Can you elaborate on the Clara Oswald reverse regeneration Iā€™m so so curious to hear about it
yes i can thank you for asking <3
so series 8 and 9 are all about clara becoming more and more like the doctor -- to the point where they function basically as the same creature (see, the hybrid arc DOES make sense!) and she forgets just how vulnerable and human she is. here's another post i wrote on her character arc as a whole.
but in face the raven specifically, she knows she is going to die for several minutes before it happens. she knows her death is coming, and she does her very best to accept it. she is determined to meet her death with grace and bravery, to "die like she means it". "I know it's gonna hurt you," she says, "but please, be a little proud of me?"
she steps up to meet her death with her arms outstretched, she screams in pain like every cell in her body is on fire. but instead of popping up with a new face, bursting with golden energy, she takes one last, desperate breath, exhales black smoke, and falls to the ground dead. in short, it's a reverse regeneration.
i think it'll be easier to just show you what i mean, given that a lot of what holds this theory up is the framing and direction of these scenes.

does any of this make sense. are you seeing what i'm seeing.
(tagging @silikat and @lyratelifeformapproximation bc they both expressed interest in hearing this theory :3 love yall)

The Report Card ā€“ Fantasy High Sophomore Year Ep 4
Skipper Thistlespring and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day
We pick back up at The Swanā€™s Little Parade where rich people shenanigans are taking place. Gorgug breaks from the group to try and call Zelda. When she doesnā€™t answer, he leaves the saddest, sweetest apology voicemail ever. Lou breaks. Siobhan breaks. I break.Ā
Meanwhile, the rest of the group gameplans. Adaine pushes back against the idea that they have to talk to Aelwyn. Her parents are also an option and Aelwyn is not a good person, no matter how hot Fabian is for her. They also check out the guest book from the hotel and see that Bill Seacaster has stayed there several times, always right after a Garthy Oā€™Brien (they see that it happened a bunch while they were in jail and it was probably in conjunction with when Bill was supplying palimpsests). Fabian recognizes the name as a pirate and Cathilda knows they run the Gold Gardens which is a floating pirate casino/brothel.
Kristen tries to release Gorthalax but just confirms that, because of the curse, doing it without messing up Gorthalax is gonna be tough.Ā
Sandra-Lynn goes to get Gorgug while Fig decides to careen the campaign into Crazytown and make herself Empress for Life of the same. She disguises herself as an old lady and tries to drop off a note giving her phone number as the new number of the cop she impersonated last episode (Detective Decker) so she can send a fully grown cop texts that would def get him Chris Hansenā€™d irl. Brennan decides that if sheā€™s gonna keep making beds, she should probably lie in one of them for once and comes for her entire life in the funniest scene of the episode. No recap I could give can do it justice(links to clips here: x, x). Just know it ends with Fig running away and ditching her phone in a lake, which could very possibly have plot consequences if she forgets to replace her phone before sheā€™s in a tight spot where it would be helpful and the absolute dumbest/funniest reason for a character death (I want to note that she did replace her phone technically, but with a huge, old, brick phone from Adaineā€™s jacket that canā€™t be as useful as an actual cell).Ā
ANYWAY
Tracker creates a Moon Haven in the van which is basically like a dope pillow fort with the Sanctuary spell cast on it and TARDIS bigger-on-the-inside spatial mechanics. Once theyā€™re inside the Moon Haven, Ragh finally feels safe to tell them what he knows--which he does telepathically via Adaine and the message spell to make everything extra safe. Hereā€™s a rundown of what he tells them:
He saw Kalina on the night of prom after the big fight. She was talking to Jace (the sorcery ā€œteacherā€) and an elven woman who looked like Adaine in black robes--Adaine confirmed with a picture that it was her mother.Ā
After being healed by Porter, Ragh started walking home and was stopped by Kalina who said she would kill his mom if he told anyone what he saw.Ā
Raghā€™s mom Lydia is also a half-orc barbarian. She was on a mission in the Red Waste (where the 7 Maidens have their Sophomore Year quest) and they found a soul gem that was leaking something bad. She put it in her chest to contain the evil but at the cost of her health. Sheā€™s now extremely sick and in a permanent, medically-induced rage to keep her alive. She refuses medical treatment because no one can ensure the evil wonā€™t be released if they remove the gem.Ā
His mom fucking slaps.
