That’s not Jimmy Garoppolo in that pic, that’s Brett Rypien from the Rams 2023 Training Camp. He was #11 last year and he is married. He just got signed to the Chicago Bears. I tried to find some good pics for you guys :)

So in that earlier post we made, the pic is an old one and not Jimmy Garoppolo! He does not have a wedding ring or any other sort of band around that finger.

[ad_1] Getty Images The New York Jets are once again making changes to their quarterback room. According to CBS Sports HQ senior NFL insider Josina Anderson, the Jets are set to release Tim Boyle and sign Brett Rypien off the Seattle Seahawks practice squad. Boyle was elevated to the starting lineup for the Jets' two most recent games, replacing the deposed Zach Wilson. Against the Dolphins and Falcons, Boyle went 41 of 63 for 327 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. He also took eight sacks and fumbled twice. In the latter of those two games, Boyle was pulled in favor of Trevor Siemian, who was serving as the backup ahead of Wilson. On Monday, reports surfaced that the Jets planned to go back to Wilson under center. Now, they are officially moving on from Boyle as well. Rypien has been around the block, bouncing back and forth between the practice squad and the active roster for the Broncos, Rams and Seahawks over the past few seasons. He's made four career starts and completed just 58.3% of his passes at an average of 5.7 yards per attempt, with four touchdowns against nine interceptions. He is, kindly, not the answer.New York's quarterback room has been an epic disaster this season, with Aaron Rodgers tearing his Achilles on just the fourth play of the season opener and then dragging out a potential comeback bid that everyone except for the Jets has acknowledged is not going to happen. Wilson was bad enough in his 10 appearances that he was benched in favor of a player who had thrown just 106 career passes and had eight of them intercepted, and had not shown even during his collegiate career that he was an NFL-caliber quarterback. Meanwhile, players like Joshua Dobbs, Gardner Minshew, Tommy DeVito, Joe Flacco and more have been at least remotely competent in their backup appearances this season. For the Jets to have another season with an excellent defense undermined by calamitous quarterback play is a tremendous failure. Best Week 10 NFL Bets
Tumblr media
As we begin the second half of the NFL season, playoff chases and division races are beginning to take shape. And we now have enough of a sample size to begin seriously evaluating rookie quarterbacks. No. 2 overall pick C.J. Stroud is FOR absolutely real, and this week against Joe Burrow he takes center stage.
Houston Texans at Cincinnati Bengals (-6.5)
The record-holder for most passing yards in a game by a rookie is C.J. Stroud. Last week against the Buccaneers he threw for 470 yards and five touchdowns, in leading the Texans to a last-second win. But that was the Bucs, who are on a four-game losing streak. The Bengals have won four straight, including impressive wins over the 49ers and Bills, and at home they will be too much for Houston. Stroud will continue to grow and impress and lock up the Offensive Rookie of the Year, but the Bengals will win by a touchdown and cover this spread.
Green Bay Packers at Pittsburgh Steelers (-3)
Don’t be fooled by the Packers win over the Rams. That was against backup quarterback Brett Rypien, who was so bad that his job was given to Carson Wentz the next day. The Packers are not a good team. The Steelers might be a good team, but they definitely have a good defense that will force at least one interception out of Jordan Love. T.J. Watt is having a monster year and this Pittsburgh offense does enough to cover the field goal spread.
New York Jets at Las Vegas Raiders (+1)
The Raiders feel liberated now that Josh McDaniels is no longer the head coach, and it showed in last week’s win over the Giants. The only offense in the league even close to being as bad as the Giants belongs to the Jets, and the Raiders defense should have another good game. New York’s defense is elite, but when you have a quarterback like Zach Wilson, that’s not enough. It’s definitely not enough for them to give points. Take the Raiders.
Denver Broncos (+7.5) at Buffalo Bills
The Denver Broncos are on a two-game winning streak, and three games in a row we’ve seen great games out of their defense. They’ve ended the long losing streak against the Chiefs, and once they play this Monday night in Buffalo, the schedule turns favorable. Could Denver go on a run? The Bills have been so up-and-down, that the answer is yes, the Broncos could continue their winning ways this weekend. But even if they don’t win, getting more than a touchdown is too much. Take those points and the Broncos.
Pay Per Head Software
Two more months of college football, three more months of the NFL, and we have full seasons of the NBA and NHL laid out before us. Independent bookmakers, don’t wait another day. With the schedule so packed, now is the time to join forces with a top pay per head software provider. A win is a win
The Green Bay Packers beat the Los Angeles Rams 20-3 today and improved to 3-5 for the season, breaking a four game losing streak. It was far from pretty but it was a win. The Packers’ defense pretty much shut down the woeful Rams’ offense who were starting a backup quarterback. When the Packers’ offense looks better than you you know you have problems.
Quarterback Jordan Love finally had running back Aaron Jones for a full game and it showed. Love still missed a couple of throws he should make, but he was efficient and converted a few key third down plays in the fourth quarter that put the game away. Jones carried the load on offense for the Packers and didn’t seem any worse for the wear afterwards. Only his second fumble of the year marred his performance.
The Packers’ defense did exactly what it was supposed to do, shut down a bad offense. It wasn’t hard to do. Brett Rypien is not really an NFL quarterback. He was awful and all the Packers had to do was force him to throw as there was no way he was going to beat them through the air. It would have been a totally different game with Matthew Stafford at the helm.
But no matter what, the Packers got a desperately needed win. With the Steelers, Chargers, Lions and Chiefs coming up, it might be a while until we see another one. So enjoy this one a while.

