I'm getting through these so slowly 😭 Sorry for the wait! Time to ramble about everyone's favorite detective bird-

favorite thing about them

Weirdly, it's the contrast between how intelligent and logical Skeptic is as a character vs. how absurd and irrational the Construct is. The way Skeptic fights and seeks universal singular truth in a world that, by design, does not have any... which was so masterfully highlighted in the Cage and the new Den. I remember genuinely exclaiming "SKEPTIC NO, STOP-" when the tunnel began collapsing (though in fairness, Hero is the one who started it). And the way Skeptic blamed himself for not "thinking it through," because that's how he thinks the world around him should work:

"Why for the love of everything did I not think about the stability of the tunnels?! I'm supposed to be smarter than this! I'm supposed to have a plan for everything."

And the entire dialogue with Hero following that line, too-

...Long story short, there is something very tragic but incredibly appealing about putting a character, who is all about facts, logic, and deduction, into a world that shifts based on your perception where nothing is certain. Sorry Skeptic, love you Skeptic </3

least favorite thing about them

Rewritten and deleted lines from the Prisoner. Hands down. It's one of the few things I dislike about the DLC, and I choose to not accept it as canon. I really, really miss that triumphant "I knew it!" followed by "She couldn't tip her hand to Him. He wouldn't have let us leave." It really highlighted Skeptic's intelligence, along with an innate desire to trust the Prisoner, to think of her as someone with a plan. She wouldn't just cut off her own head like that, and he knew it.

I understand that this was done to make the lead-up to the Cage easier / more natural... but I feel like there were other ways to do it! Hero is right there, and he just watched Prisoner cut her head off, he could be disturbed and panicking about the whole situation and really want to leave, which would feel quite natural too! And then perhaps Skeptic was sure that Prisoner had a plan, but after you choose to leave her behind... he isn't so sure anymore, which could lead to him slowly losing his mind and devolving during the Cage. That would've been perfect, at least in my opinion!

Honorable mention goes to the fact that, even after the Pristine Cut, he still feels a little underutilized to me. I talked about it in my Paranoid character ask, but Deconstructed Damsel -> HEA should've had Skeptic instead of Paranoid (T v T)

I already talked about how I really like the Grey Brothers (Skeptic + Smitten) dynamic in Smitten's post, it's very fun to imagine these two as very different people who have very little in common... but who still care about each other.

But I also want to mention Skeptic + Hunted. I liked the idea of them being comfortable in each other's spaces even before the extended Den. And with them working together so well in the Den post-Pristine Cut, I think they would have a pretty close friendship.

Everest trying really hard to explain a dynamic they like, without resorting to just "they cool. me like them"-

For the record, I HC my Skeptic as aroace (or demiromantic asexual, I haven't fully decided yet). That will not stop my QPR-Skeptunist from completely taking over my brain <3

There is something very appealing about their dynamic - Opportunist is trying to get on Skeptic's "good side" and is interested in how intelligent Skeptic is (and how he could utilize that intelligence for his schemes), while Skeptic is curious about Opportunist and that rat brain of his (/aff), trying to see what's beneath those layers and layers of masks that Oppy likes to wear. In a way, they are both almost trying to outsmart one another, but from a place of curiosity... which could lead them to slowly enjoy each other's company :]

Also, this ship is really funny, and it's hilarious to imagine all the stupid scenarios they find themselves in- OH, and I wrote this on them like a month ago:

"I do genuinely feel like they would, not always but often, enjoy each other's company and yap - we all know that Skeptic is listening to Oppy's endless rambles to understand that gremlin mind of his, but I feel like he would come to like Oppy's weird plans and logic as a sort of 'new perspective' - and Oppy really appreciates someone acknowledging 'his genius,' and maybe in turn, he would also listen to Skeptic's esoteric rambles on stenography (it feels like they would be interesting, and depending on the topic, Oppy could actually be genuinely interested in Skeptic's yap in like a "oh, this would be helpful for my next scheme" kind of way)"

...I like this ship way too much for how little they interact in the game (which is "not at all")

Honorable mention almost goes to ParaSkep, courtesy of @/wintergrofyuri and @/itsonlypolite. It's so close to clicking with me (it feels like a dynamic I would like, I want to like them)... but it's just barely not it, I don't know what exactly, but something is missing / just not quite clicking with me (T v T)

I already mentioned like 3 headcanons in this post: the fact that my Skeptic is aroace (or demiromantic ace), the fact that my Skeptic knows shorthand (and writes exclusively in it), the fact that Skeptic is actually a yapper who likes to explain and go in-depth on the topics he finds interesting... /silly

Let's add another one! I like the idea of a linguistics nerd Skeptic, who is really into the etymology of words (I talked about it in this post where I talked about voice's hobbies!), sounds like the kind of thing Skeptic would be interested in.

Are any of these HCs based on anything from the game? Nope! These are all entirely based on ✨ vibes ✨.

