The Impact of Diet on Oral Health: Foods to Embrace and Avoid
The Impact of Diet on Oral Health: Foods to Embrace and Avoid
Best Dental Clinic in Ashok Vihar, Delhi, we believe that maintaining oral health goes beyond regular dental check-ups and cleanings. One of the most significant contributors to your dental well-being is your diet. This blog will explore the impact of various foods on oral health, highlighting those you should embrace and those you should avoid.
Understanding the Connection Between Diet and Oral Health
Your mouth is a complicated environment in which germs flourish. When you eat sweet or acidic foods, these bacteria feed on the sugars and produce acids, which erode tooth enamel and cause cavities. In contrast, a well-balanced, nutrient-dense diet can improve your dental health by strengthening your teeth and gums.
Foods to Embrace for Better Oral Health
Dairy Products:
Cheese, Yogurt, and Milk: These are excellent sources of calcium and phosphate, which are essential for remineralizing teeth. Cheese can also help neutralize acids in the mouth and stimulate saliva production, which protects against decay
Fruits and Vegetables:
Crunchy options include apples, carrots, and celery, which are not only nutritious but also assist clean teeth when chewing. Their fibrous nature stimulates the gums and increases saliva flow.
Leafy Greens: Vegetables like spinach and kale are abundant in calcium and other vital minerals that promote oral health.
Whole Grains:
Foods like brown rice, quinoa, and whole-grain bread contain essential fiber without the additional sugars found in refined grains. These can help keep blood sugar stable and prevent cravings for sugary snacks.
Nuts and Seeds:
Almond, walnut, and sesame seeds are high in calcium and good lipids. They can help strengthen teeth and provide important nutrients for overall health.
Green Tea:
This beverage contains antioxidants known as catechins, which can help reduce inflammation and fight germs associated with gum disease. Drinking green tea may also reduce the risk of cavities.
Sugar-Free Gum:
Chewing sugar-free gum stimulates saliva production, which helps wash away food particles and neutralizes acids created by bacteria in the mouth.
Foods to Avoid for Optimal Oral Health
Sugary Snacks and Beverages
Candy, pastries, cakes, and sugary drinks are among the most harmful to dental health. They provide a consistent source of sugar for bacteria to feed on, resulting in plaque accumulation and cavities.
Recommendation: Limit your consumption of these things to exceptional occasions rather than everyday nibbles.
Acidic Foods
Citrus fruits (such as lemons and oranges) and vinegar-rich diets can damage tooth enamel over time if ingested in excess. While they have health benefits, it is critical to take them in moderation.
Tip: After eating acidic foods, rinse your mouth with water to help neutralize the effects.
Starchy Foods
Potato chips, white bread, and other refined carbs can get caught between teeth, converting into sugars that feed harmful germs.
Advice: Opt for whole-grain alternatives when possible.
Hard and Chewy Candies
These sweets not only contain a lot of sugar, but they can also physically damage your teeth if you bite down too hard. Chewy candies tend to stay on teeth longer, increasing the risk of decay.
Instead, use dark chocolate, which is less sticky and easier to wash away.
Alcohol
Alcoholic beverages can cause dry mouth by lowering saliva flow, which is necessary for neutralizing acids in the mouth. Chronic dry mouth raises the risk of dental decay.
Moderation is key: If you consume alcohol, stay hydrated with water.
Dried Fruits
Dried fruits, such as raisins and apricots, are sticky and heavy in sugar, while being commonly thought of as nutritious snacks. They can stick to teeth longer than fresh fruits.
Suggestion: Choose fresh fruits instead, or rinse your mouth after eating dried options.
Tips for Maintaining Oral Health Through Diet
Limit Snacking: Frequent snacking exposes your teeth to prolonged acid attacks from bacteria. If you must snack, choose healthier options like fruits or cheese.
Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to help wash away food particles and maintain saliva production.
Practice Good Oral Hygiene: Brush twice daily with fluoride toothpaste and floss regularly to remove plaque buildup caused by food residue.
Regular Dental Check-ups: Schedule routine appointments at Kakkar Dental Clinic to catch any dental issues early.
