Happy birthday Broncos WR Kendall Hinton

One of my favorite stories of the 2020, aka Covid season, was that time Broncos QBs Drew Lock, Brett Rypien and Blake Bortles were all ineligible to play and they were left with practice squad undrafted, rookie WR Kendall Hinton. Hinton ended up with probably the worst stat line of that year -- like a total of 9 yards of offense and they lost to the Saints 31-3. Still he hung in there the whole game. So here's to you Mr. Hinton đť Happy Birthday!

GOOD LORD I KNEW THERE WAS A REASON I WAS AVOIDING SOCIAL MEDIA
i hate trade season </3 my heart is in pieces on the floor again
tbh brendan makes sense to trade out as much as it would suck but like we have alan and obv mac (because i refuse to consider it an actual possibility that he gets traded) and its baseball half the team plays at least 3 positions. the whole thing for the rockies is that our pitching staff is as reliable and sturdy as running a madden25 ranked match on that one cousin's grimey ps2 only connected to internet by dial-up. that and the constant more or less vote of no confidence given to literally any vet not a fan favorite. its not a baseball team its a money grab. im one bad day of rockies news from writing myself in as the gm that fixes it all 2012 wattpad style
even if mac does get traded i hope he goes to the damn yanks literally just for the - gather? idk the word for what im thinking and im way too tired to be writing rn - w dj because i would write that fic to hell and then some . . . sideplot bryzzo would go so hard with it . . . . .but also going to a big name bigger wallet team means he's getting recognized as the absolute KING that he is and god knows he more than deserves it. tf you mean chappy got the gold glove ToT not in my heart
anyway we have to stay positive or we collapse so
bo nix looks like the strongest runner in this season's roty campaign and the broncos look really damn good when the defense comes to play nate atkins had a touchdown and whats his name that took chubb's number had a pick. cant stop thinking about holding kirk cousins to field goals. i'm not thinking about justin simmons im not thinking about jerry jeudy im not thinking about drew lock im not thinking about kendall hinton im not thinking about noah fant im not thinking about brandon mcmanus im not thinking about all the guys we've lost since 2015 im not- the javonte touchdown when he was carried into the end zone was hilarious and lives rent free in my mind
the nuggets looked like shit about halfway through won their game tonight and the rumor why joker's out is that his wife is having another baby. vlatko might have reinjured his knee and saric showed up big time. jamal was extra fluffy and adorable even though he kept making bad passes in the 2nd half and made some huge shots. russ was called for the weakest tech ive ever seen cooked and is now the all time nba leader in triple doubles (200) (i think) coach malone was hilarious to watch on the sidelines and is now tied as the nuggets winningest head coach
THE CHIEFS FINALLY FUCKIN LOST TOO
I get trading Brendan. I feel like all of us saw it from mile away honestly, itâs the least surprising thing that would happen this off-season. What would be surprising if we got someone value from him.
However, Mac gets traded I physically do not know what Iâll do with myself. If he gets traded, obviously Iâm gonna want him to win the World Series right away because he deserves it and deserves everything good happen in life and I know him and Judge have been friends since childhood so thereâs that as well that would add a different synergy to the Yankees roster.ďżź
Bestie imma try my best to stay positive this offseason however the nuggets are so iffy that you canât really predict how the seasons gonna go and it seems like we are nothingness without jokic which adds a whole new problem.(also it has been a brought to my attention that Malone shops at my local King Soopers which probably means he lives somewhere close to me, and that scares me) Also, the Broncos are just confusing. They confuse me I donât know how to feel. BUT YOUR RIGHT AT LEAST THE CHEIFS FINALLY FUCKING LOST. ALL HAIL JOSH ALLEN
Anyways, if we trade Mac, I will literally crash out ďżź

