We’re home and resting from the whirlwind of a weekend we just had, and we wanted to take a minute to talk about the wonderful time that was Breakout Con!

This was not only our first time at a convention as guests and Nevyn’s first time running games at a con, but our first time travelling outside the US together! Toronto was awesome, a cool city filled with great food that we’re both still thinking about.

We got to meet a lot of amazing people, some long-time friends and others brand new. We also picked up a lot of awesome games & new things to read~

Nevyn ran 2 games of You’re In Space and 1.5 games of Justicar~ It’s easy to forget how fun your own games are, but every player was an absolute standout and each game had its own incredible highs!

We talked to so many brilliant people, and had some really great conversations that I’ll be thinking about for quite a while! Huge thanks to Breakout Con for inviting us to attend, and to everyone we got to talk to. Can’t wait to keep chatting, and we hope to go again next year :)

Simplicity Top

In March, 2019, I went to Toronto for BreakoutCon. While I was there, I went for a nice walk in the rain and bought 2 balls of pink variegated fingering-weight yarn (Knitting Fever Painted Desert in color 104: Rosefield). I put them in the stash and periodically thought about what I might want to make with them. Sometimes I was tempted to just pull them out and make Yet Another Shawl Already, but…

A great GM can only craft an amazing tabletop RPG experience with the help of great players. A discussion of how to be one of those players, improving the at-table experience for both yourself and everyone else. Includes discussions on roleplaying technique, communal storytelling, and how experienced players can help welcome new players into the hobby.

The ever-lovely Jason Pitre recorded and cleaned up a few of the panels I was on at Breakoutcon 2017, including this one. This was the panel topic I proposed to the convention, and I really enjoyed the chance to talk about it with a bunch of other clever game making people.

And that's another BreakoutCon done! 3 days of TTRPGs and Battletech with Focht's Network.

Managed to sell 5 print copies of Beam Saber and 3 zines which is pretty good.

Ran 2 sessions of Beam Saber and while one ended up as a one on one game it was still great and the other went super smoothly.

There was a surprising amount of swag for GM volunteers this year! Got these fancy dice plus a book!

I can't wait for next year!
