So years ago now, like over a decade, my parents life thrifted an arc copy of a sci fi book in which *evil flying manta rays* were plotting *world domination*. There may have been something about alien interference to increase the manta ray intelligence. It was like a low budged sci-fi channel original in print.

Does anyone in this app know what this book was? It was returned to the thrift also about a decade ago.

hiiii!! there is book where the main character is a girl and it's set in a future where the earth is dying and she is having a crisis abt whether or not to go on the ship that will travel the stars at the speed of light (dont remember why) and while she's having this crisis in a park an elderly lady sits next to her and convinces her to go because it'll be an adventure and she goes and somehow travels for so long that she witnesses the death of the universe while never aging/aging slowly and then the universe loops back again and by the time it's the same day she left on the ship SHES THE OLD LADY IN THE PARK??? i can only remember the bench scene really because it stuck with me but it was def published in the late 1990s or early 2000s and had a pink cover this is my white whale of a book

Welcome to the Narrows! A world based mostly on its relationship with the ocean. There is no map to the narrow sea. No known voyages which give options for finding gems, but also the loss of ships and lives without the cutthroat nature. Some people who aren’t murdered or coerced can also be left on islands to dreg to survive and have the hope of one day making enough money to sell their soul to a crew for a few years. People barely survive by selling their wares or joining crews. The narrows are the scrappy poorer side of those scavenging the ocean as opposed to the unnamed sea. They are not monopolized by some of the darker figures cutthroat enough to live in luxury and hold people by strings unseen. With the narrows a wild west of trading, a council has been made to help regulate and box them in more. Except it is rare and difficult. Most must fly under the radar and fight with others. Gems are the most lucrative trades. There were once creatures known as gem sages. They were entirely human but could hear the humming of the gems without seeing them. They are rare. Sought after. And in utter danger should they have been found out. Except some of the mages have gone missing from the richer parts of the sea. Some joining crews in the narrows. Will they be found out as pirates? Cave Finders Update!

Alright- so I know I am bad at advertising and pretty much no one really cares about Cave Finders yet, but- I have already got most of the story figured out (I've worked on this since like February I think- I can't remember).

I am currently organizing what parts of the story I already know there are and working on condensing them into issues. I do seem to be missing a lot of concepts for the pilot though 😐😅, but fear not- rough drafts can be rewritten.

I am hoping to have the pilot out by this October, but realistically with all the other stuff in my life I need to focus on and other factors, November or even early next year might be more promising. Then again, I have no idea. Everything is subject to change. But there will be a release on Cave Finders! Even if no one likes it or if I end up working on other projects. Claire and Atka will have their stories told!
