Walking through the doorway, the dark haired boy couldn't think of anywhere he'd want to be less. Just that morning, the woman who introduced herself as Lorelai, had told him that she had two daughters about his age. He can't be completely sure as he wasn't exactly 'actively listening' but by the time his brain had caught up to what his ears were hearing, the idea of twins living in such a town like Stars Hollow had him thinking everyone was cartoon characters. Jess Mariano couldn't picture anything other than identical twins in matching outfits, with the same comedic, animated personalities as the whole town.

Following the source of the noise and clatter into the kitchen, against his will, Jess shared a small greeting to the first of the matching set, Rory. Seemingly, the calmest and least annoying of the group yet, he noted. After being subjected to talk of lemons and being quizzed to no end about his dietary requirements, Jess slipped away from the chaos to what he believed was the living room. Taking in its state, he noticed the odd arrangement of the table and decided that it must not be its permeant place. He glanced down at his watch from beneath his dark grey hoodie sleeve, and looks at the time. Simultaneously, the boy's ears pricked up at the sound of David Bowie that came from up the stairs.

Curiosity and boredom getting the better of him, he climbed the stairs one at a time, planks creaking under each step. All aspects of politeness gone from Jess since he stepped off the bus earlier apparent, as he waltzed though the open bedroom door at the opposite end of the landing. His eyes surveyed the room as some excitement sparked there as he took in the posters, stacked CDs and endless amount books overflowing the shelves. The dark haired boy's gaze landing on where the music is coming from as it changes intro Big Exit by PJ Harvey.

Meanwhile, the brunette girl dragged a comb through her bangs one last time before placing it back onto the bathroom counter with a curse as she noticed the time. Happy with her final decision pertaining to her outfit, she hopped on one foot into the hallway as she pulls her knee high sock up her shin to its full length. Just as the dark haired boy turns to leave the bedroom he was currently standing in.

"Oh my-! Jesus Christ, way to give a girl a fright!" The girl heaves, with a hand placed on her chest. She eyed the boy as he opened his mouth to say something, not before a persistent sing song interrupts them.

"Reyaaa, Jess! Party's moved to the living room!" Lorelai enthusiastically announces up the stairs.

"Coming!" The girl yells over the banister before walking back over to the now-named mystery boy.

"Jess huh? Guessing you're Luke's nephew, right?"

"Nothing gets past you ay" Monotonal, Jess replied as he quirked his eyebrow.

"I'm Freya." Pair complete. "You know you're acting very nonchalant for a boy I just caught snooping in my room."

The boy in question scratches the back of his head slowly. "Wasn't snooping, just looking, admiring even. 'S a difference." His mind refused to believe his heart just skipped a beat as they both lined up in her bedroom doorway, only inches apart as Jess leans on the side of it. Her sparkly, brown eyes invoked a certain feeling in him when they made eye contact.

Freya gently pads across her floor to her CD player and speaker as she presses pause. "You like Bowie?" She questions.

"Yea, it's what made me come upstairs." The brunette turns to share a grin with the boy now hovering by her bookshelves. "Aren't we hooked on phonics?" Jess murmurs.

Letting out a chuckle she replies, "Do you read?"

"Not much." As he picks up a book to examine the cover.

"I could lend you that it's great!" She exclaims as she finally takes in the dark haired boy standing in her room. His grey hoodie nearly fully zipped, paired with dark jeans that rest loosely on his hips. His eyebrows furrowing as his dark brown eyes bore into a page in the book. She felt a blush creeping into her cheeks as she finds herself aware of how handsome he really is.

With a shrug, he put the book back, "No thanks."

Trying to hide her disappointment at the rejection, Freya tried to change the subject.

“Okay erm well I think we-”

“Do these open?” Jess cut her off as he gestured to the window.

“Oh.. yeah, just unlatch then push.” She said as she awkwardly stood by her bed,

“So shall we…?” The girl looked at him with confusion before what he’s referring to clicked.

“Oh, I promise you even if you could climb down, there’s nowhere to bail to.” Slightly bored at the interaction, Freya walked over to her door. “I get you have the need to do or say the opposite of whatever people, in this case Luke, wants you to do, but I’m so hungry. And Sookie, while borderline insane, is a really good cook, so as much as I hate to say it, you’re on your own.”

“You don’t know anything about me.” The boy replied dryly.

“I know!” Freya replied softly with an amused glint in her eyes, knowing his response proves her point. “Come downstairs and eat and you can tell me all about you.” She flirted as she looked over her shoulder while holding the door handle.

Jess let out a smirk while he looked down at his shoes and shaking his head.

Taking that and his silence as a no, the girl stepped through the doorway. “Well, close the door behind you, or the…window? Which ever one you end up using.” She said with a smile on her lips.

Descending down the stairs, Freya couldn’t help but notice the warm curiosity growing inside her at the thought of the boy.

Checking her watch, the brunette decreased the pace of her steps back to a walk as she headed for Stars Hollow Books. In a miscommunication with her, not so happy, Mom, she had been told the time rounded up, hence the original hurrying, but alas the girl will make it before the store shuts for the evening.

While walking, her mind wandered back to the mismatched stories of the last 24 hours. After having met Jess, although not massive on the manners or socialising, considering he had just moved was perfectly reasonable. However all Freya had heard for the last day from her Mom was the verbal abuse of his character. Even Luke’s too due to their recent fight that even trumps Sid and Nancy, just to add to the confusion even more.

She heard Jess come down the stairs a moment after her while she was passing plates along, but didn’t see him after that. Further developing the mystery that’s been stuck in her mind.

Fiddling with the plastic handle between her fingers, the girl walks out of the Market with a textbook and a folder she desperately needed.

Lost in thought, she crossed the road with her house as her destination, when a familiar voice snapped her out of it.

“Hey.” Freya snaps her head round to look at the boy who she seemed to have summoned by thinking about him.

“Hey, yourself.”

“What’re you doing out here this time of night?” Jess questions with raised eyebrows.

“Just getting somethings I needed for school, how about you?”

“Oh yeah same.” He dismisses.

“You know, it was quite the disappearing act you pulled yesterday.” The brown eyed girl brought up, after a moment of almost awkward silence between them.

“Huh- yeah, as tempting as your offer was, tupperware parties and potlucks really aren’t my thing.” He replied as he untucked his hands from his pockets.

“Just too cool for school huh.” She said, amused as she took him in, his puffer vest, his watch resting on his wrist and a coin he’s moving in his hands. “What’re you doing?” The girl questions.

“Oh this-” Showing her the coin, answered “Just another little disappearing act.” As he revealed his hand as empty of said coin.

Suppressing a giggle, Freya shines him a smile with creased eyes.

“Jess, if you ever want to speak to me again, please don’t pull that out my ear.”

After cracking a smile that unlocked a sense of accomplishment in the girl, replied. “Understood.”

“Hey, I like your shirt.” Jess complimented.

Looking down at it to check which one she happened to throw on earlier, she grinned once more. “Thanks! How much Beatles stuff do you know?” She asked excitedly, her eyes illuminated.