To be honest, I don't know what counts as an "unpopular opinion" for Skeptic. I don't think I have any? At least none that I feel strongly about, most of my opinions about Skeptic are either directly based on the lines from the game OR are completely irrelevant silly HCs based on nothing but my own likes lol

I very rarely listen to just instrumental music (outside of lo-fi and a couple specific artists)... but none of the songs I listen to really fit Skeptic. And so my first instinct is... the original Objection! theme from Phoenix Wright-

Also Open the Game by Jiro. Not the kind of music I usually listen to, but a friend suggested it to me as "music that fits Skeptic" a while ago, and I agree with my friend, I think it really suits him in terms of musical style :]

...I'm going to be honest, I'm currently debating if I should give Skeptic a major re-design (because something about his current design just irks me). But if I had to pick an image for Skeptic that I made, it would be this-

...I don't think I shared this before (I probably will in a doodle dump of "voices in dresses" sometime in the future), but this is Skeptic in Alice in Wonderland's dress. A few friends and I joked too much about how awful of a time Skeptic would have in Wonderland, and so this was born!

favorite thing about them: how out of anyone, he feels the most like how an ordinary person would react to this situation. Prisoner in general just feels like a very natural progression of the Chapter 1 princess, and Skeptic just adds to that by voicing all of the player's doubts and questions in that chapter

least favorite thing about them: Echoing your complaint about the Leaving with the Head outcome, there was no reason to change Skeptic's lines then!! It was such a nice character moment for him, and really highlighted how, despite everything, he wants to trust in the princess. A lot of people already decided to leave the head there even with that dialogue before, there was no reason to change Skeptic's reaction!! (If anything, Hero should be the one certain she's just dead while Skeptic still doubts it; that'd make the choice between leaving it there or not all the more compelling, instead of ot feeling like the game is pushing you in one specific direction)

random headcanon: has never actually been in a relationship before (too demiaro to ever get close to it) and is very confused when others tell him he sounds divorced

unpopular opinion: we discussed it on discord before, but Skeptic really isn't as 'real world logic'-bound as people often see him. We get an ending where we survive through seemingly decades without ever starving with him, after all, while Paranoid (the more 'out there theories' one) makes us starve in the Nightmare-Wraith lead up. It's just that Skeptic needs some proof/hint that things aren't as clear-cut as they seem, and he'll immediately jump onto it to theorize all kinds of possibilities. He's the one who says "Maybe it was never the end of the world, after all. Just the end of His." when everything fades away and Shifty takes the vessel, after all. I can see him easily accepting the world is shaped by perspective once clear evidence is shown for it (aka. Skeptic would totally try to believe the Princess out of divinity in Apotheosis if we could get him there).

Curious what you'd say about Soap for the character ask game. You haven't really spoken about him as much as the others so I'm curious :O (id love to hear about every single character tho i wont lie to you but i have a feeling you'll get asked about those lol)

Honestly? There is unfortunately a reason. I lingered around fandom for a good few months before I got involved at all. I saw some behaviour from his fanbase that I didn't like and so I made the conscious choice that he's not a character I'd probably be creating much for. I love the art, happy to support creators, etc. Besides, there are so many delicious, delicious rarepairs to love and create for and plenty of gallant, productive, devoted Ghoapers.

He's quite compelling though, and I've got quite a few thoughts and headcanons, and I'm happy to write prompts with him. A few friends on Discord really love him and I like to create for them too, cause happy friends give me the fuzzies. So, you know, a story idea might grip me by the balls and I'll wack out a long form thing.

favorite thing about them

His journals.

Reading those finally gave me a connection with his character that I hadn't developed previously. But they really show how driven he is, how much he wants to be the best he can be, so he's not a burden, so he doesn't let anyone down. He's constantly striving to earn his place to the point that it kills him in the end.

I think he genuinely struggles with wanting to be liked (as part of 'earning his place'), and I think he is often too much for people. Ghost giving back as good as he gets is a comfortable relationship because the line for Ghost is way, way in the distance; Johnny doesn't have to worry like he does with 'normal' people. Neither of them is fuckin' normal.

Price giving him a chance would have been the first step towards the hero-style worship he has for him. "What? Me? Ye want... me? Aye, aye I will be the best fuckin' dog ye ever had, I will bite my own leg off for ye." Everything Soap does is to prove that Price didn't make a mistake. That he was a good investment. And Price, the sly fucker, knows it. He sees himself there.

least favorite thing about them

I wish they had given him a stronger accent and leaned more into that in the games. In fact, I wish that for all of them.

I also think that Soap has capacity to cause great harm without even realising it. Like, we get glimpses of it; he's nearly court-martialled for punching out a copper. In his single-minded pursuit of something, I reckon there could be a lot of collateral damage.

He lacks confidence but will cover it up by being an arsehole and doing arsehole things (such as smuggling a girl on base to impress The Guys). I say I like "least favourite"; I think this makes him compelling as a character. He's not all sunshine and rainbows. He's just as gritty, professional and flawed as the rest of 'em.

The anime has come and since I have my shipping goggles on I am going to notice so much. This part will be less spoilery for anime onlys (tho if you want to see me talk about why I ship them and why they’re complementary this is not a good part to start with haha). Edit: After completing this part I can confirm it’s fully anime-onlys friendly and spoiler-free! For manga veterans though there are still some fun tidbits to be found, some recontextualisations and new extra content.

Holy shit guys they’re mirroring each other in the mural and reaching out to each other AND looking towards each other?!!!! Their pose is so striking and like perfectly align?! Which means it was so intentional and the staff wanted to highlight them (for an aesthetic and/or narrative purpose I’m sure but it happened)! In the beginning of ep 1, when Marcille is rambling about where they could go to get food and what to grab, Chilchuck listens with a big smile & even closes his eyes as they walk. The implication is that he’s thinking about food, but man the scene hits different now that it’s voiced and I remember that indeed Chilchuck is closing his eyes to her voice and enjoying hearing her talk and ramble. I may be too far gone into the marchil pit

I feel like already they’ve come far from when Chilchuck dreaded being alone with Shuro and Marcille, waiting for the Toudens and Namari to arrive.

