Did you know!!! There's a family of scorpionflies called Boreidae, aka snow scorpionflies. They are flightless, live in boreal climates in the Northern Hemisphere, and are primarily active in the winter when snow is still on the ground. They heat their body not through ambient temperature, but by absorbing radiation produced by the sun and the electromagnetic fields of the earth. So they can be cozy even when the snow and ground around them are frozen.

If you ever happen to see one, don't pick it up! The sudden change in temperature from your hand can kill them.

FORMLINE SCORPION 🦂🌃

This piece was done as a contest entry for a local contest that unfortunately did not win. Because of that, I feel comfortable sharing it here. This was a pretty experimental piece and I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out.

This piece in question was based off the Northern Scorpion (Paruroctonus boreus), which is the only species of scorpion that lives in Canada and also known to glow a bright blue under UV light. (pictured below)

I'm kinda sad I didn't win, but I'm still proud of how the piece turned out. (Also this piece got finished around the end of October last year, so it's been on the backburner in terms of posting for a while lmao)

Fast Fauna Facts #24 - Snow Scorpionfly (Boreus hyemalis)

Family: Snow Scorpionfly Family (Boreidae)

IUCN Conservation Status: Unassessed

Most scorpionfly species are winged and (in males) possess long, flexible tails resembling scorpion stingers, but in this rarely-spotted terrestrial scorpionfly native to cold regions of northern and western Europe neither are present. In place of their wings Snow Scorpionflies have developed powerful hindlimbs that allow them to jump impressive distances (earning them the alternative name of "snow fleas" in parts of their range,) and as adults of this species are active only for a brief period in their range's late autumn/fall and early winter they use this ability to move across snow and hard frozen ground in search of food (mainly rotting plant matter, as the scarcity of other insects during the winter makes the carnivorous diet seen in most scorpionflies impractical.) Female Snow Scorpionflies (which can be distinguished from males by the spike-like ovipositors/egg laying "tubes" that extend from their abdomens) lay their eggs among dense moss, with their larvae feeding on moss until they're large and old enough to burrow underground and undergo metamorphosis.

Cissa laid in the dark. She couldn’t move, her hands tied to the bed post by her lover Boreus, eyes covered by a soft cloth. She moved slightly, inpatiently. “Patience,” he whispered, close to her ear. She jumped. His large, rough hand smoothed acroos her chest. “We had little chance to enjoy all of this.” “You scared me.” He laughed, quietly, a disembodied voice next to her ear. “I apologize.” “You don’t.” “True.” He gave her a kiss on her cheek. “Now, let’s see…” His fingers slipped across her throat and down her chest, touching her so softly as he could. Goosebumps raced across her chest, following the feather touch. Down at her nipples he paused, fingers circling around them slowly. “Those are lovely. Especially after I finish with them. Turn them all purple and pink.” Her arm jerked as a hot mouth wrapped around one of them, teeth grazing at the tip for just a moment. A small gasp escaped her, and then he and his mouth were gone again, leaving her in the dark. She could not hear him, she could not feel him. Nothing told her that he was still close to her or even in the same room. She only was able to wait. Then his fingers touched her thighs and she arched up in his hands, her thigh pressing into his hands. Again, he moved away and she hissed in displeasure. Another laugh from somewhere. And then his fingers slipped into her cunt. Cissa gasped, kicking her legs out, but he caught her leg with a chuckle. “Now, now, I will treat you well.” She could hear the smile in his voice. “Let me indulge myself a bit…”

Amaura Facts

-The scientific name for Amaura is "Amargasaurus boreus," which roughly translates to "northern bitter lizard"

-Amaura are an interesting mon for the fact that they were dinosaurs that lived on cold environments, instead of most dinos who lived in tropical environments. Because of that, they didn't have any predators

-The first Amauara fossil ever found was in the early 1900s (I'll link the post on her at the end)

-People have started breeding and resurrecting more Amaura and releasing them into the wild. Keep in mind that this is very bad and you shouldn't do this. The world isn't like what it was 100 million years ago and they are at a higher risk for diseases, overheating, and death

-Amaura are incredibly trusting Pokemon since they had no predators when they were alive. In modern arctic seas, they seem to have more

-These Pokemon are ancient relatives of Meganium and and Tropius

-A group of Amaura and Aurorus is called a Sail

-When they were most common, Amaura and Aurorus often lived in herds. When lost, they would make auroras as a signal to their group

-Amaura are/were nocturnal, and their large eyes helped them see in the dark

-Amaura eat tiny shrubs and vegetation under the snow

-Amaura and Aurorus went extinct because of a great warming that happened millions of years ago

-Their bodies are built to store as much fat as possible since they can often have trouble finding food

-While Amaura don't do well in warm temperatures, they're better at handling them more than other ice types because they can create cold temperature themselves

-It's a common misconception that Amaura and Aurorus were alive at the same time as Mamoswine. This is not true, with both of them being around at different ice ages

Behold! The Chaos party! This is a set if dnd characters I did for a campaign I did with me and my friends a while back. Through The Rabbit hole stars Brunhilde the monk nun played by @suitableheiress, Barbie the fairy barbarian played by @disasterstarr, Boreus the dragonborn cleric played by a friend of ours, Bones the aasimar rogue played by yours truly, and Gaius Brutus, Alice and Styx (these three being played by Reynie, our DM).