“Oh, only the stuff that everyone does, I wouldn’t have been lined up to be one of their groupies that’s for sure.” He joked.

“Hey, speak for yourself, I adore them, I would’ve been pushing other girls out the way. I adore any British band to be completely honest.” Freya spoke with excitement.

“I know, your room isn’t exactly keeping that a secret you’know.” He referenced the multitude of Britpop, The Smiths and The Beatles posters spaced on her walls. Jess couldn’t help but marvel at the way her face flushed at the prolonged eye contact and his comment.

Snapping out of her trance, the girl glanced down at his arm and gently held his sleeve to check the time. The boy’s body grew alert at the touch. “Shit! I’ve got to go in a sec, I hadn’t realised the time.”

“Oh, well in that case, I’ll leave you with one last magic trick. He dramatically stated as he pulls a familiar book out of his pocket.

“You bought a copy? I told you I’d lend you mine!”

“It is yours.”

“You stole my book!” She accused, dumbfounded.

“Well, I just wanted to put some notes in the margins for you.” He handed the book over, as he tried not to let his mind linger on the way their hands touched.

The girls eyes furrowed in confusing as she flicked through the pages.

Looking up innocently, “I thought you said you didn’t read much?”

“Well what is much?” The boy replied with a drawn out shrug and smirk. “Goodbye, Reya.”

Desperate to hide her slight astonishment, smirked as she began to walk away.

“Goodbye, Dodger.”

After a few paces, she looks back to be met with a smug grin. “Oliver Twist.”

The brown haired girl couldn’t help but share the grin while she nodded. Despite all the things she had heard about him in the last day, she couldn’t help but feel giddy at their interactions. The twin secretly hoped there would be more in the future.

 THE YEAR IN REVIEW:

     If anyone had told me that 2023 would see new releases from both The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, I’d have suggested a sanity check. But a live archive release from The Stones early in the year was followed by the all-new Hackney Diamonds in October, while The Beatles released one more song, Now and Then, to cap their career once and for all. Of course, both were bittersweet. Hackney Diamonds was the first Stones release of new material following the death of original drummer Charlie Watts in August 2021. And though Watts appeared on two tracks finished in 2019, Steve Jordan took over the drum chair for the band with mixed results. The Beatles resurrected yet another John Lennon demo first attempted for their Anthology project in 1995, but left unfinished then because of technical issues. New technology allowed them to finally finish the track in 2023, but guitarist George Harrison had passed in 2001. That left Paul and Ringo along with late producer George Martin’s son Giles to complete the recording. So, these releases are really in name only because both The Beatles and The Rolling Stones we all came to know and love had already left the building. Still, both projects were successful, and well-received, and while The Beatles claim their record is indeed the end, The Rolling Stones are already back on the road, and promising another album of new material (and one last Watts recording) as early as next year. (I wouldn’t put any money on that, however, unless you can afford to lose it.)

     For those of us who took Charlie Watts’ passing to heart, there was some comfort in the release of the Charlie Watts Anthology this year that collected some of the drummer’s best Jazz recordings. And once again, some master sleuth managed to unearth a previously unheard, and unreleased recording by the late John Coltrane. Evenings At The Village Gate with Eric Dolphy, a rehearsal for a 1961 date at the Village Gate transcends less than perfect sound to remind everyone that 1961 was John Coltrane’s year, and that everything he touched that year turned to gold.

     The musical event of 2023, as far as I’m concerned was Yuja Wang’s marathon performance with the Los Angeles Philharmonic of all four Rachmaninoff Piano Concertos in one go in February, released a few months later. The genius pianist also released The American Project, a new work by composer Teddy Abrams with the Louisville Orchestra conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas. She toured sold out venues all around the world, and continues to push the envelope by making innovative, and fresh choices in her repertoire to draw more attention to the Classical music genre in the 21st century. As Classical musicians go, Yuja Wang is a Rock star.

     One of the year’s best surprises was the return of Clash bassist Paul Simonon as part of a duo working under the name Galen & Paul. Galen is Galen Ayers, daughter of the late British singer-songwriter Kevin Ayers. Can We Do Tomorrow Another Day recalls the music Serge Gainsbourg made with Jane Birkin in the late 1960s. Sophisticated, smart, charming, and funny, and the last thing I’d have expected, but it works, and was one of my favorite records of the year. The new Pretenders album, Relentless, was another welcome addition to their catalog, and my collection. And PJ Harvey’s latest, I Inside The Old Year Dying, her first new album in seven years, re-establishes her as an artist who continues to move forward, and challenge listeners by constantly reinventing herself.

     Finally, a great new live album from Chick Corea’s Elektric Band, prepared for release by Chick before he passed in 2021 paved the way for the reissue of the band's five studio albums for GRP in new digipak editions with excellent sound. Candid did the honors.

     Closer to home, vinyl and cassette prices continue to rise while the availability of CDs continues to make buying a physical copy of almost anything a genuine headache. I waited three months for an online seller to supply me with Yuja Wang’s Rachmaninoff Concertos CD, and on the day of release, I visited eight retailers online or in store before I could find a copy of the new Rolling Stones album on CD. The store was 40 minutes from my house, and it dampened the excitement of getting the band’s first album of new material in eighteen years. I guess the record industry doesn’t need long time collectors any longer now that vinyl and cassettes are a hit with twenty-somethings with deep pockets. If CDs disappear completely, I’m finished buying music because I refuse to rent it.

     I did, however, manage to find one vinyl record I wanted this year that was actually reasonably priced and available from a reliable online seller. Chuck Berry’s Concerto In B. Goode is kind of a “wild card” in the Berry catalog. His last release for Mercury in 1969 before he returned to Chess, the album has four new originals on side one, but side two features the title track only – eighteen minutes of Berry’s trademark licks and lines. There’s nothing else like it in Chuck’s catalog, and for that reason alone, it was worth getting. It’s hardly a masterpiece, but it is a great listen, and the pressing on Elemental is pristine.

     Another great find this year was Willie Nelson’s 1971 album Yesterday’s Wine. I’d never heard it. I only knew it by reputation. But it was even better than I’d heard – easily as good as Shotgun Willie, Phases and Stages, and even Red Headed Stranger.

     I’ve always (until this year) been behind on PJ Harvey releases, but this year I caught up with Let England Shake, released in 2011. It’s the best album in what has become one of the most impressive catalogs of any contemporary Rock artist.

     Gary Bartz’s Live In Bremen 1975 with the NTU Troop was issued in 2021. I was looking for something interesting from that period, and stumbled on this one. Five years removed from his time with Miles Davis’s electric band, this lands between stints with Kenny Burrell, and Donald Byrd. Free Jazz with a Funk and Soul influence, and the politics of the day are what Bartz’s band was all about, and they are in fine form here. The music just washes over you like a soul cleansing shower.

     All in all, not a bad year for good music – if you could find it, and if you could afford it. The future doesn’t look too bright for collectors like me, but I’m not ready to hang it up just yet – no matter how bumpy the road gets.

