Saw someone mention Beast!Atsushi's collar on my timeline and got devasted by how pain is such an intricate part of his character and it has such a violently beautiful spin to it in the BEAST universe.

55 minutes explains it better than I can, but pain is consistantly so very important to the little tiger guy; pain is what makes him connect to others and understand them in ways other people might not (looking at you, Lucy Montgomery), it does shape him because that's all he knew, it is also something that makes him know he's alive and Wants to Live (Hi Shibusawa that is your doing), but--

-- but oh my god is BEAST fucking devastating in this regard. He doesn't just hate pain, he actively fears it, yet is constantly tormented by the aforementioned collar. Pain is quite literally all he knows most of the time, it's his ability limitator that quite literally keeps him from losing himself, and he's scared of the very safe net he has (if you can call it that).

Elise also tells him at the end of the book that he doesn't want to die, he just doesn't want to live, and that is potentially the saddest line I've seen Asagiri write because man. What the fuck.

Just thinking about how utterly tragic Soukoku is in Beast verse. Like, Beastzai has foresight of their original world and he knows what his relationship is like with Chuuya there. Despite their bickering they still look out for one another in the original world. There's no real miscommunication or doubt between them. They're always shown on the same wavelength.

But, man. In Beast until the bitter end he carries the belief that they are nowhere as close as they are in the original world. Chuuya has expressed trust issues with corruption and Beastzai had to straight up stab himself to otherwise manipulate Chuuya. Then the fact that after Beastzai's death Chuuya just...snaps.

Maybe in Beastzai's mind he wanted to keep Chuuya at arm's length in anticipation of when his time would come to an end to make it seemingly easier for Chuuya to take over, but at the same time that just also seems so weird. They knew each other for years still in Beast before Dazai became the leader.

I sometimes wonder about whether or not what Beastzai said was true about only three people max can know about there being alternate universes stemming from the book. It could be true, but it also seems oddly convenient. Fyodor's been hinted at in Beast, and considering what's going on currently in the manga, I wonder if with the tripolar singularity—specifically amenogozen—that would've allowed him to gain knowledge of the other worlds.

Because then that would mean more than three people already knew at the time of Beastzai's death.

It's all still just weird. I get this heavy feeling of what could've been avoided if, you know, Beastzai didn't suck at communicating. I guess technically telling Chuuya about the other world was useless if he really could only tell two others, so Akutagawa and Atsushi were the best candidates as Beastzai pushed them together to form Beast Shin Soukoku.

Though I feel like if that's the case, with the foresight Beastzai had into his relationship with Chuuya in the original world, why he'd expect Beastchuu to accept his death so casually. Yeah, Chuuya's no stranger to death around him, but they all still affect him whether it's his subordinates or friends dying.

Or maybe after he died, since that's one less person alive with the knowledge, he thought maybe Atsushi would pass it on to Chuuya.

I DON'T KNOW. Still makes me sad all the same.

But I definitely don't think he anticipated Chuuya going berserk and declaring war on the ADA. It's ironic in a bitter way that Beastzai could anticipate everything that would happen in their world because of what was going on in the original world, yet he tunnel visions and fails to account for the person closest to him.

In Beastzai's attempt to create a better alternate world, he doomed it at the same time.

hiiii :3 maybe you've seen this on the post i made about it the other day (and if not dw), but it was actually your question what made me think about beast atsulucy consistently (i'm brewing my thoughts about post-canon beast slowly in general, not gonna lie).

i really like concepts that take what happens in beast as that universe ada vs pm arc, then a lot of things happen more or less similarly, just with aku in atsushi's place and atsushi in aku's, so:

the guild coming to yokohama in pretty much the same way and doing the same stuff would mean is aku who lucy envies at first/asks to go and find her shortly after, with or without an initial crush.

(i'm gonna say unrequited bcs this is about atsulucy and not aku/lucy, and bcs i hc aku too consistently as gay to personally go that route.)

anyway, since atsushi's not a pm member after the events of beast per se, i think atsulucy would have a very calmer 1st meeting, with also the possibility of some conflict if atsushi gets involved in taking down moby dick anyway.

atsushi could invite lucy to the orphanage, no matter if she chooses to stay or not.

if none of them knows about the other being in their respective former organizations, i can see both becoming increasingly nervous about the other knowing in a "what is my crush gonna think about me, what if that ruins my chances" way... until they come clean and everything's good.

the angst potential if atsushi here's the one getting struck down by fukuchi and becomes the 1st vampire!!!! atsushi saying goodbye to her before going to the ship, lucy freaking out about the radio silence till someone (aku? another ada member?) tells her, the funeral,,,, lucy crying of relief when everything's over but also smacking atsushi lkjlkf.

also, this applies to every universe BUT i need to spread the t4t & bi4bi atsulucy agenda.
