Koopaling Headcanons: Larry
Larry | Morton | Wendy | Iggy | Roy | Lemmy | Ludwig
Everyone's favorite little brother and general pest for plumbers! He's just a lil' rascal.
Right handed.
His love of tennis originally started as a way to stand out from his siblings, but eventually, he really enjoyed the sensation of playing.
He became a big fan of a Horse Girl animated show after the Olympics, but is super embarrassed about it and won't tell anyone because he thinks it wrecks his ‘cool guy’ image.
Red-green colorblind.
He likes painting with Bowser Jr, and he's a decent comic artist, but he's pretty shy about showing people his work, partially stemming from feeling inferior to Ludwig.
Hypoglycemic. Combine that with his age and his tennis hobby, this boy burns through glucose like a powder trail. It's also partially why he eats so much.
Very much a visual learner, as he tunes out if people tell him things without example, and gets frustrated if asked to try and do something on his own / with his hands and zero instruction.
A frighteningly good pickpocket. He once had a conversation with Bowser and managed to take off all five of his spiked cuffs in three minutes. It's only when he returned them did Bowser even realize they were gone.
He's a big fan of milkshakes, especially chocolate ones. Also a big fan of blowing his straw wrapper at his siblings before he drinks, and blowing bubbles in his drink if he's thinking.
Favorite breakfast food is waffles, with butter, syrup, chocolate chips, and fruit.
Can beatbox almost anything, and he's learning how to breakdance, too. He likes looking up tutorials and practicing in his room for both the space and privacy.
He does gaming streams in his free time, mostly online team-based games or RPGs that let you sink hours of play into useless but fulfilling sidequests. Gaming companies love him because they’ll get guaranteed sales if they offer a trial.
Has a pretty good head for directions, but only for cities. If you tell him you need to find a building from a particular place, he'll give you precise instructions on where to go. Highways and roadmaps are a completely different story.
That said, he got lost so often as a kid that Ludwig gifted him a compass, and he carries it with him constantly.
Not really a flower person, but ever since he got an anonymous bouquet of them, he's got a small appreciation for forget-me-nots.
He's a big fan of punk rock bands, and would love to attend a concert (and be a professional rockstar).
Favorite fruit is either strawberries or pears, but one of his favorite treats is caramel apples.
He’s got a leather jacket that's got a big star bedazzled on the back. It’s his prized possession because he thinks it makes him look cool (and it does, marginally).
Saw a flyer for a new DJ at the Electrodrome and applied on a whim. He got hired (much to his surprise), and greatly enjoys his work. In fact, his time learning the electronics is what inspired his light company.
Likes watching baking and cooking shows with Morton, but while Morton watches to improve and get ideas for recipes, Larry watches to yell at the contestants, because what the FUCK, Michael!!!!! Don’t put your custard on a high temperature, it!!! Is going!!!!!! To curdle!!!!!!!!!!!!
Legitimately has a very good palate for food, and can point out individual flavors where others can't. He will also visit a five-star restaurant and order chicken tenders off the kids menu.
One of his favorite things to do when he was a kid was hiding around the castle and pretending he was a spy; listening in on conversations and writing them down, coming up with codes, always carrying a walkie-talkie, the works. It started his earlier pictographic babble, and what lead him to being such a sneakster later on.
Can and will cheat outrageously at any card, board, dice, or wheel game. Not at video games, though. Those are sacred. That and laser tag.
Looooves chocolate, especially fudge. Do not let him get anywhere near fudge.
He was a shark kid growing up. He dreamed of visiting the aquarium for his birthday, and when he finally got to do so, came home with an armload of various shark plushies and memorabilia.
A big fan of giving and receiving nicknames. Bowser once called him ‘blueberry’ and he cried about it for like seven minutes.
He’s got an admiration for Princess Daisy, for both her fearless attitude and tennis skills.
Favorite candy is gummy worms, but is really fond of sour stuff, too, along with super sugary energy drinks.
Loves sci-fi books / comics and mecha anime with Iggy, but personally loves the adventure genre with pirates and treasure hunters and wild westerns.
Has a private stash of snacks he keeps hidden in rotation for both late night munchies and keeping away from his siblings.
Genuinely likes cooking, but baking feels too precise for him. That said, he's more then happy to taste the end results of both.
Likes going skating with Wendy and Lemmy. He keeps trying complicated moves and keeps running into the walls.
Runs a recipe blog that doubles as a restaurant critique and rating site. It's gotten surprisingly popular.

[7:27 pm]
(cw: alcohol mentions, “assholes”)
You never thought you would willingly be back at work during your time off. Even less, if someone were to tell you the assholes in marketing would be drunk and doing body shots. So here you were standing in the lobby of your workplace, glass of wine in hand, watching your coworkers act like they had never been in public. If you were acting like they were, you’d never show your face in the building again. You were getting secondhand embarrassment just watching them.
You sighed and took a sip of wine from your glass, the clock on the wall told you that you had only been here for an hour. If you went home now, it would be the perfect time to just say the party had been lame, but you were unfortunately a head of department so people would notice you being gone. What was the best way to get out of here?
“I can see the cogs in your brain turning,” You heard someone mumble behind you.
You jumped in shock, the wine glass almost falling from your hand before turning to see who it was, “Oh! Mr. Kim, I didn’t see you there, I’m so sorry.”
He laughed with a bright smile, “Please, I’ve told you countless times. Just Doyoung is fine.”
You blushed and nodded looking at the strobe lights as more and more people began to dance. You saw some girls from your floor taking shots at the bar, the guys you chatted with on your way to the printer were trying to do the worm, and even the head of IT was leading the conga line. And here you were, staring at the crowd, warm and shy with the freaking CEO standing right next to you. From the corner of your eye you could see he was doing the same as you and laughing occasionally at the crazy antics of his employees.
