This post has the template I used.
Tumblr media
youtube
Specifically the one from Godzilla Singular Point.
Roster is more Gundam heavy than I expected, yet somehow no IBO; my condolences to its fans. On the other hand, if you were really hoping Suletta would get to team-up with Shinn Asuka, Kamille Bidan, Heero Yuy, and CCA-era Amuro Ray, you're in luck.
Heavy Metal L-Gaim is back, which means I'll be jamming to this.
There's two Mazinger entries, neither of which is Infinity, but both Koji and Tetsuya are returning.
SSSS.Dynazenon will be making its debut, though I think a lot of people were expecting that one.
Also more series I didn't mention because I didn't recognize them.
The player's base is some sort of city-ship, so plenty of room for everybody.
There's a new assist system, in which supporting non-pilots can improve in rank, so a bit more involved than the previous supporter system.
And it's due on August 28th, so, not too far away.

Since the announcement for Super Robot Wars Y, I’ve seen a bit of confused eyebrow-raising at the apparent absence of any Universal Century Gundam shows in the roster, and so far the only Gundam series’ included apparently just being Mobile Fighter G-Gundam and Gundam: The Witch from Mercury. And I had an interesting thought on that:
What if we actually DON’T get any UC Gundam shows in SRW Y because the writers are specifically building a shared narrative for this game around the idea of Earth as abandoned, left behind and exploited by those in the space colonies above?
As a lot of people have pointed out, both G-Gundam and G-Witch actually both share this rather notable flip on the otherwise pretty standard Gundam trope of ‘Space colonies rebelling against the established power of Earth’. In G-Gundam, Earth and its remaining people have been largely abandoned by those in the colonies and has been devastated by decades of being used as the battleground for the Gundam Fights. And in G-Witch, Earth has become the underclass backwater exploited for labor and resources by those in the colonies like the Benerit Group.
What if the reason we’re not seeing any UC Gundam series’ in SRW Y’s roster so far is because basically NONE of their stories really WORK with this background? Like you can’t exactly square Zeta Gundam’s ‘Earth is oppressing the colonies’ narrative with G-Witch’s ‘the colonies are oppressing Earth’ narrative, now can you? And the same goes really MOST other Gundam series’ as well, Wing, SEED*, 00, etc. About the only other Gundam series I could see working here is After War Gundam X, since that show is similarly built around the idea of an Earth that has been devastated by war.
And this is made more interesting when we look at some of the other shows announced for SRW Y, and find they also potentially fit rather nicely into this shared narrative.
Getter Robo Arc is set at the end of the Getter Robo timeline, taking place after years of fighting against the Dinosaur Empire and other threats to humanity, which certainly provides something else to have ravaged the Earth.
And Macross Delta’s inclusion actually potentially fits perfectly into this narrative, as that brings with it the shared Macross backstory of Earth having been devastated by the war with the Zentradi.
Even the inclusion of Aura Battler Dunbine could potentially fit into this narrative, since that series has its character being summoned to another world isekai-style. Meaning that there can be some interesting potential of the fantastical world of Byston Well being used to contrast the devastated and ravaged Earth.
Also, a Super Robot Wars game not including any UC Gundam shows, or having just two Gundam entries in its roster is hardly a new thing either. Super Robot Wars UX, L, Neo, K, even the very well-regarded and fan-favorite J and W (a personal favorite of mine as well) all likewise featured no UC Gundam shows, and most only featured a couple Gundam entries at all.
In fact, considering that the last SRW entry, Super Robot Wars 30 was rather notable for including ONLY Gundam entries set in the Universal Century (outside of DLC anyway), it actually feels a bit fitting that the next entry would feature no UC Gundam shows at all.
