Melanoma BRAF Awareness Day: Signs and Treatment
Tumblr media
26th May is annually celebrated as Melanoma BRAF Awareness Day. It was started by Melanoma UK, an organization dedicated to raising awareness about Melanoma and supporting patients dealing with it.
According to National Cancer Institute, Melanoma is “Melanoma is a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in melanocytes (cells that color the skin).”
Meanwhile BRAF according to Aim at Melanoma Foundation is “a gene that tells your cells how to grow. A BRAF mutation is a change in a BRAF gene. That change in the gene can lead to an alteration in a protein that regulates cell growth which could allow the melanoma to grow more aggressively. Approximately half of the melanomas carry this mutation and are referred to as mutated, or BRAF-positive. Melanomas that do not carry the mutation are referred to as wild-type or BRAF-negative melanomas.”
The primary objective of this day is to increase awareness of Melanoma and its prevention through advocacy, education, and research. Other objectives include supporting conversations between patients and doctors, giving voice to people diagnosed with Melanoma, and empowering patients through information.
Melanoma is one of the most serious types of skin cancer. As per GLOBOCAN 2020, Melanoma is the 32nd most common type of cancer in India and saw 3,916 cases, out of which 2,296 met their demise.
Tumblr media
Often, the first signs of melanomas are a change in the size of moles appearing on your body and/or the development of a new pigment or unusual growth on your skin. They can develop anywhere on your body but are usually found in areas exposed to the sun. In people with darker skin tones, Melanomas can be expected to develop in areas like the soles of the feet, the palm of your hands, or fingernail beds, but that is not always the case.
Moles with asymmetrical shapes, irregular borders, uneven distribution of colors, changing diameters, or regularly evolving are often associated with Melanoma. So it is often recommended to consult a doctor when you see a change in any of the moles appearing on your body. Swollen, Itchy, Sore, Rusty, or Bleeding moles are also signs of Melanoma.
If you are facing difficulties in your finances, there are various NGOs you can approach for monetary assistance. Here are some of the NGOs currently operating in India for cancer patients.
Melanoma can be deadly and dangerous. Hence, it is necessary to raise awareness about this disease, especially in India, where there needs to be more awareness when it comes to skin diseases. So, Please share this article with your friends and family. Patients can also start fundraising pages on Child Help Foundation and Filaantro.
Thank you for reading this article and we hope that you have found a new perspective when it comes to skin cancer.

all of those moans lando let out on his stream made me think about him being a bratty little braf and so to punish him, you won't let him fuck you, but you let him dry-hump you while he spoons you from behind
and he's just whimpering and panting into your ear, and he's begging you to let him slide inside of you and he's swearing he'll be so good for you. but you don't give in so he iust cums in his pants with the neediest little whine 😭
PLEASE🫠🫠🫠
his face nuzzled into the crook of your neck, lips brushing against your skin as he keeps whining your name mixed with 'please' and 'promise'
and the pathetic wee whimper he lets out when you start grinding your ass against him, listening to the way he cries out when he is all sensitive after he's just came

i'm not a fluent welsh speaker by any means (i went to a second language welsh school where we only got taught our names, hobbies, age, year group, and what we do ok the weekends to recite in the oral exam, which quashed my enthusiasm by a fair bit) but sometimes i find welsh words fitting more to the situation - like, when the weather's sunny but a bit windy, i don't think "oh, it's nice/fine today!", i think "oh, it's braf!" because it feels better. i don't know why, but that's just how it's always clocked to me
Interesting! I mean that makes sense to me, but then I'm both bilingual and synaesthetic
Though actually it's just occurred to me that a shit ton of my Anglo-Welsh friends do the same thing...

41 days.
It took 41 days between the new law allowing Swedish police to set up visitation zones before the first one popped up.
In Hageby, a poor part of the town of Norrköping (which is described on Swedish wikipedia as one of the most "immigrant-dense" parts of the municipality), police may now stop and search any person or vehicle, regardless of circumstances. Frida Braf, the local police chief, told Swedish state broadcaster SVT that they will "consider several factors, e.g. police intelligence information, time of day, behaviour and whom the individual is associating with". My translation from here.
The visitation zone will be in place for 2 weeks, the maximum allowance in the new law.
I can't say I'm surprised. By the timing, the background, the history of the place.
This doesn't make Sweden into an authoritarian police state.
But like. When should I worry? How many bricks are in a wall?
Me, I'm lily white and as Swedish as a Maypole. I've never felt like a stranger here. But I've heard the stories my Kurdish and Bosnian friends can tell. I have family who work for the police. They seem okay. But how can I tell from up here on Mt. "Ethnically Swedish"?
Here's hoping I'm making a mountain of a molehill. Hoping the slope is actually quite dry, thank you. But we have issues with race in Sweden, and this isn't the first time I've felt like this.

Doc buon pomeriggio, ho fatto ago aspirato per un nodulo alla tiroide
Mi puoi aiutare a capire il referto in modo sintetico?
CAMPIONE INVIATO
tiroide - prelievo agoaspirato ecoguidato nodulo lobo dx
tiroide - esame citologico su agoaspirato ecoguidato
citologia - esame citologico
NOTIZIE CLINICHE:
Nodulo iso-ipoecogeno, a contorni netti, Ø mm 20, del lobo tiroideo dx.
REFERTO
MICROSCOPIA
Siapec*.
Categoria diagnostica: TIR3A (Indeterminate lesion, lower risk) sec. SIAPEC-AIOM-AME-AACE
Italian consensus for the classification and reporting of thyroid cytology. (J Endocrinol Invest Jun;37(6):593-9)
Grazie in anticipo.