     In closing, I’ll mention briefly that I read 40 books this past year, and several were among the worst I’ve ever read. I won’t waste your time discussing those. Instead, I’ll recommend the last one I read which happens to be a music memoir. Hunger Makes Me A Modern Girl by Sleater-Kinney guitarist, songwriter, and co-founder Carrie Brownstein is one of the most engaging books I’ve ever read by a musician. Her honesty and candor are disarming, and while most memoirs are not usually what you would call “page turners,” this one certainly is. I read it in just two days, and I expect to read it again one day. Very highly recommended, and you don’t even need to be a fan of the band (though you might become one by the time you finish).

     Most of the best books I read in 2023 were the crime novels of Ross Macdonald featuring his sleuth Lew Archer, and Ian Fleming’s James Bond books. I also read a couple of books by Rock writer Gene Sculatti. For The Records and Tryin’ To Tell A Stranger ‘Bout Rock and Roll were great fun to read, and after the garbage I encountered through most of the year, welcome relief.

They’d barely even gotten a fraction of the way through the night before Harvey felt his capacity for bullshit begin to tip over the edge of tolerable. With his and Mac’s stolen moment already tucked away into his back pocket, and his BAC teetering on the verge of ‘too much,’ he knew the gift exchange was all he was holding out for at that point. Harvard II didn’t care how early his son left the soiree, didn’t care what he did afterward, as long as there was some snapshot of Harvey around the tree with the other junior members of the H.A.H board to send out in their Holiday Newsletter... And God knew Harvey would probably rather do anything than smile in a picture next to Elaine and Danny of all people, but as long as it marked an exit point he’d look forward to it.

He’d been loitering around the Den for a while now; wasting time running his fingers over ribbon and wrapping paper, and nodding his head along to ‘Deck the Halls,’ and ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,’ with alcohol teetering joints.  It wasn’t until he heard a small cough - ehhem - behind him that he found his bubble broken. 

At least it was Rory. A breath of fresh air in the lungs compared to the hot, humid haze of Holly, Hargrove, and Archer that he’d been breathing all night. “What’s up, punk?” Harvey’s smile was small - just for her - but it was warm. “Kinda surprised you don’t have a Holly, a Russell, and a King glued to your side tonight. You having fun yet?”

Oh wow where do I even begin with this question. I will not lie in the first few episodes I did enjoy Sabrina and Harvey. They were sweet and cute and gave me nostalgia from the sitcom, but it felt like something was idk...missing? As soon as Nick entered the pictured I was curious and hooked immediately. I think a lot of it had to do with Kiernan and Gavin's chemistry, but also Sabrina (like us) was like who the eff is this guy and why am I so drawn to him??? Nick just had this powerful energy and connection to her from the get-go and they learned so much from each other. There's something truly special about witnessing someone's first experience with love.

Harvey was a good first boyfriend, someone who could support mortal Sabrina. But she wasn't just a mortal and Nick was someone who could build up both sides of her and genuinely loved her for the whole person that she was. They were real partners who had to overcome somer really tough shit. I love that they just seem magnetic and really make you go "OKAY HOLD UP HOLD ON THIS IS REALLY SOMETHING." Rather than just going "Okay this is fine" like how I felt with Harvey. I loved that their first kiss was in a play because I feel like it really had Sabrina falling harder for him and craving it to be real. IDK there's a lot of reasons to love the characters individually, but together they just make sense. At least for the Sabrina in the CAOS world. I mean just LOOK AT THEM.

Other ships I love ? Hmmmm I was a hardcore Bellarke and am still in mourning. I refuse to watch the last few episodes of the show and haven't even been able to go back and watch the earlier seasons. And it used to be one of my favorite shows. I recently binged Spinning Out so I loved Kat and Justin. But some of my other OTPs are Booth and Bones, Stydia, and Rory and Logan (though I love Jess too.) This one might get me into trouble but I shipped Katniss and Gale hardcore when I read the books. I think Peeta just annoyed me? Idk lol, can't really explain that one. Thanks for asking.

what were your thoughts on tristan?

well to put it simply I HATE him with a burning passion. I know that some people like him or find him attractive or whatever but personally I believe that he is a horrible human being that deserves zero leniency or sympathy. all the daddy issues in the world cannot excuse the shit he pulled!! he's definitely a spoiled rich boy and is so obnoxiously pretentious and self assured but above all else he is—how do I put this?—a future sex offender. hyperbole and everything etc etc but he quite literally harassed rory for the majority of season one which just is not okay? I don't care if he was crushing on her or whatever, plenty of guys crushed on her over the seasons and not even fucking DEAN behaved the way tristan did. and dean is one of the worst characters ever. I mean, first of all, calling her "mary" when she repeatedly asked him to stop is such a douche move, both in starting the nicknaming in the first place and continuously calling her it. he also persues her constantly when she's made it very fucking clear that she has NO interest in him and wants him to leave her alone. not a "I like you but I'm in denial" way or whatever, in an actual "I hate you and am repulsed by you repeatedly coming onto me" way. and again, I hate dean, but tristan's behavior towards him at the dance was also inexcusable. I don't care if he was jealous!! jess was jealous of her and dean too and never acted that way. he just would not leave her alone, and he had this really creepy habit of cornering her or backing her up against walls when he was hitting on he and it was just. so so creepy it makes my skin crawl

I know that for a few episodes there it seemed like he was going to get better, maybe, ish, but then he ruins rory and paris' friendship by telling paris that rory said he should ask paris out. and then he reverts back to his same old shit!! again, I don't care that he wanted rory and she didn't want him back. I don't care if she kissed him and then cried. plenty of guys are hurt and then don't harass the girls that hurt them. but no, he had to pursue her even after all that, and also ruin rory's friendship with paris a SECOND TIME in the hopes that rory would agree to go to the concert with him after she ALREADY SAID NO. a concert for an artist he didn't even care enough to learn anything about lmao it costs $0 to know that pj harvey is a woman lmao. and then him taking her books until she agreed to go out with him is so fucking detestable it makes me absolutely furious. that is not acceptable behavior in any way shape or form after all his unforgivable behavior it is one more absolutely unforgivable thing. I'll say again: it doesn't matter if he liked her. plenty of teenage boys with crushes don't pull that shit. I mean, he said to rory "why are you fighting it? you know you're gonna give in eventually" (it might not be 100% that line but thuat's almost exactly it). how creepy is that??

You watched her as she got out of school. Chilton was on your way to work, and you didn't mind walking a little bit slower at three o'clock and crash with some private school students on their way home.

She was always there at three o'clock.

"Hey, Gilmore!" You yelled, making her raise his eyes from her book and look at you. You noticed how identifying you wasn't as pleasant as you hoped it was. "What are you reading on this fine evening?" 

"How to punch an annoying guy in ten steps, and I'm a fast learner."

You sat down next to her, making Gilmore move a few inches away from you, not caring if you noticed.

"I'm kinda busy here, Y/N, why don't you go and talk to your fan club?" Asked Rory in a high pitched voice, pointing the groupie of girls watching you. You waved at them before focusing all your eyes on Rory Gilmore.