You had known Doyoung for many years now. He had been on the panel you interviewed with and been a major part in your early days of the company. As head of the Sales department you worked very closely with him, which didn’t help you at all. Doyoung was always nice to you, and never acted as your superior in a cocky, holier-than-thou way. He stopped by your office regularly with coffee and “urgent” matters which were never really urgent. Usually he would stop by with that as a cover and you would just chat to get to know each other. How could you not have a crush on him? He was kind, hard working, and handsome. Especially now, he had ditched his suit jacket and was showing off his loosened holiday tie and red cheeks from the wine he had been sipping on.
“Are you having a good time?” He asked you, his eyes still locked on the dance floor. Someone had just started a dance circle by attempting to breakdance.
You pulled on a fake smile, “Oh absolutely! This party has been the best holiday party I’ve come to in all my years here!”
Doyoung laughed heartily, clutching his stomach while some wine splashed out of his glass. “You’re lying, I can see it on your face.” Damn, he was cute when he laughed.
You took a deep pull of your wine, “What gave it away?”
“Before I came over here, the look on your face was one of pure judgement and boredom. You know this party wasn’t mandatory right?”
“I had no other plans on a Friday night, and I really was looking forward to it, but you know how this week was.” The week had been a long one. You had all had to work extra hard to keep a long time client from partnering with a competitor and on top of that you had end of year sales reports due in just a few days. Those were always a major pain, but add your own to checking all the rest of the sales team and you got a stressful, tiring week.
Doyoung nods and stares at silently for a moment, “I really appreciate you still coming despite how hard the week was for all of us. You’re a great head of department and a real asset to our company. I love your dedication and love spending time with you.”
You set your wine glass aside on a table, “One of those statements is not like the other, Mr. CEO.”
“Too much wine I guess,” he cleared his throat, “but I did mean it.”
You smile at him softly, it’s now or never, “I love your dedication and spending time with you too.”
He smiled excitedly and calmed it down after a few breaths and likely remembering he was at a company party and HR is always watching, “Can I get you another drink? Maybe we can walk around and chat for a bit?”
“Yes, I’d really like that.”
And yes, both your assistants did notice you both laughing and flirting in the corner of the room while Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’ was playing. They clinked their glasses to that before downing another shot.

Here are my own Addison/Spamton headcannons to add on! :]
(buckle up cause I got a lot)
If Spamton tries to talk about personal memories that he tried very hard to bury, (like his puppitfication), he physically cant. If he talks about a memory that overwhelms him his body would spaz out in glitches and error signs. (kinda like a system crash)
I feel like if the Adds were to get the grasp of healing magic, the first one to perfect it would be Clicks. (bc he already makes tea that heals you!)
Sponsor owns a motorcycle! (because they thought it made them look cool) And regularly takes it out for a spin when he's done with work for the day.
Survey is a secret horror fan, and when having movie nights with the other adds, they would always recommend horror movies that they personally like.
I feel like Banner really focused on clothing after Spamton went missing, (he only really did this as a side hustle/hobby beforehand) as it was a good distraction and a way to cope, and he found out he was really good at it! And made it his primary business.
When an addison gives a gift with no underlying intention/price tag attached, it is seen as a sign of a genuine friendship, familial, or courtship relations, (like when they all gifted Spamton the new phone) as all addisons are selfish in nature
Clicks 1000000000% cried at the Barbie movie and has a poster of her in his room lololol
Sponsor absolutely LOVES those shitpost videos on TikTok, like that smurf-cat that's been trending recently? his feed is FULL of videos like that
Its hard for Spamton to open up for a variety of reasons, because he HATES it when people give him pity, he's been dealing with that his whole life, and knows that bigshot's don't get those looks.
Along with fashion, Banner is CRAZY good at makeup, and that's when he and Clicks have most of their gossip sessions when doing Clicks makeup when they're hanging out together
Survey has a soft spot for holiday seasons (not just because of shopping sales and spike and sales, cause all addisons are scrambling when october hits,) but also because it's a time they feel all warm and fuzy with their family :]
To add on to the motorcycle thing, Banner was very against Sponsor getting one, as he heard about horror stories on those "death traps" (his words)
to add on to the one above, Sponsor didn't wear a helmet once, (cause he only needed to go like, a street down to grab something,) and Banner gave him HELL. bro went on a whole rant about Bike saftey and Sponsor always wore a helmet after that incident (a mad banner is very scary! cause i hc that he always keeps his chill) (Banner is not beating mom friend allegations)
Jevil LOVES messing with Clicks the most, as he's the drama queen, and his reactions are hilarious cause he HATES the clown. Jevil will do things like change his wallpaper, take secret selfies, or just flat out jumpscare him because it never gets old...
Sponsor is a BEAST at Just Dance, like, bro is doing breakdancing for every single song, and he WILL make EVERYONE do the dances correctly, (as clicks likes to half-ass it by just moving the controller correctly)
Banner is the strongest physically out of all the addisons. Y'know like, that punching bag game in arcades where the harder you punch the bag the more points you get? Banner DEMOLISHED that, and has one of the highest scores still.
Clicks secretly plays dating sim games as a guilty pleasure
also have you seen eviction day yet? If not, I HIGHLY reccomend! I will add a warning for flashing lights and disturbing imagry though, https://youtu.be/fzzGtz4v3YU?si=6-AD5j8qrGARbdM3
but yea! here are my silly lil headcannons for the silly lil guys :]
i'm incredibly happy with the energy we've created in the studio today
also known as omg i love these headcanons like this is great food hfjdksjdjdks
the first one i also share! and it's a bit of why i headcanon swatch feels distant from spamton out of everybody he talks to. Like they were rlly close at one point and talked a lot, and swatch was his shoulder at high stress points in his job. However when the Horrors happened, he physically couldn't explain anything, leaving swatch to wonder what exactly happened to him and then build up resentment for keeping them in the dark. They even tried to help at first, but help turned to hate real fast when neo got involved.
i love the idea over clicks and spamton maybe bonding over some healing magic, like i had something similar in mind for a future chapter but this rlly has me smiling at the possibilities. spamton would maybe give him some tips- for a price. He IS thinking about trying to capitalize the whole healing gig after all since he's good at it.
