I know I could be watching it on Netflix or whatever, but even without the last couple minutes of the episode, I'd rather watch the X-Files with Peter Boyle and the Stupendous Yappi I recorded off broadcast TV on a primitive homemade DVR in 2016 where every commercial break has a spot for California Psychics

since you're from brazil, do you have any memories of the stuff you've watched on broadcast tv?
Oh, yeah, I've watched a bunch of cartoons. Some now are sadly lost media.
Also a bunch of horror movies that now I can't believe they even ALLOWED to be shown on broadcast TV in the 80's-90's. Some even during afternoon!
ℝ𝔼𝔸𝕃𝕃𝕐? 𝕃𝕚𝕜𝕖, 𝕨𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕜𝕚𝕟𝕕 𝕠𝕗 𝕙𝕠𝕣𝕣𝕠𝕣 𝕗𝕝𝕚𝕔𝕜𝕤?
Mostly trash horror, the blockbusters were reserved to late night programming. Tbh, when I was younger, we already had cable, but I mostly watched broadcast; though during the time I was a child, both got more picky with movie selection.
𝕊𝕠 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕠𝕟𝕝𝕪 𝕗𝕠𝕦𝕟𝕕 𝕠𝕦𝕥 𝕝𝕒𝕥𝕖𝕣 𝕠𝕟.
Yeah, sorry to disappoint you. I wasn't among the... 'lucky children' who watched Monster in the Closet, Critters or even Return of the Living Dead in broadcast TV.
ℕ𝕠, 𝕟𝕠, 𝕀'𝕞 𝕟𝕠𝕥 𝕕𝕚𝕤𝕒𝕡𝕡𝕠𝕚𝕟𝕥𝕖𝕕. 𝔹𝕦𝕥 𝕚𝕥 𝕚𝕤 𝕚𝕟𝕥𝕖𝕣𝕖𝕤𝕥𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕥𝕠 𝕝𝕖𝕒𝕣𝕟 𝕥𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕜𝕚𝕕𝕤 𝕚𝕟 𝔹𝕣𝕒𝕫𝕚𝕝 𝕨𝕖𝕣𝕖 𝕖𝕧𝕖𝕟 𝕒𝕝𝕝𝕠𝕨𝕖𝕕 𝕥𝕠 𝕤𝕖𝕖 𝕥𝕙𝕖𝕤𝕖 𝕓𝕒𝕔𝕜 𝕥𝕙𝕖𝕟.

I miss this.
Then there are those of us who don't have streaming (I can't afford it). Fandom tumblr is crammed with movies and series I've never seen, except for clips and scenes and commentaries on YouTube. More than half of my mutuals are into fandoms I've never heard of and can't watch.
With TV we used to have a collective experience. Anyone could watch anything (unless you lived at home and your family didn't watch it or watched something else that was on at the same time. We had epic battles over who would get to see what, usually solved with "You watch your thing this week, then your sister watches her thing next week." Unsatisfactory, but better than nothing.)
And you could watch it for free.
fandom tumblr was another casualty of streaming services. we used to be on here posting about the episodes that were coming out weekly and posting gifs and writing insane shit about the tv shows we liked. now a new season of a show will drop and we’ll talk about it for a week. two weeks tops. and then that show will leave collectively conscious for 1+ year till the next season drops. there’s a reason succession sundays was a blast on here
we used to have real television

People think news is an exceptionally serious field to work in but i need y'all to know that once a day i have this conversation:
Talent: "Am I at the BAM?" Me: "Yep BAM." Talent: "BAM BAM?" ME: "BAM BAM."
and in case you're wondering BAM literally just means Big Ass Monitor not to be mistaken for the FBAM which is the Fucking Big Ass Monitor.

MeTv Toons Review
Hey Ladies & Gents! Today I will be reviewing MeTv Toons. A cartoon channel that just launched on broadcast television. It’s a great cartoon channel. Lots of cartoons 24/7 but sometimes they replay the same cartoons. Which is the only bad thing about it. The weekday lineup is pretty decent, it’s all my favorites. It’s currently only on antenna and certain streaming services. So watch out for it…

Weekly output: pig butchering, NextGen TV, EV charging, Mark Vena podcast
I filed my last copy for this week at 10 p.m. Friday, and then it was a delight to have Saturday be my first legit work-free day since… um, Jan. 1. 1/16/2024: Don’t Engage: ‘Pig Butchering’ Scams Start With a Text, End in Financial Ruin, PCMag One reason I couldn’t unplug from work last Sunday: I had to watch my friend Sean Gallagher’s very good walkthrough of pig-butchering scams at the ShmooCon…

We watched SO much stuff in those days for no other reason than it was what happened to be on. We stumbled onto a lot of rare gems that way, but we also consumed a ton of pablum in the process.
You know, with streaming being the dominant form of television watching these days, I feel like the children of today are sorely missing out on incredibly medicore canadian cartoons you only watch because literally nothing else that's interesting to children is on.
