Instead of returning her medal, Jordan Chiles should tell the Olympics that she gave it to Elmo and have them fight muppets for the medal back. Also people on social media should say who has it and make whoever is asking for the medal to be returned look bad for fighting puppets and Jordan. Just my thoughts.

Anyway these bronze medal controversies is why I don't really watch artistic gymnastics anymore. Since its entered the mainstream zeigeist and become a part of stan culutre, Team USA is always portrayed as Infallible and the FIG must simply affirm their infallibility. If you are critical of American gymnstics as a whole or FIG governance, it's turned into a culture war issue by pretending it's about racism or fatphobia or bullying or some shit.

All the manufactured controversy did not effect her, Imane Khelif of Algeria takes a decision over Hungary to advance to the semifinals of the women’s 66kg tournament! That means she is bringing Algeria a bronze medal home. She’ll have a rematch with Janjaem Suwannapheng in the next round.

The Forgotten Medalist SUMMARY: Mila competed in 2014 too. Don't forget. Ice to Meet You Masterlist
Word Count: 517 Warnings: None
The Forgotten Medalist Juliana Alvarez, Sports Correspondent
Amidst the controversy of the 2014 Winter Olympics, there has been one person who has been left behind. With all the attention on Yuna Kim and Adelina Sotnikova, bronze medalist Milana Petrova has been largely sidelined. The fifteen-year-old celebrated a milestone by achieving a podium finish on her first Olympic run.
Born in New York City, Petrova’s journey to the Olympics is a testament to her prodigious talent. She started dancing at the age of two and began learning to skate when she was five. By the time she was competing at age seven, her talent was undeniable. Georgi Pagano, her coach, saw in her a spark that led him to believe she could challenge the best of the best. “Mila has always been great,” he said in a post-Olympic interview, “She was always going to make the team. She was always going to reach the podium. There was never any doubt.”
This Olympics saw Kim and Sotnikova as favorites for the gold, but it was Petrova who had been the surprise podium-finish. Her short program performance to Elysium from the Gladiator film score and her free skate to For the Love of a Princess from the Braveheart film score left audiences in awe. Both programs were technically demanding, with Petrova expertly executing a textbook triple axel in both, but they were also artistically wonderful to watch. The emotions were all there, beautifully showcased, and the musical interpretation was nothing if not timed perfectly.
The results of her performances sparked a debate across the figure skating community, with many believing her consistency, level of difficulty, and artistry were overlooked for Sotnikova’s inconsistent but more athletic and technical programs. Still, while the scores she was given were lower than expected, likely due to a slightly under-rotated triple salchow—a jump that has always been Petrova’s weakness—it was clear to all that had watched her skate that she was a force waiting to be fully awakened.
Though the focus for this Olympics might be on Kim and Sotnikova’s rivalry, and the subsequent allegations that came with it, Petrova’s accomplishment must not be overlooked. At just fifteen, she’s shown that she can go toe-to-toe with the best and come out on top. The young skater has also shown a maturity beyond her years, proficiently handling the pressure that comes with having a nation’s expectations on your shoulders. She says in a post-skate interview, “It’s been a dream of mine to make it to the Olympics. To have gotten a medal at my first is beyond even my own expectations. I could sit here and think about what I could have done better or what things could have affected my programs, but the results are what they are. There’s only up from here.”
As she says, there’s only up from here. While Milana Petrova might be the forgotten medalist amidst the controversy surrounding the 2014 Winter Olympics, her rise to the top of this sport is only beginning. Already a gold medal favorite for the next Olympics, her potential can only be described as limitless.

