1. What sort of content do you create, and what is the thing you’ve made that you’re most proud of?

I write stories. Strictly fanfic only; I don’t think I’m quite brave enough to try writing my own stuff. I’m trying to learn how to draw, but I’m a bit too much of a perfectionist so it’s slow going. I’m quite proud of my first CW Supergirl fanfic, make this place your home. I didn’t think people would like it so much.

2. What fandom(s) do you create for?

I’ve only posted things for CW Supergirl, and it’s just the one story plus a oneshot series for Supercorptober. But I’ve tried my hand at a couple other fandoms, namely Assassin’s Creed and Marvel’s X-23. But those aren’t fully fleshed out, more like writing exercises.

3. What is your current favourite ship (or brotp if you prefer), and how controversial is it?

Supercorp. Not sure if it’s controversial? Doesn’t feel like it.

4. For your answer to question 3, are they canon?

THEY ARE CANON IN MY HEART. Seriously though, they’re not explicitly canon on the TV series itself, but I know they were confirmed in the Batwoman comic by the writer.

5. What was your first fandom, and how old were you?

I know it’s controversial now, but the first fandom I really got obsessed with was Harry Potter. I grew up with those books, so since I was around 10, I guess? I’m not quite brave enough to get into fanfic writing for that fandom though, both because of the controversy and because the people over there can be kind of mean from what I’ve seen in comments. I’m sure it’s not everyone, but the Supercorp fandom has been so nice and I think I’m a bit spoiled.

6. What is your most unhinged fandom creation to date?

I haven’t written a lot, but maybe it’s the Spice Girls oneshot for my Supercorptober series? Or maybe the vigilante prompt for the same series, the one where Kara’s an office lunch thief. Idk.

7. Do you remember what started you off creating fandom content, and if so, what was it?

I first started watching Supergirl when it first started, but I fell out of it after S2. Then I got back into it during the lockdowns in 2020, smack in the middle of the big rift, and that was that.

8. Do you let people you know in real life see your fandom creations?

Nope. No one in real life knows.

9. How do you feel about fanworks of fanworks? Has anyone ever made something based on a thing you made?

I love it! I’ve received two pieces of fanworks, both from @thatonebirdwrites, who also tagged me in this game! I wish I could return the favor, but again, I’m not quite confident enough for that. Maybe in the future.

10. What feeling do you most often try to evoke with your creations?

I find that in canon stories, there’s a lot of handwaving over little details in a way that requires a lot of suspension of disbelief. Like in CW’s Supergirl, there’s a lot of vague science and plotholes that drive me crazy. I’m a scientist, so I like trying to infuse my work with realism, and I like making things make sense, if that makes sense lol. I think that goes for both character motivations and for things in the world I write. I usually end up with lots of background information that never makes into the story, but I feel like it makes the story stronger when I find the opportunity to weave it in. Tl;dr, I try to make the world and the characters feel real and grounded.

11. Has someone ever paid your work a compliment (in any form) that has stuck with you, and what was it?

In the same vein as the previous question, a few people have said they enjoy my worldbuilding and storytelling, so that’s lovely.

12. What’s your favourite thing someone else has made that you’ve seen in the last 24 hours (and link it if you can find it again!)

In the last 24 hours? I think it might be an older Supercorp art piece with Kara and Lena snuggled up together with a cat. It was reblogged by @fazedlight under #vintage supercorp, which is awesome because I wasn’t on tumblr at the time a lot of fan stuff was circulating.

13. Give a small sneak preview of something you’re working on right now (eg a couple of sentences of fic from a WIP, a gif set theme, a small piece of a larger picture, whatever you feel happy to share)

“Ahem.”

Kara’s eyes opened when Lena jerked away. Jess was standing in the doorway, an amused, uncomfortable smile on her face. “Miss Luthor, the Danvers are here.”

“Right.” Lena straightened up, discreetly wiping at her mouth with the back of her hand. “We just need five minutes, then you can let them in.”

“Of course.”

Jess shut the door behind her, and Lena stood, clearing out the debris from lunch, and Kara started to help. “Are you upset that Jess saw us?”

Lena chuckled. “Not upset, no. A little embarrassed, maybe; kissing isn’t exactly a workplace activity, after all.”

Kara’s brow furrowed “Should we not do it here, then?” she asked, trying to get a firm grasp on what things were and were not allowed in terms of physical affection. For all that humans enjoyed it, it seemed there were a lot of rules surrounding what was and wasn’t appropriate in different places.

“No, no.” Lena smiled. “It’s fine. Besides, I think Jess will knock from now on.”

“Okay.”

Excerpt from an in-progress medieval omegaverse Supercorp AU:

“Might I cut in for the next dance?”

Lena turned. The clumsy blonde alpha from Krypton was standing there, a hopeful smile on her face. Edge turned as well, chest puffing up at the younger alpha as he exuded dominating pheromones. The Kryptonian straightened but remained perfectly civil. The music had ended, and Lena gladly took the opportunity to step away from the scowling Morgan Edge. “Certainly, my lord.” She cut her eyes back to Edge. “Duke Edge.”

