TLR NG Ideas: Part 3

I made a series of character-building headcanons/ideas for the next-generation characters last year in March, and thought I would finally upload them all! I made them all originally in one long list, but I thought I would break them up into the three main sections I was working on them in. Here is Part 3!

I hope you enjoy! This is the last of the old headcanons/ideas to share, but hopefully I'll have some up for Elora and Nerissa soon!

. While mostly a pretty friendly and calm young man, Aster has a hidden temper inside that he has to make sure he keeps in check. This was inherited from his papa Ren, though Aster's temper mainly comes from dealing with bigoted and hateful people as he has no tolerance for those who are so ignorant and cruel to others for no reason. This used to get him into a lot of trouble when he was younger as he had no problem saying what he really wanted to say and even getting into a couple of physical confrontations, but it was Ren who first taught him how to respond appropriately and redirect his energy into his advocacy work instead. Now whenever he feels the biting urge to respond in a less than polite way, he'll take a breath and respond as calmly as he can, while meditating and writing in his journal later to let out his anger there.

. With how both their respective parents became a lot closer as friends over the years, and they are the same age, Aster and Mira have naturally become very close friends. Not only have they seen each other a lot growing up with all their families' visits together, but at first they also bonded over being clay babies as they never really had anyone else to relate with on that or who fully understood what it was like. Both are also very outgoing, curious, and explorative, and often keep each other on their toes with the adventures they get into together. While there were a few different factors that influenced Mira's interest in witchcraft, Aster was a main reason as she has always loved to see the cool spells and magic effects he comes up with whenever she is visiting Erdennia.

. Despite having that golden, "good boy" look and disposition about him, Aster is secretly interested in more of the alternative and androgynous fashion styles. He is inspired from the evolving fashion trends in Erdennia leaning more on the androgynous and gender-neutral side, as there is a lot of cool looks anyone can pull off and he finds it fun to dress up in ways that don't fit with traditional gender norms. His interest in more alternative styles comes from similar reasons such as some fashion trends throughout history, but also from some of the royals from the other kingdoms. He just admires how they still have fun with fashion when not in their traditional royal attire, and aside from him knowing that he wants to get a lot of tattoos in the future, he also wants to get several piercings too.

. While their whole family is unconventional, Silas tends to feel the most out of place in it. This mainly stems from him being adopted, and some unkind people pointing this out to him even when he has expressed he doesn't like it when they bring it up so much. It causes him to feel like he isn't really valued as a genuine member and puts him on edge whenever the whole family is out together, but they do their best to pull him away from that and show him love, while calmly but sternly putting the other person down for making him feel that way and ever suggesting that he isn't a natural part of the family.

. While he has taken to witchcraft like his parents and older brother, he doesn't really practice or focus on nature-based magic like them much. Instead, he focuses more on general magic, practicing any spells but he has expressed interest in more of the 'darker' spells that most non-witches and even some witches fear for their work on the human body. He doesn't like any of the spells that are harmful or deadly to others, but he is morbidly curious to the ones that deal with death, dreams and nightmares, the conscious versus unconscious states, and souls or spirits, as he has started seeing some float by lately.

. While Briar is regarded as the eldest of the Belmonte kids, she, the rest of her siblings, and her parents still acknowledge Rosia's first miscarried baby as a part of the family. It is a sensitive topic in the household around the date of the miscarriage and the child's expectant birthday, but while all feel blessed to be a part of their big family, they still honor the unborn child as a member. Briar herself will often refer to this sibling as the older sibling, and out of her siblings she wonders the most what life would have been like with them in it.

. All of the Belmonte kids have a flower or plant that is most often associated with them(aside from their birth flowers or namesakes), usually their favorite or one that they are just commonly drawn to for one reason or another. For Briar, it is roses, specifically the wild varieties that have more thorns and prickly parts. For Basil, it is begonias. For Thyme, it is any 'scary' plant, but mainly sharp cacti and venus flytraps. For Hazel, it is freesias. For Ivy, it is marigolds. And lastly for Sage, it is violets.

. Most of them are all a few years older than Erdmann kids, but with the closeness between both their parents they have all grown up together. Aster is the closest with Ivy, being best friends with the same compassionate and selfless natures, and as they are the same age they are the ones who have gone through life side-by-side the most. Silas gets along the most with Sage, as they both relate on a lot of things such as not standing out as much as their older siblings, and they both appreciate that they can just be their quiet self around the other with no expectations for big conversations. Antheia is quite a few years younger than all of them and is kind of timid to talk with most, but she does get along the most with Sage, Briar, and Basil.