TMNT Character Ranking ask Game: Michelangelo
HELLO 👋🏻
Oooooooo okay. Time to get controversial. Lemme choose three of the ones that I feel 1: Stands out from the rest, and 2: Is a perfect blend of both little bro and comedy!
In my opinion, Batman vs. TMNT Mikey is probably the BEST Mikey. Period. He’s the perfect balance of comedic relief and wacky little brother who cracks jokes to break the ice. His little friendship with Alfred is also golden. Kyle Mooney is also AWESOME as the nunchuck master!
The silver medal goes to 2012 Mikey. Firstly Greg Cipes provides an excellent vocal performance— he’s literally the best voice actor for Mikey! I think he’s also a great little brother, always being there to support his family when the cards are down, generally being so kind and accepting of those who otherwise would’ve been rejected, being helpful and quirky, just… he’s so wholesome. ALSO HE ISN’T STUPID OR HELPLESS, AND HE HAS HIS FAIR SHARE OF FLAWS!
The bronze medal goes to Mutant Mayhem Mikey! I’m so honored I got the opportunity to meet Shamon Brown Jr in June, and I think this version brings a ton to the table!! He’s fun, uplifting, and just hoped for acceptance by the world, never giving up his dream even when faced with doubt. I’m so excited for the series and to see what they do with him, he’s got so much potential!!
As for the rest, lemme summarize!
Rise! Mikey— Runner up! He’s fun and has some badass mystic abilities with that kusari-fundo, turning him into a Ghost Rider Spider-Turtle 🤣 but we don’t really get too much of stand alone Mikey to really KNOW him like we did with Raph, Leo and Donnie. Even April got her own solo episode!
1987 Mikey— Who doesn’t love the classics! Such a chill, fun goober with a ton of great moments and very wholesome!
1990 Mikey— Robbie Rist provides excellent vocal work and makes this live action iteration iconic for all the best reasons.
2007 Mikey— Great voice actor, but we literally don’t get to spend time with him outside of his intro. This movie is the Raph and Leo variety hour 😂
Bayverse Mikey— If they had taken those stupid Innuendos out of the first film he’d be great! He got slightly better in the second one, but DAMN, missed opportunity.
And then, settling in bottom place, my least favorite version of him ever… 2003 Mikey.
Lemme start by saying IM SORRY. I know everyone likes him but… god, I cannot STAND him. He’s just so irritating and obnoxious! He makes everything about himself, he’s self centered and bratty when he doesn’t get his way, he COMPLAINS when he’s tasked to take part in a plan to break out of space prison and HES THE BANE OF MY EXISTENCE IN THE LAST TWO SEASONS 😂😂😂😂
But yeah! These are my hot takes!
Hope you liked this! 😊