You first met her a few months ago when your boss made you make delivery in Stars Hollow, to a diner, and she was there. Rory was eating her book with her eyes as she drank her black coffee which had so much more coffee than water. And the fact that she didn't care for you at all made you like her so much.

One day on your way to work, you saw her. She was in front of Chilton, sitting on the bus stop with a book on her hand. And now, seeing Rory every day was part of your routine.

"So, do you like PJ Harvey?"

"Who doesn't? She's great." You smiled at her answer. "why do you care what I like, Y/N?"

"My sister gave her tickets, and you wouldn't guess who came to my mind at that moment?" 

"Phoebe Cates?" She assumed, referring to the attractive 80s actress.

"You," you corrected her, making Rory roll her eyes. "It's just a concert. Besides, it would be cool if we get to know each other in any other place that isn't this fancy and prestigious school, don't you think?"

"Sorry, I forgot I'm too fancy and elegant for you. Why would you go out with me? I'm on the top floor of the ship, Jack." A Titanic reference. She always spoke in pop culture references. 

"I mean that this is your territory and for you to get to know me, you need to spend time in my comfort zone."

"You make it sound like your territory has cows and chickens and you wear a cowboy hat on weekdays."

You laughed.

"The cowboy hat is only for weekends, m'lady." You made her chuckle, just a bit. "Please, do I look like a farmer boy to you, Gilmore?"

You didn't. Your leather jacket and your neck tattoos weren't usual for a country boy. Nothing of you made you look like a farmer boy.

You are a city boy, a Hartford man with no money to spent blindness. You drove your old man's motorcycle without his permission, and it was a very cliche of you to be flirting with a correct and delicate girl like you though Rory Gilmore was.

But she wasn't like all the rich girls that attended Chilton. She was not a millionaire, not a delicate girl, didn't wear make up other than a sparkly pink lipgloss and some transparent mascara. That was it. Oh, but you see a girl like that, and your instinct is to protect her. Her innocent face, and those big dove eyes that made her look so beautiful for you, didn't they?

Rory Gilmore caught your attention the minute you looked at her.

Her beauty was different. Wasn't like a model of Vogue, or some concept of pretty that the media has published. Something in her expressions and details made her look like she was a princess, those delicate factions and the innocence that brightened her eyes. 

"Fine, Noah Calhoun, let's go and see PJ Harvey."

"Great," you said softly, kissing her cheek quickly. "I'll pick you up on Friday night. Where do you live? What's your number?"

"Chill out, J Edgar Hoover. How do I know you aren't going to Lee Harvey Oswald me when I'm not looking?"

"Have you ever talked normally and not in pop culture references?"

"Why would I do that?" She asked, writing her address on a post-it. "Here. It's in Stars Hollow. Please, don't kill me one night."

"You aren't my type of victim. I'll pick you up at seven." 

And with that, you left Rory sitting on the bus stop.

"What would you wear to a PJ Harvey concert in Hartford?" Asked Rory to Lorelai as she picked up her clothes and looked at them.

"A whistle, a pepper spray and a phone dialling to 911," answered her mom as she sat on the chair in Rory's room. "Do I know this guy?"

"I don't think you do, and if you did, I would have a lot of questions."

A bright moving line illuminated the curtains of the room from the outside. Lorelai looked over the window to see you getting out of your motorcycle. 

"No!" She yelled. "A motorcycle?"

"He's here!?" Exclaimed Rory, looking over the window to you standing next to your bike. "I am not ready."

Rory was panicking. She didn't have a minimal idea of what to wear and you were already outside, waiting for her.

"Ok, uhm, wear that blue shirt because you look good in it, some black jeans and your tennis. I'll go distract James Dean over there.

"Go! Go!"

Lorelai ran towards the door, opening and giving you a sign to come in.

Boy, you didn't want to, but since she was the one letting Rory go out with you, you didn't have a chance.

"Well, hello, there. I'm Lorelai, I'm Rory's mom, come on in."

"I'm Y/N," you introduced yourself with a particular tone like you didn't care much about what she thought. "Is Rory ready?"

"She's finishing up. You know, putting on lipgloss and grabbing a Poptart, hopefully not her last supper," Lorelai whispered the last part, making you raise your eyebrows. "So, Y/N, where do you go to school?"

"In a public school at Hartford. I work too."

"What do you do? Tattoo shop?"

"Actually, food deliveries. I'm the provider of your diner, in fact."

Lorelai raised her eyebrows.

"So you know Luke?"

"I know how he looks and talks."

"I know him too! He's one of my best friends."

"He kinda hates me."

"Right."

Both of you wished that Rory would appear in any second now.

"I'm ready!" Exclaimed Rory innocently, appearing at the door with a smile. "What were you guy talking about?"

"... baseball caps," said Lorelai and you nodded. "You look great, honey, have fun. But not so much fun." 

You opened the door for Rory, who smiled at you before stepping outside. You turned around to look at Lorelai.

"Have a nice night, Miss Gilmore."

"Take care. Drive safe!" You could hear her yell even though you closed the door. "Don't accept candy from strangers!"

You helped Rory get on the bike carefully, and she smiled at you while you put her helmet on.

"I feel like a little kid with this gigantic helmet." You laughed.

"You have a small head, Gilmore." She rolled her eyes.

"You are a total Casanova, aren't you?"

You grabbed her hands and placed them on your waist before turning on the bike. 

"Just hold on, Bambi."

And with that, you left the driveway of the Gilmore house, driving away.

Lorelai was quick enough to run towards the phone and jump to grab it, falling to the floor as she dialled the diner's number.

"Luke's diner, this is Luke."

"My daughter just left to go to a concert in the city on a motorcycle with your provider!"

"What? Are you doing a Margot Kidder impression again?" He asked from the other side of the line, making Lorelai roll her eyes. "Who left on a motorcycle?"

"Rory! Rory left on a motorcycle with a tattooed rebel guy! They were going to a PJ Harvey concert in Hartford! Am I the only one who sees the problem here?"

"Wait, my provider... you mean Y/N Y/L/N?" 

"So you know his name, perfect. That way we know what to tell the cops when Sylvester Stallone kidnaps my daughter!"

"Hey, chill out, he is a good kid."

"He has a black dragon tattoed on his neck. Do you know any good kid with a mythological creature that shoots fire from its mouth tattoed on their skin?"

She heard Luke sigh.

"Rory is a great kid. If she thinks he is a good guy, then he is. She wouldn't go out with a guy who she thinks is bad for her."

"Didn't she like Jess at some point?"

A silence reached the conversation until Luke spoke again.

"I'm on my way. Can't believe you let her go out with that thug, he has broken at least two eggs in his deliveries, he doesn't know how to take care of a girl. That girl has no judgement, that's why you are there!"

"I loved it when she sang The Mess We Are In, I really loved it," she said as you parked in front of her house. 

You had a lot of fun at the concert, and you still couldn't believe she even accepted to go. You've known her for a while now, and she's always been ignorant to your flirting or propositions. Something must have changed beneath these days that made her change her mind.

