Okay I’m still on the verge of tears and can’t do this rn so buddy daddies ep 10 jumbled thoughts

Idk wtf anyone says anymore the entire kazurei relationship is queer there is absolutely NO denying it anymore. That scene where Kazuki is looking at kids with their moms, then it cuts to himself? Yeah that’s basically insecurity and feeling terrible he can’t fit their own family into societal standards. Yeah it’s about Miri missing Misaki, about how their careers aren’t meant to accommodate a child but its also about how society has made us all internalize that a ‘right’ family involves a mom, a dad, and a child/

Miri is absolutely sad that Misaki isn’t with her, but she’s never like, so upset she gets devastated. Misaki herself asks “do you like it here better than with me?” and what does Miri answer? She doesn’t says “yeah i like it better here”, BUT she also doesn’t say “I like it best with you!”, she completely dodges and says “I love you mama, and papas too”. Any time a situation involving a mother comes up, she’s like “would be nice if mama were here....anyways!” and doesn’t dwell on it.

I thought Rei smiling would kill me but Kazuki almost CRYING DESTROYED MY SOUL. It’s like watching either of my parents cry its heartbreaking and horrible and i want it to stop. He thought he’d never find that normal happiness, wanted it oh so desperately and then it’s....gone. The Ferris wheel symbolism was horrible I hate the OP for doing that to me. That opening where they’re in front of the billboards was just-- IT WAS IN FRONT OF US THE WHOLE TIME

I think even Rei almost cried. On the ferris wheel, when they focused on his mouth and it twisted downwards before Miri pointed to the city. Kazuki crying was bad enough and had me tearing up too. If Rei was added into the mix I’d have been in shambles

Misaki holy shit wtf, life hates her, cut the woman some slack wow. Throughout the show she was defined by her singing and they took her voice away. It’s horrible, but I’m glad she has parents to go back to. I’m not fully convinced she can take care of Miri, but if she’s being genuine I think she’ll be just fine and would learn just like Kazurei.

Rei sounded so devastated when he was like “you can’t do this when we’re all attached”. Yeah this was his glimpse at normalcy, the one time in his entire life he got to be part of something that didn’t stifle him and it’s gone now. 

Kazuki wrapping the scarf around her- hey why don’t I just eat glass? Why don’t I just go on top of a cliff and scream?? Or set fire to my bed???

I thought Rei would defy the organization and say “screw it I want to protect this family I have”......but his most prominent memory of his mentor is him dying. How defiance led to his and his wife/gf’s horrifying death. In his head he’s probably thinking that’d be Kazuki and Miri if he doesn’t quit while they’re ahead. Alive and miserable, or dead while holding onto hopeless situations?

I know Miri's room will be the biggest reminder to them of what they once had, but the little things...

I just realized they got a car seat for Miri now... another small reminder (alongside the high chair in the dining area) to them that they had her. I'm in so much pain.

There's just something about seeing a car seat being so domestic and it immediately makes one think, "Oh, it's their family car." Man... they're really on that parenting shit. I feel so bad for all of them. Kazuki and Rei had been slowly yet continuously learning how to be better parents in a long term commitment, but turns out their "long term" so far would just be less than a year...

Me and the organization fighting each other after episode 10:

LISTEN, all the way back in episode 2, Rei was the one who kept saying “so you’re really sending her back?” and “are you sure about this?” every time Kazuki brought up the topic of taking Miri back to her mother. Like Kazuki was attempting to think logically and responsibly at the time, considering the reality that they may not be the best household for this small child, but each time, REI was always the one trying to��in his own way—convince Kazuki to let her stay.

We all remember that Rei brought home a kitten in episode 1. He has a bunch of plants he cares for at home. He wanted someone to nurture, even if he wasn’t conscious of it. As soon as Miri appears, he definitely seems out of his depth and doesn’t know what to do, looking to Kazuki for guidance on almost everything. But never, not once, has Rei been comfortable with the idea of sending Miri away. Even back when he refused to let her call him “papa,” he still tried changing Kazuki’s mind on the matter multiple times.

Hell, he had already committed to calling himself her papa in PUBLIC in front of those police officers before he even knew her mother would reject her return.

And now, when Miri’s mother finally DID ask for custody of her child back, Rei’s stance remained the same. In episode 10, he never agrees with Kazuki when he tries to talk himself back into what he considers the “kind” thing to do. Rei has NEVER been on board with the idea of letting Miri go back to her mother, and I think I have to go lay down now

cant stop thinking about how metaphorical the ferris wheel is in this episode of buddy daddies.

first off it’s christmas time now which means that’s it’s officially been an entire year since they met and now they’re having to give her up, literally one year, full complete circle of time. in addition the way that when they’re going up they feel hopeful about wanting to live a normal life full of normal happiness and normal things. and then they reach the peak and are in awe of the beautiful of the skyline, just like how for those few glorious months they almost felt like a normal, happy family living a beautiful and meaningful yet simple life. and they’re grateful. they tell miri directly how much she has changed their lives for the better. but everything that goes up has to come down, and as they descend they realize how this can’t last. that in order to give miri a chance at a truly normal life, not this one that’s hidden behind a fragile facade that’s destined to fracture at any second, a real normal life, they have to let her go. and as they step off the ferris wheel they realize that this is it. their year is over, this dream cycle is now over. and as they hand her off and she disappears from their line of sight kazuki and rei realize that they’ve never changed. there forever trapped in this cycle, this circular motion of life that always leads back to where they started, no matter how hard they try to change and escape it.

Episode 10 - Rei's smiles (and generally impactful stuff) and why

Miri grabbed his hand, excited for the family day. It's his affectionate, love-filled look

2. This crooked, embarrassed smile that never ever appeared on his face caused by Miri spoon-feeding him

3. Just peacefully observing Miri having fun

4. Amused Miri's messing up some words again

5. Looking at Miri running away, excited to play some games

6. A SMILE FOR KAZUKI ALONE. I REPEAT!! A SMILE FOR KAZUKI ALONE! And not just a smile. It was a smile of him not being able to stand Kazuki getting blue, because of the stuff they're both going through. He wanted to cheer him up for the rest of the day!!!

7. Getting Miri's praises for gaming skills and absolutely crushing Kazuki who finished (most probably) last

8. Looking at Miri trying out a princess dress

9. Thanking Miri for all the things he saw because of her. And it's not just thing's he saw in this case. It's the feelings he discovered, it's the

Guys, this is basically as many as we've got in the previous episode, but they are wider and less awkward in peaceful situations. Even though this man is obviously hurting, he still smiles. Not only for Miri at this point, but also for Kazuki and just because he feels like smiling when no one's looking at him

This brings me back. On Episode 2, Rei compromises by smoking under the vent because he wanted to smoke but can't freely smoke anywhere because there's a child in the house, as per Kazuki's reminder.

But then, on Episode 10, Kazuki reminds Misaki that she cannot smoke "here" and neither Kazuki nor Rei gave alternative places for smoking.

Of course, it could be because they think they have more important matters to talk about, but looking at Rei's face here?

It gives me the impression that the rule has long been established in the house by this point. Episode 2 Rei would have given Kazuki the stinky eye for policing someone where to smoke, but Episode 10 Rei looks just like, "Yeah, what he said."

My takeaway from this? We can safely conclude here that either Rei has made it a habit to never smoke inside the house/with Miri around, or he had stopped smoking altogether. Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the previous episodes that passed by, we didn't really see Rei smoking again.

This is just one of the many changes that they experienced, so please someone tell those buddies that yes, they are changed persons. Probably not by a mile, but small steps compromised a kilometer.
