Branch helped Floyd shuffle into his room, pangs of pain and worry squeezing his heart at how mentally exhausted and... *grey* his brother looked.

"Here. Let's get you into bed." His voice was soft, patient as he took Floyd by the waist to pull back his covers. They had been smoothly tucked in that same morning, but now with a practiced hand, Branch pulled them down and slowly helped Floyd sit.

"Take it slow. I know you wanna lie down but if you do it too fast it might make you hurt worse. We'll get there together, okay?" Branch practically whispered, pausing to fluff Floyd's pillow up before helping him lean back.

His older, and perhaps closest brother squeezed his hands while letting out a shaky breath, tears welling and pouring down his eyes. "I'm sorry, Branch. I don't know what *happened* today... we were having such a good day and there I went ruining it with my stupid jokes and..."

"No, no Floyd, hey..." Branch raised a hand to gently wipe the tears away, taking extra care not to cause any pain to the troll. "We know it's not gonna be all... cupcakes and rainbows, okay? Not all the time. No matter how much you want it to be or will try to make it seem. But that's what we're here for, okay? We love you and are here with you no matter what."

That just made Floyd cry harder. He leaned into the hand, bringing up one of his own to cover with it. Dissolving into soft 'I love yous' and exhausted 'Thank yous.'

Branch leaned down, gathering up his brother into his arms. "Come on. I'll sleep with you, okay? Just like you used to do for me. I'll even hum your favorite lullabies," he spoke, in a hushed voice. Holding Floyd as close as he could.

His brother didn't even respond; already drifting off and on the way into a much needed healing sleep.

"I love you, Floyd. So much."

Team X starting to talk about the best sexual exeprience they've had (it was one of those in between moments where they're waiting for the announcement of the next games) they don't know they even got to that conversation but talking about random things feels like they're just friends hanging out and it helps with the fears and anticipation. "Youngil" turns to Gihun and flirtingly asks about Gihun's sex life and after much coaxing by the others, he relates that there is someone. He met them some time ago, a cop who's younger than him. He was looking for his brother who was connected to the games and they were helping Gihun out with taking the games down. "Youngil" ALREADY knows who Gihun's talking about and he already has that "oh shit" expression on his face. THEN Gihun just starts talking about how good the younger man is in bed, how much stamina he has, like talks about the dude wanting to have sex like all the time. The worst part is Gihun was trying so hard to keep it PG but even then it was still TMI for an older brother. Gihun talks about how the young dude's cock never seems to stop being hard and "Youngil" wants to dig a hole for himelf. And lol when Gihun talks about how the guy was strong and sweet and lovely, and he might be falling for the guy, "Youngil" wants to die because what the hell was he supposed to do now. His kidney isn't the only thing he's little brother's gonna have.

after that talk, gihun is more open and sometimes just randomly starts talking abt his hot cop situationship (they're not boyfriends quite yet!) and "youngil" is trying not to strangle himself with the bed sheets 😖 junhee finds them cute, daeho is a bit perturb to hear bc he respects gihun, and jungbae is proud his bestie is getting laid.

and like u said, gihun doesn't get into details or particularly graphic, but the people around kinda get the gist of the situation. the situation being that gihun is a bottom and this younger guy is laying into him every night, several rounds a night....

the continuous focus on birds and birdsong in monstrous regiment is one of my fave bits just because we know the only reason polly has all that background knowledge is bc of paul. and even when she has that moment of not wanting to admit that she wants to get paul back partially for selfish reasons she was still the person in his life that paid attention enough to remember everything he loved/knew about birds lol. he's not really haunting the narrative he's just kind of chilling back there but ANYWAY lol polly perks could do antigone

the fact that it's specifically stated that faulkner lied when he said no one else knew about the house is so funny to me because

a) im used to things specifically mentioned in writing coming back and the idea of carpenter being like "well i know a place we can crash at" and her and hayward walking into the cabin and seeing faulkner n rane just standing there is unquestionably hilarious but also

b) it means that faulkner had to have told her about his past at some point and that means that when he asked to be her brother she had fully acknowledged the fact that faulkner killed one of his brothers in a traumatic misunderstanding he's reconstructed in his mind as a good thing As Well As the fact that her last brother died in an act of religious self-sacrifice, and said yes. with her little caveat. just mentally grabbing him by the collar like "listen. i don't want you to kill yourself for your god. and i hope you don't want to kill me for your god. and if either happens i am going to kick your ass in hell when both of us get there"