Happy birthday Broncos WR Kendall Hinton
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One of my favorite stories of the 2020, aka Covid season, was that time Broncos QBs Drew Lock, Brett Rypien and Blake Bortles were all ineligible to play and they were left with practice squad undrafted, rookie WR Kendall Hinton. Hinton ended up with probably the worst stat line of that year -- like a total of 9 yards of offense and they lost to the Saints 31-3. Still he hung in there the whole game. So here's to you Mr. Hinton 🍻 Happy Birthday!

Well, look at you with the eagle eye! The mods aren’t really sure but we have some guesses… it does seem low to be a ring. And it doesn’t seem to be in the other photo that was posted (3rd image below). One of our mods says it’s in the same area that she gets the worse callous/blister from working out. Take a look for yourself then vote on our poll!

[ad_1] Quarterback Carson Wentz is back in the NFL for the first time since being released by the Commanders in February and he told reporters at a Wednesday press conference that it was "really hard" being at home as the 2023 season unfolded.Wentz said he would speak to his agent every week to find out if anything was happening, but the answer was always no until last week. That's when the Rams called to sign Wentz to replace Brett Rypien as Matthew Stafford's backup. That's not where Wentz's career appeared to be headed after his first couple of seasons with the Eagles, but Wentz said "the NFL has a way of humbling everybody" and the last few years knocked Wentz down several pegs. He said he knows he wasn't good enough with Washington last season to guarantee a future in the league and that's left him thankful of any chance to continue playing football."We all desire to be the guy playing, don’t get me wrong," Wentz said, via the team's website. "I think everyone would be lying to you if they said differently, but we all also know it's hard business, it's hard a league, and just to be on a team, to be around the guys, is a blessing regardless. So I'm thankful for that opportunity, and I'll help in whatever way I can and I'm going to be ready. I don't have to worry about next year, I don't worry about the following years, I can just be where my feet are and have as much fun as I can and help as much as I can."Stafford is set to play this week after missing Week Nine with a thumb injury, but he ended last season on injured reserve and that recent injury history suggests Wentz could get a chance to do more than observe before the year is out. If that's the case, he will have a chance to set himself up for another opportunity to remain in the league in 2024. [ad_2] Source link

