I would usually consider myself Mat Cauthonās #1 defender and fan but then I remember Rand exists and I realize Iām a distant second place.
Tuon told him about how Mat literally kidnapped her and he straight up went āoh well, you probably deserved it. Iām sure he had a reason.ā
Rand looks at Mat and goes āheās just a silly little fella :)ā and ignores all his crimes. Mat could stab someone out of nowhere and Randās first question would be āMat! Are you hurt?ā And the second āwhat did that guy do to you?ā

Hi @antioch-actius I really appreciate you taking the time to reply to this post! Unfortunately, the version of The Eye of the World I listened to was the old version narrated by Michael Kramer and Kate Reading. Idk if even my beloved Rosamund Pike could have made that book drag less than it did though.
That being said, I am almost done with book 10 š¤” and I still donāt really like Rand but the other character POVs help
Me: I really like this whole Aes Sedai/Warder dynamic, I wonder if I should read the books to learn more aboutā
Wikipedia: Rand is the series protagonist
Me: NEVERMIND
#around books 3-4 Rand became my baby boy annoying beloved son but now iām just kind of tired#rj expects me to believe elayne AND aviendha AND min see something in his like please#this is basically a stallion novel in that regard#holding out hope rand can finally change in the last 4 books but heās been like a solid stone since book 4#wheel of time#i mean nynaeve has finally started to soften since she got rid of her block thank the light#so maybe thereās hope for rand too#so far the best character arc of the book has been egwene though imo

THAT SEASON FINALE!
light, where to begin, a disjointed ramble of things I observed:
Dovieāandi se tovya sagain! - Mat said the words, he said the words!
And he made his own ashandarei! I hope he gets the raven-inlaid one though because Iām sure no one wants him running around with that dagger
And I know heās going to get a massive S3 glow-up because he sees himself as MORE, now. Yay Mat!
RAND exploding the shit out of the Seanchan including Turak; nice way around his general lack of swordtraining which Iām sure will be remedied
Once the Heron, to set his path!
The interplay between Rand (and Lews Therin before him), Lanfear, Ishamael - they were besties in the Age of Legends, lmao!
I had expected the intro to be a high society polyam party they were attending, not the Sealing of Ishamael, š¤
The Warder bond was beautiful, flowing, intimate, just what I imagined when reading these books some 25 years ago
I knew Moiraine was gonna say Lan was her better!
Iām so glad theyāre back together though, legendary qpp
Nice to see the S1 intro sequence with the gorgeously woven Aes Sedai tapestry
I was a bit sad Nynaeve didnāt heal Elayne OR Rand but she DID swear to make Setaās mother curse the first kiss her father ever gave her and THAT was cool
Hopper, my beloved! š© I would be chopping Whitecloaks too!
It was so satisfying to see Perrin obey his wolfly instincts already!
Elayne being the one to heal Randās wound was an interesting choice, and you can tell he was dazzled by her!
Book lines, book lines, book lines making me have conniptions every time one was uttered
āFrom birth to death I serve the Blood.ā
UNO I KNEW YOU WERE COMING YA SHEEP-GUTTED MILK DRINKER
āFor the Light, and Shinowa!ā still gave me chills even without an expanded story behind it for Ingtar
Egwene alāVere. I hope she earns a title of āthe Unbrokenā someday. Remember, Nynaeve even said that about her when Egwene was captured by Whitecloaks in S1!
Egwene, spitting out the damane gag and refusing to rain down fire on innocents, ah my girl, thatās that Two Rivers steel
Egwene, collaring Renna and choking her to death, being stronger than Renna, being able to withstand the pain of that because thatās exactly what Renna taught her
Egwene later, with that amazing shield against Ishamael to protect her friends!
Lanfear pushing Lan and Moiraine out of the ocean Waygate was very unexpected but totally within Lanfearās lane, just to keep Moiraine away from Rand
Lanfear working to sell the Seals to Bayle Domon, which was so lmao also, and it really enhanced her utter shock when she entered the room later with the Seals all broken.
M O G H E D I E N š·ļø
She is perfectly creepy, perfect in every way. I canāt wait to see her tear shit up, or to see how she will be used in S3 and beyond
Never expected her to cage Lanfear in her webs, either, dang. Lillen Moiral wasnāt near so strong as Mierin. But we know some things are just Talents, and Moghedien is better in Telāaranārhiod than Lanfear
Did you notice Randās wound swirling with evil bits throughout the healed part? Really cool effect if you catch it
Aviendha, Bain, and Chiad showing they can fight just as well in close quarters in a city as in the Three-Fold Land; and then later acknowledging Rand as Carāaācarn
Though Iād hoped weād get some good old He Who Comes With The Dawn in here too
Moiraineās outstanding torpedo weaves that fucked up the Seanchan boats! And she understands the stakes - if the Dragon is gentled, or harmed, or captured, everyoneās life is in danger and that includes her and Lan
Anyhow fuck the Seanchan
Did it look like Suroth got blown up too? Does that mean sheās dead? I guess weāll see who gathers in the scattered remnants of the Hailene!
