#if i could only pick ONE it’d definitely be dru#like do i think that that’s the healthiest option oh heck no :)#they’re just. literally everything to me <33#they’re vampires and slayers and people who Didn’t Want This and they both try so hard to be good but just the influence of this outside#thing this thing that doesn’t care about them makes them the way that they are but they still try to go back to it!! buffy and her girlhood#and dru and her want for a family and these powers don’t care!! the watchers don’t care about buffy’s life before angel and darla don’t car#that drusilla never wanted this and like THAT TOO. never not thinking about how the rest of the whirlwind or whatever WANTED to be turned#but DRU DIDN’T. and like that’s so interesting to me to think about like for the rest of them it was something good right but not for her.#they never asked. they never asked the slayers either. who cares what you can do if you never wanted to do it#and like. idk but drusilla who’s this nun this seer and angel makes it his goal to corrupt her and then buffy the slayer comes along and he#tries to do the same thing! to make her the next dru!#also like smaller stuff the prophetic dreams the birthdays like WHOS TO SAY DRU COULDNT HAVE FOUGHT FOR GOOD WHOS TO SAY BUFFY COULDNT HAVE#GOTTEN CORRUPTED TOO#who’s to say other than the people who tried to exert control over a life that wasn’t theirs (x)

#the way cordy is genuinely jealous of buffy#she wants her life: to be a social outcast. to have real friends. To have that perceived depth#cordelia wants to live a life that matters but she is trapped in by trying to live a life other people think matters#literally YOU GO OUT EVERY NIGHT is killing me this is so clever#Cordy’s desire in her behavior but her rejection in her words#of Buffy’s freaky monster life ……#IT’S SO QUEER (x)

#yes!! cordelia being Normal Girl who wants so badly to be important and to Matter in some tangible way#but due to her yknow NOT having supernatural powers the best way she can think to do that is by pursuing high school popularity#going out and dancing with cute boys and her gaggle of friends who secretly dont care if she lives or dies#because what else is she to do?#and its all so empty#she wants her life to mean more#and she gazes to the scoobies who love each other and literally have risked their lives for each other over and over again#buffy is their protector#cordelia wants to be that kind of important#meanwhile buffy detests the responsibility forced on her by slayerhood#she just wants to be out shopping and dancing and doing normal girl stuff#but instead shes directly responsible for the lives of everyone around her#at the end of the day these two both just long for the other's percieved autonomy#which is like#such a nuanced allegory for the angst that comes built into girlhood through the confines of misogyny#girls look at each other and think 'i dont think im doing this right but clearly SHE is' (x)

#i like Eliza Dushku but can you just IMAGINE if the show gave Faith's storyline to Kendra#Not-A-Toe out of line Kendra still feeling isolated#Becomes Rebel!Kendra and then Buffy realizes that she made this girl into a monster by encouraging her to break the rules#but neglecting to ensure that she was emotionally supported#or that the consequences to their rulebreaking was equal#then Wesley Wesleying at Kendra#the Mayor fills the void left by Kendra getting taken away from her parents (x)

#no ur right and u should say it#faith is my best friend and i think kendra would’ve taken it in a diff direction#bc kendra is still. like.#faith is what if buffy didn’t have the people she had#and kendra is what if all buffy had was slaying#and those are two very similar but very different things!!#faith knew to miss those things but kendra didn’t#she had her stake and she called it mr pointy and what would it have been like to slip up and shove mr pointy into a human man#kendra believed in the mission! believed in protecting people! what would happen if she’d hurt one#and what would it do to buffy if she was the one who set kendra on the path. encouraged a little rebellion#in the span of a handful of months kendra kissed her first boy and killed her first man#and faith as the kendra would be interesting too#faith shows up and she’s reckless and jaded and angry and angel kills her#a kind of warning for buffy about what would happen to her if she let herself reach that point#because she could! she could so easily be faith#but she could never be kendra because faith is a buffy that went too far and buffy is kind of a kendra that went too far#and now kendra is too#IT WOULD BE SO GOOD IS ALL IM SAYIBG#(wait tag edit i just realized i erased women i know dru kills kendra i got ahead of myself thought wise JKDFKHFDG)#(i just think it should be angel bc they get a bestie arc i think it makes it more dramatic bc shes kind of a reflection of him as well)#(whereas it can probably be argued that kendra is kind of a reflection of dru tbh. smth abt the innocence coexisting with violence) (x)

My probably unpopular opinion is I’d trade Faith if it meant we could keep Kendra

#this set is about the inherent gay longing of gazing at another girl through a window :)#the window as a kind of reflection but also as a barrier#cordy living her ordinary girl life // buffy living her slayer life as things that are inaccessible to the other#the outside-looking-in-ness. watching your counterpart live their parallel life u can never have. did i mention the longing???? (x)

#cordy said oh ok u have a new brunette gf ok ill just bully u extra hard this week and I’m fine about it#both of them gazing at what they wish they had that the other represents#buffy wants Cordelia’s normality and cordelia wants the depth of Buffy’s connections with others#the kicker of it is that they’re both so lonely on the other side of that longing (x)

#oh to be buffy summers and wanting a normal life with normal experiences#oh to be cordelia chase and wanting to be important in a way that matters beyond high school#oh to be both and realize that no one gets what they want. ever (x)

#godddddd#we talk a lot about how much buffy longs for cordys 'normal girl' life (for good reason obvi) but not as much about cordy's longing#because at first glance its hard to see what part of the slayer's life could possibly be appealing to cordy#we're told that cordy is vapid and shallow and would never want to spend her time covered in monster blood#but in the early seasons cordy's whole arc is about her longing to have real friends#people that would be there by her side even if it was inconvenient#or even life threatening#she longs for the tight-knit community buffy has built in the scoobies#deep down she longs to serve a purpose bigger than herself#she wants to make her mark on the world the way buffy seems to do so effortlessly time and time again#and there is a deep primal rage she wants so badly to express#but she was not blessed/cursed with supernatural powers that allow her to express this in a constructive way#so instead she enacts power over others through snide remarks and manipulation#but its hollow and she knows that#so she hovers around buffy and the scoobies longing to be let into buffys world#she dates xander because at least hes in buffys orbit#and if she can influence him too that means she must have a divine gravitational pull too right?#but she knows itll never be the same for her#cordelia chase makes me insane (x)
