Fallen Angels #5
Tumblr media
Psylocke and her team are back in Krakoa in Fallen Angels #5. They had an encounter with Apoth and the children he is using to do his bidding. Now the must regroup and recruit more allies to fight him where he lives. Sinister offers the tech to enter the world of a digital god. And Magneto provides the transportation to rain fire on Apoth's epicenter. With new allies Husk and Bling, they are set to find and destroy Apoth. But they don't even have to fight for the humans anymore. Apoth cannot enter Krakoa so he poses no threat. But this group of Angels are determined to fight for justice.

Fallen Angels #5 This was a really good issue, setting up for what appears to be the final assault on Apoth. X-23 gathering more mutants to fight with them is awesome. People don't know Kwannon so it would be hard for them to follow her without Laura's influence. Cable was let go to return to Krakoa, so Apoth must know they are coming for him. It will be interesting how they will be able to fight this digital god. The art is wonderful. I love how Kudranski sets the characters apart from the background. The colors are beautiful. I like the transition from the vibrant Krakoan scenery to the the darkness of Bar Sinister and the dwelling of Apoth. It looks like next issue is the end for Fallen Angels. So it's exciting to see how this will end. Credits Writer: Bryan Hill Artist: Szymon Kudranski Colors: Frank D'Armata Letters: Joe Sabino Read the full article

Random acts of me being bored and deciding to try and fill in the gaps because DC clearly needs someone doing their job for them
alright, so here's how Duke's shadow powers work. Duke's power is photokinesis, a very specific form of photokinesis that allows him to pull light into his eyes, process the light in a superhuman way, and manipulate the way the light relays information for different optical effects; telescopic vision, microscopic vision, retro-cognition, precognition, the ability to perceive the known electromagnetic spectrum and beyond, multiversal perception, etcetera. So Duke's most fundamental ability is the ability to absorb light, and Ishmael has the ability to "evolve" metahumans with his touch, which resulted in Duke getting his shadow powers when Ishmael touched him. so I would take "evolve" to mean Ishmael expands the capabilities of the metahuman's inherent power. That would mean the shadow abilities can only work as an extension of Duke's fundamental ability to absorb light, which it could, because all a shadow is, is an absence of light in a given area. So the question becomes, how do you bridge the gap? how (and why) would his powers go from absorbing light straight through his eyes to creating shadows that envelope a wide area?
So here is how Duke's powers have work, Ishmael would have to had expanded Duke's light-absorbing capabilities, and in so, his [Duke's] body is creating a route to absorb more light over a wider area, directly into the body. So the shadow is a pseudo-plasmic light pigment, free-flowing molecules emanating from Duke's body that absorb or redistribute surrounding photons by carrying to and from Duke psyini; he's effectively melinating space. Now, for me, what's cool about this explanation is two-fold. It opens Duke up to have the ability to do a lot of cool creative stuff without breaking his abilities' premise (meh, breaking it further). Keeping his powers more utility than "shooting solar flares from my fingertips on some anime shit", maybe he could manipulate the light in the pseudo-shadow to project images and relay information, or make himself invisible, or make a whole area invisible, or brightly illuminate an area to blind an enemy - if they're creatively done, the skies the limit! the other cool thing, I like the idea of a black superhero who has the ability to make things blacker. Super melanin? Melanin as a superpower? that's black excellence! I love the symbolism.
thanks for coming my TED talk

Fallen Angels #4
Tumblr media
Apoth finally begins to reveal his origins to Psylocke in Fallen Angels #4. Plus he has even bigger plans for Cable than previously imagined. Using the cyber drug, Overclock, Apoth is using children to get the attention of Psylocke and her team. And not wanting to risk more harm to the children, they have to rush into situations without much information on their enemy. But unless they push forward, they may never know the truth, and Apoth will just destroy the kids anyway.

Fallen Angels #4 This series has been dark, mysterious and pretty creepy. That continues here but at least there is a good amount of movement of the plot forward. I'm really struggling to like this take on Laura Kinney after really enjoying the recent X-Men Red and X-23 series. And I'm not really sure what is going on with this series. It has started fairly slow, but has no issues in February or March. #5 and #6 are out in January so this could be a fairly short series. If it does end in January, I hope it goes big for the finale. I like Hill normally but this hasn't been a good series for me. Kudranski's art has been really good. Maybe a little too dark and gritty but mostly good.
