Buffalo Niagara – A Strong Stop on the Smalljaw Syndicate
A few years ago, Mike Schultz of Schultz Outfittersstarted an Instagram hashtag – #smalljawsyndicate. It was and continues to be a great branding and marketing tool that generates a strong appeal for smallmouth bass. Let’s face it – in the fly fishing world, for generations, trout have reigned supreme as the target game species for fly…

Places In Buffalo To Hike
One of the activities fun and exciting to do when in Buffalo is hiking. Although the sport is not for everyone, especially those who are not physically fit, hiking is an activity worth to try. Worry not as much for first-time hikers as there are hiking trails in and near the city best for first-time hikers to pursue. Hiking is a great activity to do with your family and friends, if you do not know yet where to go to in Buffalo to hike, you can consider the hiking destinations below:
Tifft Nature Preserve
This is a perfect trail to hike by almost everyone, newbie or veteran hikers. It offers hikers with 5 miles of easy trails through forest and marsh. And it is also well known for their bird watching. It is located at 1200 Fuhrmann Boulevard, Buffalo, NY 14203, United States.
Tumblr media
Amherst State Park
Park is located at 390 Mill St, Buffalo, NY 14221, United States. This is a perfect place to hike and jog too. It offers guided nature walks as well to those who want to experience a beautiful and satisfying beauty of nature.
Hiking is a fun activity to do and at the same time can challenge your capabilities, abilities, and strength. On the other hand, if you open a business in Buffalo, it is highly recommended that you take part in the Buffalo Business Initiative. The association is providing assistance to local companies such as Brookdog Fishing Company to ensure they find success in the industry they are part of. But, you should not be too confident as not all local companies receive their support. They are very careful choosing which amongst the companies to support especially that they are also after the community’s welfare.

14 Ways to Get on the Water
When the sun is shining and the temperatures are high, there’s no place you’ll rather be than feeling the gentle breeze along Buffalo’s revitalized waterfront. Following an ambitious makeover, the result of hundreds of millions of dollars in new investment, some of Buffalo’s best attractions and events are situated on the shores of Lake Erie, the Buffalo River and beyond. In addition to all of the fun you’ll have on land, here are a dozen ways to get on the water:
1. Kayaking There are now several different spots to rent kayaks – one of the best ways to see Buffalo from the water. At Canalside, BFLO Harbor Kayak returns for another season while further up the Buffalo River, Elevator Alley Kayak, Silo City Paddling Co., Buffalo River Canoe & Kayak and Buffalo RiverWorks operate in the shadow of one of the largest collection of grain elevators in the world. Outer Harbor Buffalo offers rentals launching from the beach at Wilkeson Pointe, while Paths Peaks & Paddles launches in Ellicott Creek and Blue Water Marina rents from the shoreline of Grand Island.
2. Stand Up Paddleboard & SUP Yoga Test your balance as you coast down the Buffalo River with a stand up paddleboard session from BFLO Harbor Kayak and Buffalo RiverWorks. Venture out into more open waters and feel the breeze roll in from Lake Erie with paddleboard rentals available from Buffalo Paddleboard Co. at Gallagher Beach. And for all you yogis looking for a challenge, Canalside offers weekly stand up paddleboard yoga classes in the replica canal.
3. Water Bikes & Paddleboats Another novel way to cruise the city’s waterways is on water bikes, which are available for rent at Canalside from the Water Bikes of Buffalo (the same folks behind the famous Ice Bikes). Up in Tonawanda, at the beautiful Gateway Harbor, water bikes are also available for rental from Water Bike & Boat Adventures. For the youngsters, pedal along on a paddleboat in Canalside’s historically aligned canals.

