      green optics watched as you walked in the room. suit covered your body more than usual. he noticed this ,, yet others were blind to it. he knew the reason behind it too ,, as others never bothered. he wasnt sure how to react for once ,, seeking to question what his brother would've done.

      he's eavesdropped enough to know the story behind it all. the screaming ,, the hurtful words ,, the hate and anger ,, blind rage and the pain. yet ,, he stood by the side and never spoke a word. knowing it was personal business and would come off as unsettling if he knew about it. for now ,, he'd play a part of this blind parade. he'll act as though he hasnt an idea of whats going on ,, even if he does know.

      he stuck close during the mission ,, not wishing to let you out of his sight. he could barely handle seeing you in such a weakened state ,, let alone have you become more harmed than you already are. he would drown in self blame ,, knowing you got hurt under his own watch. even though he already lets it happen every time you return to your shared house. with the other person you call your significant other.

      he doesn't understand why you let them do such acts against you. why you wont stand up for yourself and instead just take what they throw at you. green lights shined against your figure in the dark ,, tears embedded along your eyes yet none dared to spill over. as though a force field had prevented them from escaping. he knew why you wouldnt cry as well ,, just as he knew the reason for your cover ups. he wouldnt push though ,, he'd simply wait it out.

      " im here for you ,," he whispered reassurance ,, slightly hoping you'd cave in and seek help from him. yet you only gave a small nod and a tight smile ,, waving him off for the night and retiring. he watched as you walked down the sidewalk ,, the same path you took to your house ,, if thats what you could even call the place anymore.

      he didnt move ,, not yet that is. he waited until you were finally there ,, well past the front door and already dealing with the same thing. it was a loop ,, it seemed. he'd see you for the day and during the mission ,, he'd tell you he was here for you ,, then you'd go home to deal with your significant other. he pretended to be on a night patrol like always ,, pushing aside his own needs to know what happens next to you ,, even if he's already aware of it.

      he lingers outside ,, catching the slight yells of 'i hate you' and other profanities. the ache grows inside him ,, wishing he could reach out and pull you away from such a harmful environment. wishing he could cradle you next to him ,, treat you the way you deserve to be treated. though he doesnt make a move ,, optics staring through the window as he could see the shadows behind the blinds. the raised hand and the loud 'smack' that comes from it.

      he doesnt turn his head ,, he doesnt cast his sight away ,, instead he stays there and waits for you to finally come to him. not until well around 2am does it all stop ,, one shadow moving away from the small box of the window. taking that as his final cue ,, he continues on his 'patrol' and retires for the night. he questions himself in his mind ,, wondering why he doesnt just reach out to you himself. he seeks an answer that he cannot answer.

      its not till the next morning that news of what happened comes. the others are shocked ,, worried about the secret of your life you've kept locked. shadowmaru doesnt bat an eye ,, already knowing of what's happened. the one thing that does shock him is the news of your death ,, and your significant other already being taken into custody. he couldnt say a thing ,, optics fixated on the ground as he starts to spiral in his own thoughs.

      many times he's had the chance to help you ,, to save you from the torture ,, yet he never did a thing.