The first āIām not Lews Therinā from Rand
Mat taking a moment to mention Randās āshit hairā to Perrin while they were in the mix, lmao
That shadow ashandarei is really scary, it is a laser knife (lightsaber?) on a stick
I canāt wait for Perrin and Hopper to meet again in the Wolfdream
Speaking of which, I think Perrinās eyes are permanently golden now
I cried at the coming of the Heroes of the Horn, Iām sure many of you did too š
Cool Hero fighting effects, I liked those
BIRGITTE SILVERBOW MY LOVELY
I figured Minās vision of Mat ākillingā Rand would be something like this, an accident, not an intentional thing
His blood on the rocks of Shayol Ghulā¦
ALāLAN MANDRAGORAN, the Uncrowned King, Sworn to the Flame, bonded again, fighting as he was meant to, just slicing through armies, snatching arrows out of the air and stabbing people with them, chefās kiss
I wonder if Nynaeveās āfailuresā and inability to channel at these vital moments will give her the drive to break her block
Ishamaelās channeling at the end was really impressive, a testament to how much more he knows than Rand
I hope thatās not the last we see of Fares Fares, he was remarkable as Ishamael and a truly enjoyable villain
And since they didnāt have the Dragon banner of Lews Therin Telamon found with the Horn like in the books, Moiraine saw to it that he was heralded with literal fire
This I can imagine many people seeing from far away, and of course rumor travels further
The Falmen sure seem to appreciate it and of course the Seanchan are gone for now
Lanfear asking the LIGHT to protect Rand at the end is something interesting and NOT LOST ON ME
I REALLY ENJOYED IT and am looking forward to a full rewatch of S1 and S2!
Proclaimed across the sky in fire š„š²

My Mom Reacts To: wheel of time season 2 episodes 1-4 (season 1)
episode 1
"if i had to carry water all that way for a bath, i'd get a smaller bathtub" you know what? that is a very fair point. just get a smaller tub, moiraine!
mom, #1 Lan Stan: so, he doesn't have any powers, right? except cunning and strength and loyalty of course me: of course
mom: so liandrin wants nynaeve to become red because she........doesn't want her to have a warder? me doing a great aes sedai truth-telling: nynaeve is really powerful so liandrin wants to recruit her for her own team
my dad predicted moiraine was scamming bayle domon and loved it when it was revealed that she was. as always, not too much commentary from him because he remains silent and seems to not be paying attention for most of the time, only to randomly come out with a completely correct prediction or read on a scene.
"i don't think it's true that neat and tidy things can't be worthwhile š" clearly my mom subscribes more to the Egwene School Of Thought than to the Alanna School Of Thought
lan to moiraine after she is Mean to him: make dinner yourself mom: GOOD FOR YOU
when lan brings her the plate later and puts it on top of the maps: "what if he gets greasy food all over her maps?"
"ugh i hate dark scenes where i can't see anything" [scary fade appears] "okay maybe it's good that i can't see"
episode 2
my mom got all confused about rand's dream of him killing his friends and wondered at first if it was real, please pray for her when tel'aran'rhiod is introduced later
"HE'S BALD??????" all of us when we first saw s2 rand's new look djkfgjh
"they must like him here if he gets free food" my boy, beloved wherever he goes :')
she wasn't particularly fond of mat last season, but he's gotten quite a few laughs so far this season! (notably the moment when we ALL fell in love with New Mat, when he was miming liandrin locking the door)
she gave an annoyed TUH! at elayne dissing egwene's room, but didn't comment further, possibly because i'd just told her 20 seconds earlier that elayne was my favorite character and she didn't want to offend me jdkfgh
she was like "wait, is she blue or green???" during a scene where alanna was wearing a slightly-darker-than-normal green outfit, so i think it was definitely a good call by the show to dress aes sedai in their ajah colors always. hard to keep track otherwise!
after moiraine had her hand on her knife when verin revealed she knew about the dragon: "what was she gonna do?? just stab her right in front of all the others??? that's ridiculous!" djkfjg points were made! poor moiraine just kinda panicked and lost all her braincells for a moment there.
