SRW Y Wishlist Part 4 (recent SRW inclusions)

Okay, so this last part is made up of a handful of series from more recent SRW games, mainly the VXT trilogy and 30. I won't be including anything directly connected to any entries on the previous list (no Prince of Darkness or Rebuild of Eva, for example), and I don't have Gundam Wing on here because it's kinda already rumored to be included. Anyway, onward to this last list of personal hopefuls:

Cross Ange (TV Series): It's rare for me to say that I find a show genuinely enjoyable while also saying I can't recommend it to anyone. The first few episodes of this series are excessive in their violence against the protagonist, much of that violence being sexual in nature. That having been said, the ideas and themes of the show being more focused on a sort of complicated "re-empowerment" story for the various women of Arzenal leads to a show that can stick with you. Also, we already have the Gundam Lesbians and Majestic Prince's enby powerhouse coming to town, let's add more queer characters to the roster baby!

Buddy Complex (TV Series): This one has only been in one mainline SRW game so far with X, and honestly it's time travel story gets a little overshadowed by the fantasy isekai stuff central to the plot of that game. I haven't seen the show, but this is a case where I'd like to see more of these characters and storylines anyway. It just seems fun.

Gun X Sword (TV Series): This one kinda works well in nearly any mix of story, as the Clawed Man is a great villain to pair with others and the show's episodic nature means you can pick and choose some of the stories you want to focus in while including them. It's a good series, but as much as I would love to see it again, I could understand leaving it out after two games in a row.

SSSS.Gridman (TV Series): Chances are honestly better at this point that we get Dynazenon instead for the new game, but either way honestly works out fine in my opinion. This show was an artistically striking successor to the original Gridman tokusatsu series, as well as its American adaptation(?) Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad, with clear references to each version of the show but very much focused on telling its own story. Also, I can't stress enough, Akane has some strong queer subtext to her and we want more gay in SRW, dang it.

ULTRAMAN (TV Series): This one was first included as DLC for SRW 30, and only had a few elements from the show's first season. Now that the series is complete, it's a good time to give the whole thing a chance to shine. I suppose I should also add an honorable mention to a show I forgot to add to my previous parts, because it's Tekkaman Blade being in SRW J that got me to really be interested in power armor series inclusions among the giant robot stuff that SRW is more known for.

Sakura Taisen (TV series or Games): Again added as DLC only in SRW 30, this one is odd because each individual game in the franchise could be solo in an SRW game, but as of now, the DLC threw in characters from three stories at once with little narrative. It'd be nice to see what they can do with an actual focus on just one of the many game stories or the TV adaptation, especially because they could include other characters than just the lead pair.

Code Geass: Akito the Exiled (OVA): Surprise entry from Super Robot Wars DD this time, as this very solid Code Geass sidestory hasn't yet appeared in any mainline games as of now. Considering that Resurrection is included, I don't expect this to show up, as they'd have to blend the stories in an odd way to make it actually work with the timeline of events, but who knows? I like it and I'd be interested in seeing it included.

And that's it for my SRW Y Wishlist, basically. We only get these games every few years unless they are making a bunch with the same engine like VXT, so forgive the rather large list of desired inclusions because it'll possibly be another 3 to 4 years before I can dream about this exact thing again. God, I'll be in my 40s at that point. Anyway, my number one wishlist pick is Layzner, and thanks for reading these slightly silly posts.

Okay I am just gonna throw something out because I got to thinking about and what is this blog for if not to yell into the void?

Danny gets hired as a janitor at the Daily Planet. It's just a job, something to make money and not clash schedules with his Metopolis Community College classes. But while working there he meets this reporter who is definitely also not fully human.

Does danny care? Nah. Not causing problems. None of his business. Not his circus not his monkeys.

But imagine the hijinks.

Clark? Initially confused but also glad at meeting someone so chill? One story about the ecto-weenies later and he has to know more. Let these two goobers bond over "what is my life" and "ya got a little not normal right there." This Danny guy is just a chill civilian friend he doesn't have to hide from.

And Danny? Staying-in-his-lane and sleep-deprived-college-studenting so hard he doesn't even realize his fellow not-baseline-human friend is Superman. Clark is just his friend who is also trying to be Normal.

and eddie was walking around with this feeling of “wow, i just made the bestest friend in the world. he cares about me and he loves my child so much. i want to spend all my time with him. i want to talk with him about everything. i want to listen to him talk about everything. i want to see him every day. i trust him with my life. i trust him with my son, which is even more important than my life. now that i’ve gotten to know him, i can’t really imagine my future without him in it. also, i have this weird swirl of feelings inside my chest when i see him with his romantic partners, but i have no idea what it is. it’s too confusing for me, so my brain is just kind of unable to process it. i trust him with my darkest secrets and i’m not afraid of him seeing me at my lowest, ‘cause i feel like he always accepts all of me with understanding instead of judgment. my life feels empty and wrong without him by my side. i might need him almost as much as i need my son at this point, wow. he’s just the most important person in my life. again, after my son. but i realized that i need both of them beside me to feel happy”

and for 7 years, they genuinely didn’t understand what it meant, because eddie was too inexperienced and emotionally repressed to be able to comprehend what his feelings actually meant, and buck was too unaware of what his feelings for men meant

