Franck Biyong - Moonwatching 2 - new album from Cameroonian guitarist
Franck moves the limitations of African music with Moonwatching II, extending the palette of newer sounds in creative guitar music. As Afropop and Nigeria's Afrobeats are recognized worldwide, African rock is almost missing, although it’s one of the fundaments of Western rock music. Is Franck Biyong the African Jimi Hendrix? Well ... Let’s say it this way: Moonwatching II combines the abrasive sonics of James Blood Ulmer with the melodic structures of early progressive and art-‐rock. So yes, Franck (who by the way never intended to copy Jimi) naturally deals with similar topics and sounds in his music… Driven by eerie melancholy, surreal guitars, ghost voices and strong musicianship, the psychedelic music does not get transfigured through the gentle but clear melodic lines...With Moonwatching II, Franck Biyong swaggers from Funkadelic style rock before leading us to Frippertronics-‐likesound scapes...  CREDITS Cello - Tess Crowther Vocals: Melissa James (2 & 7), Haylen Namvarazad (2 & 6) Drums: Emmanuel Yakobo (3), Gabriel Oladayo (All other tracks) Piano, Fender Rhodes (4), Hammond Organ (2) - Florian Pellissier Electric Bass - Asaph Uzele (1), Antonella Mazza (2, 5, 6 & 7) Ghost voices: Silayio, Emma, Owuor, Haylen, Prisca, Ernest, Tony, Sage, Linda, Brian & other helpful spirits & ghosts Tape Effects, Percussion, Bass (3 & 4), All Guitars - FB

Reflection
Looking through the bibliography from the chapter “Treachery,” I noticed that common key terms within the titles of the sources included Lawrence, Ottoman, Britain, War, Armenia, Zionist, and Palestine. Some of the terms were isolated, others were incorporated among diverse titles. It was interesting noting that simply by observing the bibliography, I could form an idea of what the chapter might discuss. Looking more closely into some of the citations, I noticed that numerous citations were of biographies, memoirs, and letters. Some sources, such as Bond’s (1991) The First World War and British Military History, were systematic scholarly studies, but most sources were either primary, such as T.E. Lawrences’ writings and Antonio de la Cierva’s journal accounting his experiences in late Ottoman Jerusalem as a young diplomat in charge of the Spanish consulate in the city, or they referenced secondary sources that provided primary sources. For instance, the notes section for Anderson’s chapter “Treachery” cited direct quotes from correspondence letters from secondary sources, as exemplified by note 24 from Wilson’s (1990) Lawrence of Arabia: The Authorized Biography of T. E. Lawrence. In some cases, the citations were of specific editors who wrote the introduction such as Bayliss’s “Chronology of the Great War.” Moreover, some of the book references were difficult to find, or were labeled as “hard to find,” suggesting how the subject is perceived and censored within the U.S. Adding to accounting perspectives, Anderson’s bibliography included several sources from different publishers and cultural perspectives covering the same issue or historical event. Overall, it was interesting creating a bibliography from an existing bibliography because it already provides an academic collection of relevant and reliable sources.
