Getting really into Destiny 2 lately, and so far, it has been a blast.

The music, the artwork, the lore, is just right: a well‑designed world with well‑designed elements, all fitting together.

And you know what? Playing a game mostly played by dads and moms is a relief: maybe, after all, there is hope for adult media offering mature entertainment through its themes, rather than its visuals and scenes.

A ‘complete package’ in what I would call recreational (electronic) media (after the Irem rebranded meaning) has always interested me the most: a solid art direction is invisible, because it makes a thing complete. Roleplaying games, tabletop games, video games. Nerd stuff.

Incidentally, on the topic of video games, I have been looking for ways to get into R-Type (finding archived manuals has been fun) and a variation of Mega Man as well, but that is one of those slower processes.

Slower processes are slow because if you try to speed them up, they end up consuming so much energy at once, you are basically incinerating yourself. I prefer catalyzing at room temperature.

So far, I am enjoying my summer break quite a bit.

An online library of visual-narrative devices that are used in the medium of comics and other sequential art.

Happy Halloween! I'm really excited to be finally launching* what is maybe one of my most ambitious, largest work yet. This online library is the next phase of a research project that began in May 2020, when I first mused on how comics as a field doesn't have a resource that catalogues devices used in the medium. Like, theatre has devices, so does literature, and film! So why shouldn't comics? I always had an interest in comics studies and analysis. I love reading, making and thinking comics. However most of my knowledge was intuitive - I learned comics from osmosis and experience. This is true for many of my peers. Speaking about comics as a creator is hard, because we don't have a robust system of language. When we had to speak, many of us tend to reach for the language developed for film by film practitioners. If there is language specific to comics, it's either scattered in multiple blogs or hidden away in academic journals. The Comics Devices library is meant to aggregate everything and everybody into a single hub! After exploring some multiple resources, alongside some original, independent research, here is the first edition! * The Comics Devices project is still a work-in-progress! It's not final, nor will it ever be. This is why I am seeking contributors to help build this library. Translations, comics examples, etc. There is a lot of work to do! This is the devil’s hole pupfish! A tiny species that lives only in One water-filled limestone cavern in Nevada. It was one of the first animals on the endangered species list. At the last count in 2022 there were 263 pupfish observed - the most in 19 years! They’re tracked pretty carefully, as their 215 square foot habitat (the smallest of any know vertebrate) is fragile and has been disturbed in the past by groundwater extraction and other human interference.