So thatā€™s all deeply worrying. Adaine invites Ragh and his mom to live with them in the Haunted House and Fig offers to give them Dr. Ashaā€™s number. Gorgug discovers the Van can become a boat which is convenient for the pirate-y things they have to do (the Golden Gardens is on the way to Falinel so they decide to stop there first). Fig has a heart to heart with Gilear while Adaine and Sandra-Lynn take first watch outside since the Moon Haven can only hold nine people. Adaine has to roll a wisdom save because sheā€™s outside of the Havenā€™s protection and, even on a 16, the music goes all scary and she feels that something is in the tent with her outside. Something humanoid and her size with its knees to its chest. She senses that if she sees its face, something will happen to her and, instead of looking at it, she calls for Sandra-Lynn. By the time she shows up, the thing is gone. Fig assures Adaine that sheā€™s not crazy or seeing things and, based on Adaineā€™s description, theyā€™re able to deduce that it wasnā€™t Baron or Kalina.Ā
In the morning, Gorgug is pretty bummed and asks everyone to call him Skipper. Kristen is very down and Fabian is very not. They discuss whether they should tell all of the information from Ragh to the 7 Maidens (no) and whether Gorgug should call Zelda (yes). They drive into the sea. Gorgug finally talks to Zelda who is not happy with him for the ghosting and unintentional thoughtlessness. Sheā€™s even less happy with him when she realizes he forgot to get the generator they needed to stay in touch long distance. Theyā€™re breaking up. Do I mean relationship-wise or phone-wise? You donā€™t know? Well that makes two of us (Thanks, I Hate It).
Theyā€™re at sea for two days and then make it to the floating pirate shipwreck city of Leviathan. Pirate adventures next week, yā€™all!Ā
Detention
Fig for Trying to Seduce ANOTHER Middle-Aged Man
Listen, Iā€™ll stop putting her here for this when she stops doing this. Not to mention, she invented a whole ass person (HILDA HILDA?????) when sheā€™s just been told that nightmare monsters are being generated from lies. Fig, my girl. Ms. Faeth. Please. Iā€™m begging you. Please.Ā
Honor Roll
All of the Adults for Stepping Up
Every single adult in this episode was on fire. Fig confided in Gilear and he stepped up to the plate with a This-Is-So-Serious-Iā€™m-Going-To-Use-Your-Actual-Full-Name, speech. Sandra-Lynn showed Adaine how to do some ranger stuff and jumped in to save her when she cried out. Cathilda was ready with warm milk and cookies she somehow was able to make in the van as soon as Adaine needed them. Sandra-Lynn also had a heart to heart with Fig and even Gorthalax, whoā€™s still trapped in the ruby, gave Fig a spell slot back. And, of course, Raghā€™s mom slaps.Ā
Random Thoughts
Adaine and Fabian both being uber rich but being on the opposite ends of the rich people spectrum is hilarious. Adaine is a ā€œSleeping in a van? Iā€™ve heard of that but Iā€™ve never gotten to do it. This will be fun!ā€ Rich KidĀ  and Fabian is a ā€œNo turn down service? Hard pass,ā€ Rich Kid.Ā
I was happy that they brought Ragh along for comedy reasons but who knew he was gonna be so chock full of backstory and important story beats? Like, every good GM has a way of making whatever story path that was chosen seem like the only way the story could have gone and Iā€™m sure that whoever was picked, Brennan would have made that seem like the obvious and essential choices but Iā€™m very happy they picked Ragh. Him talking about how much he loves his mom was so adorable! I love that heā€™s a big, good, dumb boy now and Iā€™m happy they invited him to live at the Haunted House. Thatā€™s def gonna be good for some shenanigans (also love that Adaineā€™s only stipulation was that he had to be nice to Zayn and he was so eager to agree).Ā Ā
Insane Ally Move of the Game: Deciding that Kristen genuinely doesnā€™t know Gilear used to be lunch lad at their school. Is Kristen even on the same plane of existence as everyone else. And then, later, ā€œI worry about Gilear.ā€ Do you really???