Brunhilde is a batshit german accented nun who beats the shit out of people with her bare feet. She's traumatized many and haunts people’s nightmares.

Boreus is a very tiny dragonborn who's whole family line is riddled with chaos magic but he just thought he sucked at being a wizard the whole time.

Barbie is if Barbie the doll needed to take anger management classes. She's also on a mission for money to collect for her plague stricken village.

Bones is your good ol scoundrel rogue, loud, proud and a traumatized destiny child. She's the one with the silver and blue color scheme.

Styx is Bones’ pirate Teifling counterpart who shares the destiny child trauma sentiment and the gay tension, and spent the first half of the campaign as a goose from hell. I came up with Styx but Reynie is the one who played her so she's like a collab character.

Alice the human ranger, is the only one in the party with the brain cell. She's the blonde with the bow and Boreus spent all of session 0 gushing over how badass she is.

And the beautiful bastard that is Gaius Brutus had me by the throat as I spent nearly 30 hours on their goddamn tattoos, wistful fuckin hair and bitch ass smirk. They're the ethereal looking Teifling by the by, they own a tavern and are like the party’s boss/sugar parent.

The Lords of Order (Warhammer 40K Concept/AU)

Chaos. Destruction. Death. War. These all are descriptions of the Warhammer 40K universe. There is no hope for any civilization there, especially when the forces of Chaos keep growing in masses. But what if… what if there were new factions that came to help establish order across the universe? Powered by the magic of new gods? Gods of not war, chaos, death, or tyranny? But Gods of Order?

These are the Lords of Order. And these are their Hordes. Their Factions. Their Armies.

The Lord of Tactics: Boreus

Boreus is the Lord of Tactics, Logic, and Planning. Thus she strategizes her every move. And there is no greater tactician. She is the opposite of Khorne in almost every way except for her incredible strength and power. Let none be deceived, she is a fighter and a warrior. Her many champions wield her greatest weapon, that of a Battle Axe. Her personal faction is simply called the Tacticians. Any Space Marine who comes to serve her is filled with the knowledge of every battle ever witnessed within their universe. Thus they are deadly on the field not for sheer power, but sheer intellect. They can plot every blow, every shot, every shout within milliseconds of stepping onto the battlefield. Their weapons of choice are battle axes and long ranged bolter.

The Lord of Alliances: Negis

Negis is the Lord of Alliances, Community, and Protection. She cares deeply for every single living life in the universe, and thus makes every move she can to protect the innocent. But like every god, she is a powerful foe to face. Negis’s magic is unparalleled, capable of ripping entire landscapes apart with a single swish of her hand. But seemingly her greatest form of magic is the curing of those who have fallen to Chaos. No matter how lost their soul, Negis’s magic is far greater. She can’t reverse the mutations, but she gives those mutations new meaning and new power. Her personal horde is called the Order of Redemption. Every servant of Chaos she cures becomes a part of this horde. They are given a new life, a new name, and a kind new leader to follow. These soldiers mainly come in the form of Space Marines. These soldiers of her horde are very advanced for how diverse they are. Negis’s troops all have the incredible gift of Regeneration, so things like the loss of limbs and even their heads mean NOTHING to them.

The Lord of  Protection: Vesskix

Vesskix is the god of Protection, Defense, and Leadership. She is the most outspoken of the Lords of Order, and has a bad temper. But Vesskix is an incredible leader, capable of leading incredibly successful campaigns to defeat the forces of Chaos. To take it up a notch she is a master of siege warfare and technology. She is vastly more intelligent than her fellow Lords of Order, and is capable of devising incredibly unorthodox plans that not even the best Necron tacticians can understand. Her personal army is called the Siege Masters, and she convinces members of the Iron Hands, Iron Warriors, Imperial Fists, and Salamanders to join her legion. They are gifted with incredible technology to help them build and advance their weapons and armors. The Siege Masters have more vehicles, Dreadnaughts, and just weapons in general.

The Lord of Honor: Kel

Vel is the god of Honor, Valor, and Trust. Kel is seen as the weakest of all her fellow Lords of Order, but in truth she is the most powerful, preferring to keep quiet and only speaking when she feels like something must be done and must be done fast. Kel has no quarrel with being a bit sassy as well, willing to go off on anyone. She is the only Lord of Order who had a face to face interaction with one of the Chaos Lords, that being Khorne. A World Eater marine present to witness states that even Khorne seemed uneasy at seeing Kel. Kel’s legion is called the Honorbound. The marines here are hand picked by Kel and her chosen “Primarch.” They are the most honorable and respectful Space Marines from across all the legions. When they join her legion, they gain enhanced sense of their previous ones. Runes and Glyphs form on their armor and weapons, giving each Marine a unique playstyle compatible with their personality and skills!