Welsh Vocab 1 - Geirfa Cymraeg 1
[Plain text: Welsh Vocab 1 - Geirfa Cymraeg 1. End PT.]
Before I start, I would like to specify that all these posts are in a South Wales dialect of Welsh.
The Welsh Alphabet - Y Wyddor Cymraeg
[Plain text: The Welsh Alphabet - Y Wyddor Cymraeg. End PT.]
a, b, c, ch, d, dd, e, f, ff, g, ng, h, i, j, l, ll, m, n, o, p, r, rh, s, t, th, u, w, y
Greetings - Cyfarchion
[Plain text: Greetings - Cyfarchion. End PT.]
Shwmae/Helô - Hello
Bore da - Good morning
Prynhawn da - Good afternoon
Noswaith dda - Good evening
Nos da - Good night
Sut wyt ti? / Sut dych chi? - How are you? (Note - "ti" is the informal & singular you, "chi" is the formal & plural you)
Croeso - Welcome
Hwyl/Hwyl fawr - Goodbye
Pronoun sentence starters
[Plain text: Pronoun sentence starters. End PT.]
Dw i'n - I am
Rwyt ti'n - you are (Informal/singular)
Mae e'n - he is
Mae hi'n - she is
Mae nhw'n - they are
Rydych chi'n - you are (Formal/plural)
Dyn ni'n - we are
(Rydych chi'n can be shortened to dych chi'n, Rwyt ti'n often becomes just ti'n. Dw i'n is technically Rydw i'n but is often shortened)
Days of the week - Dyddiad yr Wythnos
[Plain text: Days of the week - Dyddiad yr Wythnos. End PT.]
Dydd Llun - Monday
Dydd Mawrth - Tuesday
Dydd Mercher - Wednesday
Dydd Iau - Thursday
Dydd Gwener - Friday
Dydd Sadwrn - Saturday
Dydd Sul - Sunday
for nights, "nos" would replace "dydd", so Monday night would be Nos Llun. (This mutates for Gwener - i.e. Nos Wener rather than Nos Gwener)
Months - Mis
[Plain text: Months - Mis. End PT.]
Ionawr - January
Chwefror - February
Mawrth - March
Ebrill - April
Mai - May
Mehefin - June
Gorffenaf - July
Awst - August
Medi - September
Hydref - October
Tachwedd - November
Rhagfyr - December
(Mawrth being March and Dydd Mawrth being Tuesday is I think because Mawrth is also the word for Mars, as in the planet. So the month and the day are named for the planet.)
Other Essentials
[Plain text: Other Essentials. End PT.]
Diolch - Thank you
Plîs / os gwelwch yn dda - Please (Os gwelwch yn dda literally translates to "if you see fit", so it's more of an "if you please" and is a more polite/formal version.)
Diolch yn fawr - Thank you very much (Literally "big thank you")
Esgusodwch fi - Excuse me
Mae'n flin da fi - Sorry (Fully - mae'n flin gyda fi, literally - Sorry is with me, however "flin" on its own does not really translate to sorry)
Weather - Y Tywydd
[Plain text: Weather - Y Tywydd. End PT.]
The weather is feminine so "it is" for weather is usually "mae hi'n", but this can be shortened to "mae'n".
Mae'n.... - It is....
.... bwrw glaw/eira/cesau - .... raining/snowing/hailing
.... heulog - .... sunny
.... braf - .... fine
.... stormus - .... stormy
.... wyntog - .... windy
.... gymylog - .... cloudy (Gymylog is the mutated form of Cymylog - it mutates because mae hi'n is feminine)
.... oer - .... cold
.... boeth - .... hot
Heddiw means today, so "it is sunny today" would be "Mae'n heulog heddiw)
That's all for this post, I'm not listing vocabulary in any particular order, I am quite literally just dumping vocab off the top of my head until the post seems long enough. There are nuances and exceptions that I don't really know how to convey in some circumstances, because to me they seem natural since to some extent as I was raised surrounded by the Welsh language. These posts weren't intended for people to learn Welsh from, but if you're already learning and have other resources for grammar, mutations, pronunciation, etc. these may be helpful. Anyway, unnecessarily long disclaimer over.

long story short our vet suspects our dog PJ has bladder cancer and I am not handling it well at all
I picked up the urine sample kit to do a cadet BRAF screen over the weekend and honestly I’d rather stick my hand in a blender than learn my angel girl has cancer
It’s not confirmed yet so I guess I am freaking out prematurely but like. I hate this so much.

A Bioinformatics Roadmap for Drug Prioritization from Cancer Genomics Data
Tumblr media
Cancer is a complicated disease brought on by the interaction of various informational layers. Tumor origin, the appearance of genomic and transcriptomic variations, or interactions with the microenvironment are all factors that contribute to the difficulty of treating tumors. With reference to the types of tumor heterogeneity and the accessible data from next-generation sequencing, the current methods for selecting a therapy are presented in this article. The study elucidates the potential integration of bioinformatics in precision oncology.
Cancer is an evolving dynamic disease that becomes more diverse as the disease progresses. One of the core reasons why medication doesn’t work and patients relapse has been identified as its heterogeneity. A burgeoning area called precision oncology aims to create personalized cancer treatments for every cancer patient using data from epidemiological, clinical, and omics sources. Targeted therapies are considered an anchorage of precision oncology. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has authorized 214 predictive biomarkers by the year 2022, up from 39 in 2013, as a result of ongoing attempts to identify novel predictive biomarkers of anticancer drug effectiveness. BRAF V600E inhibitors in melanoma patients and imatinib to target BCR-ABL translocations in chronic myeloid leukemia are common examples of targeted therapies.
