Jacob was born on the Pole, in the Dragon clan. His biological mother dies during childbirth, and his father was killed during a Hunt when he was still an infant. On top of that, Jacob was born with dysfonctioning lungs, leaving him in a very fragile state, a sickness that will probably kill him in early adulthood. No one among the Dragons wanted to take care of him, and severall members wanted to leave him to die.

Berenilde, who was grieving the murder of her children and husband, desperatly needed someone to love and protect, and decided to adopt Jacob and raise him as her own son.
