Hey IPR! First, @resident-corvid, you're awesome. Thanks for everything you do for IPR, it's been a blast working with you. My question is: What can we as publishers and creators do to help IPR be even more successful? Or, put another way: what would you like to see creators doing more of? What do we forget about frequently?
Hi! Thank you so much, it's always lovely working with you as well.
This is an interesting question! Mostly because IPR's success does entirely come from our publishers that we represent, it's because y'all create such incredible and interesting games that we exist at all.
As for what we'd like to see creators do more of / what they forget about, the first thing that comes to mind is packaging! In two ways, the first being how to actually safely package your games so that they make it through the postal system unscathed, and secondly how to package your games so they stay together in boxes and on shelves. I'm going to put the rest under a read more to avoid clogging up dashes.
For the first, we actually just made a video about this over on the IPR YouTube channel, where we go through a bunch of different types and quantities of games and show how we package them. The main things are to always have at least two layers of protection, and to pack your games so nothing moves. The postal system will toss your packages around, and they will put 50 lb boxes on top of your poor game.
Essentially you have to imagine that every package is going through The Horrors before they end up at their destination, and plan accordingly.
And for the second, this is especially relevant if your game has extras like a bookmark or other removable inserts, or if it comes in a set of several zines. Think about how these things will sit on a shelf in a game store, how they'll handle being picked up and flipped through. It's always a good idea to shrink wrap your games, but at the very least every component should be attached to eachother so there's less chance of a piece getting lost along the way.
A couple examples: Wickedness is a set of three zines about a coven of witches struggling to hold the worlds (and themselves) together. It gets shrink wrapped, which not only keeps the three zines together, but also protects the gorgeous gold foil on the front covers from getting scratched and damaged.
The deluxe version of Rampant, a module for Mothership® featuring the mysterious Geppetto station, holds all its components in a transparent paper sleeve. Customers can still see through to read the description on the back and the artwork on the front, and there's no chance for any of the pamphlets or map to go missing.
Lastly, the Strollplaying Games Trio Pack is a set of three notebook-esque zines, each containing a solo game to be played while walking about. They're held together with just a simple paper band. Something like this, or a rubber band (just make sure its not tight enough that its going to damage your games), are easy ways to keep your games together as they're being sold.
We've also got more tips on our Publisher Tips page on the IPR website! Our goal is always to support indie game creators however we can, so if you've got a question that isn't answered here or on that page, please do ask! If I don't know, someone else on the IPR crew will.
#indie ttrpg#ttrpg design#ttrpg#IPR remarks#Thank you for asking!!#packaging is definitely the number one thing#i cannot tell you how many destroyed packages of beautiful books we've received#if you learn nothing else please take this piece of advice:#please dont ever just ship a game in a bubble mailer#always put some sort of rigid support in there like a piece of chipboard#or even better put your games in a bubble mailer and then put that in a box

