so in the almost-kiss scene, lucanis suddenly displays this confident swagger as he boxes rook in against the wall. and don’t get me wrong, it’s hot af, but it does contrast with some of his other behavior. and right when his rizz is absolutely rizzing, he stops. he seems to have a revelation of some kind and he panics and leaves
since we unfortunately never get an in-game callback to this moment, we’re left with no canon explanation of his thought process at that moment
what we do know is that he considers rook his first real relationship. however, i’d be willing to bet that he is trained in seduction to a certain extent. after all, it’s a very useful strategy for getting close to a mark. and even if lucanis never used it much (or at all—and he certainly never used it as casually as illario), the training is there. and in a moment of emotion, it just… kicks in
but then, either because of his own conscience or perhaps a dig from spite, he realizes what he is doing. and he’s thrown. he cares about rook, he wants to tell them, but all he has to offer is this fake playacting that does not truly show his heart
and that is not good enough. not for rook
so what does he do? he finds a way to show his feelings in a more authentic way. a more personal way. he cooks for them. cooking is a skill he gained because he wanted to, not because caterina made him learn it. and when rook says he didn’t have to do that, he immediately contradicts them
yes, i did
he did need to. he needed to share what he feels in a way that he knows is his and no one else’s, a way that feels untainted by all his other baggage
and when rook responds with genuine happiness and appreciation, he feels seen and loved for who he truly is. and from then on, he is theirs, body, mind, and soul

Rook being a very physically touchy person and Lucanis avoiding touch at all costs from built up trauma from childhood, his work as a Crow, and the Ossuary. Them always asking for Lucanis' permission to touch him, and before Tearstone Island, they hug him and he still flinches but he holds them tight
As Rook is taken into the Regret prison and they see a vision of Lucanis' body on the ground, they scream his name out of concern and fear but all Lucanis hears is them screaming for him to help, and then they're gone. They're gone. He thinks they were screaming his name, begging him to save them and now they're gone.
Weeks into Rook being taken into the Regret prison and now a man who couldn't be touched without reflexively drawing a blade is craving the warmth of his partner who he thinks he'll never see again
Lucanis pulling Rook out of the prison, knowing it's them right away because of their hands. He missed their hands, he missed their touch, he missed their warmth, he missed them.
When Rook gets back, Lucanis' touch is slow and soft, almost unbelieving. Weeks of stress and torture and pain and guilt and regret, and now they're here. Once they're finally together, he feels as though the world is in their arms and if killing a god is the only way to stay there, he will do what a Crow does best and fulfill this contract

Okay listen, i want nothing more than a happy ending for dorian, let him be free, let him be happy, let him be himself, let him be dorian storm. But man, I am foaming at the mouth at the prospect of a Silken Squall / Wyvernwind family drama arc. I want it all. I want that conflict, I want that lore. And I want Dorian to come out happier and freer than ever. Let that boy open up the world for his people!!

Mourn Watch Rook being a covert freak is so precious to me. They’ve had a year outside of Nevarra so they’ve managed to figure out what’s okay to say and what’s going to get people looking at them like they’ve got a second head until Emmrich shows up at the Lighthouse and the weird just starts coming out in full force. Harding said that Rook talks different when discussing Mourn Watch things and that was just about an academic topic about the nature of souls and spirits when reanimating a skeleton. Just imagine how much worse it gets when Rook and Emmrich start talking about preferred embalming practices and the like. Everyone straight up turns around and heads back to whence they came when they walk into a room and spot Emmrich and Rook chatting. Nothings worth overhearing whatever grotesque topic they’re cheerfully chatting about over a cup of tea and plate full of cookies. Maybe Bellara will join in if they’re discussing the more theoretical aspects of magic but everyone else is booking it out of there as quick as they can before they hear something they’re not going to be able to forget

Let’s talk about Emmrich, specifically let’s talk about flirting with him after he first joins the team because I’m seeing a lot of discourse expressing frustration that he appears unmoved by your attempts to gain his attention, except, he knows what your doing. He’s holding back and let’s explore why -
Taking a step back, let’s look at who Emmrich is in terms of that public facing persona:
A Professor, who actively teaches.
An expert in his field who is prolific enough that Bellara, a Dalish elf living in relative isolation, knows who he is.
He written books, Davrin talks about this.
He’s wealthy, wealthy enough that Harding mistakes him for nobility.
All these factors have likely won him a lot of attention. Emmrich tells you in the romantic interest scene with the skull that if your interest ‘goes beyond charming flattery’ then he’s interested in exploring that as well.
This line tells me that flirting with him, at least at the start, is something he considers transactional. He gets it a lot when people around him might try and charm him for various reasons; could be students looking for better grades, or others studying his field of expertise attempting to gain recognition from him, even, perhaps, the odd person who might view Emmrich as a possible sugar daddy (you’re all thinking it).
So, Rook rocks up, shows interest in him and he’s seen it all before - until Emmrich realises that Rook means it, the interest is genuine, no subterfuge. We see that through the gradual reciprocation of flirting; that soft line about picking extraordinary moments for compliments, the relaxing into the flirtation during the first visit after bringing out tea, showing you his magic.
He knows you’re flirting, he’s just making sure it’s genuine first.

will NEVER get over how spite is just as in love with rook as lucanis
not only is he obsessed with them from the very beginning, he's fully present during almost every romance scene with rook and lucanis
the almost-kiss? i fully believe that he pulled back because spite was trying to wrest control from him because SPITE wanted to kiss rook just as much as he did
he's there at the cafe in act 3, fully just there on their date
the post-*spoilers* couch scene? it's established that lucanis has no control over the wings, it's fully spite. when those wings come out it's because SPITE was getting in on the action.

Are you normal or did Matthew Mercer tell you to your face that Essek Thelyss grew his hair out because he felt like he could finally settle down for a normal life and also because his boyfriend looks hot with long hair so why not him too.
