Concerned best friend hot on her heels, Temperance Brennan strode towards her computer and peered at the screen.

"I'm telling you, sweetie, it's okay to be torn up about Booth and his cutie reporter."

Diverting her attention from verifying the results of a fractured ulna, Brennan looked up. "Yes, I know in times when a woman loses a prospective mate, it's customary to enter a period of mourning. You've referred to that period as 'cry-your-heart-out' before. While I recognize it's useful for many women in contemporary society, I find no need to engage in that period. I am simply happy for him to have found a suitable partner."

Angela sighed. "Brennan, being happy for him doesn't mean you can't also be sad for yourself. You lived your life in that will-they won't-they for years. And he's not doing that with you anymore."

"I'm not sure what "will-they won't-they" means in this context, but I can say with certainty that I am quite pleased by Booth's choice in romantic partner."

She shook her head in disbelief. "C'mon, Bren! Surely that makes it worse! She's the whole enchilada: hot, driven, funny, and did I mention hot? I've even had to tug on Hodgins chain to keep him from slobbering all over her." She collected herself. "The point is, sweetie, that it's okay to be hurt, okay?"

Brennan's smile had widened with Angela's description of her rival, and she inclined her head. "I agree; she posses excellent attributes, including a very symmetrical face and an aesthetically pleasing female musculature." Brennan increased her nod, appreciative. "She must keep a very reasonable diet and exercise routine."

As Brennan went on, Angela felt her face slide into a familiar expression halfway between incredulity and a wince. "Yeah, I'm sure she does, honey. Just know I'm here for you."

Brennan had already redirected most of her focus to the ulna. "Oh, don't worry; I do."

After leaving her hopeless friend, Angela was set up in her own office, but even a half hour on, something was bothering her, something lingering from that conversation.

She knew Brennan, and she knew that no matter how many walls she'd built, she wouldn't just be okay with Booth seriously dating, let alone be genuinely enthusiastic.

She pictured Brennan in her mind's eye. Discussing Hannah, Bren's shoulders had relaxed while her eyes widened with sincerity. That was pretty typical Brennan emphasis posture. It often leaked a whisper of hurt Brennan was repressing, but. It didn't. Not today.

Her eyes...

Something about her eyes.

While discussing Hannah's "symmetry" and "musculature," those eyes had a little oomph, a little spark. Her eyes had these little zings of excitement.

Wait, excitement? Rewind.

The image in her head wavered, then snapped into place.

Angela's jaw dropped.

No way.

That wasn't excitement. At least, not the same excitement Brennan emanated while discovering the origins of an ancient microfracture. Not the scientist's excitement, oh no.

This was 5 drinks deep, pointing out a hot 6 pack across the club kind of excitement.

This was relaying Hacker's significant dinner charms kind of excitement.

This. Was bragging about Booth excitement.

Her girl had a crush.

On her soulmate's girlfriend.

And suddenly, Angela was tingling with possibilities.

I am still reeling from that fic because like

If Booth and Hannah took care of Brennan after The Doctor in the Photo. Booth is majorly on the defensive. Yes he cares, but his walls are up and because he can’t bring himself to do anything he perceives as betraying Hannah, he’s incredibly standoffish. He can’t bring himself to comfort Brennan.

Only Hannah doesn’t care about any of that. She cares that Brennan hasn’t slept in days, that she nearly got herself killed, that she’s teetering over the edge of a major breakdown and too isolated, whether by her own alienation of the people around her or by Booth’s intentional abandonment of her.

Hannah’s the one who pulls her into bed. Booth can sleep on the couch for all she cares. Brennan needs to be held, to know she’s not alone in the world, to know she is loved. Hannah physically and verbally expresses all the tender worry that Booth refuses to even acknowledge in himself.

Hannah calls Angela first thing in the morning, they all take the day off work and drag Brennan around to a spa day and an early dinner and an early bed time. They will make sure she will be okay.

What role Booth takes in all that is up to him. Monogamy, gender rules, the line that can’t be crossed, those are all things that only he’s abiding by. How long will he stand by the rigid rules of Correct Manly, Catholic Behavior, instead of accepting the love around him?

Lowkey the ep where Booth proposes to Hanna has to be his lowest. It is the ep where i actually disliked him. First of all, he decided to propose after he saw that Sweets was going to propose. And ypu could just see that his motivation wasnt love, it was desperation, fear of loneliness and hurt that B didnt want him. And then when he proposes out of nowhere to H (they ve been dating for a year i think? And i think he knew that she didnt family and marriage?), he is upset and angry at H. Pt1

Fricking Sweets!! He’s the one who started the mess that led to the Hannah era by encouraging Booth to be the gambler and go for it with Brennan when she wasn’t ready!! Literally the Hannah era can be blamed on Sweets.

You’re right, Booth and Hannah were together for a year. We didn’t see onscreen Hannah tell Booth she didn’t want to be married etc, but she said she told him after said proposal. Clearly Booth wasn’t listening.

Hannah CLEARLY told him at some point. Yet he still did it anyways.

The throwing the ring in the water was also a childish move too. Seriously?

I was so mad that he essentially took it out on Brennan. It’s not her fault he was dumb and didn’t listen! She was trying to help him!! Yet, he threatened to find her a new FBI guy if she walked out. That is no way to treat a friend who is trying to help you.

I wasn’t a fan of Booth through the whole Hannah era, but the proposal episode was the worst character wise for him.

honestly i liked Booths gf, Hannah. a lot, she fits Booth and the team well and even becomes Brennans friend. i cant believe they just wrote her off suddenly and we never see her after Booth and her break up

having squinterns makes sense, especially rotating them. or at least more sense than only Zack and then Dr. Zack in the lab, why would you need 2 forensic anthropologists? especially when one is far superior. also with an intern, it makes sense for Bones to basically do the least in the lab and relay information to Booth. instead of like NCIS where Gibbs basically does nothing and runs around threatening people and ordering sit reps from the team

Funniest character: okay so the thing is. i think brennan is pretty funny when she's trying not to be (and also when she does try (sometimes)) and i think booth is funny but mostly when he gives everyone nicknames like calling hodgins bug boy idk it's just very funny to me also clark?? but also . i can't choose ellie why are you making me choose

Best-looking character: oh highkey cam when she doesn't have her fuck ass bob. but like !!! sorry i know this is not the purpose of the game but idc obviously also brennan in legit every episode i've seen so far especially when she wears red or purple blazer, also when she wore that green outfit??? i dont remember what it was but i remember screaming in your dms sjdjf also angela in every dress ever ALSO special mention to hannah burkley i love a lot and who is so so pretty goddamn.

Reason why I watch it: it's my current hyperfixation it is SO good it's a crime show with a consulant what do u think i'm gonna do?? not get obessed with it? no but actually, it's sooo good and it's an interesting view on crimes and also history you usually don't get in media!! *slaps bones* this show can fit so much neurodivergence in it !!

Why I started watching it: it's been kind of a bumpy road cause i started it like four times before i was like this is great tv but it was definitely due to @constellationclarke cause we watched bones when we met up last year <3 and then also you ellie for making the whole watching experience so much fun <3