my mom was a randgwene shipper last season so i thought she was gonna be pissed about rand hooking up with a strange new woman whilst egwene mourns his death, but she has not said a single word about that situation yet! i did once catch her reading lanfear's wiki article which she'd gotten onto after reading lan's because "i just want to know what happens to him and i'm not going to read all those books" so maybe she retained some info from lanfear's article that made her suspect something fishy with selene?
she recognized min from s1 right away and hastened to add her to her handwritten character list, when other characters needed a couple scenes to get that honor, and i remember she laughed a lot at min's lines last season and she did again today. guys, if my mom becomes a min stan, i may never recover lmao (i'm mostly kidding, show!min has done nothing wrong and is cool. MOSTLY kidding.)
re: the list, i told her she wasn't allowed to google and print out a list of characters because she would see spoilers, only to accidentally spoil her myself last season by instinctively writing liandrin's name down in the "bad guys" column and making her ask "wait, so she's ACTUALLY a villain, not just mean??", rip (but i played it off as "oh she's just unfriendly to moiraine so that's why i put her there" so we shall see whether or not she ends up being surprised by the black ajah reveal)
when min was saying how she sees glimpses of the pattern, my mom made a connection to perrin seeing the past earlier, which i thought was very interesting! (since we hadn't yet learned that what he saw was actually a sending from the wolves.) min's viewings and wolfbrothers are the two major magical powers that have nothing to do with the one power, and it always minorly bugged me that they don't Fit In to the rest of the magic system (despite my apparently-hypocritical mocking of people who get hung up on lore rules etc haha), so i just thought it was neat to think of them in conjunction with each other.
mom, shocked and dismayed: MAT'S GOING TO KILL RAND???????? me: [vibrating with glee over The Great Cauthor Stabbening]
when nynaeve is taken to the arches: "so is she getting a promotion?"
there was some line during the moiraine-lan divorce that got a big offended gasp from our #1 Lan Stan, but i forget which one it was (it wasn't "we were never equals" it was an earlier one)
my dad just laughed when they first showed suroth and her redonkulus getup jkjfg the correct reaction to the pomp and ceremony of seanchan high blood
episode 3
when the aes sedai were saying nynaeve was ready to take the test my mom was like "NO SHE ISN'T!!!!" and was pressed about them rushing her into it
during the bandit attack in the test: "boy, i wouldn't want to live in this world!"
when nynaeve left the tower my mom was like "is this what happens in the books?!" and i couldn't reveal yet that it was still part of the test so i just instinctively said "you'll see" which is my response to everything, and she was like "no i won't, i'm not reading all these books" lmao
my dad during the version of mashiara playing during the lanaeve reunion: why is "somewhere over the rainbow" playing
sheriam: she wasn't ready mom: THAT'S WHAT I SAID!!!!!!!!!!!
she was genuinely very upset for a moment because she thought nynaeve was dead, but i think she then guessed pretty quickly that It Ain't Over Yet
scene transition from nynaeve being left in the arches over to the seanchan: "we're going from bad to worse!"
i was dithering over uno's impending death because i didn't want to spoil them but i thought my mom might want a trigger warning, and thankfully my dad went "that horn looks like it's in a dangerous spot" when they first made uno kneel, so i was all clear to say "yeah this is about to get gory" lmao
my dad wondered if suroth was the dark one which fascinated me! i think everyday negroes had the same thought, iirc. i guess it IS the logical conclusion when you know that ishy is the dark one's right-hand man and in this scene we see him being suroth's right-hand man!
my mom thought elayne might be evil or a spy! how could she! i guess she isn't accustomed to wheel of time strangers just being friendly without an ulterior motive djkfg i didn't outright say her theory was wrong because i'm not about to be a booksplainer, but i'm sure i was so visibly baffled at the idea of elayne being evil that i shot down the theory nonetheless haha
when liandrin goes to visit mat again: "how does she have time for all this? she has her sick son, she has mat, and she has whatever else she does at the tower"
when liandrin blames mat for nynaeve's death: "this lady is CRAZY!!"
mat's "is that an 'i'm here to murder you' stare or a 'light i never realized how handsome you are' stare" line was a big hit! love to see my boy getting some appreciation in this house
...............which he promptly squandered when he a) initially left his cell without freeing min too, and b) did not go comfort egwene. but i pointed out that liandrin's been psychologically tormenting him for months into thinking his friends are better off without him, because i couldn't bear to see them judge my boy!