*Though funny enough, I could see the new Gundam SEED Freedom movie working in this setting, assuming some pretty major tweaks. That movie is also set after multiple devastating wars and treats most of Earth outside of two small nations as basically an afterthought, with most of the power at this point clearly being held by the colonies, so I think you could make the setting work. Compass in turn could be made into one of multiple ‘peacekeeping’ organizations working with/for the Space Assembly League similar to Cathedra and their Domincus corp. Which would basically necessitate making Kira ‘Jesus’ Yamato and all his friends a LOT more morally ambiguous/complicated in likely a ‘wait, are we the bad guys?’ way. Which I think we can all agree would be pretty fun XD

The announcement yesterday gave me so much brainrot so here are some SRWY predictions/theories that will see how it ages once the full roster is announced ✨
-More of a assumption but due to production I get the vibe shows from last year don’t have a shot getting into the base roster depending on dev time, any newly added shows are def any in 2021-2022, maybe a couple squeezed in from 2023 but not as likely as the other two as I assume development for this started late 2022-early 2023. That being said, I feel like it will be a crime if Bravern isn’t here given it’s still big japan even now with how many ads it’s in, plus it came out early 2024 that adding it in as dlc still seems possible. A shame it’s not in the base roster but it’ll definitely give the dlc a reason to sell.
-Other stuff like Grendizer U I would like to see in SRW (despite still not watching it) but being in July means it’s probably a bit too late for even dlc so we maaaay need to wait for the next srw. That being said I’m curious what they’ll use to rep mazinger as I personally can’t see Infinity coming back a third time- maybe will get Mazinkaiser or shin? (Pipe dream is SKL but that’s SADLY not happening)
-Interestingly Gwitch is only labeled as season 1 which does lineup to the theory of 2023 shows are probably being excluded as well though my friends who seen Gwitch saids season 2 has more stuff going on- it’s still odd if season 1&2 were considered two series entries or if season 2 was made as dlc-that would be a bit much-but maybe this is POSSIBLY hinting at this next SRW will be a continuous trilogy of games rather the a new universe each time ala the Z games? So s2 will be adapted on the next “Y” game. (Though saying Y2 gonna sound pretty weird lol) Overall I’d take this over gwitch season 2 being dlc or not included at all or weirdly being considered it’s own series even if it does make it to base roster I just don’t know how likely this’ll be
-in terms of “‘new stuff that’s for sure not making it” Gqux (I’m shortening all the Us sorry) would be cool to see but it’s still not fully out and it’ll probably be out ONCE this game is close to release, so sadly it probably doesn’t have a shot of being even dlc but there’s at least next game! The new Rayearth show also definitely up there in “better luck next time” as we still don’t have anymore news on that, but the girls were in T and 30 back to back so I think they can sit out for awhile
-Gridman has not been confirmed to be one of the returning units from 30 YET but I think it be criminal not to bring it back if only for the fact they could use the sequel Dyanzenon as a paired unit with it- though I haven’t seen either but I do hope Dyanzenon is used at all cause logically it makes the most sense after Gridman got into SRW at all
-It’s too early to know if they’re being back arma AGAIN but I think arc should be standalone and we can go another game without the big 3 needing to be a thing as getter wasn’t even in X, interestingly we haven’t seen mazinger or OG gundam rep in this trailer but they probably will be here as they’re more of stables then getter sadly. I think it be more interesting if a new big 3 was formed out of other protags especially if arc and gwitch decide to go with a theme of the new generation passing the torch though I think T already did something similar? I have a lot of general wants for how arc is going to be in this game but the main hope is that for this game ryoma can stay out for once (if they make him a enemy unit as emperor I’ll be GIGGLING but I understand completely if they don’t even touch the end of arc)
-Finally to end off with my delusional hopes ✨ if shin jeeg or big o return at all I’ll be excited. I know it’s not happening, please don’t make fun of me I know even jeeg being dd doesn’t mean shit, but I’m putting these here anyways as they’re my pipe dream roster hopes.
That is all I can think of for now but feel free to add your own in reblogs or comments.

Hasbro would never allow it, but the complete rut that the Transformers are in right now outside of the comics, coupled with it actually getting a worldwide release on consoles as well as PC, would make Transformers an ideal entry for Super Robot Wars Y.
It doesn’t even need to be one of the newer shows or G1. You could give them Armada/Micron Legend or Cybertron/Galaxy Force and get a very excited audience. Well that and force Optimus Prime to interact with the Braves, or (possibly) Bravern, which would be worth the price of the game alone.