banner going into clothing after spamton disappeared makes sense, especially with keeping busy trying to forget about him (it's awful hard to with the mannequins looking the way they do, but maybe that's a good thing in the long run) also i adore the mom friend vibe these headcanons have about him. i'd love to add on to the helmet thing, as I feel Clicks would join him on this (he's protective) but sponsor (and maybe even survey) claims it's fine if it was just once.
i completely agree with surv and the holidays. honestly i feel like they're the most ambitious with holiday sales and are unmatched, kind of peaking during seasonal sales in general (seeing how many survey ads are in place when customer shopping is at an all time high). spamton was indifferent to the holiday craze (cuz even when addisons were at their busiest, he wasn't) but liked when everything settled down after they weren't as busy to talk with him again. I have a picture in mind of survey chilling with spamton and realizing this, how happy he is when they're not busy (and feeling as if he was supposed to be), and being happy in return, if not sympathetic to him.
jevil pranking the adds and being a general nuisance is just so funny to me. gosh i can just imagine the absolute chaos he'd bring to a tea shop, mixing up the names and flavors, upon the other things (especially the wallpaper that has me cracking up with ideas). spamton, at the request (and payment) of clicks, gets jevil to stop (maybe. it's unclear if hes actually stopped completely or if there's smaller pranks here and there) but he secretly finds it hilarious.
overall these headcanons are great and i'm so happy to see them shared
#ALSO i haven't seen eviction day yet! This is the first i'm hearing about it so i'll give it a look :D#there's so many of them and i'm eating each and every one <3#i'd add on to everything if i could but i feel like my add ons are long enough lmao srry#when i get talking about this feral lil beast of a character i cannot stop thinking and thinking#thank you so much for the brain food i love these#i lowkey wanna write a clicks and banner makeup sesh now#maybe as a one shot or something#maybe they rope spamton into it but he's not too excited about anyone touching his face but him (for obvious reasons)#but they like maybe wanna fix the blush on his cheeks since it looks kinda faded/scratched after he's lived in the trash for so long#he'd deny it but after a long look in the mirror thinks about reconsidering it#see im adding on but in the tags there's no hope for me hfjdjsksksk#dr!hc#asks#fanfic#sponsor being on a motorcycle is SO COOL i can't get it outta my head#long post

Random headcannons of the Radiator Springs folk: an alternative universe telling how the citizens stay (or don't stay) fit.
Fillmore: yoga obviously. And meditation, man.
Sarge: still follows a military regime of fitness. Basically strict pull-ups and military push-ups.
Flo and Remone: they've been secretly practicing ballroom dancing for years. Everything from salsa to the waltz. They tried swing dancing, but Ramon was afraid he was going to get one or both of them hospitalized. He really didn't want to give his wife a concussion. On the Ramon side of things, he may dabble in hip-hop dance and a little bit of breakdancing.
Sheriff: chasing bad guys and naps. But mostly naps lately.
Guido: he's a small guy with incredible body control. He does calisthenics, or street workouts. He has elite level skills. (He can do a full planche.) (This was inspired by going down a YouTube wormhole...) He has some pullup bars and parallel bars he made out of galivized pipe outside the tire shop. The industrial gym vibes. He also does a little breakdancing with Ramon.
Luigi: Owning a tire shop keeps him fit enough, he says.
Red: he'll run firefighter drills and make up obstacle courses. He likes the challenge of making up some sort of agility course and than seeing how long it takes him to complete it. He can do this thanks to his trusty stopwatch.
Lizzie: uses cans of vegetables as hand weights. Don't be fooled, she's stronger than she looks.
Sally: I'm gonna say she enjoyed swimming as a child. But now a days she doesn't really get to, living in the middle of the desert and all that. So now it's walking, biking, perhaps a bit of yoga.
Lightning: traditional gym bro stuff. But with terrible form. Deadlifts with a rounded back and everything. He's one mistake away from being in a gym fail video. (Seriously whatever you're thinking, it's worse.) When Doc was alive he pretty much gave up on trying to fix it and looked away. Cruz however is still trying fix.
Cruz: being a former trainer has served her well. Cruz will do just about anything. Her main jam is something pretty similar to crossfit. She does love her some olympic lifts. She's acquired a hodgepodge of hand-me-down work out equipment from Craigslist, garage sales and FB market place. One of her favorite finds is an old barbell and some random plates. It's a little rusty, not shiny like a new one, but it does the job. Essentially, she'll do whatever you throw at her. One of the cool things is she will jump in on the other citizens' workout regimes, for companionship or to encourage them. Obviously she trains with Lightning the most often, making sure he doesn't die of poor form. She does yoga with Fillmore, pushups/pull ups with Sarge. She'll go watch/do some other calisthenics with Guido. (She's almost got a handstand and L-sit down pat.) She'll run some drills with Red or hold his stopwatch for him. Chat with Lizzie while she does her daily exercises on her porch.
Oh crap I forgot Mater... *mind draws blank. cricket noises.* So, when Mater's not tinkering around the impound or drivin' his tow truck, he rides his old-school bicycle with high handlebars.

ATTACK on TITAN: The Musical a new live 2.5D Musical entertainment based on the wildly popular manga (comic book) by Hajime Isayama and published by Kodansha, will play New York City Center (131 W. 55th Street) from October 11-13, 2024. Directed by breakdance world champion Go Ueki (HYPNOSISMIC -Division Rap Battle- Rule the Stage), ATTACK on TITAN: The Musical had its world premiere in Osaka and Tokyo in January, 2023 to great success. The New York City Center engagement marks the musical’s first international performance.
ATTACK on TITAN: The Musical has book by Masafumi Hata, music supervision by KEN THE 390, and lyrics by Kaori Miura, and combines conventional musical theatre techniques with state-of-the-art technology, performed by a cast of 35.
A century ago, the grotesque giants known as Titans appeared and consumed all but the last remnants of humanity. The survivors took refuge behind giant walls. Today, the threat of the Titans is a distant memory, and a boy named Eren Yeager yearns to explore the world beyond his current circumstances. What began as a childish dream, though, will become an all-too-real nightmare when the Titans return and humanity is once again on the brink of extinction.