Glasses Review - Firmoo
Hello vision impaired friends, I bring you the gospel of Ordering Your Damn Glasses Online
I have previously ordered from EyeBuyDirect (luxotica/lenscrafters'/America's Best in disguise, sorry.) and Zenni Optical ( most well known online provider, A+ would recommend) and have seen lots of ads for free pairs from a competitor, Firmoo. I have too much prescription for the free pair offers to ever work out from ANY provider, but their fun designs put them on my list.
When my current glasses broke, I was dinking around and saw their current promotion is Buy One Get One Free PLUS 20% off lenses and as lenses are the real $$$ I jumped on that like tigger on crack. I am VERY nearsighted with astigmatism and the average pair of glasses from lenscrafters used to cost me $300 minimum.
After much deliberation with a million tabs open and a poll I ignored the results of for Reasons, I ordered a pair of clear frames and a pair of purple steampunk-y wireframes . Two pairs of HIGH PRESCRIPTION glasses for $87 shipped. I could cry, y'all.
Note: I have an up to date prescription and a nifty app that measures Pupillary Distance or 'PD'. you will need both these things accurate to have the best experience buying your glasses online.
I ordered them 9/22, they shipped 9/25, I received them 9/29 with regular shipping. They came well packed - each pair was in a bag made of cleaning cloth material inside a sturdy plastic case and they come in a foil bubble mailer.
Both pairs feel well made, with lots of attention to detail-
however I did not pay attention to detail or pay extra money for the Re-he-heaaallly thin lenses. So the clear ones are slightly too big and I hate the way the nose pieces sit, while the purple ones are a wee bit small across the temple and heavy to boot. I haven't had dents in my nose like this since I was 12.
the website lists their exchange policy as 30 days, the pamphlet that came with the glasses says 60. Either way it was pretty painless to go into my order history and select "exchange". The form I filled out with my reasons for dissatisfaction promised me I would be contacted within 24 hours.
My 'personal Firmoo consultant', 'Karen', emailed me with a code for the full price before discount of both pairs + standard shipping, as well as the usual customer service canned answers about checking the sizing information and did I know I could upgrade the lenses?
Also I could keep the failed pairs 'FOR NOW', here are some places that accept glasses as donations. (mixed messages, Karen, but sweet!)
New friends are April006, round anodized wireframes with a cute dingly gem thing, and Sandy020 , literal tortoiseshell cat eye frames.
This time I used the site's search terms to cut the temple width and earpiece length options down and double checked the weight of the base frames. (14g vs 24g for the round wireframes before my coke-bottle lenses. RIP my nose. )
New order was placed 10/5 and they arrived 10/17 . (last time I checked the tracking estimated arrival had creeped from the 19th up to the 23rd so grain of salt. This may be a tactic to make the order feel like it got here faster or legit delays. In my case there was a federal holiday involved.)
Complete disclosure I'm gonna grab a pair of pliers and take the little dangly off the wireframes. It makes a noise when I move my head and if I don't fold the frames in the right order when I take them off it'll scratch up the lenses. I ain't gonna remember to avoid that, so off it goes.
The Good:
Large selection, Good Quality, Good Communication. Lots of Off the Beaten Path options for internet weirdos. Firmoo p much always has a promotion going.
My wallet is so happy. SO HAPPY. Frames run $20-30ish to start. lenses will vary with your prescription and options.
If y'all want 50% off your first frames and to give me a $10 credit they have a referral program and my code is T4Z8I2. BOGO20 is a better value but it expires 11/01/23.
The Bad:
Not flexible about lens options- you go down one track and pick your options within that. If there was a way to put tinting on a pair of glasses other than blue light blocking I couldn't find it. (in contrast I believe Zenni lets you choose a range of colors and tint depth on any pair, designed as sunnies or not)
You Will Get Emails. Firmoo REALLY wants you to buy more glasses and post about it and tell your friends and HERE THIS CODE IS ONLY GOOD FOR 3 DAYS, GO BUY NEW GLASSES. They are marketing themselves to fashionable young influencers who change styles every month. Unsubscribe with impunity.
like Zenni, this is a company with the majority of it's functionality based overseas. It's cheaper because you're ordering directly from a factory and not paying Luxotica's markups to itself. Customer service is mostly English as Second Language speakers and there may be delays.
Not For Emergencies. I was able to coast on a pair of glasses from a prescription or 2 ago but it's gonna take time for your order to be made and shipped.
Overall I'm very happy with them and will probably order again.
Next time I have spare money I'm aiming at Wherelight because y'all. they are next down on the list of reputable to shady AF but they have the most amazing WTF designs.

UPDATE:
Well, a few things have happened:
1., I decided to participate in Art Fight (dookins), despite it being so late in the game. I’ve always wanted to, and it’s very slow going, but I wanted to share what I’ve been working on.
2., I’ve been working SO HARD on my character designs for the upcoming Cowboy Robots Rewrite! And although his full reference isn’t yet complete, I’d like to introduce P03’s replacement…
DAL-S
Get it? DAL-S? Dallas?? Ahh??? Yeah???
Anyway, from picking the right monitor, color pallet, even the name has all been a process but I’m VERY happy with where he’s landed. As an homage to P03, I’m keeping the little pointy lip.
I can’t wait to share everything about him! And of course introduce Ram’s replacement as well. That’s been a longer process, but I’m also happy where it’s going.
3., Cooking up things for my Etsy store and engaging in the TV headed community! It speaks for itself, but I’m hoping to expand my familiarity to some crowds and start selling multiple things outside of just P03 stuff on my shop…. And maybe more P03 stuff too >u>
4., Worst hurdle yet, I got fired from a job Ive been working for three years. Happened yesterday, and I feel incredibly raw about it. The job market is stupid competitive , and thankfully my husband is helping to support me. It also takes away the ease of access I had to ship out all the orders for my store. Things like access to bubble mailers, printing, tape, cardboards, and USPS delivery trucks coming straight to me are now all things I need to pay for out of my own pocket. But in the meantime, if anyone has any cheap recommendations, let me know!
Anyway, thats all apart of the update for now. Expect more P03 things, and some new things as well! Than you so much for those who’ve supported me so far!! It’s really so soul nourishing and I couldn’t be more grateful 💕

