the first part of changing yourself for the better is finding out the parts of yourself that you wish to improve on, and accepting them (and yourself) as they are. you can never be perfect, and that's okay. i've heard these sentences hundreds of times from different self-help sources, but you only realise that it's true when you actually feel it. you cannot hate yourself into being a better person. this ties into the conversations i've had about diets, and my personal belief that if you simply launch yourself into a hard diet (no scope for error, guilt when you can't adhere to the rules), a rebound is inevitable. love yourself, and change to a you that you wish to be (without hating the now). there's no better way. there's none healthier.

i've changed enormously over the past three years, and i don't believe i would recognise me of before too strongly, and i couldn't have done it alone. as i thanked kriti for the part she's played in this, she just told me: “it's just friendship”, and i'm always reminded of the massive debt we would owe our friends if they weren't all strictly non-transactional. i wouldn't have changed this much without my friends, and i would definitely not be the me i am. i hate all my friends that will call me out in an instant if i say something wrong, and yet i would be nowhere about them. there's no space for my ego there.

i can tally up my progress over the past three years, and almost none of it is academic. true, i did learn one very big thing: how to love what i learn, but the seeds for that already lived in me, germinating whenever i had the fortune of a good subject or a good teacher. i have learned much, much more about everything outside the classroom, challenging my understandings and beliefs. at the end of the day, a holistic me is who will be there to deal with the world. i hope i've done well with him. i hope he never stops learning how to live.

you haven’t really been looking at him- other than predicting where he was going to put his hands, he’s unmoving now, accepting defeat. it gives you a second to look at him, his face.

he’s staring at you, your faces are alot closer than you thought. your nose is inches from his, you can feel his breath on your face, you can feel his chest rise and fall.

your staring at each other now- and he has this look in his eye, you’ve seen it before, for split seconds. it’s admiration- but there’s something more. he looks almost dazed.

you want to move- but you can’t. there’s nothing holding you down but the idea of ruining this moment- so delicate, soft. it breaks your heart.

you can’t indulge, you’ve never let yourself before. you see him, of course you do. you’ve always saw him.

you see him fly, you see him laugh, and cry- your the only one who ever sees him.

it hurts that he’ll never see you too.

it’s better to push him away, don’t let yourself indulge.

in one quick movement your separated from him, you miss the look of panic in his eyes as he jumps up after you.

walking away, going to grab your water or a rag to dry the sweat, just anything to have a little space from him.

After I finished reading the books and the bonus chapter I thought there was a 50% chance that the next book could be about elriel and 50% it could be about gwynriel, especially when I saw how popular gwynriel was. I didn’t pick up on any of the lightsinger hints. I feel like most people don’t pick up on them the first time they read the books. Without the lightsinger theory, the bonus chapter seems to introduce gwyn as a possible love interest for az.

With everything we learn in hofas and what Sarah said in the today interview, I think she’s more likely to write elriel. But that doesn’t mean that elucien or gwynriel can’t happen, after all she said she writes based on vibes and she’s prone to change love interests.

But that would be ignoring the rest of the books outside the singular, 5page bonus chapter 🤷🏻‍♀️

Though you're right, truly, SJM can take it any which way she wants. You see it as 50/50 chance between Elriel and Gwynriel, I see it as 99/1, SJM herself could be 75/25 who knows! She could do 0/0 and make Azriel end up with Eris too!

And yet - when you read that last sentence - where I claimed SJM could write Azris endgame just as likely as she could write Gwynriel or Elriel - I'm sure a part of you disagreed, didn't it?

"There's no way Azris is as likely as Gwynriel!"

You're right. It's not. You know that. I know that. And you know why we both believe it's unlikely that SJM will throw away both Elriel and Gwynriel in favor of Azris?

It's because SJM doesn't just "switch love interests" without buildup.

We all knows she can do whatever she wants - she's the author. But I think it's kind of an inaccurate statement to say "she's prone to switching love interests", point blank. She NEVER has done that without proper buildup.

SJM has two ways she "changes" a love interest:

1. A main character has a minor relationship that is summarized in a passing sentence or paragraph long thought about their ex/current lover. They might not have even been in an actual relationship just had romantic feelings at one point. Either way, it's never a focus of the story.

