spoilers under the cut i’m just missing them so bad right now.

my brain put something extra special in jason and reyna’s relationship in the mercury jason au.

despite growing up in the legion, jason has to claw his way to the top just to make centurion while reyna went from rankless legionnaire to an praetor. jason never ascends past centurion it’s just centurion to pm.

their time in the legion marks them both being endlessly exploited. without the son of Jupiter privileges, jason’s just cannon fodder. just another mercury kid. reyna is literally drained like a resource thanks to her abilities. even when no one but jason knows.

they began dating ~four days before the siege on mount othrys because reyna needed to cement her place in the legion. because she loved him so that meant she liked him like that too, right? jason feels shitty about it and knows that she’s forcing herself but he’d do anything for her.

jason takes reyna to the underworld to take on the greek curse of achilles. when he thinks she’s drowned in the styx, jason freaks out and plans on drowning himself too because there would be nothing left for him at camp without her. keep in mind they’re the only friend the other person has. when he pulls her out of the river she cries out for her sister instead of him.

jason knowingly swaps places with percy. he’s in on his patron’s plans with as many details as she can spare him. the last person he sees before he goes missing is reyna. octavian says it’s him but it isn’t. he tells her he’s leaving (ostensibly to protect her) and not to look for him. he asks her not to look and she reluctantly obliges.

reyna’s his tether to his past life while without memories. and while he’s in that fugue state before hera airdrops him into nevada, he’s shivering and alone in a cave waiting for her to come and find him.

they can read each other better than anyone but struggle to understand themselves. basically, the number one hot messes of the century.

reyna and jason realizing they don’t have to live their lives for any one person… yes. their reconciliation arc in the third installment makes me want to cry. they just sit outside of the front door to the pm apartment they outfitted for jason and she puts her head on his shoulder and things finally feel right in jason’s life again. like he was missing something and now he isn’t floundering about without it. and reyna has her insane best friend back. 😭😭😭