The ATTACK on TITAN manga was serialized in Bessatsu Shonen Magazine by Kodansha from 2009-2021, winning numerous awards across Japan and the US including the Kodansha Manga Award and Harvey Award. The manga is comprised of 34 volumes, and there have been many adaptations including anime television series, video games, novels & more. ATTACK on TITAN has sold 140 million copies and has been translated into 18 languages and published in over 180 countries. Over the last three years, ATTACK on TITAN has won more than 10 awards from the Crunchyroll Anime Awards for the anime version, which celebrates the creators, performers, and musicians powering the global love of anime with more than 34 million votes cast by fans this past year.
In Japan, there are stage productions based on manga, anime, and video games, which started to be called 2.5 dimensional musicals by fans around 2000. Manga and animation are in 2D, and live theatre is in 3D. Therefore, they call performances based on manga and animations 2.5D.
Another 2.5 the musical made its US premiere in 2019, when “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon” The Super Live played Washington DC at Warner Theatre and New York City at PlayStation Theater.
ATTACK on TITAN: The Musical will be performed in Japanese with English supertitles.

I haven't had much to talk about lately as far as dolls or doll repair tools go because I've been busy with other things.
My S.O. has been playing Yakuza: Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth, though, and I have some thoughts.
Which is on sale right now for $40 on Amazon:
He's been playing on PS5. Since he's the one playing, I can't give much of an opinion on the combat system or item storage, etc.
I can say there are a ton of mini- and sub- games that he's enjoyed like a bottomless dungeon, an Animal Crossing-like island resort to take care of, baseball, card games, a Pokemon spoof, a dating game, and more.
The game references and mimics many other classic video game genres.
-
Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth is the first in the Yakuza series that he's played (he didn't even know about the series; I did but only from other people), and it was also conveniently a perfect place to hop into the franchise because you get a quick rundown of the games that lead up to this point. Even having not played Like a Dragon, the first in the Yakuza series to feature Ichiban Kasuga as the lead and a whole new battle system (it's now turn-based RPG style) and most of the characters already being established, Infinite Wealth makes sure you know who everyone is and how they're tied to Kasuga and Kiryu.
The Yakuza series is well known and well loved, and despite some heavy, emotional story the series doesn't take itself too seriously.
-
LaDIW looks really great. There is some disparity in quality between cinemas, cut scenes, and game play but that's normal.
Characters have individual facial hairs. There is texture in the clothing. For the most part the movements are fluid and natural, though at times they are stiff and weird. In-game animation has gotten worse as the game has gone on but the cinemas are consistently high-quality. I wonder if they were in a crunch for some segments, or if they used a different, lower quality studio for those parts.
-
The opening chapter is tedious. Cinema after cinema, they're long, they're awkwardly written, they go on and on and on long after the points has been made much like this sentence. If you can get through that, the rest is much more enjoyable.
I have noticed the ending cinemas are similar to the beginning in that they are awkward, keep going past the point being made, etc. That is a bit frustrating.
The English voice acting is..... I wouldn't say it's great, but it's ok. Sometimes it's really obvious when one V.A. is doing multiple voices and that can disrupt immersion. Seunhee likes to hiss her S's at the end of sentences and that gets under my skin. That's just a me, thing, though.
-
The characters are dynamic, flawed, and very lovable. It's easy to feel like you're hanging out with a bunch of your friends, experiencing the same things they are, together.
There is a lot of melancholy in their individual stories. Illness, unrequited love (tons of unrequited love), taking responsibility, letting go of the things they want in order to help the people they love.
They are also mostly in their 40's which makes them a little easier for me to relate to.
I am old.
-
There is a bit of misogyny in the game.
The male characters have skin texture, scruff, wrinkles, eyebags, and flaws while the female characters are all flawless, smooth, and generally younger.
There are 3 playable women and 7 playable men.
Male characters get jobs like cowboy, chef, breakdancer, and surfer, while the female characters get jobs like maid, dominatrix, and idol singer. There is no overlap, men don't get to be maids and women don't get to be chefs, for example. The men also get a lot more jobs than the women do.
There is a lot of ~younger woman interested in oblivious older man~ going on, too.
Everyone is equally capable, though, and all of the characters are treated as equals by the other characters.
-
Without spoiling anything, some features and activities do become redundant due to how the game is set up (you'll see). Like you'll go to Location A and do something, then go to Location B and.... do it again.
-
All in all we've both really enjoyed it, and I'm dreading the game ending because we've enjoyed the experience so much.

Review: Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal
Sanzaru Games • SEGA • 2014 • Nintendo 3DS Read it on Backloggd: (x)
Sonic's always had a strange, yet interesting history on handhelds.
Its history spans five different developers, from Sonic's birth in 1991 to his 25th anniversary in 2016, with each year marking a gradual change in what the games are even supposed to be for. In the 90s it was Ancient and Aspect, trying to replicate the creative, varied, ball-rolling and feel-good adventures or Sonic 1, 2 and 3, cramming them into tiny 8-bit Game Gear games. While they aren't fantastic or even, good, really, you get a sense that they really tried to capture what people were enjoying about Sonic on the genesis at that point and time, and distilling it into a new format. You see this further with Sonic Pocket Adventure by SNK, a lovely tribute to the Genesis games that gets really close to actually feeling like them despite its 8-bitty visuals, yet feels somewhat restrained by not being much more than just a recreation. From there you get Dimps' Sonic Advance games, now latching onto Sonic's striking new identity after Sonic Adventure: It was still a series about feel-good adventures, of course, but now there was a bit more flair to it all. Sonic in Adventure wasn't just a cool design with a cheeky idle animation, he now had a voice, several fluid animations, strikingly expressive graffitti-esque art, he comments on situations and does cool breakdance tricks after beating levels. Somewhat like the Game Gear games before them, the original Sonic Advance became a game trying to distill the essence of Sonic Adventure, the style, the vibes, even the dramatics in the game's memorable Egg Rocket stage, into a format befitting of a handheld. Advance 2 and 3 are obviously much the same thing but for Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes respectively, with Advance 2 channelling the high-octane adrenaline of SA2 levels like Green Forest and Sky Rail into a 2D sidescroller plane, and Advance 3 taking Heroes' team-up mechanics into its own direction.