Broncos Regular Season Week 13
Hawk Valley
Quick Review
The Broncos lost to the Saints 31-3. Some people described Kendall's passes as lollipops. That doesn't make any sense to me. I would describe them as arcs over the incoming flights to Denver International Airport. After the first Denver drive, the Saints realized what kind of day it was going to be and called off the dogs.
The scoring sequence
In the third quarter, the Broncos had the ball on the 22 yard line. On first down, Gordon ran for 10 yards. On second down, Gordon slipped in the backfield and lost three yards. Fant caught the only completed pass of the day with 11:33 left in the third. Kendall Hinton's pass to Fant gained 13 yards. Lindsay followed that up with a run to the left for no gain. On second down, Hinton's pass was intercepted.
The Saints quarterback threw a pass that was almost intercepted on first down. The Saints quarterback dropped the ball and lost two yards on second down. On third down, the Broncos intercepted his pass.
The Broncos had to keep their running backs fresh, so Freeman came in and ran to the left for four yards on first down. Lindsay was out of the game with a knee injury. Hinton picked up 2 yards on a second down scramble. On third down, the Broncos tried a reverse with Hamler that lost 6 yards. At the 6:56 mark in the third quarter, the Broncos scored their only points of the game on a 58 yard field goal. That is why there will not be a longer review.

During the week
On Monday, the Denver Broncos stated a campaign to complain about their punishment. The Broncos must have issued talking points, because everyone in the media was parroting the same thing. It was unbelievable. If you've ever known someone that has had to talk from prepared statements, this is what that was, but with a vibe of a trial through the media.
The first point the Broncos made, was that the quarterbacks only took their mask off to eat and drink at the facility. The prepared defense, appealing to the common juror, suggested it was like getting a speeding ticket for traveling one mph above the speed limit. OK, they were doing well with their own defense at this point. Drew Lock even wrote a letter of apology. The NFL was just letting the Broncos fall into a trap.
Later in the week, the NFL revealed they had video evidence that the quarterbacks not only did not wear their masks, but they had caught the quarterbacks tampering with the contract tracing devices the NFL requires players to wear this season because of Covid. That ended the debate, but this upset Drew Lock's mom, who then took to social media to defend her son. *allegedly Drew's dad tried to stop her from posting. The Broncos stopped defending their quarterbacks and decided to move on.
I've mentioned it before, but I'll remind you now that the media was growing tired of Drew's responses to questions. Now, Lock was busted for tampering with NFL tracking devices. This led people on sports talk to wonder if anyone could trust Drew Lock. The NFL now has an impression of Drew.
After all of this happened, the "ownership" squabble was back in the news. Someone suggested they are growing tired of the Broncos and want to sell the team, the Bowlen kids however, don't wish to sell at this time...*allegedly. This basically reminded everyone there will be a court case in July about the ownership of the Denver Broncos.
The last thing that happened this week, was that the NFL hall of fame called the Broncos. They want something of Hinton's to put in Canton. The Broncos have agreed to send Hinton's wrist band with all of the plays on it to the HOF. The game where the practice squad receiver, that played one game in the NFL, with less than 24 hours notice... will now be remembered forever.

Outlook
The above stats tell the story of this game. The Chiefs have a great offense and the Broncos do not.
I happened to notice the price of tickets for this game. The starting price, for one ticket, is $320. That makes it the second most expensive ticket in the NFL this week. A ticket to the Packer game will cost you $334.
The Broncos have a chance in this game, if the last week was just part of an elaborate ruse so that the Broncos quarterbacks could have two full weeks to prepare for the Chiefs, but... what are the odds of that being true.
The Last Four Games
The Kansas City Chiefs outscored their opponents by 35 points, 4 wins
The Denver Broncos were outscored by 53 points, 1 win
The Last Two Games
The Kansas City Chiefs outscored their opponents by 7 points, 2 wins
The Denver Broncos were outscored by 21 points, 1 win
Denver's Defense
In week 6, the Denver Broncos played the New England Patriots and they won. Since then both teams have played six games. The Patriots have won three games during this time period, the Broncos two. The Patriot's offense has outscored the Bronco's offense by 11 points during this time. The teams seem to be going in different directions though. The Patriots have been outscored by 25 points, but the Broncos have been outscored by 79. In other words, the Pats have been losing by about a field goal, the Broncos have been losing by about 2 touchdowns. I mention this because the defense gets a ton of praise for playing well.

