You are not a bother! I got the stickerset you are referring to off of ebay in late 2001 or possibly very early 2002. It came from Japan. Beyond that, however, I’d have to spend a lot of time sifting through literally tens of thousands of image files of japanese hamster stickers and stationery on my harddrive and possibly hauling out massive crates of stationery to sort through to find it again. The  problem is that I have japanese hamster stickers from SO MANY different companies. San-X, Sanrio, MindWave, CruX, Kamio, Q-Lia, Pool Cool, CSI, KPL (Korean), Lemon Co. Affect co., Ark Road, Bandai, Wizard co., Libre co., Seiwa, Vivid co., CSI, Paul Frank, Orange Story, It's Seal, Aurora Seal, Amuse co., Phoneix co. (Thai), Point Inc., Sun Star co. and lots of products without their company names written in english letters too. I wish there were a way to search my harddrive for a match to that image which I could easily download from tumblr. The filename and file location would probably provide you with the information you seek, but I don’t know of a way to search my harddrive by image. Wish I could have been more help.

de chiquito sus papás lo querían mucho pero su mamá vivía viajando por asuntos de negocios. gracias a dios su papá siempre estuvo en casa para darle la atención necesaria a angel, quien desde pequeño es un llorón. el papá también es muy exitoso, dueño de su propio bufete de abogados, sin embargo, también es una persona muy cálida y muy de familia. la falta de la mamá en casa no le afectaba sólo a angel pero él no se percataba de ello pq estaba chikito y mas menso que ahora

bueno en una ocasión la mamá llegó de uno de sus viajes y fue todo muy raro, fue cuando las cosas empezaron a explotar en el matrimonio y entre constantes discusiones y problemáticas que ocupaban toda la casa, a angel lo empezaron a medio que dejar de lado sin querer. o por lo menos así lo veía él. aquí empezó la obsesión de agarrar cositas chiquitas porque sí, porque le gustaba mucho la adrenalina de salirse con la suya y bueno,,, si lo agarraban tampoco le importaba, por lo menos así sus papás reaccionarían.

pero parece que no tuvo cuidado con sus deseos y al final sí lo agarraron; los papás encontraron como varios meses después una caja repleta de cosas que eran visiblemente robadas y, sintiéndose responsables por las acciones de angel, decidieron alejarlo del ambiente feo que ellos mismos construyeron con sus peleas y sus problemas y lo enviaron a woldingham esperando que se reforme y que sea mas fácil.

sí... pero no funcionó porque igual angel seguía agarrando cosas discretamente y guardándolas en su suéter hasta esconderlas en su lugar seguro. cuando salían al pueblo siempre agarraba cositas random de tiendas random y luego se las daba a sus amigos,, quienes me imagino que pensarían "ah no, sólo es angel gastando dinero a lo tonto" y no están muy equivocados pq también a angel le gusta gastar su dinero en lo que sea...... buen intento papás de angel supongo gracias por participar

estuvo muy enojado pq angel tiene varios personality traits de kim kardashian y es muy llorón y necesita atención constante. entonces llega OTTO el enano apestoso y 1. es mayor que él 2. se gana el aprecio de SU papá 3. se muda a SU casa 4. AHORA TAMBIÉN AL INTERNADO DONDE HIZO MUCHOS AMIGOS Q AHORA OTTO TAMBIÉN SE ROBÓ???? "supongo q voy a exteriorizar mi frustración de niño rico tomando prestado cosas que no necesito" dijo angel

en el salón de clases era el que se creía cool porque a las niñas de cursos mas bajos que ellos pensaban que era bonito. tmb es muy altanero pero es casi ridículo al respecto como que él muy mUY por dentro sabe que no es tan chulo y genial pero no importa igual mantenía la fachada. tmb era medio descarado tipo muy "and what about it" y le respondía a los profesores sólo para hacer reír a los demás

ahora mismo está estudiando derecho en una muy buena universidad cosa que es medio incomprensible dadas sus calificaciones mediocres pero bueno todo se puede si tienes mucho dinero....... sigue siendo la misma persona que fue en woldingham sólo que ahora es más pretencioso y tiene un tesla y una colección de lentes de sol de la cual está muy orgulloso nunca repite lentes de sol