"I had so much fun, Y/N," she told you as she started to take off your jacket, but you let her keep it.

"Looks better on you." She rolled her eyes.

"Could you be any more cliche?"

"I haven't quoted Jane Austen yet."

"Yet?"

You nodded before leaning in, kissing her lips softly as you felt her tremble to your touch.

You ran your hand through her hair, making slow movements with your head before breaking apart, giving her a last short kiss before stepping back.

"See you on Monday, Rory Gilmore." You put on your helmet, and she smiled.

"Bye, Y/N.”

You gave her a tiny smirk before turning on the engine and driving away. She looked at you go, remembering how much fun she had with you that night.

Quickly, she ran towards her house, opening the door and finding her mom and Luke sitting on the couch. Both stood up, looking at the smiley girl.

"How did it go?" Asked Lorelai, and Rory blushed.

"Perfect," she said softly, hugging her mom. "Thanks for letting me go, it was the best night ever." 

After she said hi to Luke, she ran towards her bedroom and jump into the bed, staring at the dark night and stars with a big smile.

Lorelai looked at her friend with an emotionless expression on her face.

"I don't like that guy," she said, "at all."

I’ve written a multichapter fanfic that took 2 characters from a tv show who never interacted or had scenes together & wrote them as a couple in a modern setting as opposed to the post apocalyptic story/setting of the show. I’d like to turn it into an original story bc thats basically what it is since in a modern setting jobs/events/relationships & characterization of at least 1 of the characters would be VERY different. But I just can’t part w/first names & 1 is mildly unique. Is this ok to do?

Using Canon Names for Fan-Fiction Turned Original

As hard as it would be to part with those names, I’m afraid you’re going to have to part with one of them. As long as these characters have evolved into entirely new characters, no longer obviously associated with their source characters, it’s probably fine to use one of the names, but both is going to be pushing it, because that second name is going to provide context for the first. Imagine:

Percy vs Percy & Hermione Alice vs Alice & Jacob Daryl vs Daryl & Lori Caesar vs Caesar & Effie Stefan vs Stefan & Bonnie

Once you put that second name in there, it makes your source material more obvious.

Ideally, you’ll use the name that isn’t unique, as a name that’s unique is probably more likely to be associated with a show, book, or movie that made it popular. 

So, pick one of the names, then for the other one find a name that’s similar enough that it has the same vibes. For example, let’s look at alternatives for the name Harry... Names that Rhyme

Barry, Jerry, Gary, Perry, Terry, Larry, Carey, Derry

Names that Begin with the Same Letter Henry, Harvey, Harrison, Harris, Hartley

Names that End with the Same Sound Ari, Aubrey, Avery, Cory, Gregory, Jory, Maury, Rory, Zachary, 

So, if your original couple was say, Harry and Luna... which Harry Potter fans would immediately associate with characters they love... if you were to change it to Carey and Luna, Harvey and Luna, or Jory and Luna, suddenly it’s not so obvious. :)

Kirsty and Kit and/or Kirsty and El headcanons?

Kirsty and Kit

I feel like they would have a bit of tension ( through neither of the kids fault tho) on their relationship over Richard because while Richard dotes on the girls he’s very much emotionally abusive to Kit 

( think sorta like that episode where Lorelai was telling him he has to respect her boundaries/judgement and he hits her with “You think I don’t know why you “invited” me here” and proceeds to make it about making her feel guilty instead of apologizing. Or when he pulls the Yale stuff and instead of saying “yes sorry  i shouldn't have  lied to literally everyone in the car” pulls out the “you know nothing about the Ivy league” sucker punch like specifically Richard reacts badly to being challenged or disagreed with and Kit Very Much challenges him at any time he pulls stuff like this so sadly Richard treats him about as well as he treats Lorelai he’s always bringing up Kit’s shortcomings when Kit disagrees with him and lambasting him with them.)

I feel like Richard would kinda reign it back around Kirsty tho ( he does around Rory becuase sorta how he apologized to Rory over Dean he cares very much about upsetting her and he and Kirsty seem close so i feel like it’d be similar)

Kit wouldn’t tell Kirtsy whenever Richard slides back to being bad to him  😭

Kit would probably also go “I have to take care of her” about Kirsty like he does about Rory and try to be there for all the things Christopher isn’t there for. Like he would go to all her dance recitals and events and just “i gotta be her dad” Kit honey tho lol

He’d support her relationship with the grandparents even as his becomes distanced. ( he stops going to Friday night dinners after graduation ) 

Kirsty might  be able to mitigate the sorta fight/sorta necessary sibling talk that Kit and Rory have coming because Kit means well but is ( unsurprisingly) a bit over protective and Rory eventually has to be like “it was never your job to take care of me and also sometimes you make things worse” ( ie bringing up Paris parents because Paris was cornering Rory) and Kit’s just like “wow okay ow” and is kinda hurt about about and neither of them are good at Feelings bc they’re Gilmores just because from what you’ve told me Kirsty’s good at interventions/picking up other’s emotions.

We stan queer Gilmore kids solidarity. Kit would probably come out to Kirsty before he comes out to everyone else ( he does it pretty early) 

They’ve both gotten in at least one fight per school ( elementary , middle, high) over defending each other. 

Kirsty would be one of the few people to know Kit skips school with Zack on father’s day. And that he kinda disappears that day because it hurts him not because he’s being a slacker. ( i mean he IS a slacker but that day has a lot more to it for him yknow but hes not about to disclose that) 

Kit punching Mitchum and Kirsty slapping Shira on the same episode. Yes please. 

He’d probably ask Kirsty for advice on how to help Rory  ( her panic attacks don’t really go away in his fic and she struggles with bunrout/wondering if she wants journalism still and basically crashes at Kit’s while she does so bc “Yales bad for you and so are the Gilmores”) like probably after We Got Magic To Do because he’s never had to deal with anything like this and “i can’t punch it what tf do I do?” but Kirsty being there gives him someone that would actually...know how the anxiety stuff works.

He goes to see her dances in NY and takes her flowers ( yes this is based on that gif but also im not sorry bc babies) 

El and Kirsty

They’re pretty good hanging out nonverbal like just sitting down and hanging out together because they both know words are hard sometimes. 

Kirsty’s probably one of the only  people who know he likes video game scores ( it helps him focus) as well a some of the bands/genres Lane deems “need to go extinct” ( bc i mean hes sure not telling her and Lore and Rory can be a bit judgy about music too) 

Likewise she’s probably the only one he tells that he’s lowering his coffee intake because it fucks with his anxiety/meds specially after Yale. ( he doesnt tell lorelai or rory bc of their whole “decaf is blasphemy”

Rip Paris when she takes El’s scicom assignments in the newspaper after the PJ Harvey debacle lmao 

Rip Paris whenever she calls El “the one who doesn’t talk”

But also RIP Paris’ if she’s ever mean to Kirsty/drags Kirsty into anything because El’s switch from creampuff to verbally shutting someone down no holds barred aside from seeing someone treated unfairly ( ie Brad) are his siblings. ( even if he has an anxiety attack after look, its the thought  that counts)

He’d keep in contact with her when she goes to NY ( specially bc im not sure if he goes to Washington) and go to her dances.