Conclusion
The link between food and oral health is apparent. You may dramatically enhance your dental health by eating nutritious foods and avoiding hazardous ones. At Kakkar Dental Clinic in Ashok Vihar, we encourage our patients to make informed food decisions as part of their comprehensive oral health regimen.

*Summer Heat* The Forbidden Zone Part 1
"Oh my God" Jo jumped up when she heard Kie's words. "What's going on? Is she OK?" Jo huddled closely to John B so she could spot Kie. "I found something." Kie handed John B an envelope through the hole. "Yup that's not gold." Pope had to comment upset about not finding the gold. "Obviously we were meant to find this." Jo stated as she helped Kie out of the hole. "This is from my dad you guys." John B stated looking at the envelope. There was a vehicle approaching catching everyone's attention. "Code red you guys! Square groupers!" JJ yelped out as he grabbed onto Jo. He pulled her against the side of the building. "It's the same guys who robbed your house." JJ freaked out as he snuck a peek around the building. "Turn off the lights!" Kie hissed to JJ and John B. Jo pulled JJ back toward her and turned off the light that was on his head. He continued to keep look out as Jo shook her head at John B who just put the lamp under his shirt. "Do you think its them?" Jo whispered as whoever was driving the golf cart stopped the vehicle. "Homies got a gun you guys." JJ was obviously fried. "Fuck this." Kie grabbed Jo's hand and started running toward the gate. The guys quickly followed behind them. The men started shouting at them as they ran. Kie let go of Jo's hand and climbed over the gate. JJ gave Jo a push up and she managed to climb over next. She passed Pope who appeared to be stuck. Once they made it over she noticed that Pope was still stuck. "Guys! Shit I'm stuck!" Pope loudly whispered to them in a panic. "Don't move Pope!" JJ grabbed his gun and pointed it up. "Are you fucking nuts!" Jo hissed at him. John B quickly grabbed the gun out of his grasp. "Jo help me." Kie commanded as she tried to pull Pope down. "You guys are gonna rip me stop." Jo gave him one good yank and Pope fell to the ground without his pants. "Oh my god come on." Jo and Kie laughed as they ran to the van. "Its like a little tootsie roll." JJ joked as they piled into the van. Kie hopped in front with John B and Jo sat beside JJ. "Do you have any food at your house I'm starving." JJ asked Jo as he laid his head down on her lap. She giggled softly. "I can see what I can find." she told him. "That would be very helpful since you have a generator and all." he joked looking up at her. "You have to say the magic words first." she teased back with a smile. "You're awesome?" he guessed. She shook her head. "Not even close but that's alright." She teased as they rode back to the Chateau. *********
Once John B pulled in the driveway JJ practically pushed Jo out the door. "Excuse you!" Jo flicked JJ in the forehead. "Please I am sooo hungry." he replied dramatically. "You are so needy!" she shouted to him as she started walking over to her house. Once she got to her house she searched for JJ's favorite foods that he liked to eat when he was stoned. She found microwavable pizzas in the freezer and decided to make those. While she waited for the pizzas she walked to her mom's room and found her passed out on her bed. She shook her head with disappointment and went to her room. She pulled out a bag and started stuffing clothes. Even though she lives next door, it is just easier to have everything with her already. Plus she had to work in the morning so she didn't want to be late. Once the pizzas are done, she walked back over to John B's. She walked in the house and heard Pope lecture JJ. "That bread had mold on it like a week ago." Jo put the pizzas down and gave JJ a disgusted look. "It'll be okay Pope, I'll just pull off all the bad parts. Plus mold is like a natural organism its supposed to be good for you or some shit." JJ argued. "Put that bread down mold breath, I brought you some pizza." she informed JJ as she put all the other slices on the table with John B. "Oh thanks Jo. You're the best." Kie complimented as she grabbed a slice. "Mold breath? Seriously? Its really not that bad." JJ tried to defend his choice in snacks but it wasn't working. "Put the sandwich down JJ now." Jo ordered. "You guys!" Kie hollered for them. Jo shook her head and moved over to the table where John B was opening up the envelope. JJ took a bite of his sandwich and started gagging. "I told you." Jo whispered to him as he grabbed a piece of pizza to cover the taste. Jo turned her attention