I totally forgot that Gilear was not only an elven diplomat but also a full on actual counselor. Makes it even wilder that he lost the job to Jawbone. Also, while weā€™re talking about him, I said we were gonna inevitably gonna get some more color on Gilear this season and we saw some of that in this ep when Adaine uses detect thoughts on him (which, btw, seems like a horribly invasive thing that people do very casually in this world) and we see that he gave up his career for Sandra-Lynn and then was wrecked when she cheated on him. Really puts a melancholy shade over his hilarious ineptness.Ā
Another thing I figured weā€™d see soon and that weā€™re starting to see is Adaine speaking up on Aelwyn. Two times this ep she tried to steer the group away from Aelwyn and seemed more serious than her usual trash talk. As excited as I am for pirate adventures, I want to get to Falinel ASAP to see how this shakes out.Ā
Also, on the mom front, wild that we found out that Ragh has a super dope mom in the same scene Adaine took another L and found out that her mom is also involved in this shadiness. Black robes are never a good sign. But I will say, just based on the story beats weā€™ve gotten, Iā€™m not totally sold on the idea that sheā€™s 100% bad--or at least that she doesnā€™t care for Adaine at all. Iā€™m wondering if she wasnā€™t at school trying to find Adaine (possibly among other things).Ā
ā€œEvery time you have sex itā€™s a gamble. You could lose your heart.ā€/ā€What happened to you on tour?ā€
Gorgug trying to let a full sized griffon land on his arm is hilarious. I love that. Heā€™s so wholesome and dumb.
I love that when Emily was doing her Hilda-Hilda nonsense , turned into Detective Decker, and ran past the police house precinct, Lou was the only person who was on her wavelength and understood what she was trying to do while everyone else was like????
We find out in this ep that Van can control all the auxiliary functions of the van but not the actual driving, which is important to know before a sticky situation. On a more personal note, we find out that he was originally a planetar (second most powerful D&D angel) of Elysium, specializing in harmony, relaxation, and chill vibes and he got dumped and kicked out of heaven for sleeping through a call to battle.
We also get the cursed image of a van with hands which I knew was gonna be the shirt and lo and behold.Ā
ā€œFuck Me.ā€/ā€When.ā€ Yā€™all are the worst.Ā
I love that Brennan mentioned Porter in Raghā€™s flashback, fully knowing it was gonna trigger Emily.Ā
Figā€™s new plan is to get all of her parents in a throuple and I donā€™t even know where to begin with that tbh so I wonā€™t.
@voxfantasma made a comment last week that Sandra-Lynn very well could have seen Kalina which is why she can she her in the photo--which is an offhand comment I made when I was talking about the rules of the photo last week--and Raghā€™s reaction to the photo is making me move this theory back up to the top spot. I still wish they would show the photo to more people so weā€™d have more data for this.Ā
I loved Fig tossing Fabian a bardic inspiration for a compliment even though he didnā€™t really need it. I also love that she has a rider in her rockstar contract necessitating gogurt be at all her shows for Gilear.Ā
Adaine paranoidly casting water breathing on everyone at the slightest hint that they may have to go near water. Our girl is learning from the mistakes of the last oracle.Ā
With the gang facing off against the Nightmare King and Brennanā€™s description of the thing in Adaineā€™s tent as being humanoid, about her side, and sitting in a sort of defensive way, Iā€™m wondering it what it was was a manifestation of her own anxiety or something along those lines. Of course, it could just be a normal ass monster. Sometimes the scariest thing is your inner turmoil and sometimes itā€™s just a monster trying to bite your head off.Ā
We also learn that Cathilda has a super wild adventurerā€™s life before she settled down to be a maid--so she knows what sheā€™s missing and sheā€™s fine with it--and also that she is paid ridiculously well, which makes me feel better about whatā€™s going on with her. Also, her moment with Adaine and the cookies was so sweet. My notes for that scene say,Ā ā€œAdaine loves Cathilda and so do I.ā€
I loved Murph and Riz going equally Pepe Silvia trying to anagram out Garthy Oā€™Brien (which is also what I was doing, especially since Brennan specifically spelled out the name). Cheers to Murph/Riz and Siobhan/Adaine trying to single handedly keep the story on track--both in and out of character.