Matt Gertz at MMFA:
American women covered their country in Olympic glory in Paris on Thursday. Katie Ledecky broke the record for most swimming medals won by a woman when the U.S. team captured silver in the 4x200-meter freestyle, while Simone Biles won gold in her second women’s gymnastics all-around Olympics event and her teammate Suni Lee took the bronze. But on this side of the Atlantic, the American right was apparently more interested in bemoaning the purported death of women’s sports than cheering on their compatriots. The leading lights of the right-wing media spent Thursday melting down over an Olympics welterweight boxing match between two women from Algeria and Italy as they sought to drum up a ragefest they could use to firm up Donald Trump’s wavering election prospects against Vice President Kamala Harris.
Imane Khelif of Algeria won her Olympics boxing match against Italy’s Angela Carini when Carini forfeited after taking several blows to the face in the fight’s opening seconds (in boxing, for those unfamiliar with the sport, competitors try to hit each other in the head as hard as they can and can win by rendering their opponent unconscious). The U.S. right quickly seized on the match and plugged it into their obsessive anti-trans hysteria, falsely declaring Khelif a man who had beaten up a woman.
If you want to know more about Khelif — a veteran of international women’s boxing competition who was eliminated in the quarterfinal round of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and whose passport, from a country where you cannot legally change your gender, identifies her as female — read Paolo Armelli’s story on the controversy for Wired. If you are interested in the history of sports competitions grappling with complex questions about the gender and sex of athletes, my former colleague Parker Molloy wrote nuanced pieces on the subject for Vice News, CJR, and at her Substack.
What was quite clear on Thursday, however, is that the weirdo right, obsessed with conducting bizarre “transvestigations,” doesn’t care about any of this. They simply want to misgender Khelif, invoke the rage associated with domestic violence by claiming she is a man punching a woman, and channel the resulting outrage and anti-trans hate into their own political gain.
A MAGA media frenzy quickly ensued on X after the match, with Riley Gaines, the right-wing activist who built her career complaining about trans women competing in sports, at the heart of the outburst. [...]
This sustained freakout is a perfect example of how the right-wing media has become pickled in its own outrage. They simply cannot let themselves — or anyone else — enjoy good things that normal Americans enjoy, like the dominance of U.S. women at the Olympics. Instead, they build their audiences and make their money by constantly trying to find something they can get mad about. Being a right-winger in good standing in recent years has required working oneself into a culture war frenzy over the NFL, Budweiser beer, Disney movies, Beyoncé, and Taylor Swift, among other all-American icons. [...]
“This is where Kamala Harris's ideas about gender lead: to a grown man pummeling a woman in a boxing match,” vice presidential nominee JD Vance posted to X on Thursday. “This is disgusting, and all of our leaders should condemn it.” His running mate — who a jury found liable for sexual abuse, and who was introduced at the Republican National Convention last month by a man who had been captured on video hitting his wife in the face — chimed in. “I WILL KEEP MEN OUT OF WOMEN’S SPORTS!” Trump posted to Truth Social.
Other Republican politicians, including Texas Gov. Greg Abbott; Reps. Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Anthony D’Esposito of New York, Greg Steube of Florida, and Mike Collins of Georgia; North Carolina gubernatorial nominee Mark Robinson and Senate nominees Hung Cao of Virginia and Kari Lake of Arizona also contributed to the sick debate. Normal people are too busy cheering for American champions like Ledecky and Biles to spend their time doing chalkboard scrawls explaining how Kamala Harris should be blamed for who Algeria sends to the Olympics. But with Trump’s polling lead slipping away and his campaign apparently trying to reignite by focusing on what appeals to the party’s weirdo wing, we can expect much more of this in the months to come.
The right-wing Weirdo Caucus were big mad over two cisgender women boxers to push an anti-trans narrative, and as usual, the likes of anti-trans extremists such as J.K. Rowling, Riley Gaines, Charlie Kirk, and Clay Travis led the charge of faux outrage against Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-Ting’s participation in women’s boxing under the guise of “defending women’s sports.”

Memoirs and oral histories from participants in the 1936 Olympics reveal generally apolitical attitudes among the athletes. "The controversy about boycotting the Games didn't make much of an impression on me or most of the athletes striving to make our Olympic team," one U.S. team member recalled.
"There never was any question in my mind about going to Germany." According to gold medalist John Woodruff, the boycott "was never discussed amongst team members. We heard something about it, but we never discussed it. We weren't interested in the politics you see, at all, we were only interested in going to Germany and winning." The oarsmen agreed. "We were not politically-minded," Joe Rantz recalled. "We were not aware there was a contrast in the [kind of] government, that Hitler was any different than anyone else who was head of a state." "We, as athletes, or at least on my part, didn't think much about the political aspects," Gordon Adam agreed. "I didn't give a damn about Hitler," Bob Moch explained:
“We didn't care whether he existed or not. We were there to do a job. That was all. At that level, with the determination and the intensity, if you are going to be good, it is something, just intangible.. you realize... that the determination and intensity is terrific. It is not just in rowing. At that level it has got to be every competitor that really wants to medal. If he really wants to medal, and get that gold, or silver, or bronze medal in the Olympics, he has to focus, he has to be determined, and the intensity has to be all-consuming.”
— an excerpt from Six Minutes in Berlin: Broadcast Spectacle and Rowing Gold at the Nazi Olympics by Michael J. Socolow