SRW Y Wishlist Part 2
Some more series I'd love to see in Super Robot Wars Y. Trying to avoid things that have already been in the official english translated games (VXT and 30), but there a few exceptions/tangential series. Onward to the next set:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
UFO Grendizer/Grendizer U (TV Series): Here's the Mazinger inclusion we kinda need at this point. Grandizer (which is apparently spelled Grendizer with an E, not really sure about that choice but okay) is the third Mazinger series from the 70's, and has had a strange resurgence in presence in the last couple years, with both the new Grendizer U anime and a current generation video game based on the original 70s series. Really don't get it myself but I'm happy to see it. Grendizer on the surface sounds like possibly the most interesting of the original Mazinger trilogy of series, but has lost a lot of prominence with the appearance of things like Mazinkaiser and Shin Mazinger. I think this is one we need to see again, and clearly someone with some actual influence seems to agree with me on that point.
Tumblr media
Hades Project Zeorymer (OVA): A high quality 80's OVA loosely based on a short manga series definitely aimed at adult audiences, Zeorymer also has a strange bit of current day attention being brought to it as an upcoming DLC unit in the recently released Iron Saga VS fighting game. As a beautifully animated dark sci-fi mecha series, Zeorymer always kinda feels unfinished, but the OVA did a good job making that ambiguity part of the appeal. Zeorymer has been one of the legendary powerhouse mechs in other SRW games, primarily SRW J, where the manga based Great Zeorymer first showed up, but it would be nice to see the original again. Heck, I'd be interested in seeing the other Hakkeshu mechs being playable.
Tumblr media
Zoids New Century Zero (TV Series): Honestly, any Zoids series would be a fantastic inclusion, as the franchise really doesn't get as much attention as it deserves. Zoids keeps chugging along in the background of toy and model franchises, continuing to have new releases even today, but their anime heyday was in the early 2000s, when New Century Zero and Chaotic Century/Guardian Force were internationally known thanks to Toonami. Also, mecha animals are awesome and I'd love a modular Liger to use as a regular member of my squad. I chose New Century Zero because I don't think it's ever had proper story inclusion in the SRW series.
Tumblr media
Mobile Suit Gundam AGE (TV Series): Available to stream free on Tubi just like Gundam X, but I don't know how much I can recommend this one. AGE is a facinating story about the experiences and motivations of three generations of pilots for the AGE series of Gundams, originally developed by Flit Asuno and later inherited by his son and grandson. For the first three arcs, AGE weaves a story about the dangers of allowing personal trauma to disconnect you from empathy, with each generation growing in terms of personal motivations reflecting how they deal with their own pain and difficulties. It's kinda bad in regards to the treatment of women in the show (who rarely get to be dynamic and interesting characters), but the real failure comes with the fourth arc, where the show completely drops the ball on its message by failing to commit to the character paths they clearly set up throughout the series. But hey, SRW has improved interesting but flawed shows before (Cross Ange and Unicorn being good examples), so maybe there's some magic they can work with AGE, too.
Tumblr media
Bang Brave Bang Bravern (TV Series): Super robot anime, modern successor the Brave franchise from the 90s, and plenty of homoeroticism. I kinda don't need to go any further than that.
Tumblr media
Lord of Lords Ryu Knight (TV Series): Don't be fooled by the cutesy designs. Taking place in a fantasy world, the series tells the story of a group of pilots who have inherited the Ryu mechs. These machines are the key to facing an oncoming threat from beyond the planet, but in the time since they were last needed, their power has somewhat faded. A cast of RPG style characters in RPG style machines (which each have official classes based on those games) makes for a fun fantasy experience that is just serious enough for its own good.
Tumblr media
Rayearth (OVA): I'll be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of this story in comparison to the original version, but that largely has to do with their character assassination of Eagle Vision. Everything else in here is fantastic, from character and mechanical designs to the re-imagined story about the importance of accepting the shifting and transient nature of life and relationships. Seriously, just replace Eagle with Debonair and you have a short version of Rayearth that can stand alongside its more famous sisters. If nothing else, the OVA designs could be a really cool mid-season upgrade for the original trio of machines.