Fights are hard on him but he’d call Lorelai out when she’s unfair to Kirsty

Kirsty would probably be the one to find out that his panic attacks are getting worse during freshman year at Yale ( for him its yeah like Rory hes struggling to find material Actually Hard and the class load is burying him but also “hey turns out when that happens and you and you’re on meds for GAD which you forget to take because you haven't stopped doing homework for hours and also somehow you’re still scraping by and time is a foreign concept so less food and sleep” it uh...comes back to bite you...Hard) he doesn’t tell Lorelai  because like Rory he hates the idea of letting people down/having people know he’s struggling and he doesn’t tell Rory because he knows she's as busy as him/probably struggling too and doesn’t even see her that often anyways bc …yeah. 

Honestly she’d probably  be the one to find him in Shrinking Lorelais since Lorelai and Rory are crying on the married man in their lives. 

I have this feeling that despite Kirsty sometimes feeling left out withb El and Rory and El sometimes feeling left out with Kirsty and Rory ( hes the only boy and also the only one not dating when they're in hs and its just stuff like that) and later with Jess and Kirsty they also have things that are just theirs ( jogging together, knowing when each other’s anxiety’s spike, keeping feelings secret) and it makes me very ;A;. like they would just be so in each other’s corners.

Salt fests about Christopher. Kirsty’s the only one who knows how much he hates getting books from him because its just him lumping him together with Rory and is the only one who’s ever actually head him say “I'm not even worth googling to him” bc like he doesnt even tell Rory that bc Rory likes Christopher but Kirsty would get it.

El respects that Kirsty keeps things that upset her to herself and doesn’t make her open up but also makes sure to give her words of affirmation when he can tell she’s sad/off/upset. 

Kirsty’s the first person he tells both about figuring out he’s ace ( in 2001) and that he’s aroace ( in Yale) 

I’m still very here for El taking hits from Dean in Keg!Max over Kirsty and falling asleep in her hospital bed like yes gimme. 

He tends to go see Kirsty ( and Trista, Logan and Jess depending on timeline) after having to spend time with Christopher to see Gigi because she gets it. And also probably shows up nonverbal sometimes but Kirsty can tell and they just like read or chill ( just El not being alone after dealing with Christopher)

On the heels of that El supporting Kirsty on cutting Christopher out her life ;A;

I'm so happy that you love Folklore too! It's not just my favorite Taylor Swift album, but easily one of by favorite albums, full stop :) Here's a fun challenge: which Folklore songs remind you of a certain ship? Taylor Swift’s latest album is a masterclass of musical poetry and storytelling. Rarely do I download every song a musician puts out on a new album (I tend to pick and choose), but I can genuinely say I never hit DOWNLOAD so fast in my life before than I did with Folklore! I love all sixteen tracks! I’ve been listening to them on a loop for two days straight and I imagine that’s likely to continue for the foreseeable future.

Also, YASSS! That is a fun challenge! It’s also one I can manage because I’ve been thinking about how certain songs/lyrics apply to many of my ships since I first started listening anyway. Prepare yourself. This is gonna be long. 😁

Okay SO, for Literati... 

If I’m angling to lean into s3-s6 angst that was Rory and Jess at that point in the OG series, then I’d say the 1 is a good fit. That song has the same energy as someone who’s writing a goodbye letter to a loved one that will never be sent. It’s cleansing. Cathartic. An exorcism of feeling. It absolutely reeks of regret and longing with just a touch of look-back-over-your-shoulder-and-wish, just wish, that things could have been different:

“But we were something, don't you think so?”

“And if my wishes came true It would've been you“

“But it would've been fun If you would've been the one”

However, if I’m in more of a They’ll Come Back to Each Other mood with Literati then I think this is me trying screams Rory and Jess. That song emanates nostalgia! It’s haunting in tone (with the echoes, with some slight vibrato). The lyrics bleed with feeling, with emotion that should have rusted long ago but hasn’t. Love is still as red as it was at the beginning of everything only now...only now there’s realization and an attempt at atonement for past mistakes...

“I didn't know if you'd care if I came back I have a lot of regrets about that Pulled the car off the road to the lookout Could've followed my fears all the way down And maybe I don't quite know what to say But I'm here in your doorway“

It's hard to be anywhere these days When all I want is you You're a flashback in a film reel On the one screen in my town (the town, of course, made me think of Stars Hollow)

I just wanted you to know That this is me trying At least I'm trying

For Darcy and Elizabeth, I think seven works well for them in spots. If you listen to the song, there’s a little bit of an echoey timber to the way Taylor sings it and that gave me the sense of how classic love stories/literature kind of ripple across time, you know? How the pages may crinkle or yellow over the years, but they still leave their mark. Plus, there’s also the piano in the background. Almost feather light. It mixes with what sounds like violins in places. Idk, it has a slight P&P 2005 vibe about it to me:

“Please picture me in the weeds Before I learned civility” >> (Because did Darcy learn civility before or after Lizzie eviscerated him mid-proposal at Rosings? Did Lizzie learn to temper her prejudice before or after Lydia ran away with Wickham?)

“Passed down like folk songs Our love lasts so long“ >> (Elizabeth says herself she’s going to be happier than Jane because “[she] laughs; [her sister] only smiles.”)

I have a couple for Klaroline, too. hoax jumped out at me for them first because it’s layered with darkness and angst. The imagery pops. It’s all smoking guns and eclipsed suns and screaming on cliffsides; which, for a pair of supernaturals, and for an Original who has a history of leaving blood in his wake, I think some visuals of misery and violence are a fitting thing. I’m also obsessed with the piano in this. The way she strokes her fingers over the keys - quick tap, tap, taps then a slow one or two in places - gives you a sense of running. It’s a great parallel to her lyric about “sleepless nights.” Here are some other Klaroline-heavy lyrics in this song:

“You knew it still hurts underneath my scars From when they pulled me apart But what you did was just as dark Darling, this was just as hard As when they pulled me apart” >> (This whole section just booms with “I’ve shown kindness. Forgiveness. Pity. For you, Caroline It was all for you” energy.)

“Your faithless love's the only hoax I believe in Don't want no other shade of blue But you No other sadness in the world would do“

peace is the other song that had me crying in Klaroline. I like the softness of it, the vulnerability. I imagine it more from Klaus’s perspective, though, because it strikes me as more confessional in nature. Like it’s a revelation that’s being dragged across his teeth and he wants to scream. Almost as if these aren’t necessarily feelings he wants to share, or wants known, but there’s just no holding them back now. He’s thrown off the lid. Caroline needs to be able to walk toward him with her eyes wide open, so he only speaks truth, he only speaks honesty now. Similar to hoax, this song has darker imagery as well. There’s fire and fences and trenches and all that jazz:

“Your integrity makes me seem small You paint dreamscapes on the wall“ >> (Same energy as “you’re strong, beautiful, full of light.”)

