do the Masters trio have any particular feelings on if their student takes their surname over their original one? Is that a common tradition for Wayfarers? Thank you so much for your game I'm excited for the future

I'm going to have to check my notes but iirc taking your mentor's surname is an old tradition (as many Wayfarers have come from families they want no connection to), but it's not very common within the last generation of Wayfarers.

Cenric has taught (and raised, in some cases) many apprentices over the course of his life and he remembers each one. His apprentice taking his surname is the kind of thing that will make him cry if he thinks about it too long. I can't remember if this has come up anywhere, but Cenric inherited his surname from his mentor, and his mentor from theirs, so there's a line of unbroken history here going back a few generations. He is the most paternal out of the three and the most likely to consider his apprentice family.

Sero is filled with a great sense of pride, but they don't linger on it outwardly. It's the kind of thing where they'll be going about their regular day and then it'll hit them and they'll feel mushy for a minute and then continue going about their day.

Varyn deeply respects her apprentice, but she sees their choice either as a formality or a practicality (if they are Child of the Streets or otherwise wish to have no lingering connections with their birth family) more than anything else. She is the least familial out of the three - her apprentice is her student, not her adopted family.

Gavin felt like no matter what had happened in his life that Brissa was that special person. She was that one person who always seemed to know exactly who he was and he loved her for as long as he could remember. Even when he was gone, he was always someone that was on her mind. It was why it was surprising when she called him out in such a way. Had he really been acting in such a way that he needed to be called out? He must have because he trusted Brissa so fully. " I'm sorry, I didn’t realize I was being like this, but I have been out of it. " Gavin began, immediately wanting to make sure that he wasn't continuing this behavior. "It's just life right now. Going to court over everything has been taking it out of me. " He was already divorced but the custody issue was wearing him out to the point where he felt like he was only half existing. " It's all me. I'm really sorry for freaking you out. I never want to do that to you Brissa"

"Okay...can we just cut through the bullshit here Gav. What's up?" It was far more blunt than her normal demeanor, but the Nestor was concerned. Brissa and Gavin regularly communicated whether that was via text or voice memos. It had been the way of their relationship since they were kids. She loved him more than she would ever be able to articulate, but their paths were never aligned to one another in that manner. As a result of that, it was always in her best interest to stay his closest of friends. Whatever he needed, she wanted him to know that she'd always be there for him. That now extended to his son too. Albeit things have been a bit dicey for him as of late, she was afraid he was not doing the best at compartmentalizing everything. "You're freaking me out here."

Brissa Varyn is one of three current Wayfarer masters. She spent most of her early life carefully hiding her magical immunity and working her way up through the ranks of the Vodena elite. She is a rare example of a Wayfarer who joined the Order as an adult. She has trained many Wayfarers over her decades with the Order and holds the position of Ambassador for the Order. When she is not teaching, she is travelling to major cities across Rhesainia to negotiate with political leaders.

Varyn is introduced in the Prologue and appears in many flashbacks throughout the game.