Ok this might actually be smth I’m gonna complain about but I feel like blushes have been drawn too vividly so far. Why does Chilchuck look like he’s confessing when he tells her she’s not a burden and he didn’t mean to make her feel that way. It almost comes across as "Woah she cares what I think?" 💀 The banter ensuing is of course also great

Ep 2 was an episode centered on them both that had the "Magic/Traps are my domain, don’t interfere!" parallel… And now with ep 3 we’re back to them being haters together. That’s her emotional support man

In ep 4, it doesn’t show well with a screenshot but when Senshi talks about his unmanned vegetable stand with a treasure chest, while in the manga Marcille and Chilchuck both think the same thing, "That’s why that treasure chest akways had money in it…", but in the anime instead they literally finish each other’s thought. Talk about being on the same wavelength.

Ep 5 is a marchil goldmine actually, it showcases perfectly how much of a package deal they are lol. Always sticking close to each other. Glancing at each other during meals… They literally nod at each other before they try a bite to steel themselves. They exchange a serious thoughtful glance when Laios talks about Falin truly being gone atm. They argue a bit but they go right back to sitting right next to each other after the meal <3 My god I can’t deal with them they are so…… "Hate this bitch, not my friend" 3 secs later "Heyy bestie!!" Also he’s worried he brought her mood down after mentioning Falin. Made a post about ep 5 collecting even more screenshots.

Episode 6 my hero my beloved… Again I made a post about the ep collecting all my screenshots here, and even a clip! But this IS the marchil crumbs masterpost thus I must collect the major ones here as well. First of all, fun staff drawings for the first screening!

I already posted a screenshot from the trailer of when Chil had his head on his knees sitting next to her, but after seeing episode 5 I think it’s a fun and interesting trend to notice that they sit next to each other way unnecessarily close wow. They continue to banter a ton, she continues to be very casual with touch, and they’re really cute! I love just how much Marcille blushed damn- It’s really cute too when you remember with the bicorn chapter that Chilchuck teases Marcille BECAUSE he enjoys getting a rise out of her, flustering her and seeing her reactions. I support the teasing -> laughing because her reaction is over the top all-Chilchuck economy. Also she apologizes for having let him go alone and be gone for so long by helping him with sewing his cowl… Cuties

She looked so happy when he opened up about his age!… And then seemed… Disappointed? When he "truly was just a kid". "So you really are a kid! I have a three-way tie, so I think I'll go with Kyojuro for this one!

Favorite thing about them:

Kyojuro is the kind of person who puts the needs and comfort of others above his own. Even as he lay dying, he never lets his pain show. Instead, he maintains a calm demeanor and offers words of encouragement to Tanjiro.

Another thing I love is how much he cares for his younger brother. When he speaks to Senjuro, he always kneels down to be eye level with him and gently squeezes his hand to comfort him. It's a small gesture, but it shows the kind of person he is.

Least favorite thing about them:

Although I cannot overstate how much I love the fact that they made him hearing impaired, as someone who gets anxious about loud noises his voice can be stressful at times.

Favorite line:

It's pretty standard at this point, but "Set your heart ablaze."

brOTP:

As much as I love that Kyojuro and Tengen are besties, I would like to see his relationship with Obanai explored more. We know that Shinjuro brought Obanai back to the Rengoku estate after rescuing him and I would like to think that he became an honorary member of the family. I think Kyojuro's outgoing personality helped Obanai to open up a bit. I would have loved to see some montages of the two of them growing up as adopted brothers.

OTP:

I think we can all agree that Akaza was down bad for our favorite fireboy. The bedroom eyes, licking his arm, using his first name? Akaza, you dirty dog.

Other than that, I like when people pair Kyojuro with an oc.

nOTP:

I don't understand the people who ship Kyojuro with Mitsuri. It just seems forced to me. Men and women can have a close friendship without it having romantic undertones. Also, since Kyojuro was friends with both Mitsuri and Obanai, I like to imagine that he played matchmaker.

Random headcanon:

Due to his father's alcoholism, I think Kyojuro would abstain from drinking outside of the occasional ceremonial sake.

Unpopular opinion:

A lot of Kyojuro's personality is a facade. He puts on a wide smile and takes on the role of the hero that he's supposed to be, the hero he promised his mother he would be. The only time we see this fake smile fall is when Enmu puts him under the sleep spell. Even in what is supposed to be the happiest dream he can imagine, his father still isn't proud of him.

Bonus side tangent: My cat, Freddie Mercury, hates his fictional man with a passion. Whenever Kyojuro is on screen, he will run from the room. He will fluff-up and flee whenever he sees any figures of him (and since this is my girlfriend's favorite character, we have a lot.)