"it's like we're in 18th century france!" was the first thing out of my mom's mouth when they went to the cairhienin party, i'm sure the costume designers would be thrilled!
mom: how did this lady from the poor district get them into a fancy party? and how could she afford these clothes? š¤Ø me: š¤·š
when logain pours out the wine: "AFTER ALL RAND'S HARD WORK TO GET IT!!"
why did my dad laugh when the inn was on fire jdkfg maybe he just likes to see rand have a bad time
mom: jeez, maybe rand shouldn't stay in other people's houses anymore me: i'm sure rand's thinking the same thing
mom at the end of the test: it's so sad that they keep getting glimpses of the nice lives they could've had š
episode 4
mom 2 seconds before the camera reveals who the visitor is: is her little sister moiraine? [camera shows moiraine] mom: I GUESSED SOMETHING FOR ONCE
"it's pretty rude to show up to someone's house and then say 'i don't have time to hang out with you'!"
selene: the fire wasn't your fault rand mom: well it kinda was actually
there was some moment where my dad referred to "sneezing and burning down an inn, or whatever he did" and it killed me, i wish i could remember the context bc it was even funnier in context
"i speak with the amyrlin every time i open my mouth" was also a hit! as was perrin asking if he would turn into a wolf and elyas saying "don't be stupid"
mom when moiraine waltzes into the foregate dressed to the nines: i thought she wanted to keep a low profile
just earlier that day we'd been bemoaning the lack of pockets in women's clothing, as one does, so my mom was like "[delighted] now THAT'S a pocket!" when moiraine fit a whole-ass knife into the pocket of her fancy dress. WOT costumers understand the importance of giving girls pockets! lanfear's outfits have a lot too
my dad said "she seems like a bad guy" about selene during the mountaintop scene, he been knew! but he ended up falling asleep and missing the reveal that he was right
meanwhile, mom: "i'm just waiting for a monster to crawl up that cliff and get them"
when alanna & co go through lan's bags to get the poem: "aww, i thought they were his friends! š"
mom: too bad moiraine won't just ask her sister about rand, she talked to him at the party! anvaere: so if you want to know where that redheaded boy is, you'll have to ask me very nicely over tea mom: [just as smug as anvaere]
when ishy shows up at min's room: "how is he EVERYWHERE????"
she didn't seem TOO surprised when liandrin attacked the girls, and she clocked that liandrin was working for ishy after this scene with min (or rather, she asked me if that was the case and i said "you'll see")
she let out the fondest chuckle when rand was like "[choking back tears] i'm going to leave now, thank you" he is BABY YOUR HONOR!!!
as the Lanfear Reveal started my mom said "i just knew she was evil" so that must be why she was so silent on the relationship and so un-judgmental of rand, she must've clocked selene's Bad Vibes from the start! or else she retained something from reading lanfear's wiki article a while back lmao
even so, she went "OH MY GOSH!!!!" and clapped her hands over her mouth in shock when moiraine slit lanfear's throat, which i think is one of her biggest reactions to anything in either season so far! the initial stabbing, zero reaction, but the followup throat-slitting, freakout.
the "i'm a monster too" line + Undead Lanfear Moment has her CONVINCED that forsaken are some kind of creatures or zombies, i'm trying to explain they're just humans who are really powerful and evil haha
at the final shot of lanfear: "i'm going to have nightmares! i'll have to go read my murder mystery to calm down before bed." duality of woman
#wot#wot on prime#the wheel of time#wot show spoilers#i forgot how comparatively slow-paced and calm the first half of the season feels#so i can't WAIT to see the reactions to the second half when shit's hitting the fan 24/7

top 9 books š
tagged by @eddiebabygirldiaz (who I constantly pest to write a book and will add to this list if they ever do š) @thewolvesof1998 @cowboy-buddie @your-catfish-friend @spotsandsocks Thank you loves š
I can say right now that these are in the moment picks. Books are far too special to narrow down to just 9.
Anthem by Ayn Rand
A short read about a society where people have careers and partners chosen for them. Everyone is addressed in collective terms and the word I is never used. It's been a long ass time, but I legit cried the first time I read it.
1984 by George Orwell
Another one that has fascinated me since the first time I read it, way back in the dark ages of high school. Dystopian society where Big Brother is always watching. The main character is lured into going against the grain only to ultimately be punished. That's a terrible excuse for a summary but here we are.
The Santaland Diaries by David Sedaris
Some satire and humor as the author details his time working as an elf during the Christmas season. If you don't wheeze and piss yourself laughing I really don't know what to tell you.
Psycho by Onley James
Book 2 of a MM series about 7 psychopath brothers. I love the series but August is my favorite.
Moth by Lily Mayne
Book 5 of a human/monster romance series. Moth is my very special baby. Look at him wrong and I'll maim you.
