boycott fatigue is actually the stupidest fucking thing ever because how in the ever loving fuck are you experiencing “fatigue” from not going to Starbucks. how is not watching rushed cgi on disney+ and not eating a breaded slime nugget at McDonald’s “fatiguing” you. genuinely how fucking dare this even exist as a concept. entire bloodlines, children, newborns are dying slow and bloody and all of these companies are giving Israel the money to do that. they’re using YOUR fucking money to do this. and look, practically every war has been funded out of our pockets by a means we can’t fight around. almost all of the food and drink we have in the states is owned by some large corporation that makes it fucking impossible to not give them money because they are the sole providers. I understand there are some things we can’t boycott because of our own needs. but this isn’t basic needs that we are being asked to boycott. it’s fucking Disney+ and McDonald’s and Starbucks and a whole slew of luxuries that you’re not only capable of living without, but would actually be better off entirely without.
there’s been a lot of talk about how privileged we are to only be witnessing this human rights atrocity through phones or news and being able to get away from it with a button click and that’s entirely real, but the fact that somebody out here just felt soooo inconvenienced by not going to a drive thru for overpriced garbage that they literally coined the phrase “boycott fatigue,” is probably the biggest load of privileged dog shit I’ve seen in the past few days. do you want to know who’s actually experiencing fatigue right now? the millions of displaced families in Gaza without homes anymore. without any clean water to drink because it’s either been poisoned by the Israelis or contaminated with their peoples’ blood. the children without enough food to get by, or without any food at all. the injured and sick and disabled Palestinians who don’t have access to any medical aid for themselves because their hospitals and fuel trucks are being bombed. these people who have absolutely nothing but each other, and not even that in the worst circumstances, who can only keep walking for days on end, hungry and thirsty and in pain and unable to do anything about it. that is real fucking fatigue.
I understand we’re all seeing war crimes and death and atrocities that nobody should ever have to see and yes it’s difficult to process, but the people of Palestine are experiencing these atrocities in real time, every day, every hour. every ten fucking minutes a child dies. They aren’t even asking for help anymore. They’re only asking to be witnessed and remembered and for us to stop going to places that actively fund their deaths and you’re saying you just can’t because you’re exhausted by not going to that place? I know we’re all born and raised in a consumerist hellscape but you seriously need to get a fucking reality check if offering the bare minimum support to a dying people is ‘fatiguing’ to you. Jesus fucking Christ.

Young people love to pretend they’d be revolutionaries and then come up with the lamest shit like boycott fatigue… like take a moment and think… also here’s a reminder that you don’t need to boycott anything outside of the official BDS list because a targeted boycott is effective boycott
Realistically focus on avoiding McDonalds, Starbucks, and Disney and getting others to boycott them with you. There are things you cannot avoid. Israel-American ties run deep and America is a capitalist hellscape. Stick to the main ones and switch to Palestine owned or supportive brands where you can (super easy for coffee, makeup, and fast food). Also you should’ve been pirating Disney by now anyway.

Personally I'm feeling the opposite of boycott fatigue.
Idk living in late stage capitalism and being constantly bombarded by the notion that you need this and this thing.
I think it's neat to just go, actually no I don't.
And these corporations don't know how to respond to that.
Because we're told we need this thing, we're told we need it and have to want it.
Oh you want me to buy this thing?
What if I... Don't.
I don't have to do this, I can do something else.
What if I buy something else that is both cheaper and doesn't actively support a genocide?
Wild.
Like genuinely it's such a wild concept to just go, hmm nope.
Oh there's a whole world out there and I can support small local businesses and get tasty stuff.
Sounds like a win win to me.
And just approaching it less from a I can't have this but a, what else is there.
When the writers and actors were on strike, people were finding other forms of entertainment, movies and TV shows that weren't by the studios being boycotted.
And it lead to the discovery of some real fun and cool things.
That people otherwise wouldn't have looked at.
It's like ooo what can I find today.
I'm not saying this to say oh look at me on my high horse, I'm perfect and everything I do and consume is completely ethical.
Because that's a lie.
But idk just wanted to add my two pennies.

The most important tool in your boycott toolkit is spreading knowledge and kindness. Find brands that serve alternatives locally, yes, but also consider producing your own alternatives and offering them to your community. Capitalism's worst quality is its insular nature. If you have social anxiety, consider making something simple like potato chips and putting them in wax paper bags. You can leave these bags out for delivery drivers and possibly convince them to not support a company fueling genocide. From there, the influence can only grow. Prove to those who doubt that we are not the bloodthirsty antisemites they paint us as.

🇵🇸Don’t know why we’re boycotting ?
Here’s a summary ⬇️
I’m shocked so many people don’t know this information , please tell someone in your life if you know anyone who doesn’t know. All these companies understand is money. Get coffee from other places, get burgers from other and nicer places don’t wear puma and don’t renew your Disney plus subscription it’s too expensive anyway

Now that we’re all shitting on Starbucks for supporting a genocide, I can finally say this without getting attacked and eviscerated. Starbucks is literally so mid, there’s nothing that’s actually good enough to stand out. Every single time I went in the past I’ve had to order the same thing because their drinks are not that creative, and there’s nothing actually appealing. So if you’re talking about whatever tf “boycott fatigue” is because you “can’t get through the day without your Starbucks” let me tell you that yes you can, Starbucks is not that good, and there’s honestly other preppy coffee places that are leagues better than supporting a massive corporation that’s killing people.