pero dia desde chiquita es super inquieta, razón por la cual los papás decidieron aprovechar y así ponerla en mil extracurriculares. en la que mas destacaba era en la gimnasia, sobre todo en la tela. ya sabes eso que te subes y das vueltas en la tela y es como wow bueno eso y claro la dejaban porque era una niña al fin y al cabo y tampoco es como que los papás eran malos, simplemente eran señores muy intensos saben como bueno no sé ya veremos

la cosa es que ya le tenían un camino planeado. en ese plan coincidía asistir a woldingham, donde sus papás se conocieron en su juventud y bueno para ella fue como *se encoge de hombros* okay i guess toda su vida era un *se encoge de hombros* okay i guess porque no sabía como decir que no, tipo no estaba acostumbrada a ello, ni siquiera parecía una posibilidad

en fin dia en woldingham al principio era callada me imagino que al principio era la que todos decían aw es tímida pero cuando abría la boca era para decir algo muy descabellado o para largar alguna ocurrencia. empezó a agarrar confianza y dejó sus rarezas a relucir. me imagino que se juntaba con todo el mundo y en las fiestas era la persona que era divertido verla borracha como en esa escena de the perks of being a wallflower que charlie se come un brownie y le dan una malteada y todo el mundo se sienta a reírse de las rarezas q está diciendo drogado

tenía el cabello laargo y castaño y los ojotes así que me imagino que era la personificación de maggie la mosca con onda tipo sólo tenía una apariencia como diferente?? pero no me la imagino siendo particularmente atractiva o bonita como sus compañeras, por lo menos así se percibía ella misma

la cosa es que me imagino que en el salón en el último año ya, todos los profesores conocían a sus papás por el hecho de que estudiaron allí y entendían que ella seguiría el mismo camino yéndose por la medicina. abiertamente nunca decía que no, así que creo que los compañeros también pensaban lo mismo de que ah no dia será doctora o algo así seguro... y tipo habían ocasiones en las cuales les preguntaban a todo el mundo qué querían estudiar y dia decía "la verdad no sé si quiero estudiar quiero unirme al circo o algo así" y todos se reían pensando ah yes otra ocurrencia de dia y ella como que jaja... pq en realidad lo decía en serio u_u

AH SI porque en el internado volvió a practicar gimnasia y a subirse en la cosa esa de la tela no sé si lo dije pero sí recuperó eso

bueno sí el saber que todo el mundo también la percibía como la imagen que los padres crearon para ella fue su último empujón a acceder a estudiar en la universidad electa por sus padres, optando por la rama de pediatría. pero la verdad es que le aburría un montón compartir con futuros doctores, odiaba los vibes de la carrera y no era algo por lo que sintiera vocación. imaginense someterse a estudiar medicina sin tener la vocación im-- un día en el campus le ofrecen un trabajo como modelo pq tiene una apariencia muy excéntrica y ella está como *se encoge de hombros* okay i guess y lo hace

una cosa lleva a la otra y de la nada está booking un montón de trabajos de high fashion, contratada por una agencia reconocida, viajando a fashion weeks y cuando su propia imagen se empieza a escapar de sus manos es cuando le dice a los papás bueno chicos eeee al final siempre no voy a ser doctora y los papás como melodía valentina de la rosa ramirez de loughrey pero tú te estas volviendo loca?!??!?!?? esto no es lo q nos representa como los de louhgrey q te pasa y todo loq ue hicimos apra ti quÉ. y ELLA BUENO NO PUEDO NO SÉ Q HACER AYUDA y los papás mira te vamos a dejar de mantener pq no podemos permitir que esto ocurra esto se está saliendo de control te queremos esperamos q l oentiendas y ella como okay ESTOY ATRAPADA . porque la verdad es que depsués de un rato descubrió que DETESTA SER MODELO lo dETESTA y se siente casi tan vacía como lo hacía estudiando medicina . increíble la vida como es. la cosa es que gana muy bien, lo suficiente para vivir con los mismos lujos de cuando sus padres la mantenían, entonces está practicamente atada al trabajo. además, es su única oportunidad de construir un brand ella sola para ella misma y hacer lo que ella quiera eventualmente.... sólo tiene q pasar por esto primero

en fin ahora llega a la reunión con cabello rubio y es modelo y fabulosa eso es todo y bueno está feliz pq siente que a través de sus amigos puede conectar con todo lo que le hacía feliz y descubrirse a sí misma ene ste viaje

