Prompt 9 of @actuallyrea’s ActuallyInfected challenge was “blue screen”. This is close enough right? Super excited for season 2 of @brimstonevalleymall, been relistening to s1 over October!

2&7?
2- Is Audio Drama the only medium I've worked in? How does it compare to other mediums? Okay this got way longer than I expected it to - Before getting started with audio drama, I spent 10+ years doing live comedy, mostly improv and sketch, in Boston's theater scene. It's a great city for comedy, and it's full of some incredibly funny and nice people, which is where I pull most of my voice actors and collaborators from. There were years where I would have shows five or more nights a week, and getting up onstage to work out a new idea and get immediate feedback from the audience whether it worked or not really helped a lot when I turned to ADs. It gives you an instinct for gags and how to get them across as quickly and clearly as possible. Compared to live theatre, audio drama is much more time-consuming and work-intensive. It takes so, so long to go from idea to script to recording to sound design to release, but as a trade off, there's a lot more control over the final product. I can really tweak a joke or sound cue until it's just right. I can play in conceptual and design spaces that are just not available on the stage. The amount that a piece is really mine at the end is much higher, and that's really satisfying. On the other hand by the time I get done making a piece, I've been so close to it for so long that I can only see it's flaws, so I usually can't enjoy it until like, a year later, when the memory of where the gaps are between concept and execution are has faded. Also, the feedback from audio drama compared to live theatre... In live theatre you get laughter, gasps, applause right then and there. You know what's working and it feels amazing to fly on those conceptual threads. ADs on the other hand you get maybe a few reviews, a few tweets, and you can see your download numbers go up (something I check way too often for my own mental health). I've been very lucky and been sent some wonderful pieces of fanart and had some lovely interactions, but it can sometimes feel like you've poured a lot of love down a well. That said, a downside of live theatre is you have to do it anew every night and you have to constantly be booking space, promoting, putting in time and energy and money just to be able to have an audience. With audio dramas, the reach that you have is so, so much larger. Wiz4Wiz has had tens of thousands of downloads! I couldn't imagine having a stage show get seen by more than maybe a thousand people if I'm extremely lucky. And seeing people recommend it to one another and still enjoy it years later is an amazing feeling. It's also led to meeting some amazing people in the audio drama space and getting to work with some real heroes of mine.
7 - If you could make a crossover (canon or noncanon) with any other audio drama, what would it be? I think a Brimstone Valley Mall/Wizard Seeking Wizard crossover would be really cool.

I started with The Two Princes because it was LGBTQ+ (I heard podcasts were good with representation) -> Faerie bc it was made by Parcast (I knew them from their non-fiction shows) then I saw Jonmartin fanart on Tumblr so I went to The Magnus Archives -> Welcome to Night Vale bc it was popular (DNF, but got to ep 107) -> Archive 81 (just recommended on Spotify) -> Dead Letter Office of Somewhere, Ohio (Spotify rec) -> Valle de Cielo Gris (I was looking for Night Vale vibes, but also something in Spanish) -> Death by Dying (looking for quirky town/dark comedy vibes) -> The Mistholme Museum (suggested on Tumblr & was kinda Magnus Archives-y in the beginning) -> ??? I jumped through a lot of podcasts at this point, but couldn't get past three episodes max on any of them. -> Limetown (DNF, but enjoyed the first season, I was looking for the real-but-not-real podcast vibe) -> Mordeo (wanted horror) -> Bridgewater (more horror/unsettling) -> POD115 (unsettling) -> Brimstone Valley Mall (wanted something a bit more comedic as a break lol) -> woe.begone (DNF, but again, enjoyed first season, Tumblr rec) -> Midnight Burger (recommended on Tumblr, I was getting into sci-fi) -> The Night Shift (DNF, greatly enjoyed, looking for fantasy) -> Quiet Part Loud (listened to it bc. Jordan Peele. + horror)
hello err fans of podcasts :3 im doing a project for school on fiction podcasts so..
if you could reblog this with all the podcasts you listened to in order (if you want to provide commentary as to why you went from one podcast to another (for example, the magnus archives to malevolent as a popular example->the eldritch horror) that'd be really useful! thanks :)