Ex: Hunt & Shahar, Feyre & Isaac Hale, Elain & Greyson, Mor & Azriel (and cassian ig), Bryce & Connor, Hypaxia & Ruhn

2. A main character has a full blown relationship with another main character and they fully explore all stages of falling in love, lust, breaking up, and then moving on to another character.

Ex: Tamlin/Feyre/Rhys; Dorian/Aelin/Chaol/Rowan

She does it both ways. Here's the difference though:

The first method is minor stakes. It's typically just the beginning of a relationship, or a retrospective point of view. There is very rarely any physical intimacy. It is also typically only the female's point of view.

In my opinion, it shouldn't really even count as a love interest switch up. It is so small in the scale of things and it never pans out or is given any importance in the main story. It fizzles out after the first 10 pages (not literally guys chill), basically.

Then we get to the second method of her "love interest switch". She doesnt do this one often, and it takes MULTIPLE books to cover. It is about a MAIN FEMALE character. The Feyre & Aelins, if you will.

Both of those situations were not something that was just sprung on us without adequate build up.

Feyre fell in love with Tamlin. Met Rhys. Slowly fell OUT of love with Tamlin. Then fell in love with Rhys. It took her 3 books.

They did not have a romance in ACOTAR while she was still falling for Tamlin. That would've been like if she went to Calanmai, saw Rhys, and then decided she didn't want Tamlin and only wanted Rhys from then.

Aelin & Dorian and Aelin & Chaol were two relationships that were FULLY fleshed out. She did not abruptly leave Chaol and immediately fall for Rowan. These aren't instances where anything happened abruptly in a bonus chapter or even in ONE book- these "switch ups" happened over multiple books.

Now let's look at Elain and Azriel.

In the context of the series, let's evaluate where these two stand in the two ways SJM does a love interest switch up:

1. Minor character romance switch up

- Are Azriel & Elain minor characters? ❌ no

- Did they share only one sentence or paragraph thinking about each other? ❌ no, they had multiple major scenes together

- Was it from a female POV? ❌ no

- do they only briefly show physical intimacy? Yes ✅

So clearly, Azriel and Elain don't fit into the first type of "switch up" she does. The only criteria they fit is that they have had one scene of minor physical intimacy.

2. Major character love interest switch

- Are Azriel & Elain main characters at this point? Yes ✅

- Did Azriel & Elain get a chance to fully explore their relationship and fall in love? No ❌

- Did Azriel & Elain get multiple books to cover this changing of feelings? No ❌

So clearly, Azriel and Elain don't fit into the second type of "switch up" she does either. The only criteria they fit is that they are both major characters right now.

Now what did we conclude as a result of this long ass post, if yall are still with me on this 10k hike?

Azriel & Elain have had buildup together that cannot be ignored.

They have been the main focus (Azriel's Hybern camp rescue of Elain was VERY similar to Nesta saving/willing to die for Cassain)

They have had clear romantic feelings for each other as evidenced by the bonus chapter

They have obstacles in place now (thanks Rhys).

There's foreshadowing in droves scattered throughout the bonus chapters and books.

The natural flow of the story supports Elriel

The POV before Elain's book is Azriel's not Lucien's

SJM is on the Today show talking about rejected mates

SJM has made Azriel step into the role Lucien should have been playing for Elain

If you're willing to ignore this and say "Gwynriel could have a 50/50 percent chance of happening bc of the singular bonus chapter" ... then go ahead. But don't act surprised when you get the next book in your hands and it's indeed Elriel 🤷🏻‍♀️

There is always a slight chance the author could do anything. That's like if I said "yeah - in every soccer game there's a chance the goalie could stop blocking shots and let the other team win."

Like yes. Quite literally they could do that. It's up to them.

But is it likely? No.

Will it go against everything they've set up and trained for? Yes.

SJM could write Gwynriel. She could write Azris then too, as that has equal buildup. She could write Nezris or Azquin. She could write anything. But that minuscule possibly of "anything could happen" doesn't affect typical calculations when it comes to statistics, so I don't know why it's playing a part here. SJM's plot does not defy the normal laws of physics and chance🙄

So at the end of this long walk, if you're still with me, I just want yall to know that yes SJM could do anything she wants she's the author - but Elriel is the most likely conclusion by far.

So, despite some shortcomings with me getting a bit behind (curse you sinus infection & finals week) I'm really happy with how this went!

