AnimEigo has announced that it will release the HD remaster of #BubblegumCrash on Blu-ray Disc on January 21, 2025.

The remaster will include an AstroRes upscale for episodes 1 and 3, while episode 2 will feature a new film scan. In addition to the Blu-ray release, the #Anime will be available on video-on-demand platforms.

Originally debuting in 1991 as a three-episode OVA and a sequel to #BubblegumCrisis, Bubblegum Crash was directed by Hiroshi Ishiodori and Hiroyuki Fukushima, with scripts by Emu Arii. Fans can now look forward to a high-quality version of this classic anime.

Dakloze onder een viaduct in Osaka. Slachtoffer van de Bubblegumcrisis die de Japanse economie sinds eind jaren '80 trof. Ik mocht hem fotograferen. Vervolgens stelde hij me voor aan diverse mededaklozen. Even verderop stuitte ik op een keuken in de open lucht, waar buurtbewoners soep maakten en uitdeelden aan armen. Ik werd in de buitenwijk van de stad om mijn camera een beetje lastig gevallen door de yakuza, een gedoogde misdaadorganisatie sinds de Tweede Wereldoorlog die wortels kent in rommelmarkten in Japanse steden. In de 'achterbuurt' van Osaka waar ik deze foto maakte had de yakuza de gokwereld, drugshandel en prostitutie (´vloeibare wereld´) in handen. Achteraf gezien had ik graag willen praten met de wijkbaas van de yakuza, maar twee Japanse vrienden die me vergezelden leek het beter er meteen vandoor te gaan. Zij stamden uit de gegoede middenklasse of upper ten van de stad. Nog steeds denk ik dat de plaatselijke yakuzabaas me niet had laten doodschieten als zijn mensen op straat me aan hem hadden voorgesteld. In Amsterdam kende ik destijds een yakitori-eigenaar van etentjes. Indirect was hij gelieerd aan de yakuza. Hij kon met ze in contact komen, met name in sportief verband. Ik denk dat hij geen strafblad had. Zijn restaurant liep goed.

Here's the last cosplay from my lineup at Anime Boston! I freaking love Bubblegum Crisis [both OG and Tokyo 2040], so I absolutely had to work in a cosplay somehow. I've been on a kick of watching retro anime lately. Mainly because imo, there's not as many nice looking Mecha/mecha adjacent shows that don't heavily rely on cgi anymore. Not Mecha, but I started Dirty Pair recently, that's been pretty rad so far. I added Priss last minute to my list, as I wanted a comfortable option to change into if Ibuki or Kaneki got too cumbersome. I had a good laugh when we checked into our room and saw we were in 2040. She's not 100% accurate, but I had fun throwing her together, plus it was good practice for wig-spiking.