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
jfc how do I even summarize this? IDEK... battles, romance, platonic love, soulmates. Just go read it and have yourself a good cry.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Dear gods what a fucking fabulous book. Chronicles the life of the (fictional) mysterious hollywood actress, Evelyn Hugo, with an absolutely insane twist at the end.
The Christmas Box Collection by Richard Paul Evans
Technically a trilogy but I can't separate them. This begins by telling the story of a young family who move in with an elderly widow. It then moves on to the details of who the widow was before, starting at the very beginning with how she met her husband, and the reason for the large marble angel statue on the property.
Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson
One of my favorites from my youth. All about friendship and imagination and what happens when that gets ripped away. Again, a shit summary, but it's a fantastic read. I have absolutely considered an au about this one.
Bonus: When the Summer's Over by Anna Pollock
A m/f romance that's cute AF, written by one of my besties @walnuts-and-berries, with cover art by my beloved wife @lizzie-bennetdarcy. Minnesota farm gal meets city boy and is instantly disgusted. gasp can they overcome their differences and make it work?
no pressure tagging @stereopticons @blackandwhiteandrose @buddierights @apothecarose @spotsandsocks @shortsighted-owl @mysteriouslyyounggalaxy @jesuisici33 @lizzie-bennetdarcy and anyone else I normally tag (or don't) who wants to play š„°

backreading the high school lit discussion on your blog. THE SOUND AND THE FURY LOVERS RISE UP!!! ā¤ļø a book of all time for me. and i agree that Gatsby is overrated and mostly beloved bc it was easy to understand and 'fun' (i.e., how many people had "Gatsby parties" or even watched the baz luhrmann movie in class lol). it's like the popcorn and candy of high school lit. however my most hated assigned book was Anthem by Ayn Rand š i still can't believe my school made that required reading for freshmen. I've never encountered anyone from another school who had that experience. some organization donated the books. i guess it did instill in me a strong hatred of Rand and everything she stood for from a young age though. dogshit philosophy AND dogshit writing
*sees someone agreeing w me* that was some real shit you just said
omg not the (presumably libertarian) org donating the books...i feel like a lot of schools just have some really inexplicable assigned book choice. for us it wasn't any of the english books but when we did a unit in history on the russian revolution we had to read richard pipes and my teacher said it was because parents complained about there not being a "conservative perspective" offered lmfao

Wheel of Time S2 Episode 5 - āDamaneā is an achievement in adaptation that should be recognized
Iām not an active reviewer of this show or any other. Itās not something I am very interested in. However I think itās important to note when a piece of art begins to transform into something greater than the sum of its parts, especially with an adaptation of this magnitude which has so many things to juggle it can make your head spin.
This series has been a part of my life for over 25 years. Itās as difficult for me to remove my bias as it is for anyone, especially when beloved moments from the series are changed. Any fantasy fan who has spent time around the genre has experienced this. However I feel that the fandom really needs to recognize what is happening currently on Amazon Primeās Wheel of Time.
Robert Jordanās Wheel of time is possibly the most ambitious fantasy series ever created. A magic system with as much depth as you will find in fantasy, hundreds of named characters, 14 large books, a prequel novella, a couple encyclopedic volumes, and now a major streaming series on Amazon Prime.
Up until this point half-way through the second season the show has been admirable in some of its attempts at adapting Jordanās beloved series but I donāt think any fan (of either the show or the books) could really say it is has been a total success in terms of quality. S2 E5 on the other hand is simultaneously a great adaptation of the series and a great episode of television that could be the turning point from a capable fantasy show to an excellent one. Before we get into that letās revisit where weāve been.
Season 1
S1 had 2 really good episodes, a couple outright bad ones (finale), but mostly could be described as average storytelling hidden by some great performances by Rosamund Pike and Daniel Henney and set in a beautiful and interesting universe. For all intents and purposes it was a success in terms of attracting viewers, introducing new audiences to RJās series and being a decent show.
There have been some great casting choices and the majority of the cast has worked with a couple exceptions (recasting of Mat). The characters are firmly recognizable from Jordanās work with of course some big changes as well that vary in terms of popularity with the fandom. However, the challenge of making the wheel of time universe really sing (ie the fantasy/lore concepts) was hit or miss for me in S1 (in many ways a miss). Iām not speaking of book accuracy, simply how interesting and cool they were.