Yet with Sonic Rush, things began taking a new direction. Not only had there not been a big new Sonic game to try and channel after Heroes, but Dimps had also begun finding their own voice. Sonic Advance 2 had been a monumental triumph in terms of both sales and reviews, and its bold adaptation of 3D gameplay into 2D gave Dimps a somewhat unique basis to build off of – to make Sonic games entirely their own. Even when SEGA would try to reel this back after 2008, instead only having them work on games specifically branded as derivative of others, Dimps now took these games on with a distinctly their-own approach, seen in games like Sonic Colors DS, Sonic Lost World 3DS, and most infamously Sonic 4. In short, Sonic's handheld games had gone from cute imitations, to games driven by their source, to full on original games, to original games using their source as a baseline.
Which now brings us to our fifth and last, developer, for the final Sonic handheld ventures: Sanzaru Games, and Sonic Boom on 3DS.
Shattered Crystal was always going to be fighting an uphill battle compared to its handheld siblings: Mainly, it had little to no foundation to build off of, with Boom as an entity being made specifically to reinvent the series, in a more Americanized direction. For the big debut home console game, Big Red Button was a great choice for this: Jak & Daxter-ifying Sonic with some of that game's lead developers at the helm, whilst not seeming like a great direction to a lot of Sonic die-hards, at least seemed like a great way to get a solid product out. Thing is, unlike games like Advance and Pocket Adventure, Shattered Crystal didn't have a pre-existing thing to try and replicate: Due to being developed in parallel with Rise of Lyric, Sanzaru didn't have much to work off of beyond a few core concepts for the world, and a general idea of teamwork. On top of this, unlike Big Red Button or even Dimps, Sanzaru were in no way known for their excellence in 2D game design, or even known as good developers in general. And so, in a way, Shattered Crystal ended up a hodgepodge of all the different eras of handheld games, trying to both share the brand identity of its console counterpart, yet also be its own thing, but still building its foundations off of some core ideas from the main game, althewhile being fertile ground for the games' developers to grow and learn.
I wanted to give that rundown both because I find it incredibly fascinating to think about, but also because it makes the end product of Shattered Crystal make a lot more sense. Its a messy little game, filled both with ambition to be like what handheld Sonic once was, yet also embrace elements of the 2000s western-made platformers. The game's levels are uncharacteristically large for one, and a lot of the game is focused on exploring them to find collectibles manditory to unlock later levels. The other playable characters, Tails, Knuckles and Sticks, can be switched to on the fly, yet all they really offer is unlocking passageways or access to aforementioned collectibled. Its a very arbitrary inclusion of multiple playable characters, and it combined with gargantuan levels you're forced to explore could have very well ruined the game to be as bland and boring as its Wii U counterpart. So its a good thing, then, that they somehow managed to make Sonic himself feel absolutely fantastic to control. I'm serious: I have no clue how they did it, but Sonic controls like such a dream and has so many movement options, yet remains at a comfortable enough speed to make exploring levels still feasible compared to Dimps' best outings. Its a distinct feel to the character, yet immensely fun to play around with, mainly due to the fun interplay between the airdash and double jump.
To break it down, at any point in midair Sonic can dash either to his sides or straight up, after which he regains his double jump if it was used before. After a double jump he can airdash one additional time, but not in the same direction as the previous airdash, and this repeats until you've airdashed in all directions. What this means is that you can get crazy airtime by doing all of these interlinked airdashes and double jumps correctly, giving you more distance than Tails' flight in most instances the game wants you to switch to him. Jump, doublejump, airdash forward, doublejump, airdash up, doublejump...its reminiscent of those cool strings of moves you execute for long jumps in Mario Odyssey, only far more compelling due to being attached to get-to-the-goal speedrunning stages that still have a lot of options on how to best progress through them. What this means is that when the level asks you to switch to Knuckles to tunnel up a steep cliff, or switch to Tails to cruise over a bed of spikes, and so on, you can almost always execute it faster and more satisfyingly through mastery of Sonics controls. Add to this the fact that the doublejump maintains all of your speed, and the fun Enerbeam that has some really satisfying swinging physics, and you get some levels with some genuinely great flow to them. It takes a similar formula to the Wisps in the mainline Sonic games, switching to far simpler playstyles to clear very specific-to-them challenges, and instead gives you the tools to completely skip them if you're skilled enough with Sonic.
Granted, this doesn't always hold water, and the rushed nature of the game does sometimes catch up to it. Sticks exists to hit switches with her boomerang and she is the ONLY one who can do so, meaning there will inevitably be sections like the start of Scrapyard Zone where you're arbitrarily required to use her. The collectible grind can also halt your flow a lot of the time, like with the strangely out of place Tails Submarine levels where you play a slow and boring diving minigame for 2 minutes each in the middle of an otherwise fast paced game. Or rather, its a game where you can otherwise MAKE the pace faster than it in reality wants to be.
And thats just what makes Shattered Crystal so interesting. Despite everything, it holds on to so many things that makes Sonic games so fun to play, like fast movement, levels you can explore for both items and shortcuts, hell they've even got Richard Jacques – composer of Sonic R and Sonic 3D Blast – doing the music, and its often quite good! The levels themselves are super cool in theming, mostly thanks to each level having a "foreground" and "background", putting new spins on the same level theme sort of like how Sonic Heroes handles its levels. In Shadow Canyons, for instance, you go from grinding on rails and running along scaffolding by these big imposing cliffs, to being flung into the mining facility going on in those mountains. I honestly don't want to spoil the final level because it is such a cool theme for a stage with this system, that it makes the entire game feel worth it just to get to.