The Final Game, Regular Season Game 17
Hawk Valley
Denver Broncos Final Game of Season  Regular Season Game 17  January 8, 2022
Quick Review
First of all, the game against the Chiefs has been flexed from Sunday to Saturday at 2:30 pm mt. The Monday night crew will cover the game.
I don’t usually post the kickoff return stats, but in this game they’re hard to avoid. The Chargers returned two kickoffs for 148 yards. The Broncos didn’t return a kickoff. The Chargers beat the Broncos 34-13.
A longer review
The Broncos kicked off to the Chargers and Andre Roberts, #7, returned it 47 yards to the Los Angeles 45 yard line. It was at this point I knew the Broncos were going to lose the game.
On first down, Austin Ekeler, #30, ran to the right for four yards. On second down Ekeler ran over the right tackle for a gain of six yards. On first down, Justin Herbert’s, #10, pass was incomplete, but there was a flag on the play. Fuller was flagged for pass interference. That penalty moved the ball all the way down to the Denver 28. On first down, Justin Jackson, #22, tried the left side and lost one yard. On second down, Herbert connected with Keenan Allen, #13, on what looked like an inside curl on the left side. Allen gained 10 yards. On third and one, the Chargers called a quarterback sneak and Herbert gained two yards. On first down, Ekeler carried the ball from the 17 yard line to the 3. With 11:49 left in the first quarter, Ekeler ran into the end zone.
From the 25 yard line, Lock connected with Hinton for a gain of 15 yards. Gordon started to the left, but then cut back to the right for a three yard gain on first down. On second down, Lock completed a pass to Gordon for no gain. On third down, Lock scrambled to the left for six yards. Risner was injured on the play. On fourth and one, Gordon ran over the right side for three yards. On first down, Lock slipped and threw a ball that was almost intercepted, but it fell to the ground incomplete. On second down, Gordon picked up seven yards running to the right. Williams started to the right side, dipped inside and lost three yards on third down. With 7:06 left in the first quarter, from the Los Angeles 44 yard line, the Broncos went for it on fourth down and Lock was sacked for a ten yard loss. On this play, Lock slightly injured his shoulder.
The Chargers must have needed a bathroom break, because their next drive was a three and out. On first and third down, Herbert threw incomplete passes. Ekeler picked up two yards running up the middle on second down. The Chargers punted with 6:13 left in the first quarter.
The only thing the Broncos did better than the Chargers on their drive, was that they drew a penalty. It didn’t move the chains though. On first down from the 19 yard line, Lock threw an incomplete pass but there were two flags on the play. Sutton and Asante Samuel Jr., #26, were both flagged for pass interference. On first down, Williams picked up five yards running over the right side. On second down, Lock threw a pass that was almost a pick 6. On third down, Lock backpedaled a bit before he threw an incomplete pass. The Broncos punted with 5:10 left in the first quarter.
From the 35 yard line, Ekeler ran to the left for six yards. The camera caught Lock heading into the locker room. On second down, Herbert threw an incomplete pass. On third down, it was more of the same from Herbert… another incomplete pass. There was a flag on the play, Jackson was called for holding which Denver declined. The Chargers punted on fourth down.
Brett Rypien, #4, came into the game replacing Drew Lock at the 4:11 mark. On first down Fant was flagged for a false start. On first and 15, Gordon started to the left and then cut back into the middle for a gain of five yards. On second down, the Chargers brought pressure up the middle and Rypien threw the ball away, incomplete. On third down, Rypien threw another incomplete pass. With 3:24 left in the quarter, from the one yard line, the Broncos punted.
From the Los Angeles 30 yard line, Ekeler ran to the right for four yards. On second down, Reed pressured and almost sacked Herbert, but the Charger quarterback threw the ball away, incomplete. On third down, Herbert connected with Jackson for an eight yard gain. On first down, Jackson picked up three yards running to the right. With 78 seconds left in the quarter, Herbert rolled to the right and connected with Allen for a ten yard gain. With 43 seconds left, Jalen Guyton, #15, ran to the left for one yard. With 15 seconds left, Ekeler started up the middle and then cut to the left for a gain of six yards. That play ended the first quarter. After one, Los Angeles 7, Denver 0.
When play resumed, Herbert connected with Mike Williams, #81, for an eleven yard gain. On first down, Ekeler ran to the left for nine yards. On second down, Herbert found Josh Palmer, #5, on the right sideline for a gain of eight yards. From the Denver 10 yard line, Jackson ran up the middle for six yards. On second down, Jackson tried to run up the middle again, but he was stuffed. On third down, Herbert completed a pass to Palmer for a gain of three yards. Problems: The fourth quarter
Denver loves to pad the stats in the fourth quarter, so what would their record be if only the fourth quarter counted? Lets take a look.
If only the fourth quarter counted