4. Buffalo River History Tour Buffalo’s efforts to preserve and restore its grain silos have received international praise. This summer, see them first-hand on a Buffalo River History Tour, offering 90-minute river tours and 2-hour river/land hybrid tours that offer a partial walking tour of Silo City and into the Perot Family Malting Plant grain elevator.
5. Harbor Queen Cocktail Cruises Unlike the traditional tours offered by Buffalo River History Tours, these Cocktail Cruises allow you to relax with a refreshing cocktail while cruising the Buffalo River and Lake Erie. Enjoy live local music and soak up the atmosphere aboard this two-hour cruise. While these cruises do not include a narrated tour, a knowledgable guide is onboard to answer any questions you may have.
6. Spirit of Buffalo The Spirit of Buffalo schooner offers public tours that set sail into Lake Erie along with several special events like “Wine in the Wind” Wednesdays, Tuesday night Craft Beer Cruises, Dinner & A Sail events with Pearl Street Grill & Brewery, and pirate-themed adventures for the kiddos.

7. Buffalo CycleBoats & Buffalo Pedal Tours Buffalo has never seen anything like the Buffalo CycleBoats & Buffalo Pedal Tours before. The newest waterfront attraction, having launched with Buffalo CycleBoats last summer, this floating pub/group bicycle allows its 15-passengers to pedal along as they take in all the sites on the waterfront with a cold beer (BYOB). The boats are available both for individual bookings and group tours.
8. Queen City Bike Ferry The Queen City Bike Ferry shuttles cyclists from Canalside to a series of bike trails along Buffalo’s Outer Harbor and back. In case you didn’t bring your own bike, bicycle rentals are now offered daily at Canalside and through the Reddy Bikeshare program. Rent a bike, hop on a ferry, then ride several miles along our lakefront on the Outer Harbor!
9. Miss Buffalo An old favorite – the Miss Buffalo – offers public cruises, party cruises and private outings from its anchoring spot near the Erie Basin Marina. When you’re aboard you’ll enjoy spectacular views of the Buffalo skyline and the famous sunsets over the waters of Lake Erie.

10. Moondance Cat Celebrating nearly 40 years this year, the Moondance Catamaran can fit up to 75 passengers and equipped with tons of lunging space (pro tip: relax on the netting as the waters zip by below you), a fully stocked bar and, of course, wonderful vantage points of Buffalo and the expanse of Lake Erie.
11. Grand Lady Cruises With a home docked at Buffalo RiverWorks, Grand Lady Cruises is Buffalo’s only dedicated dinner cruise vessel. Make a reservation, enjoy a meal prepared right onboard and then head up to the veranda for drinks, live music and one of the best sunsets around.
12. Sailing Climb aboard sailor! Whether you’re looking to enjoy the wind in your hair or plan the perfect date night, make sure to book your outing through Make Sail Time. And if you’re looking to learn the ropes yourself, Seven Seas Sailing School will make you a seasoned sea dog in no time.
13. Buffalo Tiki Tours You’ve probably seen this thing out on the waterways and thought, “what the heck is that?” Take a relaxing tour down the Buffalo River Hawaiian-style on a floating tiki hut with you and five of your friends! The Buffalo Tiki Tour is available for sunset cruises, bachelorette and bachelor cruises, weddings (yes they have a minister) and group outings.
14. Fishing The waters surrounding Buffalo, in terms of fishing, are some of the richest you’ll find. Loaded with smallmouth bass, steelhead, trout and carp, chartering a fishing tour through companies like Brookdog Fishing Co. offer excitement for everyone from the seasoned angler to hobby fishers.

Happy Mothers Day - Show Some Love to the Moms in Your Life
Happy Mothers Day – Show Some Love to the Moms in Your Life
Happy Mothers Day, Mom!
Mothers Day – I’m usually not a fan of contrived holidays but I am a fan of celebrating this one. If it wasn’t for my mother and my beautiful wife I wouldn’t be where I am today – a happy father doing what I love. My only hope is that reading this take the opportunity to reflect on what the mothers in our life have given to us to get us where we are today.
My mother (and…

A New Pattern and Warm Weather - Finally!
A New Pattern and Warm Weather – Finally!
Finally! Warm Weather and a New Pattern
At long last, a new pattern is here. If you’ve been reading our posts for awhile now, you know that I lack patience. That comes into play when I’ve been doing the same thing for a prolonged period. Last September was the last time I fished without my bib and warming layers. Finally, this new pattern of warmth and sunny skies over the last week allowed me to…