Director Tom Shankland: From Punisher to Period Drama

The BAFTA and Emmy-nominated director talks about keeping Zen whilst battling a storm on Les Misérables and his chameleonic approach to genres

This month saw director Tom Shankland’s epic six-part BBC adaptation of Les Misérables draw to a close. Featuring an all-star cast including Olivia Colman, Lily Collins, Dominic West, and David Oyelowo, the songless adaptation breathes fresh contemporary relevance into the 19th century tale. No stranger to painting vivid worlds and bringing timeless stories and characters to life, Tom is responsible for directing high-profile feature films and series such as The Punisher, House of Cards, Luke Cage, The Missing, and WΔZ.

In this interview, the director, who is represented by Great Guns for branded content, reveals how he and his committed cast conquered a myriad of challenges to bring the colossal project to life, and how he changes gears from sledgehammer gore to period masterpiece. 

Q> Your most recent work - the BBC adaptation of Les Misérables - stars an impressive British cast including Olivia Colman, David Oyelowo, Lily Collins and Dominic West. What was it like working with them?

Tom> Victor Hugo’s story features some of the most iconic characters in literary history. I always wanted our version to dig deep into what made these characters tick, whilst also making their world feel as viscerally real as possible. I didn’t want anything too stately or ‘chocolate-box’-y, it absolutely had to have grit and soul - something only possible with a cast who were prepared to go to some extreme places.

I vividly remember filming the sewer scenes on a freezing night in Belgium; Dominic West [playing Jean Valjean] hurling himself into the mud, rain and river, whilst carrying Josh O'Connor [playing Marius Pontmercy] on his back. They were a tough couple of days but Dominic looked so epic in those shots.

Similarly, Lily Collins [Fantine] told me that she was really up for being pushed - words every director loves to hear! With that instruction, as soon as she arrived from sunny California to our -10℃ set, I had the location staff switch off every heater in Fantine’s set so Lily would really feel the cold and the camera could pick up her breath.

Olivia Colman [Madame Thenardier], one of the loveliest people in the world, was virtually in tears every time she had to do a scene where she beat Cosette. Whereas Lia Giovanelli, who played little Cosette, loved every minute!

Every actor dug incredibly deep every day and I marvelled at the way they shed all ego and completely disappeared into their characters and the world we were creating. They were the best bunch of people to have alongside you; I really could not have hoped for more from everyone who came on this adventure.

Q> This was a huge production with so many different variables. Did you encounter any interesting challenges during the process?

Tom> There were many, many challenges of shooting Les Misérables: the battles to protect the resources for the epic revolutionary scenes; coping with a monsoon storm in the middle of the day when shooting the Waterloo sequence; figuring out a way to write into the narrative a reason why our Enjolras had a hand injury when the actor, Joseph Quinn, arrived on set having nearly lost his finger the week before, to name a few.

Generally, I like to think that we found ways to overcome and even make virtue of some of the challenges. I love the shots of the rain at Waterloo that the editor worked into the sequence and how we gave Enjolras a heroic side story to explain his injured hand. There was one day I remember though (with a slight shudder), where we couldn’t find a way around it. The little girl playing child Éponine just could not be persuaded to come to the green room to be filmed running around a tree, no matter what we tried. A brilliant little actress and truly such a sweet girl - it was just one of the days you can have as a six-year-old. We lost half a day’s filming and a massively important scene lay unfinished. Thankfully, two days later she was far jollier and the scene was completed - happy days! That was definitely the day I heard the First AD muttering 'Happy place! Happy place!' under his breath. All you can do in moments like that is be Zen.

Q> You’ve directed shows such as Marvel’s The Punisher, chilling-murder mystery The Missing and now Franco-period drama Les Misérables. How do you transition between such vastly different genres?