Ignoring his grunted reply, she let the Kryptonian alpha take her hand, and oh, that felt nice. Lena’s hand just fit into the alpha’s warm, not-at-all-clammy one. Lena’s brow furrowed. That, combined with the blonde’s fairly pretty features and her refreshing scent, had Lena’s omega perking its head up.

It was annoying.

She allowed the Kryptonian to lead her back to the dance floor as the musicians started. “Lord Zor-El, is it?”

“Kara, please.” The alpha – Kara – settled her hand on her waist, leading them into an easy waltz. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Lady Luthor.”

14. Have you ever seen/read anything made by the person who tagged you? If so, what was it and what was your favourite thing about it? (pick a favourite if there are several)

Yes! I’ve just caught up on the Shared Moments series by @thatonebirdwrites! It’s a Korrasami rewrite of The Legend of Korra, and the worldbuilding and lore is absolutely world-class; the changes they made to canon are so imaginative and so well thought out. It’s in progress, and I can’t wait to read more.

15. Do you leave comments on fandom works, and if so how would you describe your comment style?

I try, but I’m not very good at doing it consistently. It’s hypocritical, I know, considering how much I appreciate every comment I receive. But I’m trying to do better.

16. How many works in progress do you currently have? Will you finish them all?

I only have one fic that’s currently being posted, but I’ve got another Supercorp fic in the works (see sneak peek above). I have other ideas waiting, but those are probably the main ones. I’m definitely finishing make this place your home, and I do hope to finish my other ideas. There just never seems to be enough time.

17. what’s the longest it’s ever taken you to finish a fandom project?

I haven’t finished any! Not unless Supercorptober counts, and I finished that in the requisite month, by some kind of miracle. Make this place your home has been going for over a year and I really hope to have it done before it reaches two.

18. Describe the thing you made most recently in a way that is technically true, but also completely misleading. Link the thing if it’s published!

19. Do you ever engage with fanworks for a fandom you’re not in? Which one(s) and how did you get into it?

I guess not? I find it hard to read fanfics if I don’t know the background, let alone write for it.

20. Recommend a fan work from your fandom to your followers

Not sure I have any followers lol. I think one of my favorite fics is The Science Guild by dreiser, which is one of the inspirations I had for a more science-y Kara. It went dormant for a few years but it miraculously updated a couple of weeks ago. But I also want to recommend Confession by TheBirdWrites, which is an absolutely fantastic. I’m still catching up on the sequel fic, Unraveling Realities, and it’s still ongoing, but it’s so good.

I know it’s not great to be a dead end for a tag game, but I don’t really have any mutuals because I’m too shy to follow people, let alone tag them. I did have fun answering this though :)

5: prom queen kurt! dare i say a girlslay on my behalf? i think i dare. every time i see it i think i should do more glosters (glee posters) and then i don't. i could tho they would be really cool (source: dude trust me)

1: black or white gcv animation <3 it's not what i would call my best drawing (bc it's, yknow, not just one drawing) but it is what i would call the product of a very obsessive thought and some frantic art sessions. objectively it's the coolest thing i've done this year so it deserves the top spot. i'm proud of it i hope to glanimate more next year. also this isn't art but it's a relevant post that i still stand by months later

Hey! So I know I’ve written once before but I’m really interested to know: what is your literary background? When did you start writing, and do you see yourself having a career in writing anytime soon?

Also… is the IE love coming from childhood nostalgia, or is it just me 🤓

Hello hello! I started writing in 2015, I'd just turned fifteen at the time, I think? I'd only recently started reading fanfiction and was pretty obsessed with Inazuma Eleven GO, and honestly I was kinda disappointed in the stories I found on FFN (basically 75% of it was romance one-shots, and barely anything on my favorite characters or anything that was longer than 5K) so my solution to that was to, uh, start writing things myself?

Mind you, I had zero writing experience, I was very bad at English, and I knew next to nothing about writing in general, so my first story was pretty bad. Very quickly abandoned it and started on Stand, which was probably where I first really discovered my love of writing. Ended up getting advice from a few other writers on FFN and through, I guess sheer stubbornness, I improved? Especially in Stand you can see how much I improve throughout the chapters. At that point I'd read quite a lot of fanfiction in other fandoms, discovered a love for time travel stories, and found myself heavily disappointed that there were no Inazuma Eleven time travel stories.

So I, once again, decided that the obvious solution was to write one myself, and that's how Accidental Reverse was born.

So yeah, that's about it! No literary background beyond fanfiction writing whatsoever. If it comes to stories, though, it's a bit different - I've always had a very active imagination and apparently could spend hours by myself playing with my toys and making up whole stories as a kid (in hindsight, I realize they were quite dramatic so that at least hasn't changed). I also have suffered from motion sickness my entire life, and we went on vacation every year by car, so ever since I was small (think 6-7) whenever I had to spend a whole day in the car I couldn't read or draw and instead started fantasizing about cartoons or movies I watched and making up stories for said cartoons. Sound familiar? XD

As for a career in writing, no clue. I'm kinda bad at writing original stories, don't have the patience for introducing a setup for a world or unknown characters, but I've got some ideas for a book series that I'd like to write but probably won't for the next decade. Who knows, maybe someday I will.