I'll be taking a break for a bit and def will NOT be posting as much as I did near the end there, BUT I'll still be writing per usual, especially since I have two weeks left to my break. Before I get into what you can expect to see, wanted to do a quick interest check on whether people would like me to do something similar for Valentine's!

Since I'll be back at college again I won't be able to do a full month again, buuuut, I should be able to handle 14 days worth, if the interest is there I would open up requests probably the last week of January so I had time to get started/ahead. So,

Rules would be the same as for DCA December, except with a Valentine's Theme!

Now that that's taken care of, here's what'll be going on with me as we start 2025!

I'm working on Holiday Spirit ch. 2, should be posting either today or tomorrow! Still aiming to get it done before I go back to school so expect quicker updates now that requests are finished :) (you can find out more about this story here)

Confused Spirit ch. 36 is also in the works! I'll be honest in that my sinus infection JUST cleared up a week or so ago, and additionally i've been facing a bit of writer's block with the story just bc of where we're at and I want to make sure it's really good/properly expresses what I'm going for with this fic, but I'm working on getting more out to you all soon, as well as working on getting ahead again while I have time, thank you all for your paitence with this one, it's very appreciated <3 (if you don't know about Confused Spirit, you can find out more here, it's my current main dca project :D)

You were not-so-surprisingly able to understand his message and you tell him you like him too. He nearly faints. • On your first date, he’d take you to a small, nice diner and pay for everything. You start to worry about his savings, but he insists that he’s financially stable. (We all know he’s anything but.) • He contemplates on kissing you multiple times. It’s kept him up at night, the thought of your lips on his, but every time he actually tires, he ends up kissing your cheek instead • While on the topic of kisses, he loves kissing your hands, especially your knuckles. Like first off, im not isolated immediately that brings me up by like 45% like i can go see that forest, hang out with the (hopefully not going to bite me or give me rabies) animals pet some squirrels say hi to the hummingbirds, i can go into public and walk around, id honestly probably start skipping bc thats what ive imagined so far considering i wouldnt be as depressed as i am now

my brain's kinda dead after therapy today but has anyone ever thought about when aziraphale started writing diaries?

in 1827 he says he is on volume 603. now, we COULD simply assume that he uses one diary per year, which would put our starting date in 1224. however, there's two things that bother me about that line of thinking. it is a very late time to start writing diaries considering that paper and writing have been around almost as long as he has plus over six hundred volumes - that's some fucking dedication right there. he LOVES books and thus probably loves preserving stories in general, so the second he heard of diaries being thing he started keeping one. or maybe he even invented them.

on top of that, crowley and aziraphale do not perceive time like we do, and after almost six thousand years memorable events have probably become a bit rarer.

which leads us back to the question of when he started documenting those events.

we have to entirely guesstimate this but let's say the average diary he uses has 200 pages (notebooks have a big variety of page numbers and this one's easy to work with) and he writes a minimum of one entry a month across 4 single pages. we see him NOT use the backside of a page and his handwriting is quite large.

but he probably doesn't always have an entire story to tell and we do have one other entry that really isn't very long (which can be found in the bonus section of episode 3).

so if we go with 4 pages per entry on average we'd have 50 entries per diary. divided by 12 makes around 4 years contained within one volume.

4 x 603 = 2412

1827 - 2412 = - 585

585 AD is pretty damn early and doesn't really ring a bell and that's when we use some very generous numbers and assume he writes a lot.

but.

what happens when we loosen up a little?

let's say he doesn't write 12 entries per year and that the average is less than 4 pages of writing - let's give him some more time to fill 603 volumes which. again. is quite a fucking lot and there is the very real question of where he keeps them and if crowley has seen them.

anyway. more time. paper around 3000 BC but also heaven and hell don't stick to human developments and crowley had paper in heaven.

Personal Thoughts: This was my first ever batfam fic and it honestly ruined the rest of them for me. Hal is such a cool character and I'm always a sucker for ghost powers but the way the author writes them out and expands upon Hal's were really fun to see and experience. Romance is not exactly at the forefront of the story but her and Jason are still super adorable. I don't know a ton of the DC lore so I cannot speak to canonical accuracy but this is a very fun read and a nice mix of fluff, humor, and angst that I'm sure plenty of people will enjoy.