Because at the end of the day, for as much cool stuff there is in Shattered Crystal, for as close as it really does come to being a successor to Dimps' handheld lineage, the game is sadly just too much of a chore to get through normally. Unlike a game like Sonic Colors, the explorative nature of the stages isn't just there for optional unlockables, but rather required for progression and beating the game. By the end, you will more or less need a 90% completion rate, meaning most stages need to be both combed through but also beaten with above 50 rings and under a specific time. Its not that this stuff is bad or unfun to do, the game has a super detailed map on the touchscreen showing you where you havent been yet and where things are and I actually really like the autorunner extra stages you can do inbetween levels. It's moreso that it leads to the game feeling at odds with itself: Its immensely fun to speedrun and try to go faster in, but so much of the game wants you to instead do the fun-but-not-nearly-AS-fun collectible hunt. Then, you add that with how the controls can start to really hurt your hands after a while: There's no D-pad movement, meaning you need to slam a somewhat-flimsy circle pad as far to the left or right as it can go to move quickly, whilst also holding down Y at all times to run, whilst also asking you to be ready to use B to jump and A or X to airdash and enerbeam...
It all adds up to Shattered Crystal being a game with truckloads of potential to be amazing, that holds itself back both due to a rushed development and a need for surface-level parity with the slow-as-molasses home console Sonic Boom game it has no business associating with. But when you're able to overcome all those restrictions, when there's no longer a need to collect things, when you've mastered Sonics controls to almost never need to switch to the other bozos, and when you get a true flow going with mechanics you would never expect to be so fun for what the game looks to be on the surface...
That's when you've broken free. Because trouble keeps you running faster.

A-T-2 388 Fab 5 Freddy / Beside - Une Sale Histoire
Released as Change The Beat in the US. This was number 2 of the 5 record set with Futura 2000 covers that link up like this
If you look at this photo it says New York City Rap at the top. That's a reference to the tour of Europe that Deddie Harry's mate Fab 5 Freddy (Fred Brathwaite, not to be confused with the fab 4 as that's The Beatles) had a big hand in. Joking aside Fab 5 Freddy is an important figure and deserves all the props he gets. The tour is also celebrating it's 40th anniversary, NPR published this piece recently https://www.npr.org/2022/11/26/1137418347/new-york-city-rap-tour
There's a brilliant clip in the above article from the tour
youtube
So the record Une Sale Histoire, this is the record with the Ahh and Fresh sample in it, the scratch basics
youtube
Here is a history of that sample
youtube
The Ahh and Fresh samples come at the end of the b side which is where you find the 'Female Version' of Change The Beat/Une Sale Histoire. This was recorded by Ann Boyle then wife of Bernard Zekri who had lived with Futura 2000 and was close with socialite graffiti artist Fab 5 Freddy, together they organised the above New York City Rap Tour. Ann Boyle has many aliases Beside (or Beeside, or B-Side,) Fab 5 Betty (nice Flinstones ref there, yabadabadoo!) or Tribe 2. Under Tribe 2 she released What I Like which is the alternative 4th sleeve in the Futura set (there are two different 4th sleeves, The Smurfs and Tribe 2.) Ann Boyle was also in Bambaataa's Timezone and appears on The Wildstyle... so massively underrated contributor to hip-hop history. The story goes Fab 5 was struggling to record his verses of Change The Beat, they are trying English and French even Japanese to give it that hype, so to help Beside steps up and records the whole thing in French in one take, they love it and stick it on the b side
Fab 5 Freddy - Change The Beat
youtube
Bambaataa is credited with bringing the five elements of hip-hop together but y'know these guys did a lot to further that (some for better some for worse... commercial street art used to gentrify a neighbourhood, street dance! gymnastic breakdancing!)

The VWAP Magic: Medium-Term Strategies to Ace the Forex Market What if I told you that many traders out there are missing out on a secret sauce that could take their trading from mundane to magic—all without changing their coffee brand? Let me introduce you to VWAP, also known as the Volume Weighted Average Price, and how to use it for medium-term strategies to outsmart even the pros. But hold on, let's address the big question—why VWAP for the medium term? Why not swing trading, scalping, or just relying on your lucky socks? This article dives into some of the lesser-known secrets, advanced strategies, and expert tactics of the VWAP medium-term approach—including why this little gem might just be the most underrated tool in the Forex trader’s arsenal. Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP): Not Just a Boring Line on Your Chart First off, let's get cozy with VWAP. If you’ve ever accidentally bought a pet goldfish because it looked lonely—only to realize you don’t even like cleaning the tank—then you understand how it feels to invest in the wrong setup. VWAP prevents that kind of impulse decision-making. VWAP calculates the average price weighted by volume, giving traders a more nuanced understanding of where the price “should” be, relative to its trading volume. This is crucial for medium-term trading since it acts as a reliable reference point for identifying whether the price is above or below fair value—ultimately helping you avoid falling into emotional traps that often lead to buying high and selling low. The key here is using VWAP as a guiding star for both entries and exits in the medium-term frame, and not just the tool du jour for day traders. The "Mean-Reversion and Magnet Effect" Strategy One of the best-kept secrets of VWAP is what I call the "Mean-Reversion and Magnet Effect." Picture VWAP like the sales rack during a store closing—prices can deviate from it, but more often than not, they’ll return to this average price. If your cousin Shirley once paid $300 for a pair of Crocs, you’d expect that price to “mean-revert” to something far more reasonable. The market behaves the same. VWAP allows us to spot when the price has overextended and is ripe for a correction. Typically, if the price is significantly above VWAP, we can consider a sell as the price is likely to pull back to the “average”—cue the Magnet Effect. The key is to let VWAP be your guiding magnet, avoiding all those “Shirley”-level Crocs-buying decisions. Contrarian Insights: When VWAP Leads the Pack Ever noticed how everyone rushes to buy when a price makes an impressive climb? Ah, the herd mentality—I like to compare this to a dance party. When you walk into a party where everyone is doing the Macarena, you might think, “Well, I better do it too,” even if you absolutely hate dancing. But you know who gets the most attention at that party? The one person who walks in and starts breakdancing. VWAP allows us to take advantage of moments when the masses are losing