We have a glass curio cabinet where most of our figures reside. The bottom shelf is where our kimetsu mini figurarts live, and we have nearly the whole set. Well, Freddie Mercury found the Kyojuro figure, lined himself up to make sure he was aiming right for it, and pressed his anus right against the glass.

favorite thing about them

it's that determination & kindness combo...i talked about this recently but i think the exact moment when i fell in love with this character was the sports festival todoroki fight where he uses his goddamn mouth to angle his shots because he's already broken all his fingers and couldn't snap them anymore. like...christ. this is what happens when you dial compassion & determination & resourcefulness all the way up to the point where it breaks the scale, but forget to put any self-worth in.

i love him. he fights so so hard all the time, and he does it because he cares so much. even about people who didn't ask for it. even about people who have hurt him very badly. it's insane (positive) to me that his defining moved-without-thinking saving someone moment was to save the person who literally that day told him he'd be better off dead. kindness!! determination!! beyond all fucking reason. we don't deserve this boy

least favorite thing about them:

hmmm...i do sometimes wish he were given more space to be a little imperfect. get a little mad. a little tired. but then i'm still very far behind in this show and look forward eagerly to the yellow scarf era of sadness for maybe providing this content. and it leaves a great space for hurt/comfort fic!

so i guess maybe it's that i get secondhand embarrassment very easily so he does ping this sometimes. i.e. i had to mute the scene where they're practicing hero interview skills lmao

favorite line

hrrrrr i cannot pick one. i love when he says that being a hero means meddling in things even when you aren't asked to, during the stain arc. love my little meddler who is so full of compassion and can't leave anything alone.

i am still thinking about the sports festival todoroki fight and i absolutely adore when he's like you haven't even put a scratch on me yet! bc all his wounds are...self-inflicted. he's fucking insane. imagine, your weird little classmate breaks all his bones at you and then brags about you haven't hurt him at all yet. i love that he gets kind of mean in this fight bc he is genuinely mad! that he has fought so so hard for this and todoroki is hamstringing himself! while also again being deeply motivated by compassion.

and last one i promise but i love when he says he wants to be strong enough so that no one will have to worry about him anymore. again the compassion of it all but also the...weird backdooring his way around having an actual sense of self-worth. just like yeah it does seem to upset people when i injure myself and put myself in deadly situations :/ guess i'd better cut that out...

hmmm...i think after he gets into UA he doesn't have time to keep up with his normal fanboy activities anymore, hero forums and online analyst youtubers etc, but every so often he'll stay up way way too late and have a deep dive into all the stuff he's missed. and it's kind of a weird bittersweet nostalgia thing, bc that was such an unhappy time but this was the one thing that could always make him light up, and now he's always weeks behind on stuff that used to be his whole world, but also he's seeing news and analysis about heroes who are now his teachers and sometimes his colleagues. taking these moments to once again look at the world he's belonging to more and more every day from the outside...and then the next morning everyone is like goddamn midoriya you look like death, please sleep!!!

hmmmmm i fairly often see him written as swearing a lot in his own head or too quietly for anyone to hear, and i just don't see it. i think he's too polite even when no one is watching. i think he says one fuck per quarter and it's deeply, deeply, impactful and also a tiny part of his brain still worries his mom is disappointed in him every time

i also don't think he has physical scars from his bullying era for numerous reasons but this is already way too long to ramble about all of those

it's determination again but this time the bitter flavour of determination. i think he makes such a fun character foil to mido partly because there's this anger there that we never really see izuku express. i love that he does wild shit like openly challenging the entire hero course in a corridor, both because provoking people helps his quirk so he's smartly laying the groundwork, but also because he's mad!! he's been overlooked and maligned and passed over and he's angry.

and i love that the bitterness seems to ease a bit once someone takes a chance on him and once he sees that everyone else, even these chosen hero students, are working incredibly hard also. and then you just get that incredible determination - i love all the lines in the joint training arc when he talks about how he's not going to stop until he catches up.

least favorite thing

give my boy screentime...please, please, please. on the one hand it's important to his character that he was excluded from this space but also i would have killed for him in class A earlier. the shinsou content drought oppressed Me Personally

it's just so...like how limitations can be really good for art, i think sometimes when you tell a story faster you tell it better. and this is just such a simple encapsulation of that thing both midoriya & shinsou go through where all they want is a place in this world that has decided they don't belong there. and whenever i think of it i see that little cherry blossom petal floating through the air...those couple of eps that establish shinsou as a character were just so fucking good

the aizawa mentorship and comparisons between young aizawa and shinsou is everything to me. also him with class A in general bc it's so cute to me how much they all immediately like him and want him to be their friend. it's what he deserves!!

hmmmm i don't know if i have one? shinsou enjoyers produce so many excellent varied shinsous. i do read him i think as a little more serious/less jokey and relaxed than a lot of fanon shinsous, but that's partly bc many of those i think were produced before joint training arc was a thing, and also it's contextual - in an environment where he feels accepted and has chilled out a bit i could see him as an absolute menace

Honestly a lot of the relationships in this show are great in theory but a little thin in actual execution, but I enjoy reading fanfics where Lena is good friends with Kelly, Nia, and/or iconic queen Jess the secretary. [I wish I could give a brotp for Kara but honestly I think most of her relationships suffer greatly from how they write her character.]

top 3 favorite episodes/chapters/scenes/games in series: My favorite is definitely 4.16 "The House of L." Bonus points for epic title also, like, that's an iconic pun right there. I look fondly on 4.11 "Blood Memory" as well which I think is probably Nia's strongest outing on the show and also is an episode that actually bothers to do something interesting with the Danvers sisters relationship. And in terms of episodes that are consistently entertaining I do really enjoy a significant chunk of 5.13 "It's a Super Life" although it's tainted by the terrible ending (as well as the foreknowledge of what comes after). [You might be thinking: what about XYZ Season 2 episode? To which I sadly must respond: Mon-El.]