Personal Thoughts: The descriptions of this story are some of the most beautiful I've ever read. Despite being on the shorter side tibyim is a gorgeous piece with so much emotional depth and vibrant storytelling. Their reader character, only ever called by the title "Wanderer," develops such an interesting relationship with Dream and it is always so beautiful to read about over and over again. Reader does tend to be referenced as she and her as far as I can remember, so I hope that doesn't turn people off too much. The author also has some bonus content on their tumblr @the-darklings that I def recommend checking out if you enjoy the main story.

Jujutsu Kaisen

Personal Thoughts: This fic actually got me through the last few months of my senior year of college no joke. Ema is cool and cute but also weird and eldritch horror level terrifying. There's a lot more depth involved in terms of character exploration and world building and watching that through the lens of someone who knew about sorcery and was forced into playing the game against her will is such an interesting experience. So far the story exists in 3 parts and has only just sort of finished the events of JJK 0 but the pre-canon story lines are so interesting I promise you won't even care.

Two Halves; Hitotsu Marugoto by monowriter - Gojo Satoru x OFC

Abridged Synopsis: Juniper Smalls lands in Japan for the first time and proceeds to have a REALLY bad day. And it just continuously gets worse.

Personal Thoughts: Juniper is fucking hilarious and watching her take a no bullshit approach to Gojo's literal everything is wonderful in a way i didn't know i needed. Very OC lore heavy but it is integrated into the plot in a way that feels so natural. Learning about it at the same pace as Juniper really helps build intrigue and suspense and offers such a unique take on jujutsu society. honestly just a super great read all around. But just to keep people aware there is a bit of an age gap (Juniper is 22 and Gojo is 28 and it starts a bit after the prison episode in season 1).

Criminal Minds

Something Like a Star by recollins - Spencer Reid x OFC

Personal Thoughts: Pretty sure this is the first fic I ever read on ao3. I was in a big CM resurgence and really liked Aria's characterization. The author pulled from their own personal experiences and the story was actually a personal project for them to work through their own stuff (which they do mention in more detail in the foreword of the fic). Aria is so sweet and her personality meshed really well with the team, especially with Spencer (WINK WONK) and I found their relationship development so enjoyable to read. WARNING: the last updated chapter ends on a not so fun angsty cliffhanger, and has not been updated since (baby please come home the kids miss you) you have been warned.

Personal Thoughts: I really love this story bc I feel like it's different from a lot of time travel fix-its. From the very first chapter we don't know a single thing about Kiyoko or her past bc it's not even from her POV until like chapter 3. And the non-linear aspect does a good job balancing Kiyoko's intentions with her new reality and showing why she's so desperate for that change. Also the Uchiha clan is so crazy strong and I always forget. Basically two awkward child prodigies trying their best to fumble through peer interaction. Find the author here on tumblr @jjgrace42!

Personal Thoughts: This story is absolutely bat shit insane, fuck Shimura Danzo me and the homies hate Shimura Danzo. Very slow building but not in a way that drags the story down and although it follows a large group of OC's they are all very interesting and have pretty distinct personalities. It's not a traditional Naruto OC story but it is definitely intriguing and goes fairly into clan politics in a way that not many people might think about. The author doesn't have a tumblr but their twitter and discord is in their ao3 bio.

Great Ninja's Don't Make Great Parents by YuuTama - Kakashi Hatake x OFC

Hinode also gets a little kid crush on Sakumo and it's a little bit funny considering the fact that Kakashi gets such an obvious crush on her later on. But I’m not gonna complain get that bag girl she's got a type and she sticks to it.

Shisui is so adorable and his relationship with Mana is so naturally developing and very sweet to see. One minor hang up is that TECHNICALLY her and Shisui are cousins (her mother was adopted into Shisui's father's family and she married an Uchiha man) and I know that marriage within the clan is more normalized bc of their dojutsu and it's not super talked about but I wanted to at least mention it.

Attack on Titan

Personal Thoughts: (Sort of) enemies-to-friends with benefits-to-lovers. (Minor spoiler) there's a chapter from Levi's POV and I think it actually fundamentally changed me as a person. When I read this for the first time I read it again IMMEDIATELY afterwards and am probably gonna read it again after I finish this list. This is just a really fun and light read that kinda gives late 90s/early 2000s rom com vibes in the best way possible. Be warned: reader and Levi have a bit of an age gap as well (it’s never specified but reader is a first year in undergrad and Levi is a grad student I believe making him like 22/23? But I don’t think it’s ever fully specified and if it is I missed it lol).