Also yes, IE love is nostalgia but also just because the show is so ridiculous and fun. The plot, no other sports anime has such ridiculous plot lines and I love it. It's so chaotic and fun.

These are based on an array of characters from different mediums that I can talk about at length who—

In order from when I experienced them (below the cut because it got ridiculously long):

1. Calvin and Hobbes. Package deal. Calvin and Hobbes cartoons were how I got into reading as a kid and were a formative part of my childhood and influenced me as a storyteller in how I write, read, and draw.

2. Inigo Montoya from The Princess Bride, both book and movie. What I love about Inigo as a person IS his drive for revenge and desire for justice for his father’s murder, and what I love about his character within both the book and the movie is that his story is a subplot— We don’t know if Inigo will survive the story, much less achieve his goal. The audience knows it’s a fairytale; we know Westley and Buttercup will survive and live happily ever after. Inigo Montoya does not have that guarantee.

Additionally, I love a satisfying revenge narrative. Inigo gets exactly what he wants and there’s never this wishy-washy “oh if I kill him than I’m no better than he is” nonsense that drives me INSANE when I see it in other media

3. Nightcrawler from X-Men. The X-Men movies got me into superheroes and then at about 12 I started getting into comics, but since I didn’t have access to a whole lot of them, what I would do was scour Wikipedia taking notes and reading about all of the characters and storylines I thought were interesting 😆 I was obsessed with X-Men and that was my first foray into the idea of fandom, collecting art and printing it out to put in a binder with fanfic on notebook paper and sketches on printer paper lolol. I liked Nightcrawler because depending on the story he was either a tragic character, a comedic character, or both. He’s got a fantastic design and I loved the swashbuckling rogue archetype already, as well as the circus background and acrobatic fighting style. Definitely influential. Did I have a crush on his character? Mind your own business

4. Loki from the phase 1 MCU. I did a lot of reading/writing because of his character based on the first Thor and Avengers movies. I thought he was incredibly compelling, and there’s one fanfic author whose work I really admired and are etched into my brain.

5. Din Djarin from The Mandalorian. By episode 1 you already have a good sense of who this guy is, despite the fact he is shrouded in mystery, and I LOVE characters like that. Characters whose past aren’t fully explained are great because that tension and mystery keeps audiences wondering and coming back to them, AND it gives writers the freedom to explore and add in what’s needed as the story goes along without being constrained by a past that’s already been clearly defined.

Additionally, episode 3 has one of the best narratives arcs of anything in Star Wars in my opinion, and is one of my personal favorites in storytelling in general. From the intro we know what the first act is going to be. Karga, not knowing what the target is, in a recording saying “I don’t know if [the Client] wants to eat it or hang it on his wall.” Mando’s next line being “It’s not a toy.” The whole return to the city, the audience knowing what kind of wretched hive of scum and villainy it is. Din’s uncertainty even as he gives a child to know enemies for payment. Him asking what they’re going to do with it and not receiving an answer, but a threat.

Taking payment and the title card immediately appearing to say “THE SIN.”

The rest of the episode proceeding and us FEELING the weight of guilt in Mando’s silence, the way he’s trying to justify his choice despite the fact he knows it was wrong. The war within himself between wanting to see a helpless child safe and knowing he’s the type of person who could and should see it done— who shouldn’t have been the reason for the child’s safety being compromised in the first place— and his desire to reclaim something culturally, religiously, and practically important to a persecuted people he has pledged a faithful life and allegiance to. How the two things he cares about most come into direct conflict because to prioritize one means sacrificing the other.

THE SHOT OF THE GEAR SHIFT WHEN HIS HAND HALTS MIDAIR. SO MUCH SAID IN SO LITTLE.

AND THEN HE GOES BACK!!! HE GOES BACK AND HE SAVES THE BABY!!! LITERALLY SINGLE-HANDEDLY TAKING OUT A STORMTROOPER SAFEHOUSE BECAUSE HE HAS A WEAPON IN ONE HAND AND A BABY IN THE OTHER!!!!!

He knew they had nefarious reasons for wanting a child captured. Why else would you throw out a cradle?

And to top it all off they REALLY tighten the noose around his neck all the way up to the climax because as far as we know, he really DOESN’T have a way out of this. The Mandalorians coming to his aid IS a surprise but it’s not contrived and it WORKS and it’s a satisfying end because we’ve truly seen this guy give it his all and despite the fact he was the best Mandalorian he could be, his best was not enough and the audience really doesn’t know how he’s going to get out of it in the end (<- establishing the main theme of the show). Tension, raising the stakes, meaningful themes that aren’t spoon-fed to the audience, and a successful marriage of the emotional climax to the physical one.

AND THAT WAS JUST ONE EPISODE!!!

The scripts and ideas in Season 1 were so solid and done so well. I don’t know how they accidentally created one of the greatest characters of all time with so few lines of dialogue but they DID and I’ve been thinking about him for four years straight.

