Haven’t seen the new Wicked movie yet, but I am forever impressed by the fact that someone saw the “Wizard of Oz” and was like:
“Hm. Yes. I see. Okay. The wicked witch and that scarecrow? They’re in love for sure.”
“The witch who sets him on fire?”
“It’s a complicated situation.”

Love seeing the new generation find out how, well, gay "Wicked" is.
Closeted high femme dressed as the lesbian flag not getting on her rebellious activist bestie's broom and regretting it for the rest of her conformist life.

there is a lot of comedy potential in how Elphaba truly cannot comprehend anyone flirting with her. Fiyero flirted with her twice super blatantly and only moved on after being shut down, he stumbled over his words, he brought her flowers, he’s got heart eye disease so bad its chronic.

I know for a lot of people the relationship between Elphaba and Fiyero feels rushed and underdeveloped, but, I don't know, I happen to like the fact that she had such a strong impact on his life in such a short amount of time... like, yes! of course she altered his brain chemistry and whole philosophy of life after a grand total of 3 encounters, she really is THAT girl (I just realized what I did there as soon as I finished typing it, I swear the pun was not intended).
I think they gravitated towards each other because they were exactly what the other needed in their lives.
In the beginning Fiyero was a person that felt comfortable reducing his entire existence and purpose to just being a "hot prince with a scandalacious reputation". But then he meets Elphaba, and she is different than anyone else he'd ever met in all those schools he went to, in more ways than one. She is Not Impressed by his looks or his title. She challenges him because she's able to look past his "nothing matters" bullshit and see that he's actually a really kind, caring person. She looks at him like she knows that he can do better, be better ("no matter how shallow and self-absorbed you pretend to be..."). She inspired him to become the best version of himself.
Fiyero needed that, someone to push him to take control of his life and act upon his wants and beliefs. Without Elphaba he would've had a content but unfulfilled life.
And Elphaba needed someone to stand by her, to not leave her alone, to not be ashamed of her, to fight for her, to prioritize her, and to love her unapologetically. That person is Fiyero (and yes, Glinda could've been that person too, but ultimately she made her choice, and by the time she realized she chose wrong it was already too late).
Elphaba spent her whole life feeling unwanted. She needed someone that would spend years looking for her!!! Someone that would risk everything for her!!! Fiyero did that!!! That man was devoted!!! And that's exactly what she deserved!!!
She was alone her whole life until Glinda (except for Nessa, I guess, but even in that relationship Elphaba was always the one that had to take care of her sister), and she is so strong, but in the end she didn't have to be alone anymore, and she didn't have to be strong, she could just let herself be held and loved, and I love that for her 😭❤️
In conclusion: fiyeraba they could never make me hate you

Something that makes me so emotional about book Elphaba is the incredibly subtle ways she shows her love for Glinda, so on par with Elphaba’s character and so subtle that if you blink you miss it.
Elphaba kisses Glinda on the carriage, that’s explicit, but before that she nearly misses it because she was buying food. For Glinda. Elphaba knew very well she wasn’t going back to Shiz that day, yet she still bought Glinda food with money she definitely needed for herself just so that Glinda wouldn’t be hungry on the way home.
Then you have the way she visits Saint Glinda’s shrine, Glinda’s namesake. Elphaba is not religious whatsoever, she’s very vitriolic towards the idea of religion in the book, yet she visits a Unionist shrine of all places that just happens to have statues of her “best friend’s” namesake.
She also asks the most questions of all about Glinda when Fiyero visits her, and asks about her first to add to that. Elphaba wants to know the most about Glinda. More than her father, Nessarose, Shell, the people who are her family (said loosely). More than even Fiyero, and he’s sitting right in front of her. She couldn’t care less about Fiyero’s wife yet is thoroughly offended when she finds out Glinda “only” married a baronet.
When Fiyero asks if Elphaba is married, she says “yes, but not to a man” and breaks down in tears. In the book water does hurt Elphaba, including her tears, so it stands to reason she doesn’t cry often. But the thought of being “married” to someone that isn’t there, that she can’t be with, is enough to cause her to harm herself even if it’s inadvertently. It would make sense for it to be Glinda, for Glinda is the only person to ever have even brought her close to tears.
And finally, this one is just silly, but the way Fiyero makes a comment on how Elphaba didn’t bleed the first time they have sex and the way she just blows him off by saying “well I’m not as virginal as you think” one hundred percent means Glinda was her first time.
I also do think that Elphaba really does love Fiyero, and I do mean romantically. But in the end he’s still just a distraction, a balm for the fact that the one person Elphaba truly wants is the person she can’t have. And that person is Glinda.

A book inspired Fiyero for commissioner.
I thought exploring his like studious, intelligent, Chieftain of the Arjikis, capable side would be fun but it just makes the scarecrow part so much sadder I think😭😭😭

Book!Fiyeraba moments that make me 👌🥹😭 :
The next time he came, he thought, he must wear a shirt open at the neck, so she could see that the pattern of blue diamonds on his face continued unbroken down his chest . . . Since she seemed to like that.
She always brought his hands to her thin, expressive breasts; she would not be touched below the waist by hands. They moved together, blue diamonds on a green field.
Fiyero looked at the form of his lover, more pearly than green tonight.
He asked himself, again and again, if he was in love with Elphaba.

book!fiyero's death is like. fucking devastating man. like...having a conversation where elphaba says bystander deaths are acceptable and him disagreeing then, later, her telling him she loves him and thus his death, despite being one of those innocent bystanders, is unnacceptable. aka her realizing she's not willing to pay the price of innocent lives for the sake of the revolution. and him--the one person she wanted to protect, the person who made her realize the value of life--fucking dying anyways. maybe she's not willing to pay the price of civilian lives, but not everyone feels that way and so fiyero dies. fiyero, who challenges her rigid sense of morality, who poses the ultimate question of what she's willing to do in order to do what's right, who gives her the answer that there are some things she's not willing to do, who gives her the hope that she can love and be loved. fiyero, who gets killed because of how he's affected her, changed her, loved her. god. im like. he's present in this book for 1.5 sections and im distraught.