Emonds Field 5 - not perfect but definitely a success
Myrddraal and Trollocs - success
Channeling - 50/50
White Tower - success
Thom/gleeman - failure
Taāveren - TBD
Loial/Ogier - meh (admittedly high degree of difficulty)
Eye of the World - failure and was not interesting at all
Aes Sedai and Warders - biggest achievement of S1, huge success
Fal Dara - meh
Traveling people - meh
The ways - decent
Two Rivers - 50/50
Logain/male channelers - success
Darkfriends - success
Whitecloaks - decent
Shadar Logoth - decent
Overall an admirable effort, especially considering how much they adapted but IMO they had some big misses that brought down the season.
Season 2
So far the second season has seen a huge jump over the first season in terms of production quality, visual style, performances, and dialogue. Many of the actors on the show have found their footing, particularly Josha Stradowski who plays Rand. Every new major character they have introduced has not only been written well but their performances have been off the charts which I will touch on more when I discuss E5.
However the first 4 episodes were much like the first season. The pacing was hit or miss, some of the changes have landed (Nynaeve in the arches) and a few have not (namely Lanās arc). Mat is still MIA but we will see how they land things with him later. Either way season 1 caliber storytelling combined with the other upgrades in acting, visual style, and overall polish makes for a pretty damn good product.
Episode 5 - āDamaneā (full spoilers)
Itās difficult for me to fully explain why E5 was so satisfying. It is less about any one individual factor and more about how smoothly it weaved (no pun intended) many well executed components together.
The first thing I will start with is visual style. S2 has been an upgrade in general from S1 in many of its choices but Episode 5 is on a different level.
The initial location (near falme) Liandrin takes the girls is absolutely stunning. I took my own little photo above to demonstrate just how sumptuous this looked in 4K in my living room. The show has always been pretty but I will admit the variety of locales in S2 as well as the cinematography has been a significant upgrade. What I especially liked about this scene is that it did not lean on a slick establishing shot of a CG city or even a giant fortress/village made specifically for the show, two things WoT is very good at. Instead this is a simple scene in terms of CG. Itās just a waygate and the effects used for channeling all look great and are not too over the top. As far as set design itās just the stone pillars for the waygate and the large throne that Suroth rides around on (and Seanchan costumes). Otherwise itās a beautiful natural location that grounds the action and fantasy elements organically while pulling in the viewer to this world.
But thatās just a taste.
Story locations in this episode: Falme, Cairhien, Toman Head, The White Tower, Telāaranrhiod, The Ways. And thatās not counting different areas within those places.
Each of the above have a strong visual language to communicate the various cultures and landscapes of Jordanās universe and I donāt think it skips a single beat going back and forth between them. Forests, deserts, marshland, night scenes, day scenes, cities, villages, fortresses, and fantasy creations like the ways and the dream world. The show was in its bag in terms of something interesting to draw the eye the entire episode.
The performances were no different in terms of their variety and quality. Fares Fares (Ishamael) and Natasha OāKeefe (Lanfear) were probably the best on screen fantasy villains Iāve seen since vintage Game of Thrones seasons. They were engaging, scary, and villainous in a relatable but unapologetic manner, delivering line after line that could easily be viewed as cheesy if not for perfect execution in direction and tone. And frankly what I liked most is that the show didnāt fall in to the modern temptation to make them less evil. Sure they have their justifications/motivations but they are also unambiguous baddies from the viewerās perspective which is true to Jordan.
Moving on to Rosamund Pike who weāre really running out of things to say in terms of her acting which has never dipped for a second for the entirety of the show. What was more impressive is how the showās writers have demonstrated their commitment to showing a ruthlessly efficient character who will do whatever it takes to save the world. This episode highlighted her commitment to her cause as well as her intelligence in dealing with a character who is immensely powerful.
Ayoola Smart as Aviendha provided the best action sequence and an excellent dialogue scene with Perrin that efficiently introduced jiāeātoh and Aiel culture. I am really looking forward to seeing more from her as Aviendha is one of my favorite characters. On a similar note Meera Syal really got to flex her abilities as Verin in a much more recognizable manner to book readers than what we saw earlier in the show. It was thrilling to watch her pick apart Liandrinās plot.
The last thing that I was really impressed by and primarily why I wrote this post to begin with is how committed the show seems to be to genuinely introducing some of the most difficult elements of the Wheel of Time universe which is honestly not what I expected given the first 4 episodes. Letās take some inventory of what we got from E5 as well as S2 so far straight from the books/universe.
Aviendha/Aiel/jiāeātoh - success
Falme - as a location itās a success
Seanchan - success (with a very high degree of difficulty)
Collaring - success
Lanfear/Selene - huge success
Ishamael - huge success
Novice training /arches - success
Cairhien - success
Horn - TBD
Elyas - success
Wolfbrother abilities - controversial but a success IMO
Telāaranrhiod - success
Verin/Browns - success
Channeling - success
Matās abilities - TBD but this might be a big L
Minās Visions - TBD but so far an L for me
Elayne - success
Do I think this show is going to be this good every episode from now on? Probably not. And yes there is still plenty to dislike from S2. Mat/Min are borderline non existent so far, the Lan/Moiraine arc was miserable until they separated, and Siuan hasnāt even shown up yet (despite having some badass scenes in the second book that are very memorable).