top 3 other things u think ppl who like this thing should watch/read/play: I'm going to refrain from recommending other Arrowverse shows because I think that's too easy. But I do think my recommendations would depend on what you liked or didn't like about the show? If you like light-hearted superhero shenanigans you should watch DC Super Hero Girls (2019-2021). If you were frustrated by the show's surface-level pop feminism then you should watch Revolutionary Girl Utena (1997). If Lena Luthor's character type fascinates you then you should watch Severance (2022-ongoing). Favorite thing about her:

There's a lot I like about Tear. She's the sort of serious, knightly figure (with a secret emotional side) that I often gravitate towards. I think the game does a good job positioning her between the hero party and the villain party -- primarily through her relationship with Van, but also through her connections to Legretta and Mohs, and even Yulia and the Score that everyone's fighting over. Early in the game, she's very much on her own side, not really aligning herself with Luke until after Akzeriuth. But I'd say my favorite thing is her character design. I think she's just beautiful, the contrast of the ashy brown hair (and so long and sleek) with her piercing blue eyes. I really like that her costume is predominantly brown -- a color that often feels underused in character design -- and her dress variously suggests a sorceress' gown, a knightly tabard, maybe even a nun's habit. (And of course a cello.) You can see at a glance that she's a serious, mature character, but she also loves beauty, which we initially see through her music.

Least favorite thing about her:

I know there's some debate in the fandom over this, but I feel like her English voice actor didn't get the best direction. Tonally, I think the voice is a good fit for her, and it makes sense for Tear's performance to be downplayed and subtle. But I feel like she sometimes sounds a little too lifeless -- maybe if they'd voiced the skits, where Tear gets her more funny and emotional moments, the performance would feel more rounded.

Favorite line:

Having just said that, I think there are some moments where her VA does bring it. Her first scene at Fabre Manor, when she shouts that she's going to kill Van, that's a great moment. I also think the scene in Daath's library before the Tower of Rem, where she tells Luke that she'll hate him if he becomes a hero, the VA does a good job of making her sound both stern and deeply shaken. Her "I love you" is also well done, emotional without sounding sappy or forced. I could pick any of those, but I'm going to go with her screaming "Luke! Stop!" at the Tower of Rem. I love that we've had this build up of her refusing to interfere with his choice, being logical, being his composed, mature mentor -- and then at the crucial moment, she can't do it. She breaks down and tries to stop him because even for her, her heart is stronger than any number of logical arguments.

brOTP:

I've never really considered this. I've always assumed (and the game shows) that she's really close to Natalia and Anise, and I think she always would be. If asked who her best friend was, she'd probably say Natalia. They have a good, contrasting chemistry, Natalia wearing her heart on her sleeve, being very forceful and even naive at times, while Tear probably needs a more upbeat person to bring her out of her shell; despite that, they still have a lot in common, fighting alongside each other, both of them being motivated by a strong sense of service and altruism. But thinking outside the box, it's sad that we never really see her interact one on one with, say, Jade. What's their dynamic like, when none of the other party members are around? I also think it would be really fun if, after the game, she became close to Peony through their shared interest in rappigs. She would shake her head at his eccentricities and (unsuccessfully) try to reel him in from time to time. But I would guess that out of anyone in the game, Tear would be the most enthusiastic about his amazing pets. I'd love to see them going to a rappig show or something together, or maybe picking a new rappig for the imperial pigpen Peony's bedroom.

OTP:

I wouldn't say I have an OTP for her. I like LukeTear -- I know not every Abyss fan enjoys it, but I think it's a compelling, character-based slow burn. They seem drawn together because of each others' personalities, not just circumstances; they operate as friends as well as a romantic couple; they seem to bring out each others' good traits. And I've always liked how Abyss takes the idea of the stern, professional soldier protecting the softer, untested noble, but flips the typical genders. And of course Luke grows until he's strong enough to protect her in turn. But while I like it, LukeTear doesn't rise to the level of an OTP for me.

nOTP:

Nothing too fancy for this one, not her immediate family or anything. Thinking over the fandom, it's a bit surprising there isn't more variety when it comes to shipping her.

Random headcanon:

I don't have one. Though in turning the question over, I realized I'd love to know what was going through her head when she was standing with Luke in her garden and he asked for a knife. She's surprised by what he does, so what was she expecting? That could be an interesting character moment to explore.

Unpopular opinion:

As much as I like her costume, I think it looks kind of bad when animated. It's so stiff, all these weird flaps and angles sticking out. It looks great when she's standing still, awkward as all get out as soon as she goes faster than a walk.

"Let Her Feel the Rain" by Tara MacLean. It's more about the mood than the lyrics. (Though some of them do feel Tear-ish -- they say when she cries her teardrops turn to ice; you will kneel before her at her altar imageries.) "Let Her Feel the Rain" made me think of Tear, and ever since then it always has.

I'm gonna go with Frodo because I love him and I've wanted to do this with him for ages.

Character ask: Frodo Baggins (The Lord of the Rings)

Favorite thing about them: The way he, much like Beth, highlights the value of people that are easy to overlook or dismiss. He doesn't win by fighting or force like his companions do- no, he wins by being kind above all else, even to people who arguably don't deserve it, such as Gollum and Saruman. He's not able to carry the burden alone- he needs help, and everyone tries to help him as best they can, from Gandalf to Aragorn to especially Sam. He doesn't expect that he'll be able to complete or survive the quest, but he tries anyway. He tries so hard, and doesn't let his fear stop him from doing what he needs to do. And while he may have succumbed to the Ring at the end, no one blames him for it, except arguably himself. He is flawed, human (for lack of a better term) loving, and always tries to do what's right. We need more heroes like him, in my opinion.

