Two rival fixers cross paths when they're both called in to help cover up a prominent New York official's misstep.

The childish bickering between the two is going on for too long and almost put me off. Thankfully, it more or less stops in the second half. Quiet reading-glasses gags are much more enjoyable.

The story is decent, and Clooney and Pitt are still watchable. Austin Abrams gives a good, constrasting performance. Jagannathan also provides an energy boost.

Overall some solid home entertainment. I just wonder how it would've turned out with less emphasis on "comedy".

Babylon🎬💃

"Babylon" (2022) by Damien Chazelle is a love declaration to cinema but also call out to the darkness behind it.

I absolutely loved this movie. From beginning to end it was a visual masterpiece and I was never bored. The first half of the movie was stunning and the second half was devastating. And can we talk about Margot Robbie? She is an absolute star and her chemistry with Diego Calva was out the charts. On another note, the score of this movies was too good, I recommend everybody to go listen to Voodoo Mama right now! I guarantee it will change your life.

Damien Chazelle is a genius, this movie has so much passion to it and lives up to his other two movies I've watched of him before, Whiplash and La La Land (my favorite movie ever!!!)

If you are someone that loves the art that is cinema, put this movie in your watchlist

Next up on the Brad Pitt marathon was Interview With The Vampire and as much as I would love to recreate all the foods there, I don’t think its legal to cook humans in this country…

SO WE'RE MAKING RATATOUILLE

I've actually been wanting to make this for a while but didn’t have the time, so ofc midnight was the perfect time to try this out

I didn't buy all the ingredients from the website, but the ones I did get were:

2 eggplants

9 tomatoes

12 ounces zucchini (about 2)

2 red bell (or other) peppers

2 white onions

1 shallot

1/4 to 1/2 cups of olive oil

2 to 4 tablespoons of dark balsamic vinegar instead of white

2 teaspoons chopped fresh thyme, optional

1 teaspoon kosher salt plus more to taste

And freshly cracked pepper

I chopped up everything into varying chunks (around 1 inches for each of them) and piled it all into my pans then seasoned it with some salt. I underestimated how big the pile would be so I had to get another pan :/

In another, smaller bowl, I whisked the olive oil, vinegar, thyme, and 1 teaspoon of salt and poured it all over the vegetables

I put both pans into the oven and roasted them at around 204° Celsius for 47 minutes to make it just a bit more cooked. So now that some of the veggies' juices released and shrunk down, I removed the pans from the over and gave them a stir before putting them back in to cook for another 3 hours since my pans was pretty loaded with veggies

I did this while also stirring them in-between 35 minute intervals to really mix them. I kept doing this til all the vegetables were tender and soft, and the juices started peaking near the top.

And then voila~

10/10 would recommend, I can't wait to have this for brekkie tomorrow today

I totally agree with you that it feels like a weird mockumentary/very meta because they're filming during actual races with the actual drivers there whose terrible race weekends are being immortalized in a movie.

However, my additional two cents: If they completely made the movie from scratch and everything was a re-creation - no real F1 drivers or cars, etc. they'd have to have multiple fake F1 cars made to race each other, multiple actors cast for other driver roles, and honestly? I wouldn't trust them to make it good LOL. It would probably be full of super fake looking cars and completely wrong racing lines and actors who don't look like they could fit in an F1 car. At least currently it looks very real, even though it's almost too real.

Also, sadly, I know we're all criticizing this so far, but ultimately this movie isn't made for us. It's again made for people who know nothing or very little about F1. Brad uttering the words 'build it for combat' told me everything I needed to know. For viewers who aren't into F1, I'm sure it will seem like a very impressive and accurate looking movie.

All we will get out of the movie is pointing out everything they got wrong, and being in the know of easter eggs when real F1 drivers/information is shown.

