Aphrodite is, I would say, the goddess I know the most about (even though I'm still learning new things). I literally did all my mythology projects on her when younger lmao

Anyway time to yap

The way I first learned (and preferred) of Aphrodite's birth was emerging from seafoam. I thought it was the coolest thing ever, and was so so SO happy to see people incorporate the ocean in their designs of her. I felt it only appropriate to do the same (I am worried I made her too ocean based- so it's the reason she's got those wings lol)

however, sticking with her origins, I gave her stretchmarks (that I'll likely edit later to detail better) that look loosely like waves. I thought they were cute. Her hair is based on jellyfish frills, and made the underside yellow to be kinda-not-really like scallop shells. The ends of her lashes have little pearls because they are also a symbol of hers

Her animal is the dove, sometimes swan though I see that more with Eros, so I put these utterly useless wings in the back of her head like a hair ornament. They are folded to be in the shape of a heart.

The other lady is Antheia, one of the Graces or Charites, Aphrodite's attendant and the Goddess of flowers (& gardens & other stuff). Her and Aphrodite have a close relationship, and as a kid when first learning about her I thought she was another lover of Aphrodite. She's not, but I consider her Aphrodite's best friend. Her only symbols are flowers, usually roses & blossoms. And for fun, I have her hair loop back into the snake on her head. She's not associated with snakes, but I thought it'd be fun to give her a Garden Snake (though again I'll have to edit that for its patterns).

In The Beautiful Anthia Joseph Paelinck depicts an episode in an ancient Greek tale. During a parade in the temple of Artemis in Ephesus the proud warrior Abrocomeus met the beautiful Anthia. Eros, the god of love, was vexed by Abrocomeus’s indifference and contrived to make him fall passionately in love with the young woman. They married, but Eros’s revenge continued to persecute them. They were kidnapped by pirates, sold as slaves, separated from one another but eventually their love and fidelity helped them overcome their trials and tribulations. The story lends itself perfectly to propagating the nineteenth-century bourgeois moral values. The painting depicts the parade with Anthia in the centre and Abrocomeus to the right in his red coat. The theme, the balanced composition and the careful rendition contribute to making this painting an excellent example of the Classic ideal of Paelinck and other followers of Jacques-Louis David.

New Demigod Cabin: Antheia

Antheia is a minor goddess of flower wreaths, blossoms, gardens and love as well as vegetation, marshes and swamps. As a flowery goddess of beauty and love she's naturally one of Aphrodite's attendants and is sometimes considered to be one of the Charites. Golden colored natural things like honey, myrrh, and amber are associated with her. In ancient times her center of worship was on the island of Crete, and in the present day she often spends time in the Everglades and the Louisiana bayous and other wetlands. As a result, her demigod children are often from the South and can usually speak Spanish or French dialects in addition to English.

The cabin is green with various swamp creatures painted on the outside, flower garlands around the windows, and an especially intricate wreath on the door. Inside there are pots of water filled with swamp plants, and the air always has a floral scent. The fabrics and floor are decorated with lotus, water lily, and cattail motifs. Flower garlands hang from the ceiling, and personalized wreaths hang above each bed. There is a pet flamingo named Florianus who lives outside the cabin and can communicate with its inhabitants.

When Antheia claims her children, a floral wreath symbol appears above their head, which then bursts into a cloud of flower petals. Demigod children of Antheia are often blond and always have amber colored eyes. The cabin's counselor wears a golden necklace decorated with alligator teeth. They love citrus drinks and iced tea as well as Cajun and Caribbean food. They're very attractive and charming and enjoy wearing gold jewelry. However, they're less vain than other children of love/beauty deities and aren't afraid to get their hands dirty due to their connection to swamps. Antheia's children tend to be artsy and creative and are good gardeners. They also tend to be avid environmentalists and conservationists and nature photography is often a hobby. They enjoy visiting New Orleans for Mardi Gras. They get along well with children of other love or nature deities. They often make wreaths to decorate for holidays or to donate to cemeteries for Veteran's Day.

Antheia's children have some healing ability due to their knowledge of plants and herbs. If they're fighting and there are many flowering plants nearby, the demigods can use the pollen to mess with their foes. They're resistant to mosquitoes and can send clouds of them to attack opponents, as well as summon nearby swamp creatures. These demigods can also control any nearby mud in various ways to attack opponents, but swamp mud is especially strong.

A child of Antheia can enter any building that has a wreath hanging on the front door. This only works if the wreath was placed there by an owner of inhabitant of the building. In modern times the practice of honoring the dead with wreaths at their tombs has allowed Antheia to slowly develop a weak connection to the dead. Her children can't summon the dead, but if they visit a grave of someone whose tombstone has a wreath or floral decoration carved on it then they can speak with the person's spirit, though they can't see it.