Least favorite thing about them: He sees a bit too much of himself in Gollum, which blinds him to the possibility that Gollum might not have his best interests at heart. This, along with the Ring's increasing grip on him, is most likely what helps Gollum manipulate him into turning on Sam and sending him away (although this is thankfully just in the movies, and Frodo does apologize as soon as he can).

Unpopular opinion: I don't think he and Sam are secretly in love with each other. I can definitely understand why people would have that impression, especially on Sam's side, but I never really got that vibe from Frodo himself. (Although that might just be me wanting him for myself.)

I also don't think movie Frodo is that bad. Sure, I don't like how toned down he is from the book, and I especially don't like the scene where he sends Sam away, but the takeover of the Ring is an internal process, not external, so that's going to be hard to show on screen. And it's not like he's melancholic the whole way through- at the start of the first movie, he's happy, playful, and even a bit mischievous. And no matter how weird the script may get at times, Elijah Wood does an amazing job with what he's given.

Where do I even begin with this bird? He is our voice of reason amidst the chaos and horror, our right-hand man in all the trials and tribulations, our conscience in all the decisions. Our loyal best friend who is there with us since the beginning-

There is something very beautiful about how encouraging, enthusiastic, and generally lovely Hero is, how he wants to do "the right thing", whatever "the right thing" is… but he doesn’t know what or how he should do it. He voices his opinion throughout the game, often disagrees with you and other voices, but he never insists on it, and in so many instances (like the Nightmare route, when he asks Paranoid to tell them who to trust), he reads to me as self-doubting, as someone who doesn't believe in himself and his own decisions and instead chooses to put his trust into the Long Quiet, into you. It feels very human… Though perhaps I'm projecting because I'm a very self-doubting, indecisive person myself.

…which makes it all the more triumphant and sweeter when in the final fight with the Shifting Mound, if you insist on trying to fight her on your own, Hero, for the first and only time in the game, defies you:

''I can do this out here on my own.'' "You can't, and lucky for you, I'm not going to let you try."

For the first time, Hero knows what the right thing is, he knows what he needs to do to help you against the Shifting Mound. And so even if you as the Long Quiet don't realize it yet… he does.

I love the fact that we actually get to see him grow. He chooses to go directly against your decision... precisely because he is your right-hand man, your best friend, he wants you to succeed, and he wants to help. And for the first time, he confidently goes with his decision because he knows what to do... and even that one decision is made to help you.

Can you tell I'm very normal about Hero? I love Hero. Hero my beloved-

Serious answer: I've loved their dynamic from the very beginning - one of my first ever fanart pieces was a storyboard where Paranoid teaches the survival mantra to Hero. It was, and still is, one of my favorite moments in the entire game... I just never realized that people shipped voices together and that it was allowed. Well, thanks to @/neverpathia and his random fic from like 3 months ago, I realized that their dynamic works very well as a platonic-romantic relationship... and so here I am, a QPR-ParaHero shipper after all of that-

To not drag this point for too long, I just really like how the relationship between Hero and Paranoid plays out whenever these two are together. There's a certain degree of... comfort, I suppose, between them, like they've known each other for years and years before. It's weird to put it like that since they're all disembodied voices that are part of the same God, but the way their interactions are written just feels personal. Oh, I wish I had words to actually describe my thought process, but I don't 😭

...Though their lighthearted banter and bickering throughout multiple routes definitely help me like the ship even more. I'm a big sicker for friendly banter.

18. If he’d lived, how do you think he’d go on with his life?

In some ways, that probably depends upon Potter doesn’t it? If Harry felt that everyone needed to know the truth about his actions or no, and if they needed to know ASAP or if there’d be some kind of sealed record for a while. Given that the ending is supposed to be happy and somehow defeating Voldemort nearly instantaneously got rid of all the sympathetic baddies and death eaters that had seized the entire government, there’d be no need to have a skilled double agent to go back into the cold. This of course is nonsense, but I guess Kingsley had some kind of thing going on or something I can’t remember.

So he really would be known as something of a war hero, wouldn’t he? Being a bitch to a student or two pales in comparison to helping defeating the big baddie and helping free the world from heavy-handed tyranny. There’d be no greater expert on the dark arts and defeating them, so I think he might end up as some kind of expert in them. The best would be a role where he has time to do his studies and inventions but also having some time to do practical things.

The curse is gone after voldie’s death so he could be the Defense of Dark Arts professor! Especially if he can get some wizard teaching assistant to do the classes for the early years who are just too baby for him.

I think he’s really bad with them, I always thought that would’ve been his worse class the taking care of magicial creatures class, because he doesn’t exactly have the background to realize you need to be nice and patient with some things. ⚧️ GENDER HEADCANON: Angeal is hard to get a read on, for me, since he's another of those characters who exists in a position that he seems to believe requires a hypermasculine presentation. I read him as cis, but I can see just about anything for him.

💕 A SHIP: Unrequited Angeal/Sephiroth is really the only ship I have for Angeal—I genuinely believe he's utterly in love with Sephiroth, and he never ever said a word about it to anyone.

🖇️ A BROTP: Angeal+Lazard is probably my biggest one, only because the mental image of both of them trying desperately to keep Genesis and Seph in line is so clear in my head it might as well be made of crystal.