total drama merch update 1
hi, quick merch update for you guys!! I got a decent amount of support so I went ahead and ordered some sticker and keychain samples from a couple places. Both just of the one Alenoah drawing I did a few days ago.
Once they come in, ill pick out the ones I like the most and then get more printed. Looking at roughly 3 weeks? But ill make sure to share pictures and stuff with you guys :)
For starters I think im just going to do a small batch of alenoah, gwen, and something else(im still deciding) sticker wise. They are 3 inch stickers as of right now.
For keychains I'm just going to do Alenoah first. I am very open to making more designs, but they are more expensive, so I want to start small. I don't want to order too many or make something no one wants. (I think I might get a very small amount of Gwen keychains (5??) because i dont think they will do very welllll, but we will see.)
I'll let you know what prices are looking at in a week or so after I get more of the schematics settled. (I have to buy bubble mailers, shipping labels, etc.)
For more updates you can join my discord. I'm also working on a patreon- THAT WILL BE VERY OPEN TO FREE USERS!!!(i just want to do polls only with people who are truly interested in the merch/content) - so we can vote on keychains and gauge interest in the future.
i would love to know your guys thoughts and such so please feel free to send asks about any insight, suggestions, or questions <3 little sneak peak at one of the sticker proofs:

As someone who missed out on the pre-order, will their be a future restock of yer turtle merch? It's really cute!
Hello!! Oh yes, I'll be opening the shop again this coming week. I got a bit behind on sending out orders, because of two huge bubble mailer malfunctions, and spent this last week getting the last few orders safely in the mail. I just wanted to be sure all the pre-orders are clear and safely home before I put the extras up in the shop.
I’m also planning another pre-order and adding some new designs that were requested (2007 TMNT, ‘87, and Bayverse) and I can reopen orders for ones that might be sold out.
I usually announce the orders here and on instagram, but if you like I can send you a message as soon as I open the shop again 😆

Stickers are being PACKAGED! Shipping on Monday morning. Everyone is getting a tiny doodle because I can’t help myself. I had a tiny setback because my photo mailers were supposed to arrive yesterday but shipping got delayed. I had to run to an office supply store and grab bubble mailers and cut cardboard to stabilize them. No bending for my stickers!!
I’m floored with how quickly these have sold thank you everyone! Again, I fucked up the pricing originally so the second run will have a base price increase (to $8 from $5) but the initial run stays as is because it’s MY mess up.
I only have 6 more sticker sheets left for this run omg. Go get em so I can get even more and do more emojis. This is my agenda. Emojenda.

Hi! Feel free to ignore if you don't feel like answering. I see you've been posting about selling pokemon merchandise, and I wanted to ask if you maybe have any advice for someone who's also interested in selling merchandise but isn't quite sure where to begin?
Sure, I can give a little bit of advice! Sorry if this is super haphazard, I'm just talking off the top of my head.
Ok tbh the first thing to be aware of is that making merch is expensive. I really do not recommend getting into making and selling merch if you're struggling financially. I don't make a lot of money from this.
If you're interested in learning more about manufacturers/where to get stuff made, there's a list of them on the account @howtobeaconartist under the "resources" tab. They also have a lot of advice for selling merch in general, tho they're mostly geared toward anime convention artists.
There's also vograce, a company based in china that makes a variety of things:
I use them a lot but there's also often communication issues/minor printing complications, and shipping can get quite pricy if you're ordering a lot of things. (for example, shipping on the order of submas pillow cases + misc merch samples was almost $100.) (also I live in the US.) That said, I like to use them because they have low minimum order quantities; I don't sell a ton of merch, so it's convenient for me to be able to buy small quantities of items. They also let you split up orders between multiple designs (again, useful for lowering quantities).
Anyway, my personal recommendation for your first merch would be buttons. I get them made by cheapestbuttonsnet on Etsy:
Their prices are very affordable, and they also let customers split up an order between multiple designs. Typically I order a batch of 50 buttons, and then split it between 5 designs to end up with 10 buttons of each design. Customer service is also very responsive; if you have further questions I'd recommend messaging them on Etsy or sending them an e-mail.
Anyway you don't have to start with buttons, but that's just what I think would be the best balance between affordable for the artist + affordable/attractive for customers.
Also, keep in mind that artwork you draw for merch should be sized at least 300 PPI for prints, charms, buttons, and stickers, and at least 150 PPI for fabric printing (like pillows). This means if you want to print a 1.5 inch button, the canvas you draw on should be at least 450 px by 450 px (because 300 * 1.5 = 450). Typically I draw larger than this anyway (like 2500 px by 2500 px for most things), but note that if you draw larger that some small details may get lost.
There's a bunch of other logistic things you'll need to do before selling merch, including:
setting up an online shop (I use Etsy because they're convenient for shipping and send tax forms at the end of the year to make it easier to report income, but they have a lot of random fees)
Purchasing shipping materials (for buttons/charms, usually just bubble mailers from amazon or wherever are fine)
Setting prices (I reference other sellers on Etsy to gauge a good price for products. Another thing people often do is take the cost of manufacturing one unit, multiplying it by 3, and using that as the price.)
Purchasing business cards to include in orders (optional; I get mine from catprint.com bc I like their holographic finish and I get prints from them anyway, but there are much cheaper options out there for business cards)
Taking product photos/making graphics for products (this goes with "setting up an online shop" tbh. i hate taking product photos LMAO;;;)
Drawing the actual artwork for the merchandise lskdjflsdjf
There's probably more than this and there's more details that I'm not mentioning because this is just a short little intro, but tbh a lot of merch making is about learning along the way and seeing what works and what can be improved on.
#replies#possibly delete later since i talk abt manus and cost of production a little bit here#the manufacturers i use aren't really a secret but i don't like to post abt it too much publicly#info