🖥️: I guess youtube? I’m the type that likes to have some kind of talking in the background when in general (I dislike complete silence) so i like really long form deep dives or gaming videos to watch, draw or fall asleep to. I don’t spend a lot of time on other social platforms. Mostly cuz they all blow ass now.

🎄: Christmas. Mostly because I like drinking with my friends and family, watching the cheesy movies as we wrap gifts, baking yummy treats, eating my mother’s good af spinach dip and seeing people’s reactions when they open the silly gifts I get them. I like Halloween too. Im def the has decorations up in September type, I have some gothic things that live permanently in my room, and the sick candy deals the day after halloween is just mwah. Last year i pulled out the speaker to tempt kids to my house cuz they kept walking by mine despite the fact i had decorations galore in the windows and the lights were on. I look forward to doing it again and dressing up my kitties!

📕: The House of Leaves. You gotta have a really good attention span and pay attention to the tine details at first. But after that its a neat experience that really plays with the format of what a book is and what goes on a page.

and i mean all of it, like the world building is on top and how i love the power dynamics when mc got into the kingdom, and am i deranged for thinking the scene w mc tied down to a chair was so hot?

hahaha thank you!!! this sudden resurgence of interest for what the body wants was completely unexpected but wholeheartedly welcomed! this fic was the first lengthy, detailed one that i published on here, so it’s such a compliment to hear that you enjoyed it ! <3 and omg, you’re making him wanna draw him now… pause… i think i will after this. 

i honestly was a little worried that both the mc’s and soobin’s change was too sudden 😭 i still feel like i could’ve executed it better, maybe? or maybe i’m just overthinking things, idk. but seriously, that smut was genuinely one of the most insane one i’ve ever written?? i didn’t realize that i’d forever be cementing soobin to a life of nonhuman!aus after that— sorry soobin i simply do not make the rules.

ok. so! in the universe that WTBW is set in, Soobin’s species (that i am too lazy to go check the name of) are seen as absolute indestructible units by both other aliens/monsters and humans. Why is that? Because of their blood! it’s used as a weapon against other nonhumans because it’s toxic and deadly— thus, the reputation of the lilac blood gave the creatures the image of being insanely dangerous. 

as a matter of fact, there are operation sites that breed and harness blood from Soobin’s species because it’s such a sought after (and illegal. insanely illegal.) weapon! and that’s the reason why humans— more specifically, the mc and her crew— are so terrified of the Hexen species, (yes i did look up the name just now.) and more importantly, their blood— because it’s known to be used as a lethal weapon. 

Now, onto the main question; blood bonds, what the hell is up with that? lilac blood is lethal to every species but the one it came from— in other words, it doesn’t harm the hexen species. so, when they give each other / inject their blood into each other (i know, it sounds a little gross) it’s basically their way of bonding/mating— it represents them uniting and becoming one, and is a promise to remain together as long as they’re alive; yeah, they bond for life!

long story short, yes— however, they don’t affect him as much as they would a normal human, or another nonhuman that isn’t as strong as his species. would they penetrate his skin? yes, but it would be a surface wound at most; his species has evolved to be extremely strong because they carry lilac blood and are able to receive it, so their body should be strong enough to handle it, and also, they have like six other limbs to attend to— it takes quite a bit of mental and physical strength to be able to develop and strengthen everything properly, if that makes sense.

could the mc’s crew have taken him down? yeah, a headshot is a headshot and soobin would’ve been a goner askdlh,, but his threats were enough to bring them to their senses bc yk.. he has tentacles that can move at the blink of an eye and he would’ve most likely taken one of them down before getting killed. he’s not invincible, but you do have to put a little extra effort in harming/killing him.

here’s the fun part hehe— so lilac blood, when used on humans, doesn’t kill them. Instead, it acts as an aphrodisiac. originally, lilac blood was only used as a weapon against non-humans; in other words, before space exploration evolved into what it is in that universe. Because of that, the hexen species didn’t evolve to combat against humans— which means the deadly aspect is taken away from the whole injection of it all. on soobin’s planet, everyone is already strictly against interacting with humans— the hatred doesn’t run as intense as other planets however, which is why soobin is so indifferent when he encounters the mc without her pin— so really, none of them knew what would happen if you injected your blood into them. 

soobin simply thought it would work as usual; what he didn’t account for, however, was the fact that humans don’t die from it— which means that they’re able to sustain it, and now… soobin’s body and mind thinks he’s just bonded with another of his kind!

as previously mentioned, the hexen species bonds for life— meaning that, if soobin tried to kill the mc, his body would go haywire and immediately think that his mate— his other half— is dead. a life without your mate can be seriously detrimental to both one’s physical and mental health, so soobin wouldn’t have lasted long without the mc; he would’ve been immediately weakened, and the crew would’ve taken that chance to take him down— if they somehow chose to keep him alive, he quickly would’ve died after anyway. (that’s dark sorry.)

6. What’s one fact about the universe of A Dark & Verdant Door that you didn’t get a chance to mention in the fic itself?