Tom> I love directing different types of material; partly to push myself as a director and also because I love being a perpetual film student. Fundamentally I ask the same questions of the material: how do I make this moment convincing; how can I make the audience care about the hero; what’s the most cinematic way to build this character’s world; where is the tension in this scene; and what am I trying to say? In that sense, it feels easy to move from one genre to another because the most important questions are always the same.

In some ways, the differences between The Punisher and Les Miserables are only superficial. The audience who love The Punisher want Frank Castle to explode into brutal action at some point but when Valjean unleashes hell in Les Misérables, I would be less likely to go in for big close-ups - whereas The Punisher fans would be furious if they didn’t see the gory results of a sledgehammer attack!

Q> You’re represented by Great Guns for branded content. What are the benefits of production company representation as an established industry figure?

Tom> I love being represented by Great Guns because, for me, it’s important to be somewhere where the people know much more about short-form filmmaking than me! I can bring my point of view and filmmaking experience but I love working with people who can help me be very forensic about every detail in a frame - something that is absolutely crucial for short-form. I love this medium, and like all filmmaking adventures, you need the right gang around you. I do wish the auteur theory was entirely true, but, alas, it’s only partially true.

Q> What has changed most in the industry since your debut?

Tom> At film school, me and most of my fellow film school brats wanted to go out and make indie films; TV didn’t seem like a very exciting place for a filmmaker to express themselves. High-end commercials seemed exciting and exotic with their vast budgets and such opportunity to express cinematic flair. They also had a great track record of supplying visually interesting directors to Hollywood, of course.

Cut to the present and these days a ‘commercial’ could be a ten-minute slice of somebody’s life shot on a smart-phone; bingeing a great TV series could be much more artistically and narratively fulfilling than 10 trips to the cinema; and maybe the best film of the year, Roma, was made for Netflix!

All of these changes are revolutionary and a massive tectonic shift for all three industries. I’m sure there are downsides too but I’m a glass half-full kind of person; I tend to think all these changes open up lots of new possibilities for different kinds of storytelling.

Q> Between genres, periods, and styles, you’ve built up a versatile portfolio... Where do you draw inspiration from?

Tom> I’ve been very lucky to have had the chance to work across very different genres; a conscious quest I’ve been on since film school. I arrived at National Film and Television School obsessed with Ingmar Bergman and convinced that I was going to be a writer-director of angst ridden art films. Yet somehow, I ended up leaving film school having made a super-violent five-minute horror film and a ‘true crime’ murder story as my graduation film - both of which got me lots of attention and interest. I did get to do my ‘personal’ film in the second year and it was absolutely one of the least successful things I’ve ever done; whereas the filmmaking in the two-genre shorts was much better (and confusingly, felt more personal).

This got me thinking about my childhood love of Westerns, musicals, thrillers, comedies, and classic Golden Age Hollywood entertainment made by directors like Howard Hawks and Billy Wilder, who jumped between genres all the time. You can see and feel the personalities of these directors in each of those different styles, even though their agenda was just to entertain the audience. I really think there is something liberating and joyous about not trying too hard to be self-consciously personal.

To be frank, I love losing myself in whatever story I am telling. Wherever you go, there you are...

Celebrated horror director Joe Begos brings us BLISS his latest pounding feature, that’ll drag you to the deprived underbelly of L.A. with the spiraling artist Dezzy Donahue, whose struggle for inspiration becomes complicated by her mounting bloodlust. Based on a tragic, true story Lucas Heyne’s MOPE follows two best friends, and low-end porn actors, who sought fame but gained infamy in connection to a gruesome, on-set murder. ‘How do I do this? Do I go over the top? Do I do a just crazy psychotic thing?’—How Riley Keough’s dad handled his acting debut in the latest horror from the Austrians behind Goodnight Mommy.

Park City, Utah: The film at Sundance 2019 that made the biggest impression on this humble Letterboxd correspondent was undoubtedly The Lodge, the new horror from Austrian directors Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala. The film is the pair’s English-language debut, and an eagerly anticipated follow-up to their acclaimed 2014 film, Goodnight Mommy.

