bucket.'
Vetinari points out that this is a very low bar. The scope is wider than the ocean. The Assassins' Guild could lump so many people into that category. Really, if it's so broad, Vetinari isn't sure the definition is entirely useful. Downey beams at him.

#im not gonna be able to explain why this happened organically in the span of 3 hours but au where gorion managed to#get baby radri shelter in evereska so she grew up there and met xan and went through a friends to lovers thing but his intense self doubt#led to him pushing her away so harshly that she didn't seek him out again except for later on the eve of his acceptance of the moonblade#bc there was a chance he wouldn't survive and she still cared about him deep down & couldn't just let it go without seeing him 1 more time#and xan had thought he'd completely burned that bridge with her and was relieved to see her and still loves her but she doesn't stay#and he never sees her during their shared time in evereska again#fast forward to decades later when radri's started on her journey and stumbles upon a certain captive in the nashkel mines#radri's so over it by now she frees & ignores him but xan's like WAIT let me offer you my services as a wizard!! and she's like 😒#but there's room in the party and more spells would be useful so she takes him along. and thus begins xan's mission to protect her bc he#owes her that much and maybe he still desperately loves her and radri's mission to completely get over xan#so yeah i made uh *counts pages* 7 comic pages of script/doodles for the progression through these events#instead of spending that time drawing something that i could actually post OTL

I want to see Maggie without her bullet for a long period of time. I wanna see how it goes whether she freaks out, lashes out at everyone, and/or has a complete meltdown. Then I want to see everyone else's responses and the ppl that care Abt her helping her out while she is Not Okay TM and then they find out the significance of the bullet to her and give their sympathies and Maggie can't really bat them away like she normally would since being without her lucky silver bullet is nerve wrecking because who is she without that bullet she's alive because of it-
So what if Callum learned abt the bullet b4 anyone else