However I will say this is the first time where Iāve felt real confidence in where the story is headed both short and long term. If they do this for the remaining three episodes then Wheel of Time will hold the belt for best fantasy show currently running.

13 15 and 22 for those identity asks āØļøš«¶
13.inside or outdoors?
Ideally outdoors, but I live in Texas so inside is much more likely.
15.five most influential books over your lifetime.
Oh Kate. This is quite a question. I can't possibly rank them, but I'll try to pare the list down.
The Silmarillion. I know it's almost impossible to read. Trust me I know. BUT I read it about three times as a teenager and it truly was one of my first introductions to hyperfixation and should have clued the adults in my life in to the fact that I am not neurotypical.
Julie of the Wolves. For a weird reason - I read it in first grade and my teacher thought it was "too advanced" for me. Charged my "do things out of spite"/"prove the fuckers wrong" at an early age.
The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. I had no idea you could write like that. Adams uses the English language in such an *interesting* way. A line that forever changed me was "The ships hung in the sky in much the same way that bricks don't."
Controversial. But. Atlas Shrugged. I am well aware that Ayn Rand was shitty. And is beloved by libertarians. But I was in a weird place when I read it (at 16. As a gifted neurodivergent kid in a failed coal town turned failed steel town.) The "work hard for yourself because no one else will" part stuck with me. The "therefore be a dick to everyone and fuck them over" part did not. I also learned from this book that it's ok to skip things. Like 50 pages of one character's rant! And 80% of the message from the author!
Venomous by Christie Wilcox. A truly fantastic pop-science book written by someone who actually does the research! I have a very hard time with a lot of non-fiction; I get frustrated with lay-people as authors because they often miss parts of the processes they are describing, or conflate things that aren't quite the same. But on the other hand, I don't always want to read a pure textbook on a topic (though I have and undoubtedly will again). Wilcox does a really good job bridging the science and having a pleasant writing voice. I tried to write like her for a lot of my public communications.
22.list the top five things you spend the most time doing, in order.
Y'all seem invested in my daily grind lol. Answered previously for shatters

So Iāve mentioned in the past my love of Min and I wanted to more properly articulate why I think a lot of the criticisms of her are kinda- bad. So I see the idea that Min is somehow Less of her own character because her primary focus for a lot of the series is in helping Rand, that her relationship with Rand is unhealthy because of her attention towards him. So I wanted to explain why thatās not really a valid argument.
So as far as these characters know, Rand is going to die at tarmengedon. To Min, Rand has two years left to live, sheās in love with him, and currently the most important thing is stopping the end of the world which also happens to coincide with Randās mental health.
Letās put it this way, if a doctor told you that your partner had a terminal illness and had two years to live, would you not drop everything, set aside your personal goals and desires, to focus on loving and caring for your partner for those remaining two years. Cause I would.
Some times, itās okay to have your romantic relationship be a priority. Sometimes thereāll be times where you have to put aside your personal goals to care for another person. Sometimes what you want in life, isnāt going to be the most important thing to you. And thatās okay. Youāre allowed to prioritize others for periods of time. We see that Minās life doesnāt end once Rand isnāt around, she has a life and goals and desires outside of him. Thereās things she wants to pursue, changes to the world she wants to make, but for that period of time, her wants didnāt need to be the number one priority. Rand needed her support, the world needed someone to keep the dragon reborn grounded and human. Itās the same type of theme that all the characters emphasize, the idea that sometimes what you want isnāt as important as the greater needs of the world. After Tarmengedon we see her moving on to her next priority, which is guiding Tuon to be a good ruler. Rand was her priority for a small portion of her life, a blip in time where the needs of the world and her desires aligned. Rand was not her everything, and losing him did not destroy her, Rand was simply someone she loved and she wanted to love him to the fullest while she still had the chance.

Wheelie Time thoughts
Spoilers for S2 episodes 1-3, including the preview for next episode, and spoilers for all the books.
Queen of Cairhien you said. So at first, I thought that Moiraine's sister was going to be the Queen, but when she spoke to Rand my head turned again because she seemed disgusted with the Queen and how she is just out to get her city back and thought that it must be another person. That said, her being all depressed about what i means to be a queen is coherent with Damodred Drama, so... yeah I think she's probably the queen and was talking to Rand in the third person. Especially funny because Lanfear was clearly about to say something about her, but never got to it.
