a prisoner of the aesthetic am I.  one who’s been known to erase sudoku numbers cause I couldn’t bare the nine’s loop too squashed or the hook of the ‘two’ flat and rangy.  

this need for a certain threshold of visual satisfaction often seeps into the more durable facets of my life.  accessorizing my cameras is almost as much fun as using them.  accessorizing my bikes is more fun than using them.  

I’m a little hard on myself.  the evergreen Norco Torrent, still a name more fit for a Taco Bell revenge than an old man mountain bike, sees quite a bit of use on the, now packed, neighborhood bike loop - gravely bits and all.  

an easy auto-con then to sway myself towards the Teravail tires, slightly less knobby than the “Throbbing Minions” or some such juvenile nonsense the bike came so equipped... and the clincher, sidewalls in tan livery.  simply made for the creme chromoly and a scarcely used Brooks saddle I had living in the closet.

the boy, Connor, another slave to his well honed inner aesthetic, says the Brooks saddle on a mountain bike is beyond gauche.  I say, lighten up son... for once you know the rules it’s well time we break them.