And that's part two. One more part coming tomorrow. ^_^

Sonic fans this is the youtube trailer to Super Robot Wars Y game. Would you all want Sonic characters to be DLC for Super Robot Wars Y? Previous Sega reps like Sakura Wars have been in Super Robot Wars 30 as DLC.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWzNfreQuZQ
Ideas for the DLC gameplay. Sage piloting the Supreme Titan with Super Sonic the Hedgehog acting as her assist character as part of her moveset, Miles Tails Prower piloting the Sonic Adventure 2 Battles X Cyclone, Doctor Eggman piloting the Death Egg Robot, play as Metal Sonic in his Metal Overlord form from Sonic Heroes. That concludes the playable mecha roster.
Amy Rose and Knuckles the Echidna are support buff characters.

For Godzilla Singular Point’s position in the new SRW plot, I imagine that Godzilla is going to attract the attention of the Getter Emperor. Which means we could have a playable Emperor potentially.
The spiders will likely tie into Getter Robo Arc’s plot and have the two crossover.
Meganulon affecting the Dunbine plot.
The Dinosaur Empire likely worships Godzilla and see it as their answer to Getter Emperor.
Dynazenon is paired with Godzilla Singular Point’s because kaiju and Toho and Tsuburaya. So they’d just have a lot of dialogue and lore crossover. But that’s it. Which is unfortunate but I can’t really see the two doing more beyond that. Same with Reideen. Although for Dynazenon, we’ll have fun jabs at Jet Jaguar being “Ultra” like. Maybe Gridknight being confused at a robot similar to him and Gridman.

So with Gundam The Witch From Mercury having just been announced to be in the upcoming Super Robot Wars Y, I thought it would be fun, as someone who has played a number of SRW games over the years, to do some theorizing about how the game might handle G-Witch.
To begin with the obvious big question we’re all wondering about: How will the game handle SuleMio?
Now to get one big thing out of the way that I know some people will be worried about; I highly, highly doubt that Sulemio will somehow end up being ‘downplayed’ due to any kind of ‘corporate mandate’ from Sunrise. Something that is important to remember is that the production SRW games almost never have much if any involvement from the owners of the various included series’, certainly not on the writing side of things.
The other important thing to remember is that Super Robot Wars games have pretty much always been FANFICTION in the purest sense of the word. Both in terms of the wilder changes they can make (more on that later…), and also that basically everyone making these games are themselves massive fans of the source material. With just how popular SuleMio has been both in Japan and abroad, I have no doubt the creative team will be including their content. Not to mention, SRW has not been squeamish about adapting WLW content in the past. Like when Cross Ange was introduced in SRW V, it absolutely included Hilda’s big love confession to Ange and Ange’s reciprocation.
The only way I can see SuleMio getting in any way ‘downplayed’ is due to simple logistical issues, ergo; SRW is a game focused on mech combat, and Miorine obviously isn’t a mech pilot herself.
This actually brings us to what I think makes the question of how SRW Y will handle SuleMio so interesting. Because yes, historically speaking, because SRW is a mech-combat focused game, characters and plot points that aren’t related to mech combat do tend to end up being downplayed to some degree.
At the same time though, Miorine happens to not just be the big main love interest of G-Witch, she’s also pretty much the other main character of the show. Meaning that the creative team will almost certainly be trying to make her, and her relationship with Suletta a prominent element.
Like at minimum, I have to imagine we’ll be seeing Miorine be included in the Supporter system that we’ve seen in the last few SRW games. For those unfamiliar, it’s basically a bunch of non-combatant characters who can be assigned to provide various active and passive support buffs during missions, which feels like a pretty straightforward gameplay role for Miorine. As an aside, I have to imagine this is how the other non-pilot members of Earth House like Nika, Aliya and... that other guy will be included in gameplay.
But then we come to more unorthodox options, particularly when we consider SRW’s penchant for including some rather wild Secret Unlocks for characters and mechs.