back to John B and the envelope. He pulled out a paper that looked to be a map. "Holy shit!" John B exclaimed. Jo glanced over his shoulder and looked at the map. "X marks the spot." Pope stated as he pointed to the x on the map. "There is something else in here." John B said as he reached in the envelope and pulled out a tape recorder. They all looked at it in awe. "What is that thing?" JJ asked causing Jo to facepalm herself. "It's a tape recorder...dumbass." Kie informed him. JJ rolled his eyes at her. "Well play it JB." Jo encouraged. He pushed the play button. "Hey Bird." They could all hear Big John's voice. "Who is Bird?" JJ asked as he stuffed his face with a piece of pizza. "That's what my dad called me." John B told them. "I hate to say "I told you so", but I told you so. And you doubted your old man. I suspect at this moment, you're filled with guilt and self-loathing over our last fight, but don't kill yourself just yet, kid. I didn't expect to find the Merchant either." Everyone looked at each other in surprise. Jo placed a hand on John B's arm in comfort. His voice caught their attention again. "You were probably right to call me out. I wasn't exactly father of the decade. What can I say, kid? I could just smell the barn. Hopefully we're listening to this tape right now in our brand new sugar-shack down in Costa Rica, living off passive investments and pulling off permits." Jo could tell the sound of a gun being loaded in the background of the tape. She instantly got a huge bad feeling about all of this. "If not, and you find this for less than optimal reasons, well that's what this map is for. There she is, the wreck of the Merchant." Jo took a breath and caught JJ's eye. He gave her such a serious look. "If something happens to me, finish what I started. You got good friends who you can trust. Go for the gold kid, even when I couldn't. I love you Bird, even if I didn't always act on it. I'll see you on the other side." The tape turns to static and everything is dead silent. John B stood up suddenly and stumbled over to the doorway where he collapsed on the ground with sobs. Kie was the first one to notice him. "I can't believe he actually did it." JJ hollered not realizing that his friend was hurting. "Can you just not." Kie lectured to JJ. Jo quickly clasped her hand over his mouth to shut him up. Kie rushed over to John B and wrapped her arms around him. Jo didn't notice the arm that was wrapped around her.
********** They decided to move down to the dock as Jo got a bottle of liquor from her house and split it with John B. They were passing around a bottle of Tequila just drinking straight from the bottle. Kie was softly playing the ukulele as Pope lightly played on cans as drums. Jo sat in a fold out chair right between JJ's legs as he sat on the rail. John B was sitting across from her on a small bench. She quickly took another swig of the tequila and passed the bottle to Pope who sipped a small amount. "So how much was it again?" JJ asked as he played with Jo's hair without the others seeing. Thunder roared in the background as the bugs softly made their noise. "400 million." Pope reminded JJ. "Alright guys, let's talk the split." He pulled out his gun and waved it around. "Now before we all say "evenly", may I remind you that I am the only one that can properly defend us from those groupers who were after us." he commented. Jo rolled her eyes at her ridiculous friend. "Protection? Its not cheap you guys." JJ continued. "You have no training." Pope commented the same time as Jo said, "You're not the only one who can shoot a gun." She reached up and tried to take it from him, but he was too quick. "Yo, I'm too quick for you babe. YouTube is the solution for all. So that's at least a five percent bump right there." JJ continued to as his friends just ignored him knowing he was full of it. Kie quickly changed the subject. "What are you gonna do with your 80 mil, Pope?" she asked him. He seemed stunned that she would ask him the question, but he finally answered. "Pay for college in advance. And textbooks, those are very expensive." he replied. Jo gave a nod of approval knowing that he would choose education. "What about you Kie?" JJ asked her. "Yea what does a socialist do when she's rich?" Pope asked with a laugh. Jo passed the bottle to Kie who took a drink before she answered. "I just wanna make a double album. About OBX. The Pogues. You know the way 'Catch a Fire' is about Kingston. Record it at Marley Studio, Peter Tosh producing-" Jo and Pope cut her off at the same time. "Peter Tosh is dead." They spoke at the same time. "I know that you guys. But the