Like Goodnight Mommy, The Lodge predominantly takes place in one location. In this case, it’s an isolated, cosy, wooden family holiday home next to a frozen lake. It’s owned by divorcé Richard (Richard Armitage from The Hobbit trilogy), who is father to teen Aiden (Jaeden Lieberher from It, credited here as Jaeden Martel) and the younger Mia (Lia McHugh).

Richard’s children are resentful of the new woman in their father’s life, Grace (Logan Lucky and American Honey actress Riley Keough). Aiden and Mia are doubly suspicious of Grace due to her having been, as a child, the soul-surviving member of a doomsday cult that committed mass suicide, a subject Richard writes about.

Wanting his kids to bond with Grace, Richard arranges for the three of them to spend some time alone together at the lodge before Christmas while he stays in the city to finish up work for the year.

As Grace, Aiden and Mia get to know each other in the lodge, strange things start occurring. While The Lodge is wonderfully creepy on multiple levels, what really sets it apart is its artful composure and excruciating tension, making it a work that goes far beyond Franz and Fiala’s impressive debut.

Following the Sundance press screening, Letterboxd asked Franz and Fiala if there were any lessons they learned about subverting audience expectations from the twisty Goodnight Mommy that they may have applied to this film.

“We try not to overthink it in a way,” responded Fiala. “It’s not all that planned. I think we always try to make a film that we ourselves would like to see, and we try to take it seriously. But it’s not that we think: okay, we did this before, this time the audience is gonna expect this or that or something like that. I think we always try to stay true to the material and the characters.”

“And there are similarities to our first one,” Fiala continued. “I think mainly because it’s the things that interest us in life. It was not like a conscious decision: it worked the first time so we’re gonna do it like that this time. It was just like, we’re still interested in those questions of family and trauma and bondage in a way. Emotional bonds. Trust that’s been shaken, I think that’s something that really interests us.”

“This time it’s also about religion, in a way, which we didn’t do last time,” added Franz. “The script, it was offered to us by Hammer Films, it was originally written by a Scottish screenwriter [Sergio Casci], and so we kind of re-wrote it in a way, because the ending didn’t work. For us.”

That’s right, The Lodge was produced by Hammer, the legendary British horror production outfit best known for churning out Dracula and Frankenstein films starring Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing in the 1960s and 70s. The brand was resurrected a decade or so back and has released about half a dozen films since then, including Let Me In (2010), Wake Wood (2011) and The Woman In Black (2012). With The Lodge, a British-produced film directed by two Austrians, shot in Canada and set in the United States, Hammer may just have its first modern classic on its hands.

Franz went on to emphasize the importance of the shooting location in telling their story. “For us, the house, architecture, it’s like a character. And as it was our first English-speaking film, you know, it’s a lodge, it’s three persons or four actors and it’s something you can handle in a way, or you hope you can at least.”

Some of the creepiest parts of the film are Grace’s flashbacks to her life in the aforementioned doomsday cult, the leader of which was her father. To make it even weirder, that cult leader is played by Riley Keough’s actual father, musician Danny Keough, in his first feature film role.

“We were desperately looking for a cult priest, and couldn’t find someone who would be perfect for the part,” explained Franz. “We were already shooting and in one of the breaks, Riley FaceTimed Danny and she wanted to introduce us. She turned the mobile [phone] around and said, ‘Look, this is my father,’ and Severin and I were like, ‘Oh, he’s the cult priest!’.”

Keough Sr was also present at the post-screening Q&A, and was asked what he drew upon in playing a cult leader.

“Um, I grew up in a cult,” was Keough’s response. “So I had eight years of study. We had a really wicked guy that… yeah, so… when they asked me to do it I thought ‘How do I do this? Do I go over the top? Do I do a just crazy psychotic thing?’ But that’s never the case, it’s always a Jesus-like syndrome, I don’t know what you’d call that. Underneath is a real hatred. So what I tried to do during that role was just play this real sweet guy, but if you look closely enough, you can see that he really just wants to kill you.”

Indie specialist distributor Neon (Colossal, Gemini, I, Tonya) acquired The Lodge at Sundance and will release it theatrically later this year.