perspective. If the price moves far away from the VWAP—you may find a great opportunity to go against the crowd, especially if you notice weakening momentum. Riding against the trend with VWAP as your dance partner is like showing up to that party with killer moves—everyone's stunned, and you exit before the awkward “shuffle-and-pretend-you’re-checking-your-phone” part. Stay Calm, Medium-Term Traders: VWAP Takes Care of the Overthinking If you're a trader who overthinks setups (don’t worry, we’ve all been there), VWAP might be your therapy session. There’s a lot of noise in Forex trading—fundamentals, rumors, that uncle who keeps giving you “tips.” VWAP allows us to have a simple, grounded indicator, giving a sanity check as to whether we’re paying above or below fair value. Traders often use VWAP in the medium-term to structure trades that benefit from the natural ‘ebb and flow’ of price, relative to this line. When trading gets frantic, VWAP can be your “chill pill”—a visual cue that reminds you where the calm, rational trades might lie. Riding the Middle Road: VWAP and Medium-Term Trades Now, I get it—you're asking, "Alright, how do I actually integrate VWAP into my medium-term strategy?" Here’s the lowdown. - Entry Triggers: Consider entering a position when the price crosses VWAP with volume confirmation. For instance, if you notice the price breaking above VWAP on increased volume, that’s a positive sign—it’s like being on a road trip where everyone decides to take a popular route, but this one has a scenic twist. - Exit Signals: Use VWAP as a "fair value" yardstick. When price significantly deviates from VWAP, it's time to think about closing. Picture this—you've been on that scenic road, but now you've ended up in a sketchy neighborhood—time to get out! - Stop-Loss Placement: It's generally smart to place stops just beyond the VWAP if you’re relying on it as a critical support or resistance level. Kind of like how you’d put a "Do Not Enter" sign on your fridge after midnight—you don’t want to find yourself deep in poor choices. A Personal Anecdote (Hint: I Learned This The Hard Way) I remember one time when I had a stellar position in USD/JPY. I’d been following VWAP religiously, and all signals pointed towards staying in. But then…I panicked, listening to some “expert advice” on the radio. I closed early, only to watch USD/JPY dance around VWAP perfectly, moving in my favor, while I had to sit on the sidelines nursing my FOMO and eating sad leftovers. Lesson learned: If VWAP says the trend is solid—trust it, unless the market tells you otherwise. Why VWAP and Volume Are the Batman and Robin of Forex VWAP isn’t just some lone vigilante running around Gotham. No—VWAP and volume are Batman and Robin—inseparable when it comes to giving you an edge. Let’s say price is breaking above VWAP, but the volume isn’t really supporting the move. That’s a red flag—kind of like Batman without Robin around to help him out. On the other hand, if you see significant volume as the price holds above or below VWAP, you know you've got strong confirmation—much like Batman and Robin taking on the villains together. The One Common Mistake to Avoid: Overcomplicating the Plot Many traders think they need a dozen indicators layered over their chart. If your trading screen looks like a kid's crayon box exploded, then VWAP can be your salvation—it provides all the insight you need without clutter. VWAP helps eliminate the urge to pile on unnecessary indicators that only lead to overthinking. And trust me, we’ve all been there—using so many tools that by the time you figure out what's happening, the trade is over, and you’re left feeling like you showed up at a party just as the music ended. How VWAP Tactics Make Medium-Term Trading Simpler VWAP in the medium term helps you maintain a balanced risk-to-reward approach. You avoid FOMO-driven entries, and you stop feeling the pressure of holding onto an over-extended position simply because “it’s moving up fast.” Think of VWAP as a reminder that speed doesn’t matter if you’re headed in the wrong direction. And here's where the real magic happens—VWAP lets you position yourself ahead of significant reversals without panicking at each minor move. No more “hand-holding” positions every few minutes or staring at your screen until your eyes are watering. Final Takeaway: Medium-Term Traders, Make VWAP Your Bestie I know some traders still scoff at the use of VWAP for anything but day trading. But I’m here to let you in on a little secret—the traders who last, the ones who don’t fall for the hype, are using VWAP. They are using it as their sanity check, to find entries and exits that make sense and to stay rational when the market starts acting like a toddler in a candy store. The best medium-term trades happen when we don’t rush, don’t overthink, and don’t panic. With VWAP, you’re equipped with a key tool that offers a clear sense of where value lies—a powerful magnet that allows you to pull away from the noise, make sound decisions, and get ahead of the crowd. Remember: stick to the fundamentals of VWAP, use volume to confirm, and let this secret gem guide your strategy. You’ll thank yourself for not going “full Shirley” at the next rally. You know, I’ve always been known for being impulsive, which is probably why I ended up trying stand-up comedy. But before stand-up, I was really into music. When I was new to this country, I was glued to MTV, BET, and YouTube music videos all the time. I’d watch those videos and think, “I want to be like those rappers and pop stars.” They were my superheroes. So, there I was, this brown kid on a college campus, but my inner voice was blasting, "I listen to Drake, Jay-Z, I got 99 problems!” I’d be breakdancing down the hallway like I was auditioning for a music video. Naturally, I decided to try my hand at rapping. I got my friend Chris to help—he had a free copy of FL Studio, and we started recording music. We’d take popular songs and turn them into rap remixes. I remember one time we took "You Raise Me Up" and added a rap verse: When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary When troubles come and my heart burdened be Then, I am still and wait here in the silence Until You come and sit awhile with me. You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas I am strong, when I am on your shoulders You raise me up to more than I can be… Yeah, you can imagine how that went down.
another trait of mine is i misplace stuff im like looking for where r my car keys , where is remote control my wife is like u need to b organized..
as a kid i remember losing the bicycle key
It's been three days since I lost the pool key, and now my mom is mad at me. It feels like she has a superpower that keeps her angry without a break whenever I mess up, which is why I try my best to never do anything wrong.
It's like there's a flashing neon sign on my forehead: "HORRIBLE, TERRIBLE, GOOD-FOR-NOTHING KID WHO LOST THE POOL KEY. $50 DOWN THE DRAIN!"
I try to explain to her that Cindy and I put up twenty flyers all over, and I understand that fifty dollars is equivalent to three hundred and fifty tomans in Iran, which is a lot of money to flush down the toilet. That's what it'll feel like if we have to pay the landlady.