The Broncos would be 8-7-1 if only the fourth quarter counted. For a majority of the season this table showed the Broncos playing two games at the same time. For the first three quarters the Broncos "followed" the game plan and then in the fourth quarter, they played catch up football. I find it interesting that at the end of the year, there is virtually no difference.

Outlook
Vic Fangio has faced the Chiefs five times as head coach of the Denver Broncos. His defense has given up 140 points to the Chiefs in those games. His offense has only scored 50 points in five games against the Chiefs. The average Vic Fangio vs Andry Reid game looks like this: Vic 10, Andy 28.
This game feels like the last day of school. Everyone has senior-itis. The Denver Broncos want to showcase Drew Lock, so he gets to start. If the Broncos were in the playoffs or 10-6, Teddy Bridgewater would have been the starter. The Chiefs might play hard to get the top seed, but I get the feeling the Broncos are thinking more about tee times and ending leases.

It’s Monday, November 30.
Hey y’all,
Good morning! I hope that everyone had as comforting and relaxing a Thanksgiving long weekend as possible at a time when everything is just absolutely bananas. The main highlight of mine — besides the truly incredible meal that my partner made on Thursday — was that I attempted to give one of our dogs a haircut. I succeeded in that the dog now has less hair than she used to, but failed in that I did not provide her fur with any semblance of coherence. The silver lining is that she has really fluffy hair so you can’t really tell, but if this whole writing thing doesn’t work out, I probably won’t be able to get a job as a dog groomer.