🚫 A NOTP: Don't garotte me for this, but honestly Gengeal? I don't like the way he talks to or about Genesis; I've heard people say that they're like a divorced couple, but if anything they read to me as siblings desperate to get out of each other's orbit and utterly unable to escape their shared history no matter how they try. (Given that they seem to both have Gillian's mtDNA based on explanations in-canon, and we know that they can be considered siblings based on Weiss using his connection to Genesis as proof that he's also Angeal's brother in DFFOO, I feel like that's a fairly accurate read.)

💭 A RANDOM HEADCANON: Angeal didn't actually join SOLDIER at the same time as Genesis, and not only because he didn't particularly want to—Angeal is over a year younger than Genesis, and was just too young to enlist when Genny left Banora. It was almost a year before Angeal was able to follow him to Midgar, by which point Genesis had already formed a fairly solid relationship with Sephiroth, and Angeal was more than a little put-out by the idea that his position as Genesis' only friend had been taken by this weird kid with weird hair and weird eyes that Genesis kept clipping photos of from the newspaper. When he got to know Seph, though, he changed his tune pretty dramatically—and fell for him almost as hard as Genesis. This is one of the reasons that he inserts himself between them at every opportunity, not only because he doesn't think they're good for each other, but because he doesn't think that anyone is good enough for Sephiroth, not even himself. And if he isn't good enough to be Sephiroth's one and only, then Genesis (impulsive, arrogant, troublemaker Genesis, who spent days exploring a monster-infested cave system as a boy without a thought of the danger he courted in doing so, who already had everything he ever needed or wanted and still leveraged his obsession over a hero he hadn't met into an invention that garnered recognition in a way that Angeal never could) definitely wasn't. This is how the whole relationship fell apart.

🗣️GENERAL OPINION: I've said it before, and I'll say it again: the saddest thing about Angeal is that he's the only one who couldn't bear to live with himself. I'm not a huge fan of the character as a person, but he's fantastically executed as a character. His story is legitimately one of the most heartbreaking in the series—He had a whole host of people who loved him so deeply as to be fathomless, and it didn't matter. His story is a tragedy not because of how he was made or how he died, but because of why things turned out the way they did. So much of the suffering he went through was self-imposed, and that's the saddest part of all.

I don't think I can accurately name my top 3 characters. Obviously Sky and Bloom, but they flip flop in order of whom I love more, and then the third spot is such a hard one! I really love everyoe except Farah lol. If I can name a couple: Riven, Stella, Terra, Saul, Grey, Sebastian, Andreas, Rosalind.... 🙈

My favorite sentences: Sky has multiple ones in my book, but these two take the cake FOREVER:

"I am a fixer. What'd you expect? I'm the son of a war hero, raised in Alfea. I've heard more stories about the great Andreas than I can count. It's almost like he's still alive. But he's not. He's an ideal. Do you have any idea how hard it is to live up to? Even Silva, it's like he's… It's like he's playing some role out of a sense of duty, when all I really want… I'm a fixer 'cause… I have to be. 'Cause I'm supposed to be. Because... When I fix others, I don't have to think about how fucking broken I am."

AND

"So, you wrote me a letter? You were gonna walk out of my life forever, so you wrote me a fucking letter." "I thought if I told you in person-" "That I'd try to stop you? You were right. Don't you dare walk through that thing, Bloom. There has to be another way to close it. - I don't think you wanna try. I think you've been looking for a way out."

I'll simply never EVER be over this interaction. Bloom's lines in the last one are also all bangers, but they break my heart too much to say they're my favorites. Sky's are righteous and angry, Bloom's are just SOOOO depressing, I can't think about it too much.

About the movies... I think I'd love to see estranged Skloom, would be a fun twist. I knooow they're lovey dovery af, but I love when they get nasty and they DO in canon, Bloom is constantly lying to this man and Sky is constantly angry lol. So I think any sort of romance where the two leads are ANNOYED at each other, like been there done that.

About the second ask! If you're to include any other side characters, I'd looove for some Andreas, Saul, Rosalind, Beatrix, Mike/Vanessa, Stella, Riven. Skloom + the people who are in their corner is my weakness. Does Rosalind like them? We know she sees Sky as a fuck up, but she does fish his ass for the banquet! What about Andreas? Does he agree that Sky landed on his feet with Bloom? Is he embarrassed of it, does he think his son is a wimp? Was he secretly impressed when Sky mouthed out Prince Arthur? Saul + Any Bloom interaction, she's the cause of so many of his white hairs, but she comes through!! for him!!! Skella as a platonic dynamic has my whole heart, same as brotp Skyriv and omg Beatrix thrown into this chaos...

What I don't want though, is for characters to be shoehorned in. If you wanna focus in only 1 of the couples I listed, that's perfectly fine for me, or just 1 brotp... I don't want it to become that meme like "why is Terra suddenly the bus driver" 😂

Oriana —

Favorite thing about them: I'm going to be incredibly non-specific and say that her growth as a character was my favorite part of playing her. She started out as this uptight, dutiful monk who was scared to show her own face too much for fear of making people mildly uncomfortable (and honestly to avoid invasive questions) to someone who was finally getting comfortable with who they were was such a blast. I love her newly-acquired confidence and the dynamic it brings to her post-campaign. She's far from perfect, and never will be, but she's maturing and making a new purpose for herself other than being someone's errand girl.

Least favorite thing about them: She is the worst pessimist in the world and sometimes her logic is so quick to jump to the worst conclusions that she literally puts her foot in her mouth. And it hurts for me to write that every single time due to secondhand embarrassment but I have to commit.