Thereā€™s a part in this ep where Adaine Ray of Frosts Fig who immediately Hellish Rebukes her and thatā€™s truly the kind of step-sister shenanigans I want to see from them as much as possible please and thank you. Also, like I said before, it was very sweet of Fig to reassure Adaine that she wasnā€™t just seeing things in the tent. Her catfishing middle aged men aside, she can be very empathetic when she wants to be.Ā Ā
Adaine cast (or tried to cast Friends) on the thing in her tent. And I think itā€™s very telling about her character that thatā€™s the spell she would cast and not an offensive one. Not that messing w/ someoneā€™s brain is a super chill thing to do or anything, but I think,Ā ā€œMaybe I can calm whoever this is and talk to them and we can get some information,ā€ is a much more measured reaction than maybe,Ā ā€œLetā€™s blast this thing to kingdom come and ask questions later.ā€
ā€œMan van is a boat, my boat is a van.ā€
Brennan lets Adaine roll w/ advantage to convince the Hangman to come with them on the Van (which he still hates) because she said, ā€œPleaseā€ really cute which is the kind of arbitrary DM fiat that I love.Ā
Adaine: We should tell them unless weā€™re being graded on a curve. (Savage.)
ā€œFig, sheā€™s a maid. Sheā€™s not allowed to lie.ā€
All the skipper talk this ep got the Gilliganā€™s Island theme stuck in my head (never seen an ep but my mom watches it sometimes) so the next day I was getting dressed going ā€œWith Fabian, and the skipper too, the oracle, the PI,ā€ to the GI theme song. Also, did not know skipper and captain were the same title until Fabian got all upset and I looked it up. Yet another piece of information I know because of some game (along with what a panacea is (Dragon Quest 9) and where the CDC is (Pandemic)).
Gorgug, being offered a virgin daiquiri: No thanks, Iā€™m driving. (Iā€™ve said this before: Zac low key has the best comic timing of anyone.)
When Riz is angraming, one of the things he ends up with is something about a ā€œnight yorbā€ which Brennan decided is a real thing that both the Hangman and the Van are very wary about. Having the Hangman constantly being like, ā€œSPEAK NOT OF THE NIGHT YORB!ā€ and the Van being like, ā€œSeriously, donā€™t fuck with the night york,ā€ was so funny and such nonsense. I canā€™t wait for the night yorb mini boss fight that has to happen now because of the rule of funny.
Gorgug comes down from his call with Zelda and everyone except for Fabian (and probably Ragh who cannon-balls off the boat w/ Fabian and they both have to be rescued by Sandra-Lynn) knows exactly what happened immediately. Aw, buddy. One of my favorite things about media where you have kids saving the world is you have relationship drama and also the world is ending and it all feels equally high stakes. I find that so funny but also it feels very representative of what high school was like, or at least what it felt like (minus the literal apocalypse, obv. Or maybe not. Idk what was going on at your high school).Ā
Adaine continues lending out Boggy to anyone who needs him.
Also, Gorgug tries to build a cell tower with driftwood and parts from Adaineā€™s jacket. Itā€™s not going super hot.Ā
Both Adaine and Riz are podcast nerds and listen to This Solesian Life. All checks out. Their friendship is underrated.Ā Ā
ā€œIā€™m feeling really bad and my van is a boat.ā€
ā€œI was gonna be straight edge except for drugs,ā€ gives me ā€œSober saladā€ energy.Ā
The whole discussion about Kristen getting tracker silly putty for her birthday.Ā
The Van was serving some serious Ned Flanders energy along with the Owen Wilson energy this episode.Ā
Brennan does pretty good whale noises.Ā
Only crit this episode is Fig with a nat 20 insight to know Gorgugā€™s conversation with Zelda did not go well. Which is something sheā€™d crit on.

3, 17, 27?
Hi, thank you for asking!
Top 5 underrated TV shows
Idk what really qualifies as underrated, but Iā€™ll try my best.