“And you know that I'd Swing with you for the fences Sit with you in the trenches” >> (basically a promise that he’d fight FOR her and WITH her)

“But I'm a fire and I'll keep your brittle heart warm If your cascade ocean wave blues come All these people think love's for show But I would die for you in secret“ >> (THIS IS THE PART THAT HITS ME THE MOST BC so much of Klaus’s love is shown not spoken, so yeah, he dies for her in secret all. the. time. already. There are 5 other ways I could interpret that as well. But I will spare you haha)

“The devil's in the details

“Would it be enough If I could never give you peace?” >>With supernatural enemies everywhere, there won’t be much peace, will there?

I get walloped with Braime/Jaime and Brienne feels every time I listen to epiphany. Like, it’s actually rude how much this song makes me think of them. I can close my eyes and hear their swords clanging, taste the blood of their injuries on my tongue; feel the ash claw their throats, sting their eyes. Just--ah! The two of them serving, fighting back-to-back, two knights with an unspoken oath to protect a love they haven’t even voiced out loud yet...*cries*

“Only twenty minutes to sleep But you dream of some epiphany Just one single glimpse of relief To make some sense of what you've seen

“With you, I serve With you, I fall down Down Watch you breathin' Watch you breathin' out Out“

invisible strings makes me think of Shirbert/Anne and Gilbert. I love the pluck of guitar strings and how it has this air of innocence and sunshine and green grasses about it even though it’s being told/sung from a hilltop of experience. There’s so much imagery in this song, so much color and figurative language, that I can’t help but think it’s perfect for our imaginative dreamy-eyed girl and the boy who’s adored her since he first tugged her pigtails and called her Carrots in that schoolroom:

“Green was the color of the grass Where I used to read at Centennial Park >> (Can’t you just picture Anne lying in the grass, a book in her hand, flowers in her hair?) I used to think I would meet somebody there Teal was the color of your shirt When you were sixteen at the yogurt shop“

“Time, curious time Gave me no compasses, gave me no signs Were there clues I didn't see?“

“Wool to brave the seasons One single thread of gold Tied me to you“ >> (Love the warmth and vibrancy of this. The wool makes me think of Avonlea blanketed in snow; the gold has me drinking sunshine, smelling goldenrod in October)

“Time, wondrous time Gave me the blues and then purple-pink skies“

“And isn't it just so pretty to think All along there was some Invisible string Tying you to me?“ (Love the idea of the string representing their friendship, how it never snipped. How it only braided together, growing tauter, closer, all the time.)

august hits me with a waterfall of Darvey/Donna and Harvey feels. There’s a wistfulness about this song that settles in my gut, twisting it with longing, with musings of all those Almosts in relationships that were so close to coming to fruition then never did. It’s so incredibly reminiscent of how Donna and Harvey toe the lie between friends and almost lovers who-are-nearly-there-but-not-quite for 12 years. IT HURTS SO GOOD.

“Back when we were still changin' for the better >> (THIS IS SO EMOTIONALLY RESONANT IT HURTS) Wanting was enough For me, it was enough To live for the hope of it all Canceled plans just in case you'd call”

But I can see us lost in the memory August slipped away into a moment in time 'Cause it was never mine And I can see us twisted in bedsheets August sipped away like a bottle of wine 'Cause you were never mine >> (Obviously I’m swimming in the angst of this until my fingers get all pruny.) 

Finally there’s mirrorball which is Jisbon/Jane and Lisbon all the way! It’s funny because when I first listened to Folkore I thought that’d be one of the last songs I’d pair with a ship?? YET HERE I AM. Jane was in the carnival circuit growing up and I cannot, for the life of me, stop attaching him to all the descriptions of the circus/revelry. So much of his schtick throughout the show comes down to trickery and observation, which he uses to size people up, and sarcasm, which he often employs as a defense mechanism to keep people at an emotional distance. I like the theme of this song for him and Lisbon. As the mirrorball, he’s shining his true self only for her. She’s the only person who sees his “shattered edges”; she’s not distracted by all his “glistening.” Here are my favorite lyrics that are applicable to them:

“I'm a mirrorball I'll show you every version of yourself tonight

“I can change everything about me to fit in You are not like the regulars The masquerade revelers Drunk as they watch my shattered edges glisten” >> (Okay, so this makes me think Jane’s on camera confession to Erica Flynn: “I’m looking for someone who…uh, someone I can trust. Someone strong. Someone at peace with themselves. Someone better than me. Someone who knows the…worst side of me and still loves me.")

“And they called off the circus, burned the disco down When they sent home the horses and the rodeo clowns I'm still on that tightrope I'm still trying everything to get you laughing at me”

Top 10 Netflix TV Shows to Binge during Quarantine & Chill

To help out my fellow friends in lockdown and so you don’t have to put up the standard Instagram story asking, I’ll be doing a quick countdown of my top 10 tv shows available on Netflix that will hopefully help you all pass this monotonous time.

This goes without saying but I’m going to say it anyways: all opinions are my own and as admittedly these are all very popular shows please feel free to shoot me suggestions to broaden my own horizons!

I’m going to try and create some semblance of order and countdown from 10! So, without further ado…

10. American Horror Story

Okays, so maybe not one if you scare easily although it’s definitely verging more towards the creepy and uncomfortable side than horror. The good thing about this show is if you don’t like the plot, not to worry because the next season is a completely different ball game with a new story, new characters and probably even a different time period, making the show more of an anthology than a series. A nice little link is the use of the same actors each season and if you look closely, you’ll see the Easter eggs and links between!

It remains popular amongst it’s fanbase and although the initial hype that made me jump on the bandwagon in 2011 has eventually died down it’s still one to check out, if at least just for the first three seasons, if you want something a little strange and peculiar.

9. Gilmore Girls

Set in the little dreamy American town of Stars Hollow with fast-talking sarcastic humour and a coffee-loving mother and daughter bond at the centre. This is one for those of us who appreciate many a cultural reference and enjoys many a love triangle. An easy watch with truly engaging characters you’ll be sad when this show comes to an end… but not to worry they do one more season, A Year in the Life, to wrap everything up with a bow.

Perfect for an easy watch about college, boys, and most complicated of all… family!

8. Prison Break

A true classic! You’d be hard pressed to find someone that doesn’t consider this show one of the greats. It’s the one your mum’s boyfriend will continue to talk about and recommend time and time again, right? Just me? Well I finally gave in and was caught into the binge that is Wentworth Miller.

We see him play Michael Scofield, a structural engineer who gets himself purposefully incarcerated in order to save his innocent brother Lincoln from death row, with a classic prison escape. If nothing else this show has you on the edge of your seat for the first season and impressed at the continual twists and turns the character relations and plot takes. This is a show you want to see before it is eventually spoiled for you…

7. You

Although by show of hands Joe Goldberg is decidedly just Dan Humphreys on steroids, I can’t deny that each Boxing Day that the new season was released it was binged in one day. See Joe fall in love and do anything to keep it. Character driven; monologue driven. Binging this show may have you questioning who’s side you’re on once you’re rooting for the murderer and it’ll make you gasp out loud while doing it.