Give It Up for Durham's Own Kendall Hinton
On Saturday, North Carolina saw a record-high 1,840 people hospitalized due to COVID-19 symptoms. That record lasted for exactly one day, because yesterday, 1,885 people across the state were in the hospital because of COVID-19 symptoms. The way this virus spreads is absolutely mind-blowing in an extremely bad way, and to illustrate that fact, I’m going to talk about how a 23-year-old Durhamite named Kendall Hinton ended up playing quarterback for the Denver Broncos in their loss against New Orleans yesterday.
First off, Kendall Hinton went to Southern Durham High School, where he started at quarterback four years in a row and led his team to both a state championship as well as an undefeated season. He then went to Wake Forest, where he served as a backup QB before switching to wide receiver. This spring, he signed with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent, serving as a receiver. He was let go from the team in September, then re-signed with them in early November. Until yesterday, he had never played a second of an NFL game, and when he practiced, he did so as a wide receiver.
So that’s thing one. Thing two is that COVID has really done a number on the NFL this season. Per the New York Times, both the New Orleans Saints and the New England Patriots have earned themselves fines for not following safety protocols, 18 members of the Baltimore Ravens currently have coronavirus, and a county-wide ban on contact sports has left the San Francisco 49ers temporarily without a place to play or even practice.
Oh, and in Denver, third-string quarterback Jeff Driskel contracted coronavirus, then hung out maskless with Broncos’ starter Drew Lock, Lock’s backup Brett Rypien, and the Broncos’ "Break Glass in Case of No Quarterback" quarterback Blake Bortles (of The Good Place fame). All four were ruled ineligible for yesterday’s game on Saturday.
So, with 24 hours to kickoff and zero quarterbacks, the Broncos opted for a system which found running backs Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman taking snaps from the Wildcat formation along with Hinton, who was the sole Bronco to attempt a pass the entire game.
Hinton threw for one completion on eight attempts with two interceptions, and honestly, that’s way better than I would have done. Durham should be proud of Kendall Hinton, because he was presented with an impossible situation — being told he had a single day to prepare for his first NFL game in a position he had not been playing — and, despite the near-guarantee of failure, showed up, tried his best to do what was asked of him, and kept his head held high.
The question, really, is whether the NFL should be happening at all right now. To me, the league’s bull-headed insistence on moving forward is representative of the way that far too many Americans view the virus: as something to be glossed over or ignored altogether, and when actually affected by it, treated as a minor hindrance instead of a life-threatening disease.
Then again, the NFL has for years implicitly told us that it doesn’t care about the physical well-being of its players by minimizing and outright denying the risk that concussions pose to players. I guess we couldn’t have expected anything different from the league other than a grim insistence that the show must go on, no matter how many people get sick.
Just remember that the NFL placing its stars on a collision course with coronavirus is not unique. Tens of thousands of Amazon employees have tested positive for the virus. The nation’s retail workers are forced to potentially expose themselves to COVID on a daily basis, and Black Friday only increased the risks that those folks faced. And in North Carolina, meatpacking companies have deliberately obscured the fact that over the summer, the state had the nation’s highest rate of COVID cases in meatpacking plants. Everyone who works one of these jobs not because they want to but because they have to in order to survive deserves just as much praise as Kendall Hinton does.
Either way, the NFL has barred teams from engaging in in-person activity today and tomorrow, so I’m sure that’ll fix everything. (Hahahahaha just kidding.)
Statewide COVID-19 by the numbers: Sunday, November 29
3,820 New lab-confirmed new cases (361,778 total; seven-day average trending up)
36,343 Completed tests (5.27 million total; most recent positive rate was 8.6 percent)
1,885 Current hospitalizations reported (seven-day average trending up; 5,240 total deaths)
Quick Hits
Noted North Carolina rich guy Fred Eshelmen has learned the hard way that conservative political groups are basically just grifters in pleated pants. After giving an organization called True the Vote $2.5 million with the understanding that the group would put the money towards supporting Donald Trump’s bungling attempt to use the court system to carry out a constitutional coup, Eshelman has filed a lawsuit essentially claiming that True the Vote didn’t actually use his money to do anything. No matter what the Graham, N.C. police does to Rev. Greg Drumwright, he continues to organize protests against the presence of Confederate monuments in the town. [WRAL]
Throughout the state, coronavirus is spreading at higher rates in rural areas than it is in cities. This is a reversal of earlier stages of the pandemic. [WUNC]
In some good news, allow me to present you with the following headline: "Two Turkeys Rescued After Daring Escape from Poultry Trucks in North Carolina." [Greensboro News & Record]
And finally, President-Elect Joe Biden twisted his ankle while playing with his dog. [ABC 11]
Today’s weather: Windy, rainy, and stormy in the morning, cloudy as the day progresses, and cold but clear in the evening. High of 68, low of 35.
Song of the day: "Hounds of Love" by Kate Bush The late cultural theorist Mark Fisher believed that at some point, our sense of time became profoundly warped, the world stagnated, and it had become impossible to both imagine a truly different future and subsequently bring it into being. One of the things he pointed to when making this argument was that it had become seemingly impossible to invent a truly new genre of music and that instead, the creation of pop music had become an act of mixing pre-existing styles and aesthetics rather than fumbling forward in pursuit of original sounds. I guess what I’m trying to say here is that music probably peaked with Kate Bush.