1. Legends of Tomorrow
Like, outside of the cult following, people donā€™t give it credit for being one of the most creative and batshit crazy shows on TV. I think what really gets missed in the conversation about Legends, even when the show is brought up, is that itā€™s not just a weird, kooky show. I genuinely believe LoT is doing something that no other show on TV is doing rn. Like it may be silly, and not take itself too seriously, but itā€™s actually super creative, it tries new things, it takes risks that shows that take themselves more seriously donā€™t have the luxury of taking. Itā€™s out there doing something genuinely different from the regular serialized drama format thatā€™s overtaking television, and thatā€™s unique and important and we should appreciate it more. Ā
2. Every show for or about women thatā€™s ever been referred to as a ā€œguilty pleasureā€ by men, including but not limited to: BtVS, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Jane the Virgin, Sex and the City (I havenā€™t even seen it, but I know that it changed television as we know it, and men still dismiss it as meaningless fluff), Gilmore Girls, and too many other shows to list here. All of them are underrated by assholes who think theyā€™re too good for girl things.
3. Blackadder
Yā€™know, the concept of something being underrated is super weird, because like the question becomes: underrated by who? I mean, if youā€™re in the know about British comedies or whatever, then of course you know that Blackadder is one of the funniest and most innovative shows ever. But with everyone else Iā€™ve talked to in real life, Iā€™ve had to explain that Mr. Bean and Dr. House dress up in period costumes, and hang out with different important historical figures in British history, and itā€™s really funny and great (except for maybe the first season). Ā
4. Donā€™t Trust the B in Apartment 23
And then on the other hand, Iā€™m pretty sure a lot of people on Tumblr know what this show is, and know itā€™s hilarious, but I would still probably consider it underrated and pretty unknown outside of certain circles.
5. Sense8
Again, Iā€™m not sure itā€™s underrated on Tumblr but more people need to see it, so Iā€™m counting it. I like Sense8 for the same reason I like Legends: it took risks, and did things other shows werenā€™t doing, albeit on a much larger and more unruly budget, which is probably why it got cancelled. But it really was a great, if short lived show, and I wish it had gone on for longer.
Top 5 ā€œdeserved betterā€ characters
1. Kendra Young
Yeah, so I think there are two reasons that Kendraā€™s death makes me so angry. The first being just how much potential was wasted with her death. Yeah, they made her do a goofy accent, but she was still a really interesting character. Her worldview was completely entrenched in that of the Council. She was raised by them, and had never rebelled like Giles had. She would have made an amazing contrast to Buffy and the gang, but I also think thereā€™s a really great story there about her coming to terms with just how exploited by those assholes she had been. Also, her dynamic with Buffy was already fascinating, and I think they had really good chemistry (I ship it).
The other reason her death makes me so angry is that she is the most obvious example of the horrendous treatment of people of color on BtVS. It really is unacceptable how white that show is, and once the writers finally did create an interesting and powerful (if admittedly pretty stereotypical) woman of color, they killed her off after three episodes. Kendra deserved better just like every other non-white character on BtVS deserved better.
2. Meg Manning and Paker Lee
(Yeah, Iā€™m cheating, itā€™s a tie.) So one of the main issues that I have with Veronica Mars is that there just arenā€™t that many women on the show. With the exception of Veronica herself, most of the main characters are men, and most of Veronicaā€™s important relationships, be they romantic, familial, or platonic, are with men.
The female characters we do have either have very little screentime, in spite of their considerable awesomeness (Mac and Jackie). Or, in the case of Meg and Parker, are used and disposed of according to the needs of the plot, often to create drama in Veronicaā€™s love life. Meg surviving the bus crash, only to be killed off once sheā€™d given birth, basically because she was no longer relevant to the Duncan/Veronica story is super icky and gross. And Parker getting dismissed as nothing more than road bump in LoVeā€™s story by both the show and the fandom drives me a little crazy, especially considering how she was introduced to the show.
Also, while weā€™re at it, every single ā€˜feministā€™ character in season 3 deserved better from Rob Thomas.
3. Tara Maclay
She deserved to live, and we the viewers deserved better than Bury Your Gays.