Itâs Monday, November 30.
Hey yâall,
Good morning! I hope that everyone had as comforting and relaxing a Thanksgiving long weekend as possible at a time when everything is just absolutely bananas. The main highlight of mine â besides the truly incredible meal that my partner made on Thursday â was that I attempted to give one of our dogs a haircut. I succeeded in that the dog now has less hair than she used to, but failed in that I did not provide her fur with any semblance of coherence. The silver lining is that she has really fluffy hair so you canât really tell, but if this whole writing thing doesnât work out, I probably wonât be able to get a job as a dog groomer.

Give It Up for Durham's Own Kendall Hinton
On Saturday, North Carolina saw a record-high 1,840 people hospitalized due to COVID-19 symptoms. That record lasted for exactly one day, because yesterday, 1,885 people across the state were in the hospital because of COVID-19 symptoms. The way this virus spreads is absolutely mind-blowing in an extremely bad way, and to illustrate that fact, Iâm going to talk about how a 23-year-old Durhamite named Kendall Hinton ended up playing quarterback for the Denver Broncos in their loss against New Orleans yesterday.
First off, Kendall Hinton went to Southern Durham High School, where he started at quarterback four years in a row and led his team to both a state championship as well as an undefeated season. He then went to Wake Forest, where he served as a backup QB before switching to wide receiver. This spring, he signed with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent, serving as a receiver. He was let go from the team in September, then re-signed with them in early November. Until yesterday, he had never played a second of an NFL game, and when he practiced, he did so as a wide receiver.
So thatâs thing one. Thing two is that COVID has really done a number on the NFL this season. Per the New York Times, both the New Orleans Saints and the New England Patriots have earned themselves fines for not following safety protocols, 18 members of the Baltimore Ravens currently have coronavirus, and a county-wide ban on contact sports has left the San Francisco 49ers temporarily without a place to play or even practice.
Oh, and in Denver, third-string quarterback Jeff Driskel contracted coronavirus, then hung out maskless with Broncosâ starter Drew Lock, Lockâs backup Brett Rypien, and the Broncosâ "Break Glass in Case of No Quarterback" quarterback Blake Bortles (of The Good Place fame). All four were ruled ineligible for yesterdayâs game on Saturday.
So, with 24 hours to kickoff and zero quarterbacks, the Broncos opted for a system which found running backs Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman taking snaps from the Wildcat formation along with Hinton, who was the sole Bronco to attempt a pass the entire game.
Hinton threw for one completion on eight attempts with two interceptions, and honestly, thatâs way better than I would have done. Durham should be proud of Kendall Hinton, because he was presented with an impossible situation â being told he had a single day to prepare for his first NFL game in a position he had not been playing â and, despite the near-guarantee of failure, showed up, tried his best to do what was asked of him, and kept his head held high.
The question, really, is whether the NFL should be happening at all right now. To me, the leagueâs bull-headed insistence on moving forward is representative of the way that far too many Americans view the virus: as something to be glossed over or ignored altogether, and when actually affected by it, treated as a minor hindrance instead of a life-threatening disease.