I didn’t really get a chance to explore Yaz’s world beyond Sheffield, or the world the Warden is from, since those were beyond the scope of that story. Things that would be fun to think about/write about would be the politics of Yaz’s world, what was up with her early military training, maybe some sort of new conflict arising from the history that I threw hints at with the ruins around the town. And the Warden, well there’s not much DW canon to draw from on the Doctor’s place of origin, so that would just be me pulling a world of shapeshifters out of a hat and making up a bunch of stuff about it. Which sounds FUN.

12. Are there any tropes you used to dislike but have grown on you? (smut and general)

For a DW-specific general trope, I’d say I’ve never really liked fobwatch fics, and yet I find myself playing with the concept in something I’m working on currently. (Sort-of. Because it’s also an AU. And very hard to describe.)

Smut-wise, hm, that’s actually a difficult question, I tend to stay not-interested in the few things I’m not interested in… I’ll say roleplay scenarios in general might be growing on me a bit.

18. If you wrote a sequel to Star by Star, what would it involve?

Oh you got me with this one, because I have a pretty robust outline just sitting here in my google docs folder… It involves the growing conflict between the Alliance and Gallifrey, money problems, more of Theo’s secrets, and an increasingly complicated quest gallivanting across the galaxies to find Theo a new cybernetic heart.

26. Would you rather write a fic that had no dialogue or one that was only dialogue?

If I had to choose, I’d go with no dialogue, because you can pry action and description from my cold, dead hands! I think I could still get my point across writing something like that. Hmm… that one’s going into the “concepts that interest me” file…

34. What aspects of your writing are inspired by/taken from your real life?

Any time you find me waxing poetic about art or throwing art-related terms into a story, that’s because of my background in fine arts. The way plants creep into every story is mostly cause I think they’re neat, but also because of childhood summers spent building forts out of branches and my current obsession with gardening. Other weird ideas come from reading approximately 1 zillion books and mixing and matching bits and pieces of them with stuff I’m interested in!

One of the many projects I've been juggling lately is an western-fantasy AU that I’m going to have a hell of a time tagging if I ever get it done. I’ll throw in a little bit to try and get the vibes across:

She’s sharp; not that Yaz isn’t, but Yaz is young. Not experienced in the way Grace is.

“I don’t know,” they say. “I seem to be stuck.” 

Grace paces to the end of the porch, boots thumping against the boards. She leans on the rail and looks out over the street. “I’m sorry.” She glances back, then to the street again. Rain dampens her shirtsleeves, droplets hang in the threads of her poncho. “I think we might have tethered you here, somehow, when we summoned you.”

I am very good at drawing objects and not at all good at drawing people! technical plans are something I’ve dealt with extensively both academically & professionally, but in the more general sense I’ve always been an ‘I can’t draw’ person. tbh I should find some of those artists who complain about backgrounds and just do all their architecture etc for them

What's something you'd like to create content for?

not to sound like a jerk, but I work in the arts industry & really hate the place ‘content creation’ has come to occupy in everyone’s vocabulary, even though I totally realize that in a context like this it’s probably just trying to be a vague enough term to be inclusive of the many different things people can create. I like writing the fanfic that I do, so without switching subjects, I would like to get better at drawing people because sometimes I have ideas that would be better expressed as images or even short comics

What's something you're currently obsessed with?

Obsessing over 60s who is my baseline so I don’t think that counts - but it’s been almost a month since I watched Holding Achilles & there have only been hours when I didn’t think of it, not entire days

What's something you were excited about that turned out to be disappointing this year?

Ngl, (& not to be a total downer, but) the last 12 months-ish have been an extremely busy/hectic/unpredictable year for me, with both the good & the bad stuff coming out of left field most of the time. So while there were certainly more than enough disappointments, for the most part, they weren’t the kinds of things you could be excited about beforehand (relatives dying, people fighting, strained relationships, illnesses, work stuff in a perpetual state of flux - or as I’ve taken to calling it: death disease & dubious employment). I suppose there were a lot of events I wanted to make it to that I didn’t, due to the aforementioned junk, and I certainly imagined myself getting to read more books & write more fics than I did, but that doesn’t feel like a good specific answer.

What's a hidden talent of yours?

I suppose that depends who you ask? There are lots of work or work-adjacent skills I could name that would be news to people on here, but those are such prominent parts of my life otherwise that they definitely don’t feel ‘hidden.’ But I guess even among people who expect me to be handy/crafty, more overtly artistic things tend to surprise them - like I’ve had people forget that I was the one who painted something, for instance, because that’s not the kind of skill most associate with me. (and I am very good with color & pigment tbh)

Are you religious?

nah. I’m not like, a committed atheist or anything either, I just grew up catholic & don’t go in for that anymore, nor do I have any desire to go seek out another faith

✨ dog sat for a quick night for my favorite boy Finn!! So so happy I got to see him!

✨ I ended up getting the new switch OLED and it’s amazinggg!!! The differences are minor but they make the biggest difference!!