Which Hedge Plants Are Best For Bees?

All native plants, which make up our conservation hedge mixes, are great for bees, especially blackthorn and hazel, which open their flowers and catkins before most other trees and shrubs.

The other native classics are Hawthorn, Crab Apple, Dog Rose, Common Dogwood & Red Dogwood, Field Maple, Guelder Rose, Spindle, Sweet Briar Rose or Wayfaring Tree.

By mixing several varieties together (five is a good number), you ensure a good spread of flowering times.

Honey bee hives do not really hibernate; they are active on warm winter days, so plants that flower in cold weather are extra important.

Other great hedge plants for bees include:

Viburnum tinus Eve Price (Winter flowering)

Rosemary (Summer flowering)

Forsythia Spectablis (Winter flowering)

King Edward VII Currant (Early-Spring flowering)

These plants are too small or low growing to be a privacy hedge, but they are perfect for low ornamental hedging / edging.

Lavender (Summer flowering)

Loudstar, seeing Riverpaw struggling the last few moons approaches them and promises them that no one would think less of them for retiring early and that they would still be a valuable member of the Clan as an elder. Riverpaw agrees and later that day their elder ceremony is held. They are named Riverfish

PikaClan welcomes Fadedflake as a new warrior, honoring their intensity

Births

Shrewdusk secretly had a single kitten. He has outsider roots, but due to Shrewdusk's previous affair with Cobaltnose, most are convinced he fathered another kit for her and Shrewdusk isn't caught.

Squirrelkit (male) is born

Misc

Ryecreek is caught as the murderer of Hazelpaw but Tumblekick is not caught as his accomplice despite the rumors (due to Loudstar's huge crush on her). He is promptly exiled.

In another Clan (LionClan according to the dice roll), Icydaze's second litter of kits are named Goldenflare, Shimmercry, Branchbrook, and Fernstripe (names do not count per challenge)

Health

Tumblekick was bitten by a snake, and miraculously survived! Loudstar can't run as long or as quickly as before, but they're glad their leg healed at all

Fogcrawl comes up with a plan to sneak out of camp with Snapmuzzle (medium positive effect) A strange thwacking sounf can be heard from the other side of a boulder and the patrol finds two buck goats engaged in a fight. it must be quite the spectacle . . . (proceed) How is it even possible for the bucks to fight like that wihtout getting massive head-damage or breaking their horns? The patrol watches until one of the bucks gives up and retreats. As the patrol walks back to camp, they playfully headbutt each other, thankfully not as hard as the two buck goats were

Midnight Promises

Briar confides a passionate but very serious promise to Willow and their babies. While overwhelming dread consumes her mind at the notion of such an event, Willow still manages to counteract it to where both of them are left in absolute awe at one another and their strength. ♡

And so the "Special Editions of ACOTAR being released are confirmation of e/riel!" posts have begun.

First off, if there is a difference in number of pages between the original book and the special editions it could be because there is a difference in the dimensions of the actual book. A slightly smaller book overall would mean more pages.

Second, if there was any sort of Bonus Chapter in ACOWAR, it would never be for Elain and Az.

We saw their interactions on page and we were never once shown them as stepping away to chat by themselves. When they were in the garden, we were told they sat there silently.

There was zero time during the Hybern rescue for them to share in a private conversation. You know, because of all the battling and saving Briar and Az needing to be treated by a healer and Elain not seeming to care whether he was OK as he was bleeding out.

I imagine the difference in page size is because of the size of the books but if there was a bonus, Sarah only left us with Nessian, Cassian and Rhys, and Elucien as having off page conversations:

“Nesta spoke as if you’ve been up at the House … often. You’ve offered to train her?” Cassian’s hazel eyes shuttered as he crossed a booted ankle over another, stretching his muscled legs before him. “I go up there every other day. It’s good exercise for my wings.” Those wings shifted in emphasis. Not a scratch marred them. “And?” “And what you saw in the library is a pleasanter version of the conversation we always have.”

And the way Rhys spoke, the way Cassian leaned forward, wincing again, and gripped Rhys’s shoulder … I strode out of the tent. Left them to talk. Azriel and Mor followed behind me.

And for once, my sister rose to her feet and came toward us, the three of us not so subtly heading upstairs. Leaving Lucien and Elain alone. It was an effort not to linger atop the landing, to listen to what was said. If anything was said at all.

I was still mulling over all he said when I slipped into my tent to finally change out of my leathers, leaving him and Elain to go find a place to wash up. And talk—perhaps.