Big Water Washington - Home Away from Home
Big Water Washington – Home Away from Home
Do you know the feeling you get on the final approach to your fishing destination? By final approach, I mean the drive, flight, or boat ride that ultimately gets you to your basecamp. The feeling for me is usually anxiety laden up to the reveal. After the reveal, I normalize pretty quickly and start wanting to fish. That is not what happened when the Zone and I pulled up to the Black Bear Lodge…

The Fishing Workout - Plus Observations from the Water - 20180408 – 20180414
The Fishing Workout – Plus Observations from the Water – 20180408 – 20180414
People normally don’t put physical fitness and fishing together in the same sentence. I mean, why would you? For most, fishing is a way to escape the weekly grind and leave the toils of life behind. Considering it a workout may taint the experience for some. However, think about every guide you’ve ever known. How many are fat? I’m betting not many. You don’t often see fat/out of shape guides. In…

False Spring - Being Cold is Getting Old – 20180401-20180407
False Spring – Being Cold is Getting Old – 20180401-20180407
What is a false spring? I made the term up this past week. Well…in my head I made it up and haven’t bothered to research if it’s a real thing. A false spring is when the images and sensations one so fondly associates with this season don’t seem to come to pass. Things like budding trees, warmer temperatures, increased time outside, the smells of flowers, pairing of animals, birds you haven’t seen…

How to Execute a Fishing Bender
How to Execute a Fishing Bender
Do you need a fishing bender? Look no further than Buffalo Niagara
We’ve had the pleasure of executing numerous fishing benders all over the country in the past couple of decades. We cataloged many of them in our Re-Discover Your Regionseries of short films. However, it wasn’t until a client of ours executed a bender to Buffalo Niagara that I felt compelled to capture how perfect this place is…

Complacency Kills Angling Prospects
Complacency Kills Angling Prospects
Does Complacency Kill in Angling?
Back in my military days, Complacency Kills, was a phrase embedded in our heads starting in basic training. The theory behind the idea is that if you become complacent, you lose situational awareness.  If you lose situational awareness, you could end up getting yourself and your fellow warriors killed. Yeah, that’s a bit extreme if you try to directly apply that…

Late Winter Fishing Report – 20180305-20180311
Late Winter Fishing Report – 20180305-20180311
Late winter in Buffalo Niagara often feels like, well, winter. Just like it did this past week. The temperatures were below freezing, the wind blew from just about every direction week, and it snowed – white outs at times. That may sound dreary to some – to most people probably. From casual small talk at the gas station to random conversations with…

The Dog Days of Winter - is That a Thing?
The Dog Days of Winter – is That a Thing?
Are the dog days of winter a thing?
I was out fishing on the Lower Niagara River with Chuck and his bride Sara a few days ago when the concept of the “dog days of winter” popped up. Not even a week earlier, he and I both had strong days in the same spot using the same tactics. That day, however, action was sporadic. Not so slow as to make us lose interest but slow enough for us to start…

Guyana – An Adventurous Angler’s Paradise
Our Guyana trip was a resounding success! It’s no secret – we love to fish and think about it incessantly. We are fortunate to live and guide in a fishery that keeps us engaged year-roundand we love advocating for it every chance we get. Although we love our home waters here in Buffalo Niagara, we still have a wanderlust that pushes us to explore new…

Winter Fishing in Buffalo Niagara – 20171218 - 20171225
Winter Fishing in Buffalo Niagara – 20171218 – 20171225
Winter Fishing in Buffalo Niagara – 20171218 – 20171225
Winter fishing in Buffalo Niagara can be magical. Right now, as I type this, there are thousands of steelhead and brown trout in the lower river and great lake tributaries throughout the region. While cold weather keeps many anglers and would-be anglers inside, those that avoid the shack nasties will capitalize on relatively unpressured…