spirit of Peter Tosh will never die." Kie finished as she passed the bottle back to Jo. "What about you Jo? What are you gonna do?" JJ asked her as he took the bottle from her hand. Honestly there was so much that she could say, but something stuck out to her. "I wanna open up a center. A little safe haven for kids who just need to escape. It won't matter who they are or where they're from. That place would always be neutral ground and free from violence and criticism and just negative feelings." Jo spoke softly. She quickly cleared her throat. "I also wanna do some traveling and party like non-stop." she joked as she laughed away the emotional feelings that surfaced when she drank. JJ gave her a brief look before he spoke. "Well, I know what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna get a big ass house on Figure Eight and go full kook." he told his friends. Jo turned her head to look up at him. He glanced down at her and gave her a wink. "You? Go full kook?" Pope asked not believing him. "Yup, I'm gonna get a marble statue of myself, get myself a koi pond." he stated as he chanced a glance down at Jo knowing her favorite fish were Koi fish. "I'm gonna get me a real beautiful honey and spoil the shit out of her." JJ finished. "You? Get a girlfriend?" Kie scoffed. "I would love to see that happen one day JJ, I really would." Kie stated with a laugh not believing that it could ever happen. Jo felt something stirring inside her like feelings that she tried to push down. She had to get rid of them quickly. "What about you JB?" Jo asked as everyone turned their attention to John B who had stayed silent the entire time. He glanced at them as they waited for him to say something. "To going full kook." he responded with a smile as he raised the beer can he was sipping on towards them. "To going full kook!" They all cheered.
************
The next morning Jo woke up super early to her alarm going off. She pushed JJ's arm off of her and slowly got off the bed to head to the bathroom. She grabbed her stuff and got ready for work in the bathroom. Once she was showered and dressed she walked out to see everyone awake. "You can't wear that on the boat." John B stated clearly not remembering that she had to work. "I can't go on the boat this morning I have to work obviously." she stated sounding moody. "You can still go with us. We'll drop you off in town." JJ stated. She rolled her eyes. "Just let me change my clothes first." she replied as she turned around to put on her bathing suit. Once she had changed she grabbed her bag and they headed out to the boat. As they got closer to town they spotted another boat heading their way. Jo was sitting across from JJ working on her tan knowing that she would be at work for most of the day and this was probably all the sun she was gonna get for the day. "You guys see that?" JJ caught her attention as he pointed to the boat. She looked up and instantly recognized the boat. Her dad and Topper's mom had bought a boat and put in both Topper's and her name. She hadn't had the chance to drive it yet since Topper had it all the time. "That's the Malibu 24-MXZ." JJ sounded in love. Jo smirked softly since she didn't tell her friends it was half hers too. "I know it's the world's fastest wake setter. It's the number one in luxury, quality, and performance. Its worth 200k easy." Jo commented not looking at the boat. "How could you possibly know that?" JJ asked her. "Guys we definently picked the wrong parents." Pope moped. "I hate to break it to you guys but that's Topper and his girlfriend." Kie sounded spiteful as she glared. The boys looked to see Topper and Sarah glaring at them from their boat. Topper spotted Jo and pointed. "My mom signed you up for the beach clean-up!" Topper shouted to her. She shrugged her shoulders dramatically. "Can't! I'm working bro!" She shouted back to him. He shook his head and turned away from her. "You don't have to act like you don't see us bitch!" Kie shouted to Sarah who just stared at them. "Wait, why didn't you tell me Topper got a new boat?" JJ asked sounding hurt. She gave him a scoff. "Who said it was just Topper's?" she teased with a smile. "I hate you. When you're done work we are so taking that boat out!" JJ stated as he poked her. John B pulled up to the dock. "Hands off Maybank. I haven't even driven it yet." she grabbed her bag and hugged her friends. "What time are you done?" JJ asked her as he helped her out of the boat and onto the dock. "I think seven but I'm not sure." she told him. "Alright well just let me know." he told her. "Yes dad." she joked as she rushed off to get to the country club in time.