As F1 fans I think we unfortunately have to lower our expectations.

i never had expectations to begin with but are we sure non f1 fans would tune in? like yes, brad pitt is an appealing factor for the middle aged audiences but if a movie has no clear plot, no extensive marketing, and no clear word of mouth recommendation effect, the title could get easily lost once released.

what's being proven now is that movies that do well in the box office need to build a momentum, a FOMO effect in the viewer that makes the screening of the movie an event they cannot miss.

if the f1 movie does not step up its game in that sense, i dont see it doing well enough to break even. especially when the drivers themselves (that could be a big marketing force if used well), dont seem too onboard with the movie lol

A tale of outsized ambition and outrageous excess, it traces the rise and fall of multiple characters during an era of unbridled decadence and depravity in early Hollywood.

Maybe as a result of lowered expectations I enjoyed it more than I thought I would after the somewhat negative reviews.

It still feels excessive but there were some captivating scenes like the parallel movie making montage and crazy ones like the rattlesnake fight.

And maybe less would've been more, but to follow the story arcs of Manny, Nellie, Jack, Sidney and Lady Fay wasn't uninteresting.

I wonder if Olivia Wilde's role at some point was meant to be more substantial.

every time i watch house md i’m reminded of the time my brother, before he got me into the show, recommended a movie to me and when i googled it i said ‘oh! wow so many famous actors are in this!’ and then was greeted by a blank look when i proceeded to list them off. so then i said ‘do you seriously not recognise any of these people??’ and he said ‘no’. so i asked him to name one famous actor he DID know and he said hugh laurie. then i asked him to name a female actor and he said jennifer morrison. at this point i said ‘wait is she also in house?? are you just naming actors from house’ and he said ‘well it’s the only show i watch’ and then continued to name house cast members until i asked him to name someone who WASN’T in house, at which point it took him 10 minutes to come up with a very tentative ‘brad pitt?’

As a David Thewlis enthusiast, what movies of his would you recommend?

That depends if you’re watching for the plot or just simp fodder tbh

Naked (1993) is number one for David simp fodder since it lives up to its name/you get to see him doing sexy things, but its a tradeoff since his character is fucking insufferable and the film is a weird, unpleasant slog, so any time he isn’t naked or being sexy will be 💀💀💀

Resurrected (1989) is pleasing because it features a babyfaced and very Remus-esque David, but the plot is kinda meh and depressing/upsetting, especially near the end

Vroom (1988) also has some very young and pretty David (with bright orange hair!!!) but the film itself is kinda boring since he’s not the main, so you have to put up with some shitty Clive Owen lovestory

Total Eclipse (1995) is worth a watch because even though David has the most atrocious hairstyle possible you get to see him being topped by a twink Leo DiCaprio 👌 I mean, they have the most toxic relationship you’ve ever seen, but it’s gay so

Gangster No. 1 (2000) features the most Daddy of Davids as a slick suit-wearing London gangster, but the plot is kinda trash and you have to endure Malcom McDowell’s godawful narration throughout the whole thing. Ironically, the narration mostly revolves around him simping for David, which, while relatable, doesn’t make it any less irritating

Veronika Decides to Die (2009) also has a Daddy-style (also very Remus-esque) David as a smart and bespectacled psychiatrist. The plot isn’t absolutely terrible from what I remember, but he’s not in it a great deal, so

If you care more about the film itself, or are looking for a good balance between plot and simp:

Divorcing Jack (1998) is my favourite David flick by far. Not only is it the best he’s ever looked, he has an Irish accent(!!!), his character is adorable and the film is hilarious. There’s also bonus Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy). Highly recommend 🙌

Seven Years in Tibet (1997) is also pretty good. David has an Austrian accent (can’t comment on its quality) and looks cute with a lil Remus moustache. My main takeaway from the plot is that David has superior rizz to Brad Pitt (unsurprising) but I remember being entertained

The Lady (2011) is also one of my faves. It’s based on a true story about a Burmese diplomat, in which David plays the most supportive and wholesome husband ever to Michelle Yeoh (whom I also love) 🥰

I’m Thinking of Ending Things (2020) is great, though again David’s not in it all that much

I also really love Life is Sweet (1991) despite him only being in it for about 5 minutes

Honestly though, most of his really great performances have been in television rather than film.
