so when the show first came out, there was a lot of focus on how beth and borgov always found each other - like there's a magnetic force between them, they couldn't help but find one another, they were so drawn to one another without knowing it.

what i propose is: borgov actively seeking beth out in a crowd. he knows about this little chess virtuoso and he HAS to find her, HAS to see her - and the first time he does spot her across a crowded room, he knows he can't stop looking for her. in every crowded tournament he looks for her until he finds her. at the zoo in mexico he is so restless, her living in his mind, that he has to look for her out of the corner of his eye - and he finds her.

his wife's gentle hand on his elbow to get his attention back, his son's excited pointing distracting him briefly from the turmoil of thoughts in his head, big brown eyes and red hair and quick hands he shamefully looks for across a dozen chess sets until he finds her, sated briefly, but never for long.

I'm on my usual and somehow random TQG's rewatch and that press conference scene on episode 6, where the journalist asks Beth if she studies that game in Mexico that Borgov won (after she says she studies his games at night) and she says she does (especially that one) but she replies in Russian? That's all that's right in the world.