✨ haven’t been running in a month now which makes me so so sad and frustrated but I try to go out and walk in the neighborhood to get the light exercise still. I am doing the peloton daily now which is amazingggg!! But missing my runs and the fresh air with working out so so much. Hopefully my back will get figured out soon and can be resolved easily!! 🤞

✨ I am obsessed with platforms shoes now lol!!! I have platform converse, and then I also got my first pair of Nike airforce 1s 😭

And then I just bought myself a pair of Oxford platform Doc Marten’s 😅 This year I spent SO much money…. So I need to go back to saving!! Lots to save for this year! My brother and I are moving early next year (YAY!!!) and that needs lots of saving, I have a Disneyland trip over the summer with a friend, going to NYC next year during the winter, spending money for Taylor swift concert next year, etc! Plus just saving in general! :)

✨ the biggest thing I bought myself for a holiday treat was a quest 2 VR system!!!!! That is getting delivered today!!!!! I am SO freaking excited!!!!! I have really gotten into gaming since being essentially on bed rest and it helps pass the time… but it’s also become a genuine hobby! I am loving Pokémon violet and then I got Pokémon shield and have been playing the two. And then I wanted the virtual reality system bc getting to be fully immersed in the games is amazing and escaping entirely to a new world… I need that right now lol

✨ I bought thea a new hammock since her old one broke way earlier this year. She got upgraded to a double decker lol

✨ on an iced coffee kick and not complaining about it!! I am trying to make coffee at home versus buying Starbucks to save money, and one of my New Year’s resolutions is to only get Starbucks twice a week! And then make coffee every other day! 1. Why do you like or dislike this character?

Lol for starters I’m a sucker for an evil elf. But truly it is because Matt has done such a great job at making an intriguing villain. I love how clever he is, how much of his villainy was done in the shadows and only now we are seeing everything come to light. I love the mystery of Ludinus, the allure of peeling back the masks and getting to figure out who the hell he is makes me love him. Honestly he’s my favorite villain from CR.

2. Favorite Canon thing about this character?

Oh I’d have to go with the fact that he is worse than Jester at Sending. Took him 4 whole messages just to tell the M9 a ceasefire had been negotiated. He loves to talk and I think that’s hella funny.

5. What’s the first song that comes to mind when you think of them?

Haha this one is tough cuz I’m not a person who puts songs with characters a lot, more like songs that I would then have in the background of a scene with said character. So I will say I think if I had the talent to do an animatic I would have a scene backed by Sacrifice from RWBY (by Jeff and Casey Williams) It would be a scene between either Imogen or Liliana talking to Ludinus. Cuz these lyrics are so fitting to b spoken to him: What if all the plans you made/were not worth the price they paid/even with the lives you stole/still no closer to your goal.

Also maybe sneak a bit of Fearne/Imogen to Ludinus in there as well with these lyrics: You can’t have my life/I’m not your sacrifice/You can try but I’m free/And you won’t conquer me/I won’t crawl, most of all/I won’t fall for you.

Drawing him with longer than normal elf ears. Also it’s not the fandom but I do love it when Travis just yells Luda! every time they discuss him.

25. First Impression? How about now?

My first impression was oh head honcho of the evil guys, but as a Caleb stan I too was focused on only Trent. I did think Ludinus was interesting in the way that he was civil with them. And then when I got EGTW, my interest increased after reading about Molaesmyr and his ties to that, and Aeor’s ties to that.

Now? Oh I love him, i want to know everything about him, I wanna see him turn into a fucked up moon monster. I want a book on him. Like I said to question 1, he is so interesting as a villain and lol the timing of me getting into Thrawn stuff in SW and the Apogee Solstice and Ludinus finally coming to center stage could not have mixed better. I get two smart blue themed villain men to obsess over lol. I love being able to rewatch C2 and pick up on things now!

What book are you currently reading?

I’m currently reading two different books: The Drowned Woods by Emily Lloyd-Jones and The Winter of the Witch by Katherine Arden. I’m not very far into either at the moment, but have enjoyed what bits I have read. 

What’s your favorite movie you saw in theaters this year?

I haven’t seen any movies in theaters since Avengers: Endgame, and I’m VERY far behind on my to-be-watched list. I did enjoy Wendell & Wild on Netflix, and what parts of Troll I saw while my parents were watching it. And I know I’ll love Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio when I finally watch it.

What do you usually wear?

Jeans and a nice t-shirt mostly. Shoes change from converse to short black boots depending on my mood and venue/occasion.

When I first meet people I usually introduce myself as Samantha, but everyone ends up calling me Sam. Because of that I’ve decided to start using Sam for all of my writing.

Did you grow up to become what you wanted to be as a child?

Kinda. I always knew I would probably end up doing something creative since I was really artistic as a child, but what I wanted to be always changed. At one point I thought I would be a veterinarian or a marine biologist, at another I wanted to be a filmmaker. I did go to college for filmmaking, but have since moved to the writing side of making films.

What’s something you’re good at vs something you’re bad at?

I’m good at coming up with characters and ideas for my writing, but coming up with full plots takes me much longer. And since I want the full plot before I start writing, many ideas get stuck in the beginning stages without progressing.

Dogs. I have three Chihuahuas.

If you draw/write, or create in any way, what's your favorite picture/favorite line/favorite etc. from something you created this year?