4. Martha Jones
I mean, Martha Jones deserved better from the fandom more than anything else. And Iā€™m adding her to the list because Iā€™m one of the many people who owes Martha and Freema Agyeman an apology. I was like 12 when I watched Doctor Who for the first time, and I totally bought into the racist sexist bullshit (sheā€™s boring, why is she in love with the Doctor, etc.). To be fair, I also bought into a lot of sexist bullshit when it came to Rose, so I hated her too, but obviously Martha got the shorter end of the stick, because of racism, and she deserved so, so much better.
5. Donna Noble
Fuck the amnesia bullshit and erasing her character development. Why did they have to do this to her? What possible purpose did it serve? Why not just give her a reason to leave and go home like every other companion? Wtf was the point? Was it just so that the doctor would have manpain about it?
Nevermind, I think I just answered my own question.
Top 5 brotps
Ok, not including any relationships I view as purely familial (Dawn and Buffy, Giles and Buffy, Tara and Dawn, Holt and anybody, etc.). Friendships only.
1. Buffy and Willow
Buffy and Willow love each other so much, and they hurt each other a lot too. This relationship isnā€™t simple and sweet, it starts out that way, but it becomes difficult, and they both do things to one another that I donā€™t think either one of them ever fully forgives the other for. But even still, at their worst, they love each other so deeply and so completely. This relationship is at the core of the show, I think. Itā€™s arguably the first relationship the show establishes, and the one it spends most time on. The ups and downs are painful, but they feel real (even when they involve things like bringing someone back from the dead without their consent or whatever). And through it all, they never stop loving each other. As flawed as it may be, I think itā€™s also one of the most complex, interesting, and important relationships between two women ever on television. And thatā€™s worth celebrating.
2. Jane and Petra
So Iā€™ve been on a bit of a Jane the Virgin kick lately, and Iā€™ll be honest, I canā€™t decide if this is a brotp or an otp. But I love Petramos too, so letā€™s go with brotp.
In any case, these two were pretty much my endgame for the show. I really didnā€™t care who Jane ended up with (unless it was Petra, but I knew that wasnā€™t going to happen), and I got sick of her love triangle real quick (to be fair, I just really canā€™t stand love triangles, which is why I didnā€™t give the show a shot for a long time). As for Petra, I just really wanted her to have a healthy relationship with someone, and Jane seemed to be the only person who seemed interested in having a healthy relationship with her.
Plus their dynamic is just amazing and hilarious. My favorite scenes in the show are always when theyā€™re on screen together. The way they grudgingly grow to care about and love each other is genuinely sweet and well developed. And I love how even when they do become friends, their basic moral divide never changes. They still disagree very strongly about certain things, but they love each other regardless. And btw, the scene where they say ā€œI love youā€ to each other for the first time might be my favorite ā€œI love youā€ scene ever, platonic or otherwise.
I just love them so much.
3. Gurl Group (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend)
This is another show about romance where Iā€™m far more invested in the female friendship than I am in any of the romances, but to be fair, I think CxG kind of wants you to do that anyway.
Regardless, I love everyone in this Gurl Group, individually and together. And their individual relationships are already fascinating. Like, Rebecca and Valenciaā€™s frienship is pure enemies to lovers friends bliss and I love it. Rebecca and Paulaā€™s relationship is the heart of the show, and like Buffy and Willow, this relationship is often difficult and complicated, but the love is always there. And we never had enough scenes of Heather and Valencia interacting. Every scene where they were together was pure comedic gold. And the group together as a whole was just so powerful and amazing to behold.
4. Amy and Rosa
They do not have enough scenes together. This relationship deserves the same amount of care and development as Jake and Charles get. Melissa and Stephanie have great chemistry. And like, their characters are so different, so the contrast is always so funny. But they also love each other, and support each other, and itā€™s so much fun to watch. I need 10000% more Amy/Rosa content.
5. Buffy and Veronica
This oneā€™s probably also cheating because itā€™s a crossover and all, but Iā€™m just kind of obsessed with the idea of them meeting, sparks flying, enemies to lovers friends, the works. They would just have such a fantastic dynamic. Like, think of all the verbal sparring that we would be blessed with. Think of all the drama and angst of them coming to understand and respect each other. If there is one crossover that I would will into existence if I could, it would definitely be this one.