#MelanatedMediaNews: *Warning some of the images here may have offensive language*
Olympian gymnast #JordanChiles is at risk of losing her bronze medal after a controversial decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The court ruled in favor of two Romanian gymnasts who challenged the scoring of the floor final, ultimately leading to the reversal of Jordan's score that initially placed her in third position. According to #NBCChicago, the Romanian committee argued that an inquiry made on behalf of Team USA after the floor final should not have been allowed as it was submitted after the one-minute deadline. As a result, the court reversed Jordan's score, reinstating her initial score of 13.666. According to #People, this decision pushes Jordan back to fifth place, with the two Romanian gymnasts moving ahead of her. Jordan expressed her response on her Instagram story, mentioning that she would be taking a break from social media. Additionally, USA Gymnastics released a statement addressing the ruling. It's important to note that #JordanChiles' sister #JazminChiles also defended her sister on social media after receiving racist comments following the court's decision.

Here's a messy (off-topic) topic for you: the gymnastics bronze medal.
holy cannoli, man. Talk about a mess.
--rumor tracking anon
Omg RTA, honestly I feel bad for both athletes. The Olympics this year were rife with controversies and way too many insane moments. My jaw was on the floor quite a bit, and not just because of the French pole vault guy 🤣
You know who I don’t feel bad for? Raygun the “breakdancer” 🫠

Gymnastics Scoring Controversy: Romanian Ana Barbosu Awarded Olympic Bronze
In a dramatic turn of events, Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu has been declared the bronze medalist in the women’s floor exercise at the Paris Olympics, replacing American Jordan Chiles. This decision follows the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s (CAS) ruling to overturn an appeal made by Chiles’ coach during the competition.
The controversy stemmed from a scoring dispute that unfolded during the floor exercise final. After completing her routine, Chiles was initially awarded a score of 13.666, placing her fifth. However, her coach, Cecile Landi, appealed to the judges to have an element restored to Chiles’ routine. The appeal was granted, boosting Chiles’ score by 0.1 and bumping her up to third place, earning her the bronze medal.
The Romanian Gymnastics Federation challenged the appeal, arguing that it was filed past the one-minute deadline stipulated by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) guidelines. CAS upheld the Romanian federation’s appeal, ruling that Landi’s appeal was indeed filed four seconds late.
As a result, Chiles’ score was reverted to 13.666, and the original order of finish was reinstated, with Barbosu taking the bronze. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed the reallocation of the medal, and the USOPC will return the bronze medal previously awarded to Chiles.
The decision sparked mixed reactions. While Barbosu remained relatively quiet, her teammate Sabrina Maneca-Voinea took to social media to express her frustration over what she believed was incorrect scoring during her routine. Chiles, who had been subjected to online criticism, deactivated her social media accounts.
The USOPC expressed its disappointment with the decision, stating that the initial error occurred in the scoring by FIG and that they were not given adequate time or notice to challenge the CAS decision effectively. They plan to appeal the decision further.
This incident has highlighted the complexities and challenges of judging in gymnastics, particularly in high-stakes events like the Olympics. It has also sparked a debate about the fairness and transparency of the appeals process.
Despite the controversy, the Romanian team celebrated their success in Paris, marking their return to the Olympic podium after a 12-year absence. Barbosu emphasized that athletes deserve to be rewarded based on their performance and that the problems lie with the judges and their decisions.
The gymnastics community continues to grapple with the aftermath of this controversy, with many calling for a review of the judging and appeals process to ensure fairness and prevent similar incidents in the future.

Cong Wang vs Valentina Shevchenko - Kunlun Fight 33
UFC Debut Alert!
Very rarely am I excited for UFC debuts but we got a good one this week - Chinese flyweight Cong Wang (5-0). Cong is an experienced Sanda fighter and kickboxer, who has this controversial win over UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko in kickboxing. She's got a world championship in Wushu and also won a silver medal at the 2019 Amateur World Boxing championships. She lost in the finals to 2x Olympic medalist and future pro world champion Beatriz Ferreira. She also beat 2x Olympic bronze medalist Mira Potkonen in that tournament. Point being, she's a legit striker making her way into MMA.
Cong Wang will face off with Victoria Leonardo (9-5) at UFC Fight Night: Cannonier vs. Borralho this Saturday (August 24).