She is the through-line for the faces to which I most often turn my focus. My practice is centered around the physical world and its representatives, so the earthly epithet of Ἀνθεία encompasses that spirit fairly well.

TLR NG Ideas: Part 3

I made a series of character-building headcanons/ideas for the next-generation characters last year in March, and thought I would finally upload them all! I made them all originally in one long list, but I thought I would break them up into the three main sections I was working on them in. Here is Part 3!

. While mostly a pretty friendly and calm young man, Aster has a hidden temper inside that he has to make sure he keeps in check. This was inherited from his papa Ren, though Aster's temper mainly comes from dealing with bigoted and hateful people as he has no tolerance for those who are so ignorant and cruel to others for no reason. This used to get him into a lot of trouble when he was younger as he had no problem saying what he really wanted to say and even getting into a couple of physical confrontations, but it was Ren who first taught him how to respond appropriately and redirect his energy into his advocacy work instead. Now whenever he feels the biting urge to respond in a less than polite way, he'll take a breath and respond as calmly as he can, while meditating and writing in his journal later to let out his anger there.

. With how both their respective parents became a lot closer as friends over the years, and they are the same age, Aster and Mira have naturally become very close friends. Not only have they seen each other a lot growing up with all their families' visits together, but at first they also bonded over being clay babies as they never really had anyone else to relate with on that or who fully understood what it was like. Both are also very outgoing, curious, and explorative, and often keep each other on their toes with the adventures they get into together. While there were a few different factors that influenced Mira's interest in witchcraft, Aster was a main reason as she has always loved to see the cool spells and magic effects he comes up with whenever she is visiting Erdennia.

. Despite having that golden, "good boy" look and disposition about him, Aster is secretly interested in more of the alternative and androgynous fashion styles. He is inspired from the evolving fashion trends in Erdennia leaning more on the androgynous and gender-neutral side, as there is a lot of cool looks anyone can pull off and he finds it fun to dress up in ways that don't fit with traditional gender norms. His interest in more alternative styles comes from similar reasons such as some fashion trends throughout history, but also from some of the royals from the other kingdoms. He just admires how they still have fun with fashion when not in their traditional royal attire, and aside from him knowing that he wants to get a lot of tattoos in the future, he also wants to get several piercings too.

. While their whole family is unconventional, Silas tends to feel the most out of place in it. This mainly stems from him being adopted, and some unkind people pointing this out to him even when he has expressed he doesn't like it when they bring it up so much. It causes him to feel like he isn't really valued as a genuine member and puts him on edge whenever the whole family is out together, but they do their best to pull him away from that and show him love, while calmly but sternly putting the other person down for making him feel that way and ever suggesting that he isn't a natural part of the family.

. While he has taken to witchcraft like his parents and older brother, he doesn't really practice or focus on nature-based magic like them much. Instead, he focuses more on general magic, practicing any spells but he has expressed interest in more of the 'darker' spells that most non-witches and even some witches fear for their work on the human body. He doesn't like any of the spells that are harmful or deadly to others, but he is morbidly curious to the ones that deal with death, dreams and nightmares, the conscious versus unconscious states, and souls or spirits, as he has started seeing some float by lately.

. While Briar is regarded as the eldest of the Belmonte kids, she, the rest of her siblings, and her parents still acknowledge Rosia's first miscarried baby as a part of the family. It is a sensitive topic in the household around the date of the miscarriage and the child's expectant birthday, but while all feel blessed to be a part of their big family, they still honor the unborn child as a member. Briar herself will often refer to this sibling as the older sibling, and out of her siblings she wonders the most what life would have been like with them in it.

. All of the Belmonte kids have a flower or plant that is most often associated with them(aside from their birth flowers or namesakes), usually their favorite or one that they are just commonly drawn to for one reason or another. For Briar, it is roses, specifically the wild varieties that have more thorns and prickly parts. For Basil, it is begonias. For Thyme, it is any 'scary' plant, but mainly sharp cacti and venus flytraps. For Hazel, it is freesias. For Ivy, it is marigolds. And lastly for Sage, it is violets.

. Most of them are all a few years older than Erdmann kids, but with the closeness between both their parents they have all grown up together. Aster is the closest with Ivy, being best friends with the same compassionate and selfless natures, and as they are the same age they are the ones who have gone through life side-by-side the most. Silas gets along the most with Sage, as they both relate on a lot of things such as not standing out as much as their older siblings, and they both appreciate that they can just be their quiet self around the other with no expectations for big conversations. Antheia is quite a few years younger than all of them and is kind of timid to talk with most, but she does get along the most with Sage, Briar, and Basil.