Then again, the NFL has for years implicitly told us that it doesnât care about the physical well-being of its players by minimizing and outright denying the risk that concussions pose to players. I guess we couldnât have expected anything different from the league other than a grim insistence that the show must go on, no matter how many people get sick.
Just remember that the NFL placing its stars on a collision course with coronavirus is not unique. Tens of thousands of Amazon employees have tested positive for the virus. The nationâs retail workers are forced to potentially expose themselves to COVID on a daily basis, and Black Friday only increased the risks that those folks faced. And in North Carolina, meatpacking companies have deliberately obscured the fact that over the summer, the state had the nationâs highest rate of COVID cases in meatpacking plants. Everyone who works one of these jobs not because they want to but because they have to in order to survive deserves just as much praise as Kendall Hinton does.
Either way, the NFL has barred teams from engaging in in-person activity today and tomorrow, so Iâm sure thatâll fix everything. (Hahahahaha just kidding.)
Statewide COVID-19 by the numbers: Sunday, November 29
3,820 New lab-confirmed new cases (361,778 total; seven-day average trending up)
36,343 Completed tests (5.27 million total; most recent positive rate was 8.6 percent)
1,885 Current hospitalizations reported (seven-day average trending up; 5,240 total deaths) Â
Quick Hits
Noted North Carolina rich guy Fred Eshelmen has learned the hard way that conservative political groups are basically just grifters in pleated pants. After giving an organization called True the Vote $2.5 million with the understanding that the group would put the money towards supporting Donald Trumpâs bungling attempt to use the court system to carry out a constitutional coup, Eshelman has filed a lawsuit essentially claiming that True the Vote didnât actually use his money to do anything. [News & Observer]
No matter what the Graham, N.C. police does to Rev. Greg Drumwright, he continues to organize protests against the presence of Confederate monuments in the town. [WRAL]
Throughout the state, coronavirus is spreading at higher rates in rural areas than it is in cities. This is a reversal of earlier stages of the pandemic. [WUNC]
In some good news, allow me to present you with the following headline: "Two Turkeys Rescued After Daring Escape from Poultry Trucks in North Carolina." [Greensboro News & Record]
And finally, President-Elect Joe Biden twisted his ankle while playing with his dog. [ABC 11]
Todayâs weather: Windy, rainy, and stormy in the morning, cloudy as the day progresses, and cold but clear in the evening. High of 68, low of 35. Â
Song of the day: "Hounds of Love" by Kate Bush The late cultural theorist Mark Fisher believed that at some point, our sense of time became profoundly warped, the world stagnated, and it had become impossible to both imagine a truly different future and subsequently bring it into being. One of the things he pointed to when making this argument was that it had become seemingly impossible to invent a truly new genre of music and that instead, the creation of pop music had become an act of mixing pre-existing styles and aesthetics rather than fumbling forward in pursuit of original sounds. I guess what Iâm trying to say here is that music probably peaked with Kate Bush.