**************
Once she made it to work, she quickly changed her clothes and got the smell of the ocean off of her and headed for her boss. She found her in the office. "Good you're here. I need to go over the orders for Midsummers. I need you to make sure everything is here and ready. We only have a couple more days and we need to have everything perfect." her boss stated, not even letting her fully get in the office. "Of course. Do you have a list for me?" Jo asked getting right to business. "It's all right here." she told her as she handed her a huge folder filled with paper. "OK. I will get right on this." Jo told her. "Great. Try to have most of that done by lunch. I have a lunch meeting with the president of the club today and you're going to be there with me." her boss told her. Jo's eyes widened in surprise. "Me? Why?" Jo asked not knowing why she had to have lunch with the president too. " This year Ward Cameron is getting mentioned for his outstanding community service to this island so we need to make sure everything is perfect. And you're the right person to do that." her boss told her. "Okay. I won't let you down." Jo told her. She quickly left the office and headed towards the back where they kept all the supplies. She quickly pushed through the door to see the floor staff unpacking all the boxes. "OK you guys I need this stuff sorted and counted. Nothing can go wrong." Jo sounded overwhelmed but quickly pushed it aside. A worker who has worked there a while and knew placed a hand on her shoulder in comfort. "You're doing great Joanna. Your dad is so proud of you." she complimented. "You really think so?" Jo asked uncertain. "Of course. He said so himself to me the other day. He worries about you with your friends, but you have a strong head on your shoulders and are doing great." The worker got back to work of unpacking all the boxes. Jo felt better as the day went on.

I feel like X6 would be AMAZING at cooking. Can and will create a four couse, five star meal from scraps.
YOU. ARE THE ONE RESPONSIBLE FOR MY HUNGER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. hav yo snac 🍪 and I swear if you send me another food related ask I'll eat my entire fridge filled with nothing.
Eating and finding food in the Commonwealth was even worse that living in it. Questionable, most definitely; especially when he had his heart set on a box of fancy lads only to find out later that the entire box was moldey and degrading.
He never understood how people were fine with eating and drinking damaged foods. Content with only having what could possibly kill them in a few days time instead of striving for better. The farmers of the Commonwealth did have fresh foods, but not quite fresh enough to call 'healthy' against the standard meals they were given at the Institute.
There were some, though. Some settlers who had the time to learn and gone their skills in the culinary arts and some pre war robots that still served like it had two hundred years ago.
Which led to him discovering many things—one: that you do not, in fact, eat a burger with a fork. Or chicken for that matter unless it's stewed.
He also discovered his love for cooking.
Through trial and error he learned from Nora. Herbs and vegetables and spices had been key to flavor, she'd told him. Also what Institute foods lacked. He would've defended them, argued that adding more things—flavor—to nutrition packets would distract synths from their duties. But after tasting a slice of cake he nearly cried over—that was better than even snack cakes—he couldn't agree more.
He challenged himself whenever he could, to see what he could make from only a few scraps that would turn into a heavenly stew that he was proud of making. Eventually it led to finding most of the food he'd prepared devoured by the heathens that Nora had traveled with on occasion—and Curie. She was not exempt from the thievery category.
Sweets were his favorite things to try. The wasteland had limited access to sweeteners and specific agents that were required for a simple pie of all things... even the institute lacked severely in that department. But people on the surface found ways by utilising what they had and he learned from them.
At first he messed a few things up by either adding a teaspoon too much or a tablespoon too low. His worst moment had been when he manipulated the crust too much and it hasn't come out the way it was supposed to. Not like Nora had told him anything about that until after the pie crust had come out too wet to put the filling in.
But eventually, he succeeded. By not listening to Nora. The one who introduced him to cooking. Because apparently she was too blind to see that the recipe had called for three cups of flour instead of one. He greatly exaggerated this, and gently (but firmly) kicked her out of the kitchen until the end results were finished. The pie wasn't how he wanted, could still use a few improvements in his opinion, but he'd save that for another day. Curie had stolen the last piece of pie after skillfully fork-fighting the two who had devoured the rest.
Four course meals were his specialty and he had nearly put a settler in a food coma after they'd taken a bite of everything. That settler had been Deacon, and X6 wished he put at least a bit of rat poison on his plate. Sadly, there are blind people that don't pay attention to recipes that won't let him have his fun.