To be blunt, this is a minimizing and privileged take.
If I'm not mistaken, the concept refers to people being sick of hearing that every little thing they buy is created by a bad company with ill intent that does terrible things to people, especially when all the other more ethical options are outside of the average wage worker's price range.
Because yeah, having to vet every purchase for malicious activity is exhausting. Many of us are just trying to survive, and we're doing what we can to actively avoid Nestlé and Starbucks and all the other garbage-tier companies. But the fact is that there's no ethical consumption under capitalism.
Damn near anything we buy will have some fascist or warmonger or slave owner behind it. Sometimes we just need to buy things. Sometimes the only affordable options are the ones made by those very companies. It doesn't mean we're not trying, but if we followed every proposed boycott we'd starve.
the idea or boycott fatigue is so funny to me. the fuck do you mean you're tired from not buying starbucks.

boycott fatigue is real, but for some people more than others. lower class people are going to have a harder time finding alternatives to products or services that are affordable to them than, say, an upper class person who just wants to buy overpriced coffee. disabled and chronically ill people are going to have a harder time finding the energy to prepare their own food instead of buying pre-made than their abled counterparts. i’m not saying it’s an excuse to give up boycotting, or that it’s at all comparable to the crimes that necessitate a boycott, just saying the disparity is real and i feel like people should acknowledge it—or better, offer help/resources—while still pushing for boycotts in spite of fatigue instead of saying it’s just wholly made up by people who want to get back to unconscionably purchasing from inhumane megacorps.

the thing about boycotts is that, no offense, the people for whom the boycott is easiest are the people whose contribution to it is the least significant. if you never buy anything from a company then yes, very easy to continue not buying from them, but also not a meaningful change to their sales data. if you buy from them occasionally then it’s probably still very easy to give up! but nowhere near the impact of a boycott by people who shop there daily or weekly and who are a reliable, substantial part of that company’s sales.
boycott fatigue isn’t about people who are continuing to not shop somewhere! it’s about the people who are going out of their way to the far grocery store, or giving up a favorite product or food, or changing a routine they’ve had for years, or putting in the time and effort to find potentially inconvenient or more expensive alternatives. yelling online about how actually people should be able to do these things with no effort or hassle and by the way the things you like actually suck anyway is unhelpful and demoralizing. the person who goes from buying mcdonalds every weekday to once every two weeks is a bigger change to their sales than the person who goes from buying mcdonalds twice a year to never. sorry.

I may not be able to stay home from school for an entire week, but you know what I am going to do?
I'm not going to buy from major brands.
I'm not going to scroll away from Palestinian content and voices.
I'll NEVER break the damn boycott.
I'll learn even more about the conflict than I already do.
I'll listen to Palestinians when they tell me what to boycott.
I'll uplift content creators supporting Palestine.
I'll never stop talking about Palestine, no matter how "uncomfortable" it makes people.
You should be uncomfortable with the fact that thousands of generations are dying and yet you're whining because you can't go a single day without your "starbies". You should be uncomfortable seeing poor women, mothers, grandmothers, daughters, wives, grieving the loss of their innocent babies, husbands, friends, and family.
January 21st - January 28th 2024.

Palestine is being massacred, and it's important to condemn the companies that are funding the suffering through boycotts and action. That being said, you are not a failure if you are experiencing boycott fatigue or you have to purchase a boycotted product for whatever reason. We live in consumerist societies, and unfortunately it is very hard to fully separate yourself from major corporations. You should shop local and sustainable when you can, but there are things, like medication (Pfizer is on the list) that you have to bite the bullet on. Remember, any positive action counts. Boycotts do work. They can't use your money to warmonger if you don't give it to them. Divided we beg for peace, but together we bargain for a better tomorrow.

🇵🇸KEEP BOYCOTTING
Tumblr media
I promise you having these conversations about Palestine and why we’re boycotting to people you think won’t care has an impact. Maybe not all the time there will be those who won’t listen but I just spoke to a friend who is known for being obsessed with Starbucks , goes almost everyday, and I explained how they’re firing workers who speak out against Israel and that they are Pro Israel and he’s said he won’t go anymore! I was surprised but so happy I tried because I convinced someone. If everyone who follows me convinced one Starbucks fanatic they know to boycott Starbucks and everyone who saw THEIR repost convinced someone it adds up. It keeps adding up ! It matters
Keep boycotting !

tbc a boycott being unobtrusive shouldn't necessarily be the reason it's worth doing but in this case it's the reason i find the so-called "fatigue" people are claiming to be ridiculous
thinking about the "boycott fatigue" thing again and just marveling at how fucked up it is