“She was raised in the body of his first love.” This is the opening line to an original short story I'm still working on.

What's something you would like to create content for?

It’s not so much as “for” as much as it’s “with.” I’d love to collaborate with Guillermo del Toro in the future. He’s my favorite filmmaker and I love his take on monster stories.

What’s something you’re currently obsessed with?

Critical Role. I got introduced to them this year and have become obsessed with it. Especially the way Matt Mercer is able to weave storylines and different cultures/backgrounds into the game.

What's something you were excited about that turned out to be disappointing this year?

The amount of Marvel works coming out. I was excited at the beginning of the year, but many of the shows/movies have become very formulaic. There are also way too many. I’ve decided that I’ll watch for the few characters I REALLY like, and just ignore everything else because it’s gotten to be too much.

What’s a hidden talent of yours?

Like @ellcrys, procrastination. In school teachers always told us that we couldn’t do essays the night before and do well, and I always did and ended up with high A’s, if not 100′s. If I have a deadline, I can get it done.

Are you religious?

No. I was raised Christian but lean more toward agnostic now. I think some religions could be real, all could be real, or none may be real. There’s no way to know for sure.

What's something you wish to have at this moment?

My eyes fixed. I’ve had double vision issues since the beginning of 2020 that the doctors are not completely sure what the problem is. I can’t drive because of it, so it has really impacted my ability to be independent.

What inspired you to be an artist?

OOOOOH this is a weighted question, which i like, so i shall provide a weighted answer! this is really long so for that i apologize

i know it’s a bit of a cliché to say “i’ve been drawing ever since i could pick up a pencil”, but it’s a cliché that’s true because i’ve been drawing ever since i could pick up a pencil! it’s always just been something i’ve known and done. i just knew ever since a very young age i wanted to draw for the rest of my life no matter what the medium—i wanted to be a children’s book illustrator because i adored looking through different books and staring at the illustrations, i knew i wanted to draw cartoons all day because i watched too much TV as a kid (which paid off because i work in TV animation now) and knew i wanted to make or help make characters come alive on a screen, etc etc etc.

it was always just something i KNEW i needed to do and did constantly, i remember my old kindergarten teacher submitting my name in a county wide art competition and i got second place when i was like… 7 years old! THAT’S BRAGGADOCIOS OF ME I REALIZE HAHAHAHA i’m not trying to be a braggart but essentially just trying to illustrate the point that it’s been something i’ve been involved with for a long time and has always been an association

i joined social media at way too young and impressionable of an age, but in the very long run it was beneficial because here i am now. discovering other people could see my drawings and i could draw whatever they wanted really incentivized me to draw more and a LOT, and it just ended up something i’d always be doing. there was a point in time where i’d be drawing 10+ fully rendered drawings (this was in MS Paint so “rendered” is used very liberally) a day for months and months and months on end, and of course having the attention span of a flea means i spent much of my school time doodling and drawing rather than anything super productive

BUT because i don’t want this to be an “it all started when i was born” story, i will say that i always knew i wanted to work in animation as i got older and taught myself how to animate, but never really got serious about considering becoming a professional and thinking about the industry until about 3-4 years ago. getting into Camp Lazlo was incredibly enlightening, i adored (and still do) the wide cast of characters and how distinct all of their personalities are, how music and the backgrounds and certain acting decisions all affect the atmosphere… it was to the point where i was writing essays in high school about how when i die after a lucrative career in cartooning, Joe Murray will be the person i meet in the afterlife and reflect upon my life because he inspired me most and is how i got to where i am. (i feel the need to add that this was based on a writing prompt for my literature class and not something i came up with completely on a whim and i swear i am not as creepy as this sounds)

and of course CL led me to revive/make my own cast of characters, and wanting to study how to make them move nicely or seek inspiration from the classics that i could pour into my characters i turned to Looney Tunes (Tuesday will mark 3 years since i got into it!) since i had heard good things about it… my characters completely got sidetracked because i became positively enraptured at how cartoons could move and sound and look this way, woah, you can track the culture of the period depending on when the shirt was made, wow, they made LT cartoons in black and white, woah, Daffy used to be crazy and likable, dang, i never knew Porky could be so funny and charming, etc etc etc. my Lazlo obsession is what sparked my interest but LT is what really put my nose to the grindstone and made me want to learn about absolutely everything the medium has to offer

this is getting long so i’ll try to begin to wrap it up here, but i always knew i wanted to work in animation and never knew what i wanted to do. i only decided that i wanted to become a storyboard artist not even a month before i got asked to freelance on SpongeBob. this wasn’t even two years ago! but i positively adore storyboarding.