Today's translation #334
Yuri!!! on ICE DVD #6, Characters' profiles
Jean Jacques Leroy
A 19-years-old, who has already reached the position of a top skater and this season advanced to the Grand Prix Final with zero loses. His jumps, including quad lutz, are both high and good quality - there is nothing to criticize in them, and there is nothing lacking in his technique - his powerful skating and transitions, in which he often use hydroblading, a technique that he is particularly good at. In the Final, he recovered from the last position after the short program, and managed to land a quad loop, even though he had a step out. Is this ability to turn anything into profit, what makes him the self-proclaimed "King"?
He's a devote Christian, who loves his family and his country. In the past he changed coaches often, and that could have something to do with him being very self-assured, but now he is coached by his parents, that are ex-ice dancers. His younger siblings also compete in juniors - the Leroys are a family of figure skaters.
Otabek Altin
When he was still in juniors, he didn't stand out much as a competitor, but since last season, he has rapidly started to gain more strength and that resulted in him getting a bronze medal at Worlds. He isn't a skater particularly blessed with flexibility and good style, but by pursuing his own way of fighting, he developed his manly, sincere and sturdy style that can't be copied by anyone else - the exact opposite to softness and glamour. His triple axel is also highly praised for its height, width and flow.
Starting from Kazakhstan, where figure skating isn't particularly popular, with a goal to reach the World level, he trained in various countries looking for better conditions and coaches, but this year, he returned to his home country. He doesn't speak much, but his words and actions are always very simple "YES" or "NO". His hobby are bikes and DJ-ing.
[Notes: Since I happen to translate from DVDs' booklets rn, and the recent "controversy" (which is completely based on nothing but misinterpretation spread by anti-MAPPA part of the Eng fandom) happened...
It seems that not many of those people, who accuse Otsuka CEO of lying - because clearly MAPPA made so much money, since the DVDs were selling so well - ever owned those DVDs. MAPPA's name just isn't anywhere on them...
The state of the fandom makes me genuinely sad, as somebody who loves this show really, really a lot, but people pretending they know the anime industry better than an anime studio's CEO is still a peak dark comedy... 💀