Favorite line: "She loved you! She still loves you!" at the Prince during the final fight while she's trying to distract him (or something like that). Or Ori's first jab at Damak "Maybe you would see more of it if you stepped out of the shadows" since it still makes me chuckle.

brOTP: Even though the Ori/Damak ship didn't sail, I still think they probably stay pretty close and end up working together on jobs in the future. They absolutely still push each other's buttons, but that's just how they are and they don't question it.

OTP: I am so mad at myself retroactively for not giving into the OriRanna feels by the conclusion of the campaign but I do not regret bringing it up afterwards and getting to enjoy it now at least.

nOTP: Ori and Cobalt are forever divorced and they barely know each other, this is just canon.

Random Headcanon: Ori has a hard time accepting the fact that Sharaea is basically keeping her distance after the Prince's defeat. In part because she does feel that connection still and worries that Sharaea is hurting, and partially because it is such a strange sensation to her to be without the dreams for so long after such a major revelation. It takes her a long time to get used to it, but she still wishes that there was more she could do.

Unpopular Opinion: I don't know if it's an unpopular opinion among our little group, but I never had intentions of making Oriana some kind of fated hero. I never had thoughts of making her tied to a major NPC or giving her any kind of serious destiny, I just wanted to play a radiant energy bomb with the aasimar/monk combo because I thought it would be funny once I pitched the idea to Sam and he told me about Damak who was basically her foil. But I do adore how her story developed and how well it ended up narratively.

Song I associate with them: So many... "Like the Dawn" by The Oh Hellos, "Warrior" by AURORA, and "Drumming Song" by Florence + The Machine to name a few.

Favorite picture of them: I like a lot but honestly one of my favs is the one I made of Chibs trying to hit on her, partly because it's Chibs and partly because I did really like how Ori's outfit came out in this one.

Mela —

Favorite thing about them: Literally the most wholesome member of the group. Not a bad bone or crystal in her body. I am so sorry for all that we put her though.

Least favorite thing about them: Only that I didn't get enough time to learn more about her and her backstory. Sigh.

Favorite line: "Real neighbors. Real family. Not just people that make you feel like you can pretend it doesn't exist."

brOTP: Mela and Halion. Druid buddies that deserve the world.

OTP: Mela is an independent Genasi who don't need no one... though I could be swayed about a certain fae...

nOTP: Literally anyone who would try to be mean to her in a relationship will meet a swift end by my hand.

Random Headcanon: 100% think that Mela's magic is flavored to look like the crystals on her body. If she wildshapes and doesn't specifically want to look a certain way, the animal she changes into will have things like crystal horns/claws, the flame sword she summons has the appearance of a crystal blade, etc.

Unpopular Opinion: I do wish she had gotten a chance to use wild shape more. I think Mela being a cute little critter sneaking around would have been amazing.

Vaela —

Favorite thing about them: Drinking game QUEEN. Also just the fact that she doesn't take any shit while still having a lot of heart and empathy to those who earn it. Something about that balance between the two just made her all the more lovable.

Least favorite thing about them: she can out-drink my high constituion monk I do think I missed out on really getting to know her during the campaign, and I regret that a lot.

Favorite line: Not a specific line but I think back to Vaela's talks with Erosen when he was ready and willing to be her stand-in dad before Vaela was ready to reach back out to her family and i can't help but smile.

brOTP: Vaela, Riven, and Mela is the real brot3 and nothing can change my mine

OTP: I mean... I definitely have a certain paladin that turns a lovely shade of pink when someone talks about her because she sure is pretty and really cool to boot~

nOTP: Zaresh and his memory is not allowed to ever hurt Vaela again. If Damak didn't do it, Ori would have definitely put him out of his misery.

Random Headcanon: Very little thing, but I could see her gathering small, light trinkets that remind her of her friends and tie them to her bow, possibly for good luck, and possibly as a way to to tell which direction the wind is blowing when she's aiming.

Unpopular Opinion: I still think it would have been cool for her to pull an Erosen and punch Zaresh in the face. Just once.

Riven —

Favorite thing about them: Riven's sassiness and perfect comedic timing always leaves me in stitches. She really felt like the heart of the party in that way.

Least favorite thing about them: This is the hardest thing and most of my "least favorite" things are mostly the things Oriana keeps fretting about when she thinks about Riven being in such a high position so I'm gonna go with not much at this time to be honest.

Favorite line: Not a line again, but specifically the scene between Ori and Riven where Riv dressed her up while Ori reassured her that she didn't think any less of Riven after they all found out about her half-drow heritage. That always felt like a major point in their friendship and I hold onto it fondly.

brOTP: I wanna say Riven and Halion just because I think their friendship was so neat, and it hurts a bit when I think about their falling out post-campaign. But there's also Riv and Damak's sibling-ish dynamic that I love a lot, too.

OTP: As much as he pushes Ori's nerves, I do think Riv and Delethil are on the same wavelength as each other and fit very well together, even with Eravin in the mix.

Random Headcanon: On the occasions where Oriana comes up to Aerenth on business (either with Ranna for her research or at the request of various Tyados officials who think she's got some kind of in with them because she's friends with Riven), Ori always makes a point to find Riven and any of the other girls that might be there with them after all the formalities are done and run off into the woods to find a clearing to just hang out in like they did before.

Unpopular Opinion: As much as I understand the reason why she and Del made the choice to execute Vasion, I still disagree that it was the best decision.
