I'm actually doing the prewriting/plotting for Vermin's Angel now and something I hadn't really thought would be as big of a motif as it's ended up being is Lino's vanity and how Vincent and The Leader interact with it.
They both encourage it, but The Leader wants Lino to be pretty in the same way they want their home decor to be pretty. It has nothing to do with Lino and everything to do with the Image of purity and righteousness the leader is trying to present themselves with.
Vincent just thinks Lino deserves to feel pretty. He's blind, it doesn't matter how gorgeous Lino looks, Vincent won't perceive him any differently. But Lino will be happy and will appreciate the work that Vincent put into making this or that outfit for him. and that's enough for Vincent.
#Like. Vanity is Lino's fatal flaw. He wants to be pretty and to feel wanted and admired.#He wants the positive attention his looks get him and he wants to feel like hes Earned it. Like he put his outfit together right or held#his posture perfectly. His looks are the only rhing that has ever gotten him praise so thats what hes clung onto and built his ego around#and it means hes very easy to manipulate with promises of shiny things and a future where he doesn't struggle.