The Impact of E-Commerce on Packaging Design and Materials
Introduction (H1): The Transformative Effect of E-Commerce on Packaging Design and Materials
The rise of e-commerce has revolutionized the way we shop, transforming the retail landscape and disrupting traditional brick-and-mortar stores. As more consumers turn to online shopping, the packaging industry has had to adapt to meet the demands of this rapidly growing market. In this article, we will explore the profound impact of e-commerce on packaging design and materials, and how companies like Shitla Paper are providing innovative solutions to cater to these evolving needs.
The Growth of E-Commerce : Changing Consumer Behavior and Packaging Requirements
With the convenience and accessibility of online shopping, e-commerce has experienced exponential growth over the past decade. Consumers now expect their purchases to be delivered safely and efficiently to their doorstep, which has significant implications for packaging design and materials.
In the e-commerce landscape, packaging serves multiple purposes beyond protection and containment. It must also create a positive unboxing experience, reflect the brand's identity, and be environmentally sustainable. This shift in consumer expectations has given rise to the need for innovative packaging solutions that strike a balance between functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability.
The Role of Packaging Design in E-Commerce : Creating a Memorable Unboxing Experience
In the digital age, packaging design plays a crucial role in brand differentiation and customer engagement. E-commerce companies understand that the unboxing experience is an opportunity to create a lasting impression on the consumer. Well-designed packaging can evoke excitement, anticipation, and even emotional connections with the brand.
In response to this trend, packaging design has become more creative and visually appealing. Unique box structures, personalized inserts, and branded materials enhance the unboxing experience and encourage customers to share their positive experiences on social media, generating valuable word-of-mouth marketing.
The Importance of Packaging Materials in E-Commerce : Balancing Protection and Sustainability
E-commerce packaging must ensure the safe transit of products from warehouses to consumers' homes. Traditional packaging materials like cardboard and bubble wrap continue to be widely used, but there is growing awareness of the need for sustainable alternatives.
Eco-friendly materials, such as recycled and biodegradable packaging, are gaining popularity. Companies like Shitla Paper are at the forefront of providing sustainable packaging solutions. By offering paper-based packaging materials that are both protective and environmentally friendly, Shitla Paper helps e-commerce businesses align with their customers' eco-conscious values.
Innovation in E-Commerce Packaging : Shitla Paper's Role in Driving Sustainable Solutions

By leveraging their expertise in paper manufacturing and staying ahead of industry trends, Shitla Paper enables e-commerce companies to enhance their brand image and deliver a memorable unboxing experience while reducing their reliance on non-recyclable materials.
Conclusion : Embracing Sustainable Packaging in the E-Commerce Era
As e-commerce continues to shape consumer behavior and transform the retail landscape, packaging design and materials play a crucial role in meeting the changing needs of businesses and consumers alike. Balancing functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability is essential for e-commerce companies seeking to stand out in a crowded market.