Just don’t get too attached to any of the characters…

6. Stranger Things

With an entrancing 80s vibe aesthetic we centre around the small town of Hawkins and a group of best friends during the disappearance of their friend Will and the appearance of a young mute girl with a shaved head and some peculiar abilities. As the story unravels, we’re brought into the world of the supernatural and government conspiracies based loosely on some very real and very spooky Soviet Union experiments. You may also be thinking ‘hey, these kids look familiar’ and that’s right they’re in every other show with a similar 80s theme (see: IT and I Am Not Okay With This). Oh, and Winona Ryder.

I can see this show climbing the list when I finally get round to watching that last season…

5. Peaky Blinders

I’m just going to say it, it’s cool. What gang movie or show isn’t? We see the Shelby family conduct some dodgy business in 1919 Birmingham as part of the gang, the Peaky Blinders (based however loosely on the real Peaky Blinders street gang in Birmingham). Perfect for fans of DiCaprio’s Gangs of New York. Run ins with the law, underhand criminal happenings in the back room of a bar, gang wars. Have I said enough? Cillian Murphy in a suit perhaps?

The only thing that stops this show being further up the list is despite the overall plot being capturing, each individual episode runs slightly slow, although that won’t affect the awe-feeling at the end of each one.

If nothing else you’ll really get off on the fun of saying ‘By order, of the Peaky focking Blinders!’ again and again until you drive even yourself crazy.

4. Suits

This one nearly made me change my whole career path and choose law for a degree.

With this show you’ve really got to binge to keep up with the legal jargon but it’s oh so worth it. Mike Ross, an extremely smart college dropout is questionably hired by Harvey Specter, high flying lawyer for a prestigious New York law firm, all while hiding Mike’s secret. And wearing lots and lots of very nice suits.

You’ll be surprised how fast you get sucked into the daily going-on of the law office. Plus, you get to see Meghan Markle (fun fact: who’s real name is Rachel!) pre-royalty vibes. Sleek, sexy, sophisticated, sharp-dialogue and by episode three you’ll be singing the Greenback Boogie and buying your own ‘You Just Got Litt Up!’ mug by the end of the week.

3. Atypical

A truly honest coming of age story as Sam Gardner, a teenager on the autism spectrum, attempts to navigate high school, family, friends, love and… penguins? This is one where you’ll just have to trust me and watch to understand.

2. The Vampire Diaries

Now we’re getting down to the nitty gritty. Okays, yes, if you’re a regular binger then chances are you’ve already saw this show. This show has been on my favourites list since the day it aired in 2008. The first adaptation ever (it’s the English student in me, sorry) that was better than the book and with 171 episodes it’s the ultimate binge.

Vampires (not the sparkly kind), witches, werewolves and love triangles all clash in the small town of Mystic Falls. Granted it sounds like a chick-flick, but I know just as many boy friends as girls that have got sucked (ha, get it?) into this rollercoaster. This is my number one recommendation to anyone who asks for a new show and I’ll say now what I always say: give this show a go and once you get over the cheesiness of the angsty story-telling from the beginning of Season One, then it’ll be worth every moment.

Oh… my… god!

The one where it’s controversial.

You probably love it, hate it or if you’re a culchie then you’re most likely discovering it for the first time (which still baffles me). If you didn’t grow up with this show on E4 nine times a day before Comedy Central stole it then I do feel sorry for you. A truly iconic show and if you truly believe that loving it is not a personality trait then I beg to differ.

Six friends learn about life, family, careers and relationships in New York city.

With 10 seasons it’s the ultimate binge and will always place my number one!

I’m so sorry that this book me forever to get to! Finally took the time to get it done. I’m in a reading slump the now so hope talking about books will help me out of it!

Hmm well looking through all the books I’ve read this year so far, I think I’d like Harvey from The Forgotten Girl by Rio Youers. He is a lovely guy, plays guitar, can take a fuckin punch let me tell you! Also his commitment to things and people is very admirable.  

Prologue: What is a book that hasn’t been released that you want to read?

Oh gosh, there are so many! So far this year, there have been so SO many books that I’m foaming at the mouth for. My bank account is going to be in flames this year with all the book buying aahhhhh but anyway, here’s a few:

The Girl in Red by Christina Henry (A little red riding hood retelling.)

Confessions of a Bookseller by Shaun Bythell (I can’t wait for this! I know I’m already rating this five stars!)

Wilder Girls by Rory Power (I’ve no idea what this is about but thE COVER!)

Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir (An adult fantasy novel and God I hope its dark.)

Addendum: What is a book trope you can’t stand?

Alright, bare with me while I try and explain this…

I can’t stand the overbearing/rapey men. NOW having said that I’m not mad at their being one or two of those characters but when a book has like four scenes, all different men (sometimes up to three in a scene), were there is sexual and physical harm is being suggested or about to happen. NOW when I say this, it is only in the cases were the author has just seemed to throw it in out of nowhere. Or for example, like….

“Right ok…I have a female character…I need to make her a strong woman so I’m going to set a bunch of men on her and she’ll get out of it with the words she uses…”

I’m not very good when it comes to describing this stuff…so I suppose in short I hate the trope of having men advancing on woman just to use it as a moment to go “See look! I wrote good strong woman!”

Thousands of Maritime children prepare for COVID-19 vaccine

Thousands of children aged five to 11-years-old across the Maritimes are preparing to get their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

As of Saturday, more than ten thousand appointments had been booked in New Brunswick. In Nova Scotia, parents were quick to jump online when bookings opened Friday.

Judy Harvey was one of them. Her son just turned 12 and will be vaccinated Dec. 9.

“I've always wanted it since last year but I couldn't get it because I was 11 and yeah I think it's going to be really good,” her son Darius said.

Twins Rori and Georgia Gillis are also counting down the days.

Their mother, Holly Gillis, is the director of public health with Nova Scotia Public Health. The 11-year-old girls understand the disruptions COVID-19 has caused by cancelling classes at school and sports.

Georgia knows why she wants the vaccine.

“So I can do my sports and go out to eat,” she said.

“More protected and safe,” her twin sister Rori said.

IWK Pediatric Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Jeannette Comeau says no corners have been cut in approving these vaccines.

Comeau said the data provided by Pfzier evaluated more than 3000 children who received the vaccine, evaluating its efficacy and its side effects.

She says side effects may include a sore arm or a fever but if that happens, she recommends treating the child with medication.

“In the clinical trials there were actually no cases of myocarditis or pericarditis in the children,” she said, adding the extremely rare side effect is much more likely to occur if someone contracts COVID-19.

“We’re watching very closely.”

COVID-19 vaccines for children are a third of the dose given to adolescents and adults and have now been widely administered in the United States after it was approved about a month ago.

“We continue to have an active surveillance program even after we’ve approved vaccines so we’re continuing to monitor, continuing to make sure the safety profile is as it looked. So I’m very confident in these vaccines,” she said.

For anyone who is nervous about getting vaccines - a feeling she says is very normal, Dr. Comeau encourages people looking at some of the resources created by the IWK.