Corvid Tournament Corvus Bracket Round 1.1: Forest Raven vs Relict Raven

Forest raven (corvus tasmanicus): Also known as the Tasmanian raven, it is found in Southeast Australia, mostly Southern Victoria. It is the only corvid with established populations in Tasmania. It is all black and adults have white irises. It is the largest Australian of the genus corvus with a wingspan of 91-113cm/36-44in. Like most ravens, it has a croak-like caw but also has a distinct drawn-out final vocalization. Also like other corvids they form breeding pairs and are omnivorous, thought the Forest raven tends to scavenge more than some and is even known to attack small birds such as the Little penguin. Its conservation status is listed as “least concern."

Relict raven (corvus (tasmanicus) boreus): Also known as the New-England raven, they are a subspecies of the Forest raven and consists of populations that reside in the Australian state of New South Whales. Aside from regonality, there does not seem to be too large of a difference between these birds, but I had to give the subspecies a fighting chance!

"T-that's..." Boreus stammers, frozen more by the question than the everlasting snow. "....It's just my heritage. I'm not fully a Ninetales. Happy?"

Elsera hears the sound of his heartbeat rise and fall. His emotions enter clear into their mind, echoing. Surprise. Panic. Deception. But also... honesty? Elsera hums in thought about the contradicting emotions. What Boreus says and feels always don't seem to quite match up everytime they interact. Intrigued by this paradox, Elsera has completely moved on from remembering the painful memories relating to their missing parts.

You've mentioned somewhere before that in your AU, Arktos is partially "Human" (at once)...Gotta ask but like, was Arktos once a Human in your version of Tabaluga? Or is there more backstory to him in your adaptation/au?

Ngl, I heard that in the original album and in the musicals, it's stated that he's an Ancient Year Old Snowman.

Whenever I imagine Arktos as a Human, I think people tend to picture him like Jack Horner from the Shrek franchise or Batman's Penguin but I personally see that if Arktos was Humanized, I'd like to imagine him looking like either Governor Ratcliffe or Alameda Slim (both of which are Disney Villains from Different Disney Movies like Pocahontas and Home On The Range). Just an Evil Santa Claus if you ask Me, lol.

Yeah, Arktos was human once, but my friend and I didn't discuss how he came to this world and why.

In my mind he could've been an inventor, good with machinery, but very bad with people. He created something that allowed him to travel to a different dimension and ended up in a magical world that he later on decided to conquer.

The part of "Ancient Year Old Snowman" of Arktos comes from Boreus - a force of nature that is as old as the world itself. Also, Arktos killed all the other dragons, so basically he can be considered ancient, living in this world for hundreds of years.

I agree with you, I don't really see him like Jack Horner. In this AU he's pretty serious and sometimes has anger issues XD. Nothing too funny about a guy who enslaves people, tries to destroy nature and wants to murder a child.

I would like to keep his human appearance something of a mistery to everyone (and it's kinda lazy and obvious that I don't have a design for him lmao). In legends it's often only his silhouette described:

"It was a rather tall creature, towering over our world. A shadow of death fell upon the life itself wherever it set foot. It walked only on its back legs, holding itself upright with an air of pride and judgment..."

-her camera has a name apparently and its Monsieur Verite *how cute*

-Elemental skill applies "Snappy Sillhouette" to opponents caught within the viewfinder of her Kamera, during the effect's duration it will intermitedly deal cryo dmg. Holding the skill strenghtens these effects and applies "Focused Impression" to opponents instead

-Elemental Burst creates a field that continuously restores HP to party members within its range. Monsieur Verite will intermitedly deal cryo during the burst's duration.

-When paired with Fontaine characters she receives a healing bonus

-When paired with nonfontaine characters she receives a cryo dmg bonus

-Zoom lens is an item for her but is further discused in an event section below (first person camera opportunities) "First Person Shutter"

- Graph Adversarial Technology Experiment Log (say that 10x fast...) -> a photo event and might be able to share with friends. At the end of the quest the travelers will get the *Zoom lens*. The Lens can be used with all Kamera's obtained in the game up to this point BUT can't be used in combat. ***However*** As discussed previously holding Charlotte's skill you can snap pics while fighting and in domains!

-Misty Dungeon: Realm of Water -> Domain leyline thing that has Trial and your characters to choose from if what you have doesn't meet the buffs

-Loch Urania -> strong wind storm rising from the middle of the lake, looks interesting

-New Fontemer Aberrant, the Xenochromatic Ball Octopus -> gets used to cleanse the mats

-with special device they can uses the Ball Octopus's abilities on land as well

-FINALLY SOME ANSWERS ON THAT TOWER ajkfgvbbg (I keep mistaking it for Storm Terrors lair area but it is very much not tha area so I really wanted to see what was up with this tower)