cartoons dominate every aspect of my life, and i know that’s a very “touch grass” inducing statement (and not one i wholly disagree with either) but this personal relationship i’ve had with my art has manifested itself in the form of cartooning. i love cartoons because they’re so personal. this is going to sound ridiculous so bear with me, it’s just an artistic philosophy and i know it sounds silly. but when i draw, i have a very very very personal relationship with the characters i draw, and it’s not something you can really force. i try to get into the minds of my subjects—how do they conduct themselves, what are they thinking, how do they think, how do they talk, how are they responding to me. sometimes it takes a little for them to warm up. gotta break the ice first. but it’s a very communicative process, i like to try and talk to my subjects and communicate with them THROUGH my drawings and talk back and forth to get the best results. and this is one reason why i love storyboarding so much, because my entire job revolves around getting in the heads of these characters. characters like SpongeBob or Daffy or Porky or whoever are very important to me because, again, as ridiculous as this sounds, it’s like i know them!

maybe this is a very lonely thing to say (even though i don’t consider myself a lonely person by any means) but my art is guaranteed company. i have a lot of reasons for why i draw. sometimes it boils down to something as simple as “it’s my job” or “i like it” or is something more complex like “i want to bring others the same happiness and solace art and cartoons and illustration have brung me over the years” or “i want to communicate with these characters because they’re begging to communicate with ME and i can’t just sit here idly and tune out that urge.”

i like to experiment. i have a reputation as “the vintage artist”, and it’s one i’m very happy with! drawing with more traditional and vintage sensibilities in mind isn’t really me trying to pull a “look what i can do” so much as it is just something i feel i HAVE to do, those sensibilities speak to me and the nostalgia and warmth and sincerity of it all impacts me so much i want to share that same warmth with others. but i like to break out of that, too, and try to. one piece i’ll do in a more comic book style, the next one will be painted. one will be more flat with bold colors, the next i’d like to emulate a pencil look.

i try to switch it up and experiment as much as i can (though to be honest i could stand to be more self indulgent, i have many more “experimental” ideas that i don’t act on enough for completely arbitrary reasons and need to break out of that—“if i don’t, who will?” has a tendency to sound self centered but it’s a motto that’s boosted my confidence time and time again) and never settle for just okay. i have a tendency to obsess and can often burn myself out because i operate at a very “all or nothing” attitude and will needlessly fret over very inconsequential details (I WILL NOT BE SMITED IF I DRAW TWO SPONGEBOBS IN A ROW!) but i think that consciousness has allowed me to do a lot of problem solving and thinking i wouldn’t have been able to do otherwise, so as much of a pain as it is, i’m grateful.

I AM SO SORRY THIS IS INCREDIBLY LONG. i promise i’m not trying to sound egotistical or self important in the slightest, i know this is a needlessly elaborate response and has a lot of heightened language that sounds pompous and attention seeking but i truly truly truly truly promise that’s not at all my intent. i just have so much to SAY and it’s something i haven’t thought about much before, so i appreciate you giving me an attitude to blab! TL;DR it’s what i know, and it’s what i enjoy, especially knowing someone else can enjoy it too.

Currently watching: Digimon Adventure: (2020)

I grew up with Digimon Adventure. I have vivid memories of being so engaged with the show (Sora & Biyomon were always my favorite), more than the Pokemon anime ever made me. So when the 2020 reboot dubbed and released over here, I immediately began to watch it. I was a bit disappointed to see how much they changed the plot, and some of the new dub voices are... eh. But honestly it’s such a treat. The updated characterizations are delightful & the ost is great! I’m just holding on to hope that my favorite background characters from the og adventure 01 are still gonna show T-T

Currently reading: Wings of Fire: Moon Rising

I’m re-reading this series so that I know what they're talking about when I get to the last two books that I haven’t read yet. Don’t really have any strong opinions abt this one & I’ll probably drop the series again once I’m able to go to the library.

Current obsession: FNAF, Pokemon, Digimon

oough fnaf. Easily my biggest hyperfixation ever. with the release of the ruin dlc, it has come back strong once again. I’ve been revisiting my silly little aus. I’ve been drawing these goobers again. honestly thriving

Pokemon is always one that just. stays. in my brain. quietly watching. waiting. right now, I’m soft resetting in Ultra Moon for a shiny litten to start with. this game has a 2 minute unskippable cutscene every soft reset. While I am a bit jealous that para-cubed got her shiny starter before I did, I am not going to stop now. I’m well over 1000 soft resets. I’m in too deep.

Digimon :] ive got silly little aus for this one too. honestly making digimon aus for anything is so easy. free serotonin. but ive got little ocs as well that are very dear to me :]

Last song listened to: Be my Everything (English Version). It’s a solo song from one of the members of a K-pop group named Purple Kiss, and it’s fantastic! Great vocals, even though I do prefer the other song from the single more.

Currently Watching: Nashville (2013) and the new season of The Dragon Prince. I only have one episode of Nashville left and it’s the finale, so that’s pretty sad. I’m three episodes into season 5 of Dragon Prince and really liking it! I’m glad the animation has improved since the beginning.

Currently Reading: Nothing now. I just finished Dear Mothman by Robin Gow and loved it though! It is written for young teens, but it’s a really great queer narrative and is written through some very nice free verse poetry.

Current Obession: It’s mainly Skyrim (liked it so much I made a Tumblr blog for it, after all), but since I talk a lot about that, I’ll also mention Hollow Knight. I’m playing it right now and it’s very hard, but very good! I like how little handholding it does.