so all these years they were really just walking around being in love with each other but not having a single idea that they were, because they really thought that this is just how platonic camaraderie feels like -

until tommy's intervention and eddie's move to el paso finally opened their eyes and gave them a new perspective from which they could look at their feelings toward each other and finally be able to understand them

their story gets me every time. like, it’s so stupid and unhinged and beautiful

and something like this really could only happen by accident, ‘cause i don’t think any tv show writer is smart enough to create something so raw and complex as their relationship from scratch

the fact that they wrote eddie diaz specifically for ryan and right off the bat they made him buck’s trainer/owner/soulmate is kind of insane

he talks about pre and post glee as if buck wasn't around in the pre glee era. like buck was there, would have been in high school when it started so like. he very much existed in pre-glee culture even if he wasn't aware of his sexuality yet. he was still a bisexual kid growing up in a society that didn't tolerate that shit and he repressed it so hard that he hid it from himself. probably also did a lot of stupid things as a young adult to make up for it too, even if he didn't fully understand why.

buck literally acted like a dog marking his territory all over the firehouse because he was so attracted to eddie that he thought it was anger and jealousy.

buck was a bisexual at 15 and 26 and 33 and Josh was right to say that people did and do a lot of things to protect themselves in the closet that in retrospect kinda suck. such as forcing yourself to maintain a long term romantic relationship with a woman that you aren't actually in love with because it's what you think you're supposed to do.

but he acted like buck was a literal infant (baby gay jokes are fun until they cross the line into condescending which is josh and Tommy's entire MO w buck ig). is it bc tommy is twice bucks age??? bc that's a whole other can of worms.

buck was more than valid for worrying about the implications of tommy being someone that broke Abbys heart, even if he did need to understand the nuance it doesn't change the fact that knowing you dated the same woman is kind of a mind fuck and enough to ruin a relationship with as poor of a foundation as they had.

"The End’s Last waltz" Shinta Reviews Super Robot Wars X part 11

X Ends with the assembled mecha anime allicance face off against a series of False Gods! It's a fantasy setting, what would you expect?

i know everyone is (rightfully) doing buckabby about 8x10 but I need to do eddieshannon for a second. because the way eddie looks at buck during his outburst in the truck and then says its not nothing. its sooo complicated. and like. shannon left eddie, in el paso. buck says you're just moving back to texas like its nothing. like it doesn't affect anybody else. it does. and so in a very real way in that moment, eddie is shannon to buck. because shannon just up and left texas because her mom needed her, and she left eddie like it was nothing, like it would have no affect on him or their son. and maybe its a bit of a silly comparison, but the parallels are there. eddie comes back from war, shannon floats going to LA for her mom, eddie says not now, shannon goes anyway. buck gets dumped, eddie floats moving to el paso for chris, buck consciously or not tries to get eddie to stay, but eddie puts a downpayment on a house anyway. but then eddie says its not nothing, so that buck knows. hes not running away from his life in LA, and he doesnt need or want time away from buck the way that shannon did with him.

and then on another level, I think eddie maybe feels like himself, when he re-enlisted…

shannon said i cannot do this without you. and buck is sitting there in a moment of sleep deprived honesty and telling eddie his life will be fundamentally affected by eddie leaving. and eddie said im trying to provide for this family. and eddie needs to go to el paso, because he needs to fix things with chris, and he needs to be christopher's father, and buck knows that and agrees. and then shannon also says you keep saying you didn't have a choice, but you're the one that keeps making these choices for the rest of us. which I think also echoes back to eddie thinking buck was making him choose between him in chris in the previous episode, even though buck wasn't doing that at all. eddie himself just feels like he is making that choice, and hes making the right one, but why does it feel like a choice at all to him. but it does feel like a choice to him, which is why its not nothing, that hes leaving LA. its maybe the hardest choice he's had to make, and he knows its affecting buck.

and then eddie also tried to pick a fight with him, in 8x09, which is what him and shannon did all the time when things got messy between them. when they were hurt by each other, they were pissed off at each other, and so eddie asked buck to be pissed off at him if eddie was hurting him. and eddie IS hurting him, even though he doesnt mean to which buck knows. but instead of fighting, buck already took the initiative to get over it and go above and beyond to help eddie. and then in the truck, eddie could have picked a fight again, but decided not to, because buck is tired and stressed enough. And because buck isn't shannon and him leaving buck is not the same as him leaving shannon, or shannon leaving him, both because their relationship is different and because him and shannon left each other like it was nothing, but its not nothing with buck.

and then in the goodbye scene, eddie takes responsibility for the parts he didn't handle well, like trying to fight with him. and at the end of the day this is the fundamental difference between eddie/shannon and buck/eddie. its that eddie and shannon fought each other all the time because they were both always alone in that relationship. eddie kept leaving her for afghanistan when she needed someone to have her back. shannon left for LA when eddie needed someone to have his back, with his ptsd and with his parents. they were just never on the same page, and even when they were together they were alone and you can see that in every single one of their scenes. but buck and eddie are just fundamentally together, or united, and so they dont really fight. instead they just have each other's back, by letting eddie go be with chris, or by letting buck knows he matters to him, that its not nothing for eddie to be leaving him.