BREAKING: TWO “Female Boxers” Set To Compete At Paris 2024 Were Previously Disqualified From Women’s World Championship For Having “XY Chromosomes”
By
Anna Slatz
July 27, 2024
Two athletes competing at the Paris Olympics as “women” were previously disqualified from a women’s world championship for having “XY chromosomes.” Imane Khelif of Algeria and Lin Yu-Ting of Taiwan are scheduled to compete in Olympic women’s boxing next week despite past questions surrounding their biological sex.
The Women’s World Boxing Championships took place in March of 2023 and was hosted in New Delhi, India. A total of 324 boxers from 64 nations competed during the 10-day trial, marking the largest participation in any iteration of the championship ever recorded.
However, the grand event was marred by controversy after Umar Kremlev, president of the International Boxing Association (IBA), announced the disqualification of multiple boxers from the championship.
Kremlev said that IBA executives had met towards the championship’s grand finale to discuss “fairness among athletes and professionalism,” after concerns were raised about the biological sex of some participants. He added that after “a series of DNA-tests,” the IBA “uncovered athletes who were trying to fool their colleagues and pretend to be women.”
Speaking to TASS News, Kremlev claimed that the tests had proven the athletes in question “had XY chromosomes and were thus excluded from the sports events.”
Among the disqualified was Imane Khelif, an Algerian boxer who had been set to challenge Yang Liu of China in the welterweight final. Khelif was removed from the gold medal fight, and Thailand’s Janjaem Suwannapheng, who had lost to Khelif in the semi-finals, was allowed to proceed to fight Yang instead.
In a public statement, the IBA wrote that “a boxer from Algeria, Imane Khelif, was excluded from the IBA World Boxing Championships due to the failure to meet the IBA eligibility criteria.” But the Algerian Olympic Committee denied the IBA’s claims, attributing Khelif’s disqualification to a “conspiracy” to prevent Algeria from having a gold medal in boxing.
While they vaguely alluded to Khelif being struck for “medical reasons” surrounding high testosterone levels, they added that they would be supporting Khelif’s journey to the 2024 Paris Olympics regardless.
But following the controversial disqualification, a female boxer came forward to discuss her experience fighting Khelif in the ring at the championship.
“When I fought with her I felt very out of my depth,” Mexican boxer Brianda Tamara wrote on X. “Her blows hurt me a lot, I don’t think I had ever felt like that in my 13 years as a boxer, nor in my sparring with men. Thank God that day I got out of the ring safely, and it’s good that they finally realized,” Tamara said.
A second boxer was similarly disqualified by the IBA at the event, Taiwan’s Lin Yu-Ting, who was also stripped of a bronze medal.
Lin had previously won 5 gold medals in women’s boxing tournaments.
Lin Yu-Ting winning gold and a $100,000 prize at a 2022 women’s boxing championship.
Despite having faced the disqualification just last year, both boxers will be competing in Paris as female boxers.
Khelif is scheduled to fight Italy’s Angela Carini on August 1, while Lin Yu-Ting is set to be matched the next day.
While neither have stated they identify as transgender, it is suspected that both are impacted by a Difference of Sexual Development (DSD), a category of medical conditions encompassing any problem noted at birth where the genitalia are atypical in relation to the chromosomes or gonads.
DSDs in elite sports first came to public attention during the meteoric rise of South African runner Caster Semenya. Semenya’s rapid improvements in performance beginning in 2009 initially triggered suspicions of drug use, and World Athletics (then called the IAAF) was internationally denounced for requesting Semenya take a test to ascertain his biological sex.
Most women, including elite female athletes, have natural testosterone levels of 0.12 to 1.79 nanomoles per liter (nmol/L), but Semenya has XY chromosomes and male gonads producing a normal level of testosterone for a male. In 2011, Semenya was measured as having 15.6 and 29.3 nmol/L. Years later, a decision in the Court of Arbitration for Sport revealed that Semenya has a DSD where the normal male sexual development fails in utero, resulting in external genitals that appear to be a vagina at birth, but was in fact an underdeveloped penis.
Speaking to Reduxx, a representative with the Independent Council on Women’s Sports (ICONS) condemned the confusion that had emerged surrounding the sex of competitors due to the International Olympic Committee’s 2000 decision to end sex-verification screening.
“The IOC’s decision to end sex-verification screening in 2000 has caused distrust and confusion in women’s sports ever since,” ICONS co-founder Marshi Smith said. “Its 2021 decision to offload the responsibility for international eligibility criteria to individual sporting bodies has resulted in varied standards and widespread chaos among athletes, coaches, officials, and the public.”
Smith notes that a new boxing qualification system was implemented for the 2024 Olympics in which an ad-hoc unit was created by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board to organize the boxing competitions for Paris 2024.
This new unit was set up after the International Boxing Association (IBA), which had previously disqualified Khelif and Lin from women’s championships, was suspended by the IOC due to concerns it was receiving funding from Russia.
In the FAQ for the Paris 2024 Boxing Unit, no gender eligibility guidelines are specified, something Smith suggests likely indicates that individual nations were given a tremendous amount of power to deem their own athletes eligible.
“In boxing, the recent contentious split between the IBA and the IOC has now placed Olympic eligibility power into the hands of national boxing federations, allowing countries like Algeria and Taiwan to set their own standards and continue placing male boxers in the ring with female athletes in combat for women’s Olympic medals,” Smith explains.
“The physical abuse of women on an Olympic stage eliminates the integrity of all Olympic events and risks lifelong injury or even death for female athletes. This deceit cannot be allowed to continue.”