Broncos Week 12 Postgame - No QBs in Blowout Loss to Saints
About This Sports Courier Denver Broncos Postgame Press Conference: Denver Broncos quarterback (sort of) Kendall Hinton and head coach Vic Fangio chat with media about the team's 31-3 blowout loss to the New Orleans Saints in Week 12, the absolutely insane quarantine situation with all QBs including Drew Lock being ruled out per NFL safety protocols after NOT WEARING MASKS, and how they plan on bouncing back in Week 13 against the defending Super Bowl champion (10-1) Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football. Footage courtesy of and provided by the Denver Broncos organization and media site.

The Broncosâ Quarterback-Less Game Was More Sad Than Amusing âMan, this is great.â Thatâs how color analyst Mark Schlereth started us off on Sunday over an image of emergency quarterback (and former practice squad wide receiver) Kendall Hinton before kickoff of a Saints-Broncos game.

You may remember Kendall Hinton -- he was the poor kid the Broncos played at quarterback in Week 12 when all of their regular QB's were benched due to COVID protocols.
That game he only managed 9 yards passing đŽ and got knocked around pretty bad, but apparently still wants to play somehow somewhere.

Broncos Regular Season Week 12
Hawk Valley
During the week
I have moved this segment to the top of the page because some very important news dropped on Saturday the 28th. Driskel, a Denver Bronco quarterback tested positive for Covid on Thursday. Before Saturday's practice, the NFL notified the Broncos that due to contact tracing, Drew Lock, Brett Rypien and Blake Bortles are to be identified as high risk Covid contacts and that they are ineligible to participate in the game against the New Orleans Saints. The NFL requires that they enter a five day quarantine period. All three have tested negative for Covid, but Driskel could be a super spreader.
THE DENVER BRONCOS WILL PLAY THE GAME AGAINST THE SAINTS WITHOUT ANY OF THEIR QUARTERBACKS.
Running back Freeman is the emergency quarterback during normal times.
Desperate times
The Denver Broncos actually tried to convince the NFL to let one of their coaches play quarterback for this game. The Broncos offered up Rob Calabrese, who ran the offense during practice on Saturday. He played quarterback at Central Florida back in 2008-2010. He threw 12 touchdown passes and 7 picks. In 2012, he was the "wildcat" quarterback/wide receiver.
The second coach the Broncos offered up is Justin Rascati. He played quarterback for Louisville in 2003 and at James Madison from 2004-2006. He threw 51 touchdown passes with only 6 picks.
The NFL told the Broncos they could not activate any of their coaches for the game today.
The Broncos then promoted undrafted, rookie and practice squad wide receiver Kendall Hinton to the starting quarterback role. He played quarterback for Wake Forest. There are conflicting reports on this, but he hasn't played quarterback since 2015 or 2017. The Broncos waived him on September 5, but resigned him to the practice squad on November 4.
The Broncos also have a quarterback nobody is talking about, Riley Neal from Vanderbilt.
The quarterback coach for the Denver Broncos is Mike Shula. He has 29 years of experience.
The Broncos also announced they signed Garett Bolles to a four year, 69 million dollar contract.
Quick Review
Last week, the Broncos beat the Dolphins 20-13. I know, I'm as shocked as you are. The Broncos played OK on offense, defense and special teams.
A longer review
Miami took the opening kickoff, gained four yards and then punted. The Broncos opening play was a run by Lindsay for no gain. Lock threw an incomplete pass on second down. At the 13:03 mark in the first quarter, Lock threw an interception.
Miami had the ball at the 22 yard line. On first down, they ran for four yards. On second and six, Justin Simmons intercepted a pass from their quarterback, but Denver was called for holding. Miami then ran for 7 yards on first down. After Miami picked up another first down, a wide receiver caught the ball in the end zone for a Dolphin touchdown.
The next two drives by both Denver and Miami ended in punts. When Denver got the ball back, Lock rolled out on first down and threw an incomplete pass. Lock tossed his trademark pass on second down. On third down, he connected with Hamler for a 14 yard gain. Lock completed a pass to Fant on first down, but Fant stepped out of bounds after picking up two yards. On second down, Lindsay ran for twenty yards. After two first down attempts were canceled by penalties, Lindsay lost 2 yards. On second and 22, Lock connected with Jeudy for a 9 yard gain. Lock then scrambled for 15 yards and a first down. Gordon ran for 9 yards on first down. Vannett gained 15 yards through the air on second down. On first and goal from the one yard line, Gordon ran up the middle for a Bronco touchdown. The Broncos tied the game with 1:34 left in the first quarter.
On the next Dolphin drive, their quarterback was sacked for an eight yard loss on second down. They punted on fourth down.
Lindsay ran for two yards as the first quarter ended. The score at the end of the first quarter was 7-7. Lindsay gained three yards to start the second quarter. On third and five, Lock completed a pass to Hamler for a gain of 4 yards and after the catch, Hamler's body was bent in an odd fashion on the tackle. On fourth down and a yard short of the first down, Denver elected to punt.
The next Miami drive consisted of a 3 yard gain, followed by a 3 yard loss, followed by an incomplete pass. They punted with about 12 minutes left in the half.

Outlook
This will be an interesting game. I have no idea what to expect from Denver. 40 running attempts?
For the trends that follow, it should be noted that the starting quarterback for the Saints, Drew Brees, was injured in week 9 and although he was the starting quarterback for game 10, he did not finish the game. The Saints expect him to return in week 15.
The Last Four Games

Another request! This time about the infamous outlaw couple that were made in America (although perhaps not in a valley of silicon). Frank Wildhorn musicals tend to be hit or miss for me, and Bonnie & Clyde is pretty firmly on the âhitâ side so I hope I did it justice with this cast.