Consider the following: There is a good chance that we will see a VERY briefly playable Miorine as a PILOT when she steals Aerial for the duel against Guel. I wouldn’t be surprised if we as the player get to ‘experience’ just how inexperienced a pilot Miorine is for a few turns, or until Aerial takes a certain amount of damage, at which point Suletta makes her big entrance. This sort of thing is actually pretty common in SRW games. Like Miorine as a pilot probably has horrible stats, a Spirit Command pool consisting entirely of support abilities and can only use Aerial’s most basic beam rifle attack. But! That still leaves us with Miorine as a pilot.
So now just picture: Miorine as a later secret unlockable CO-PILOT for Suletta? XD
I can even just picture what the requirements might be; something like ‘keep Miorine alive for three turns against Guel until Suletta shows up’ or something more tricky like ‘avoid being hit by Guel for three turns’, or even something rather nutty like ‘actually land hits on Guel with Miorine’.
Which in turn leads to a narrative twist of Miorine becoming more emboldened and confident in her piloting ability, which later leads to her becoming available as a co-pilot for Suletta. Probably when Aerial receives her REBUILD upgrade. Though admittedly that also depends on how the whole ‘Slap’ incident is handled. Heck, maybe one of the requirements for getting Miorine as a sub-pilot for Aerial is to somehow AVERT the ‘Slap’ and allowing Suletta to save Miorine in such a way that she isn’t traumatized.
I mean, you want something really fun? Obviously, the whole ‘Aerial Tomato Paste Special’ is absolutely going to be referenced in one of the Aerial Rebuild’s attacks. Maybe just as a ‘Dynamic Kill’ animation, or even its own dedicated attack. But, what if one of the requirements for getting Miorine as a sub-pilot actually prevents you from unlocking that attack? Meaning that the player is effectively forced to choose between getting the ‘Slap Attack’ OR getting Miorine as a co-pilot for Suletta.
And really, this would be far from the first time an SRW game has done anything like this. Really, Miorine being a secret unlockable sub-pilot for the Aerial Gundam would actually be very reminiscent of Tifa Addil being a secret unlockable sub-pilot for the Double-X Gundam back in the first Super Robot Wars Z game.
So yeah, could be a lot of fun XD
Now speaking of Aerial Rebuild, that leads us to another interesting question of what G-Witch pilots and mechs might we expect to even be playable?
Because G-Witch, particularly in Season 1, is in an interesting position amongst Gundam and other ‘Real Robot’ series’ in SRW in that the heroes are pretty much a one-woman/mecha show. Outside of Suletta and Aerial, the only other ‘standard’ options for pilots and mechs would be Chuchu and her Custom Demi Trainer, and conceivably Lilique, Till, and/or whats-his-face using the generic Zowort suits we saw used in the team battle against Grassley house. Outside of that, the only other ‘standard’ option is maybe seeing Elan 5 and the Pharact become available towards the end of the game.
But then of course, this could be where SRW’s penchant for crazy rewrites and secret unlocks to once again come into play.
For example, I would not be surprised at Chuchu’s Demi Barding suit that she got in Season 2 is available as a Secret Unlock.
And of course I’d frankly be more surprised if Guel wasn’t a secret unlock along with his custom Dilanza and maybe even his Darilbalde.
And considering SRW’s mechanic of allowing certain pilots (generally ‘Real Robot’ pilots from shows like Gundam) to be swapped between certain mechs, I wouldn’t be surprised if ‘generic’ mobile suits like Beguir’s, Dilanza’s or Zoworts were made available as unlocks or purchase to be used by the other members of Earth House.
Finally, we come to what is probably the most wild and yet still entirely PLAUSIBLE option, given SRW’s history:
I have a pretty good feeling that it will be possible (albeit probably pretty difficult) to save Elan 4 and recruit him as a pilot, along with the Pharact.
You may find that crazy, but honestly SRW does shit like this ALL THE TIME. They’re actually kinda well known for it at this point. Like this is a series that has, among other things; completely rewritten the second half of Gundam SEED Destiny into something basically everyone agrees was a massive improvement, rewritten Code Geass so basically nobody dies, and has repeatedly adapted the End of Evangelion in the form of repeatedly punching Human Instrumentality in the face, and/or smacking it with a Jupiter-sized hammer until it KNOCKS THAT SHIT OFF.
And I have no doubt it’s going to do some fun stuff with the Witch From Mercury too XD