Speaking of Lanfear... Beloved, i love her so much. She's so messy. My best worstie, love how much fun she was having. And she has a power-dynamic kink...... yeah, that doesn't surprise me, lmao.
Rand is baby in this whole thing and so kind to the Aiel War veteran. I love that scene of them walking, especially because I think that the Sword Forms he described are going to be the way that Rand defeats Turuk.
Lan and Moiraine broke my heart, especially that last scene in episode 2 where the Myrelle/Alanna merger was basically confirmed. Can't wait from them to take it all back and be besties again.
In the last of Nyn's accepted test - which was fucking brutal, this woman now has years of memories with a child that isn't real anymore, fuck - Mat loses an eye at the end. I love this show and this foreshadowing so much.
Verin is perfect exactly as she is. She said that she and Adealas are sisters, but like Sisters of the White Tower or Sisters-Sisters? Who knows. Interesting implications if its the later.
Alanna and her warders are killing me. That Maksim "I am a third wheel" is making me feel things, knowing that he is probably the one who is going to die.
Perrin is already Going Through It and Ishamael going "The more wolf you become, the more you are mine" is a great way to kickstart his "I don't want to be a wolf brother arc." --- Please let it end fast tho.
Elayne is perfect and I have no notes.
Egg is also perfect.
Interesting Liandrin backstory. Part of me wonders if it isn't all made up to get Nyn's sympathy, but maybe I am just building plots out of nothing. That said, great way to show that the way Aes Sedai live longer.
Next week we have the Lanfear episode with a focus on Moiraine. Do I need to tell you how that combo is making me go insane?
#wheel of time#wheel of time spoilers#besties the way this is shaking out is outstanding#i love this show so much

On to WoT episode two!
Okay, the music in the very first seconds of the credits sounds way too much like Motherland: Fort Salem. If the titles weren't made by the same company I'll eat my hat.
Practical effects my beloved.
Moiraine is stone cold. Love that for her.
Moiraine has all of the best lines. "You don't listen to the wind. It's the wind that listens to you." Perfect. Amazing. No notes.
Mat being the one to keep them all together when Rand wants everyone to fuck off is so interesting. We get such an interesting look at Mat as a character and person over these first few episodes.
That split second when Valda is questioning her and Moiraine wishes she could lie. And then she goes for the total truth. So well played.
Nothing will ever beat the gang singing Weep for Manetheren. It makes me crazy what a good adaptation it is.
Okay, I finally get the random wolf-licking-Perrin's-leg scene. It was definitely curing the trolloc poison in his wound. 10 bucks that was Hopper.
There's such an eerie, well-preserved quality to Shadar Logoth. We've seen other old, rundown buildings throughout the whole episode, but Shadar Logoth seems like the people only just left, even though it's as old as Manetheren.
Mat, sweetheart, don't follow weird shadows down dark alleys. It never ends well.
I really appreciate how the show makes the EF5 seem like actual friends. I love the books, but RJ didn't just have a difficult time portraying romantic relationships.
No one makes an entrance like Nynaeve al'Meara.

Crazy how in love Rand is with Mat and they didnt even put Mat in the polycule
mat spends half of the entire series on roadtrips with or for the purpose of aiding/rescuing rand, elayne, aviendha, or some combination thereof, and by the end of ACOS he is dating both rand and elayne and has exchanged "protect our beloveds on my behalf when i'm not around" promises with aviendha, and rj has the audacity to tell me that MIN is the fourth member of this polycule. ain't no way!!!
i remember going into the books already ready to be pro-mat-in-the-polycule-no-matter-how-much-i-have-to-force-it because i already shipped cauthor from the show, but then i gradually reached elayne and aviendha's arrivals and mat's interactions with them etc and went "holy fuck mat in the polycule is actually INCREDIBLY well-supported by the text" like you really don't have to do any mental gymnastics at all to get him in there, he slots in so perfectly and he's narratively tied up with ALL of the other members, not just rand. and i will never stop chewing rocks over how easy it would've been to make it happen!!
#meanwhile you have to do So Many mental gymnastics to get min in there#sexysideoftheforce#answered#wot book spoilers

Ah yes reading the first chapter of wot 4 and I have to remember all the characters in the white tower, the sections where in previous books I missed everyone's names and confused characters. The truth is I just want to read to my beloved Perrin and Mat
And I guess Rand, yeah he is there :b
Will he still be a crybaby, tremendously insecure or a crazy person in this book? We will find out!
