This AU. Take a WILD guess what. Jkjk but uhhh basically these guys got gifts, and they hide it from the family. Because why not.

Candy girl 🗣️🗣️🗣️ no butttt uhhhh. Basically like a reverse Hansel and Gretel, and whenever anyone mentions “the witch” they’re like “oh that’s Abuela”.

You know how moths are attracted by light? And fire flies produce their own light?

Moth!Izuku:

A lonely Luna moth that has been flying around alone until he sees some flashing lights around him, but one stands out as the brightest he has ever seen.

Firefly!Katsuki:

A Pyractomena firefly that flashes a yellow-amber light similar to the sparks of a campfire, but unlike the other males from his group that are attracting mates, Katsuki hasn't gotten the same luck, might be because his light is the only one with his color, so he's the odd one out and undesired by other members of the species, until he sees a huge pair of wings that seem to reflect the glow of the moon, thus, he and Izuku meet.

Izuku tells Kacchan he loves his light and the blonde says the same about his wings, the two go to a lower part of the patch of grass where the fireflies are and the two become mates, they live in a small home in a tree stump and have adopted a number of orphaned baby bugs they found around their territory.

I have no problem with slice-of-life AUs, but it bugs me when they don't try hard enough to adapt the characters' whole deal to the new milieu. "Samus Aran would be a gym instructor" nah, man – think pest control. She used to work for one of the big outfits in town, but she was forced to go freelance after that one lady's house burned to the ground during a routine bedbug fumigation. Officially it wasn't her fault – the client didn't properly disclose what kind of chemicals she was keeping in her basement – but word gets around, you know?

i thought too hard about insect motifs got a little silly and made... a lot lmao these versions of the characters are from @sm-baby's amazing digital carnival au!! full images and rambling about insect choices are gonna get stuck under the cut... it'll be a bit long and i will be putting photos of real bugs down there so be mindful

pomni: "butterfly"

inspirational species are black swallowtails mostly for the shape, and malay red harlequins mostly for the pattern

carnival pomni's actually the one that kickstarted this whole set... i drew her hat in a way that reminded me of butterflies, went "wait...", then i fully leaned into it :)

jax: "centipede"

there was no specific species for jax. without being able to use color, they were too similar to pick any out... i have included a giant centipede just for reference though since it was mainly larger centipedes i used for inspiration

anddd there's a little bonus sketch for how pre-sentience jax might've looked with a centipede outfit... he gets a bug scarf and some goggles!

ragatha: "ladybug"

inspirational species was the twice-stabbed ladybug chosen because the inverted color scheme looked the best out of all the ones i tried, and also because it's a metal name and we know ragatha's good with a knife... stabby stab... i did add more than two spots to the dress though, it just looks cooler lol

gangle: "spider"

inspiration was the spinybacked orb weaver which i was absolutely ecstatic to find because come on that is the perfect spider for gangle like look at it!! it looks like her mask, it's got red, it's got gold on the limbs, literally twinning

zooble: "mantis"

inspiration was the spiny flower mantis which, like with gangle, i feel is pretty much perfect for zooble... they come in many colors (including pink), have abstract patterns, and it gave me the excuse to cover zooble in spikes :D fun

and no kaufmo because i'm lazy and he's dead (sorry kaufmo fans but am i wrong), and the rest don't have bug names that i know of?

i still want to draw the carnival characters in their regular looks sometime, i just got really really inspired by the idea of secret skins and bug-themed outfits and went a liiittle haywire :P

anyways if you read all that you're a real one and you've got too much time on your hands... if you didn't, i understand, i get wordy, sorry :'D okay i think that's all byeee

Luisa snuck out of her room, her wings buzzing gently as she went towards Mirabel's room. She carefully made her way down the hallway, opting to walk rather than fly so as to not cause too much noise.

Once up to Mirabel's door, she gently opened it, wincing when the door creaked a bit, but it was fine. As she stepped in, she was shocked to see Camilo already there, talking to the girl.

"Luisa?" Mirabel asked, looking at her older sister. "Why are you here? N-Not that I mind!"

Luisa blinked for a moment before closing the door behind her. "I...I wanted to see your new wings. I didn't get to see them earlier 'cause I was too busy."

Camilo looked at his older prima, three of his six arms enthusiastically waving at her. She waved back, and Mirabel slowly slid out of bed, standing up. Camilo walked over to Luisa, giggling with a spark of mischief in his eyes.

"They're so cool," he whispered to her as Mirabel prepared to display her wings.

"Ready?" Mirabel asked and Luisa nodded. Camilo nodded too, even though he had already seen them, several times.

Mirabel focused for a moment, and then her wings began to lift. It took her a moment, but she eventually managed to lift them, though it was clear she was still getting used to it.

Luisa's eyes lit up as she looked at the wings, her smile side as she looked at the delicate appendages. She walked up to Mirabel, looking into her sister's eyes as if asking for permission. Mirabel nodded and Luisa's fingers gently touched them.

"They're so pretty," Luisa said softly, mesmerized by the sight. Mirabel giggled, quietly thanking her sister. Camilo appeared, his six arms immediately tracing the patterns on her wings. Mirabel giggled again, feeling a ticklish sensation as her sister and cousin touched her wings.

"They look like abuelos don't they?" Camilo asked and Luisa looked at him and then the wings before thinking back to the painting of their abuelo in the hall. They really did when she thought about it. Maybe the patterns were a bit different, and his looked a little lighter, but otherwise, they were identical.

"They do!" Luisa smiled. Mirabel carefully folded her wings, sitting back down on the bed with Camilo joining her.

"Are you gonna join our sleepover?" Camilo asked, rolling on the bed. Luisa hesitated for a moment, fidgeting on her feet. She usually stayed in her room, so she could get ready as fast as she could and go out to work.

"Please, Luisa? Just this once?" Mirabel pleaded, and both she and Camilo gave her wide. Well...one wouldn't hurt, right? A

"Ok," Luisa said, giggling softly as she joined her younger sister and cousin on the floor. One sleepover wouldn't hurt.