Smoked venison, glazed brahmin flanks, mashed potatoes and "the best garlic bread I had ever tasted" (Nora's words) had been lined on the table for a midsummer night at Spectacle Island. Other settlers he brought their own offerings of food (a peace offering, MacCready had said) and sweets and drinks. His brahmin flanks were the first to go, and Nora had told him about a time at a family reunion how something called a sausage had been the first to go as soon as the food had been ready for everyone. His flanks were the sausages, and pride swelled in his chest as he realised that his cooking had been better than what most people had out in the wastes.
This just brings about a while load of questions though anon. Like, what do the people use for baking soda and baking powder? What do they use to substitute sugar? Are there still sugar cane plants around? Can you harvest natural sugars from plants like mutfruit and melons? And spices like cinnamon and cloves? Are there any trees/bushes like the ones before the war? Where is the fucklin BACON?! HOGS?!!! WHAT ABOUT CHICKENS?!?! FISH?!?!? HOW—

how they met;
this has been the 2nd, maybe 3rd week in a row jaehyun had seen this tall lanky boy in the cafe. Said boy had papers, like Tons of papers strewn across his table (which looks a little small for him; “should I shift another table to join with his? But then that makes 2 circles, it’s weird, what if his pencils roll down the gap and onto the floor, that will distract him” Jae thinks absentmindedly.) The papers looked like drawings(?). Well no, not portrait drawings but of buildings and structures- it looked like outlines and drawing plans of architecture so he must be an architecture student. Or perhaps an engineer? What type of engineering would this be- civil and structural?
“I mean, he must be a student around here, right?” Jaehyun’s manager asks him. “Uh shit I have been caught staring?!” Jae visibly starts to panic before his manager starts again, “Does he go to your college?” Jae shakes his head and the night goes on without any other eventful matters.
The next night, the same tall boy orders his usual; “a small Americano please, thank you” he asks politely with a big grin. Jae thinks to himself, “first, that’s the most bitter coffee I don’t know why anyone would order coffee without milk like they come together yknow? Like cereal and milk, bread and butter, Oreos and milk- the list goes on. second, I’m going to make it as delicious as possible (technically, not very possible) so this boy comes back again tomorrow and thirdly, maybe throw in a snac...”
“Small Americano please? Hey you there?” The boy waves in his face. Jae nods quickly and turns around, cursing in his head. He’s sure his ears are Red as a Tomato now oh Gosh why must he overthink this order?!??! Tomorrow, tomorrow will be the day he makes it right.
The next day comes and before the boy opens his mouth, Jae smiles and says as confidently as he can (and as normal colour his ears can ever be), “small Americano, right?” The boy smiles (gratefully? Charmingly? Uh Jae stop being weird) and nods. Tomorrow, tomorrow will be the day he makes it right.
The next day, Jae doesn’t bother asking him to reconfirm the order. When the tall boy walks through the door, Jae gets cracking and makes the cup of coffee. He smiles and adds a small cookie on the side. The tall boy sees the cookie and looks at him with curious eyes. “On me, I mean on the house. On the cafe. Ha ha ha shout out to my manager— uh thank you for your business!” Jae rambles on and quickly bows (very awkwardly) and he’s certain his ears are red again by now. Tomorrow, tomorrow will be the day he makes it right.
The next day comes and Jae prepares the cup of coffee.
Today.
Today’s going to be the day Jae-
“Hey, you are Jaehyun right? I’m not being creepy it’s on your name tag— I’m Johnny. Do you mind giving me your number so we can hang one day when you aren’t on shift?”
Today. Today was the day Jae wanted to ask for his name and number.
Today. Today was the day he knew his name was Johnny.

Mmmmm yum, snac
Depends in the cereal. Captain Crunch is the best
Depends on what it is. Noodles? Yes. Pizza? I dont even like that fresh
Peanut butter makes my mouth feel icky
Yep, bread is what I eat to bring back my appetite after forgetting to eat for too long
if you experience depression, reblog with your opinion on:
plain tortilla chips eaten with nothing on them
eating cereal by the handful, straight out of the box
cold, 4-day old leftovers
peanut butter straight out of the jar
eating two slices of bread
