Broadtail AKA silk lamb is the pelt of prematurely born lamb produced by Karakul or Karakul crossbred (Persian lamb, swakara, astrakhan) sheep. Broadtail AKA silk lamb is the pelt of prematurely born lamb produced by Karakul or Karakul crossbred (Persian lamb, swakara, astrakhan) sheep. These lambs are prematurely stillborn as a result of exposure to harsh environmental conditions and are the highest valued type of lamb fur. This is because skins coming from unborn lambs have a glossy, flat, wavy "moiré'" look that is highly appraised and literally loved by haute couture designers. The fur coats made from these materials inspire class without being ostentatious and it manages to turn heads without crying out loud. In order to acquire the finest quality broadtail, our in-field experts are constantly working in the mountain villages of Inner Mongolia as well as on the green valleys of Uzbekistan. By selecting ONLY the non-damaged skins with unique patterns, we create an assortment of luxury lamb fur plates that enable us to craft dressy fur garments that have an elegant nature as a result.

A karakul (or qaraqul) hat (Pashto/Persian: قراقلی) is a hat made from the fur of the Qaraqul breed of sheep. The triangular hat is part of the costume of the native people of Kabul which has been worn by many generations of men in Afghanistan. The fur from which it is made is referred to as Astrakhan, broadtail, qaraqulcha, or Persian lamb. Qaraqul means black fur in Turkic, similar types of hats are common among Turkic peoples. The hat is peaked, and folds flat when taken off of the wearer's head.

The updated approach was detectable in his stoles, a garment the designer is trying to gear toward a younger customer. One standout came in white, with one end looped through the other so it stayed in place. It could easily be worn at the dinner table. The collection’s more modern aspect didn’t mean Basso forgot the classics. A gray plaid cashmere coat with broadtail and fox fur cuffs looked timeless. There was an obvious emphasis on masculine dressing here, as seen in the Katharine Hepburn–style high-waisted trousers and fox-trimmed coat. Another tough yet feminine head-turner was an expertly cut leather coat with sleeves slit to the forearms trimmed with mink and sable. Basso is no stranger to glitz, but in the case of a sharp jumpsuit featuring the word siren on the pant leg, it seemed a bit much. The megawatt sparkle worked in more classic instances, such as a white gown with side cut-outs and a skirt that was covered in gray and black sequins.
