“Since when have you been in pain? Why didn’t you say this medicine wasn’t working for you?!”

"Why?"

That one word sent a shock through Danny's system, like he was back in the portal being electrocuted all over again. Still, he knew what was at stake, so even though that look on Tim's face made him want to fall to his knees and explain everything, he knew he couldn't.

Instead, he raised his gun as the portals filling the sky multipled and merged together as the ghost zone tried to absorb their reality. Channeling his inner Dan, he gave Tim a mocking smirk, What? You didn't think all that was real, did you?"

"You...you're lying!"

Danny tilted his head at an angle he knew would look as smug and condescending as possible, and judging by the burst of rage he felt coming from Nightwing a few rooftops over, it worked. "Tim, you know better." He said in Bruce's voice, It was the exact thing Bruce had told them when they were starting thier relationship.

Everyone had disapproved when he had brought his new boyfriend home a few months after meeting at the skatepark. Bruce hated Danny from the get-go, more suspicious of him than he had been with any of the batkids' previous partners.

Danny opened his mouth to mock him more but was quickly cut off by a punch to the face, not by Nightwing, or by Robin, who was still racing towards him at seemingly Mach speeds. Nope. It was Hood, who looked madder than Danny had ever seen him, surprising both Tim and Danny alike.

"You did all of this just to steal our souls and trap us in some weird afterlife dimension as your slaves?!"

Danny had no idea where the slaves thing came from, but it sounds villainous, so Danny's gonna go with it, "Of course!"

you know what trope drives me absolutely feral? Repetition. Just :

"Hey, hey, it's okay"

"Shh, you're safe, you're safe, it's alright "

"Look at me. Hey, look at me"

"Stay with me. Come on, just stay with me"

"It's over. It's over now."

"I'm here. I'm right here"

Whumpee crying into caretaker’s shoulder, completely overwhelmed by emotion and anxiety. Eventually they fall asleep after tiring themselves out. 

Bonus points for caretaker being in an uncomfortable position and being forced to stay still so as to not wake whumpee up.

so we love the whole "i didn't know where else to go" trope for characters who don't like each other. addition:

while getting healed by caretaker, whumpee seeks affection, reassurance, some form of comfort from them that isn't just medical care. maybe they don't have anyone else they could go to, maybe they're just in too much pain to care who it's coming from, but either way they put aside their normal rivalry with caretaker so they can be cared for the way they need.

P03 acting like he hates your hugs and affection because it's "stupid beast things", but you always say that if he needs a hug he can come to you.

You think it's a useless sentiment, considering how much P03 acts like he definitely doesn't want to be there when you hug him, but one night, he comes to your room and taps on your shoulder at like, 2 am. Looks at you with the sad eyes, does the "uppy" motion toddler's do with their hands where they like, open and close them while their raised up to say they want to be picked up, and asks if he can stay with you because he had a nightmare.

He will never speak of it again, but you know how much of a cuddle bug he is. As much as he "hates" you, he sure does like to be held.

“What are you doing?”

Jason stopped digging and squinted up at Tim like an annoyed grandmother. If only he had a little flowery apron on too then he'd look like Mrs. Mac. “Knitting.”

“Cute.” Tim crossed his arms, watching as Jason finished uprooting a dead plant, depositing it in a pile of similarly withered plants and torn up weeds. A tray of flowers sat beside it, along with a bag of bulbs. “You know B could just hire someone to do this. Unless you’re trying to get on his good side cause you did something.”

“Scared of getting a little dirt under your manicured nails, trust fund baby?”

Ugh. A challenge. If Tim didn’t rise to it, he’d never hear the end of it. “Would’ve thought you’d had your fill of digging.” he grumbled, rolling up his sleeves as Jason smirked. They worked in silence as they weeded the flowerbed, making sure they pulled the deep tap roots out intact. It wasn’t terrible work plus the weather was pleasantly cool, with just the right amount of sunshine. Jason seemed like he was in a nice mood too, even if he was a little on the quiet side.

It reminded Tim of when he used to follow Alfred around as he watered, ranting about his frustrations with Bruce or Young Justice as the older man nodded along and offered advice or commiserated when necessary. This flower bed had been Alfred’s favorite actually, sitting right below the family room windows where they could easily see the bright blooms every day. One particularly bad hailstorm, Alfred stood at the window worrying the whole time, watching to make sure that the frames and tarps they put over the delicate plants didn’t blow away even though Bruce assured him-

Tim froze. Oh he really was clueless sometimes.