"Why don't you check the clothes dryer and all your pockets?" my dad suggests, im filled with hope. I search through all my clothes, inspecting the washer and dryer, even go through the vacuum cleaner bag. I c heck between the sofa cushions and manage to find twelve cents.
But still, no pool key. The following day, my dad suggests praying to Saint Anthony, claiming it always works. "Saint Anthony, you mean?" I ask.
My mom , suggests we ask Saint Anthony to come over and look for the key instead. "He's a saint, so he's been dead for a long time," I tell her. "If you think a dead man is going to help you find the key, good luck," she retorts.
but I decide to pray, and, my prayers are answered when a neighbor finds the key gives it to the apartment office.
But then, there was my uncle, who I was staying with at the time. Now, this guy, he was all about food and clearance sales. Anytime I’d order a plain pizza, he’d show up with a mountain of toppings and say, “They have 32 toppings on sale today! You didn’t come to America to eat plain pizza!” He’d drive all over town for the best deals, rebates, and coupons, all while blasting country music in the background. I’m talking George Strait: “Amarillo by mornin’, up from San Antone…” “Lost my wife and a girlfriend, somewhere along the way…” And then one day, my uncle got this bright idea to open a restaurant. He found a spot where the owners were divorcing, so he signed the lease right away, convinced he was going to discover "secret recipes." He’d talk about his restaurant plans for hours, and it was like listening to a Spanish radio station you didn’t quite understand. He named the place “Nimo's Restaurant” after himself, of course, and he went all in with this crazy fusion menu: spicy lasagna, butter chicken pasta, paneer parmigiana. You know, keeping it authentic! But then, he orders a vacuum cleaner for the restaurant and doesn’t get the $10 rebate he was promised. This becomes his new mission. He’s on the phone with customer service like, “I sent in the form, the proof of purchase, the UPC code, my birth certificate, and I still didn’t get my rebate!” He couldn’t let it go. He was writing letters like it was 1942, while I’m telling him, “Uncle, it’s just $10.” And he’s like, “It’s not about the money; it’s about the principles of life!” Finally, customer service tells him the rebate expired. But he’s not done. He’s like, “I’m going to fight for this rebate!” For him, it was like a battle anthem playing in the background: “From this moment, life has begun From this moment, you are the one… And I'm gonna fight for the rebate!”

From Six Figures to Spotlight: Kelsy Choi’s Breakdancing Journey
Kelsy Choi’s decision to trade a lucrative marketing career for the unpredictable world of breakdancing was a bold gamble that captured the nation’s imagination. The US Olympian’s journey, while ultimately falling short of the Olympic podium, is a testament to the power of passion and the relentless pursuit of dreams.
Choi’s story is a classic underdog narrative. Raised on a diet of hip-hop culture, she found an early affinity for the rhythmic and acrobatic art of breakdancing. However, the demands of adult life led her to a more conventional path — a high-paying marketing job. Yet, the allure of the dance floor never truly faded.

The decision to quit her job and dedicate herself full-time to breakdancing was a seismic shift. It meant leaving behind financial security and societal expectations for the uncertain world of professional dance. But for Choi, the risk was worth the reward. She was trading comfort for the chance to pursue her lifelong passion.
Her journey was not without its challenges. Balancing grueling training schedules with the financial pressures of being a professional dancer was a constant struggle. There were moments of doubt, when the sacrifices seemed insurmountable. Yet, Choi persevered, driven by an unwavering belief in her abilities.

Qualifying for the Olympics was a monumental achievement. It was a validation of her decision to leave behind the corporate world. But the Olympic stage, as unforgiving as it is, proved to be a formidable opponent. Choi’s journey ended abruptly in the round-robin stage, a result that undoubtedly stung.

Break and desire for the ask game 👀
anon when i saw this pop up in my notifs i swore it said "breakdance" and i was like wow. these asks sure are getting odd!
anyway - heres the list im answering from!
break: What would cause your OC to break down completely? What do they look like when that happens? Has anyone ever seen them at their lowest?
funny you should ask this one - there's a scene in chapter 16 where rue finds a little ceramic cat for sale that looks so much like her childhood cat biscuit (gortash ends up buying it for her without telling her) and theres a lot of thoughts about childhood and being soft and gentle that are now out of reach to her, which ultimately end up making her cry.
i really think rue wants to preserve the happy memories from her childhood and live in a sort of 'rose coloured' version of it where she wasnt a horrible girl who hurt animals and killed her family but knows deep down that everything in her life has been tainted by bhaal's influence.
her breakdown about how she doesnt know what she wants anymore and just needs a break is seen by gortash, and where she expects comfort from her oldest friend she gets nothing. just a cold stare and told to pack it in.
i love making her vulnerable only to be met with closed offness from others hehe
post tadpoling i think shes just completely exhausted with everything shes teetering on the edge of a breakdown every day. in some sick and twisted au she completely goes off on one to her companions after gortashs death when they refuse to help her bring him back. she says she's done so much stuff for them in the past yet when she asks for something theres nothing.
pre game rue's breakdowns are lonely, the kind where you bottle up everything until your alone and refuse to cry about it still because you dont want to be seen as weak to an invisible audience
post tadpoled rues breakdowns are angry, snide remarks and snappy comments that fester away inside of her until she says things she doesnt mean and wants everyone to leave her alone for good
desire: What's one thing your OC wants more than anything in the world? Are they open with that desire? Why or why not? What would they do to fulfill it?
to live a normal, boring life.
rue tells herself its to further bhaals plans, to rid the world of every living creature, to bathe the world in blood, but really she wants a boring life where she can wake up and go to the market and cook breakfast and read books.
she makes some effort to get that (see: previously mentioned scene where she asks gortash to run away with her but is shut down by it) and when theres a refusal she packs it away in a neat box and shelves the idea
though the dream is fulfilled when she settles in waterdeep with gale post-game! he has many books for her to read and she takes up pottery and starts selling her little mugs and plates and its a simple life but she enjoys it for the most part!!
#; tea time#anon#thank u for these!!!!#i think about her life post-game so much to the point where i cant settle on what happens#she just deserves the world and to rest and i really should give her thag#that*