Personal Thoughts: I thought this was a fun take on the RE universe, especially considering that after RE3 Carlos just...fucks off and doesn't return. Its sourced a lot from canon but it's an entirely original story that feels to seamlessly fit into the RE universe. The reader character ends up working as a tech analyst at the DSO and is a little reckless but very self sufficient and confident in themselves and their skills which I think was really cool.

Turns out the glorious justice she always imagined wasn't all it was cracked up to be and after being left behind in a war torn territory she was certain her life couldn't get any worse. The she was poisoned in the foot by a sadistic pirate doctor and nothing is ever the same.

Personal Thoughts: I discovered this in August, inhaled it in like 3 days, and then proceeded to re-read my favorite parts over and over for the next like month and a half like a mad woman. I still think about this story and the sequel all the time. Sophie and Law match each others' freak in a way that is somehow the dream and deeply concerning. They are so wonderful, I want what they have except not at all, you know? They're truly so weird and they embrace that weirdness fully and I adore them so much. Sophie's character development is so raw and real and so beautifully written. I cried multiple times reading this story and I don't usually cry over fics at all. It's funny and witty and balances the tone of OP that truly translates the heart and soul of the source material in such a seamless way and expands upon it wonderfully. Sophie's character may be a bit...annoying at first for some but it is a result of her growing up in the very clinical and isolating environment that is the World Government and personally I think it just makes her growth and the journey she goes on all the more satisfying to watch unfold. There is a bit of an age gap between Sophie and Law (she turns 18 in MNP and is 21 in the post-timeskip sequel to Law's 26), and it does come up a few times throughout. Personal Thoughts: Flirting but make it weaponized. Homura is so funny and flirty and Law HATES it. I love watching that man suffer positively as opposed to every other way he suffers. She is a very interesting character with a lot of mystery surrounding her past and it's written in a way that desperately leaves you wanting more. Also the original content plot arcs are so well written and culturally rich, I love OP fics that create their own islands and cultures.

Oregano is for Savages by Berylthemanatee - (future) Sanji x OFC

Personal Thoughts: I have very few words to explain the absolute wild ride this story is. Oregano (our OC) has had a difficult life that continues to get more difficult as the story progresses, but it's OP what do you really expect. There's a lot of world building and character development currently happening at the moment so it's looking to be a long-fic in the making but the plot is so compelling that you can't stop reading. It kind of reminds me of the way your eyes can't look away from the screen when you're watching a horror film. I just wanna wrap my little girl in a blanket and hide her away forever. Also there's really pretty art that goes along with some of the chapters and you can check some of it out at the authors' tumblr @berylthemanatee!

I expected a regular isekai fic but I was so SO wrong and it took a turn that was so interesting. And our protagonist (who whips out the fake name Shellie bc she's a modern girl with a sense of self preservation) has such a fun and feral personality that makes you really wanna root for her. The author doesn't have a tumblr but there's a user @thekraftcryptid who has done some really cool art for the story that I highly recommend checking out, although there are spoilers and quotes from the story in their pieces so you have been warned.

Personal Thoughts: It is such a realistic interpretation of the isekai genre that is unlike anything I’ve ever read before. Elynna wasn't a fan before entering the OP world, her sister was, and her entrance was so sudden and jarring that she continuously deals with it throughout the entire story so far. For her it's not just about adapting to your circumstances and trying to recall canon that she's not super familiar with, there are actual physical and psychological repercussions to her entering a world that was not and never will be meant for her. AND THERE'S LORE ABOUT IT GUYS THIS STORY IS SO GOOD!

Chiyoji is honestly such a funny heroine, she scares professional heroes twice her size but cannot function normally through a conversation with Aizawa without choking on her spit I’m so obsessed with her. Personal Thoughts: Short and sweet and so!! cute!!! Reading this was a bit like watching two really shy turtles try to interact but instead choose to sit in their shells really close to one another. It was such a fun read and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Reader is in the support course and she is such an anxious little mess bless her heart. Tamaki is such a cutie patootie and reader in this story is equally cutie and patootie and they deserve to cutie and patootie together!!! The Wanderer by thebipolarme - Gwaine x OFC

Abridged Synopsis: Marian Ragnell is summoned through time from 2014 to Arthurian England, interacting with the legends of her childhood in ways she never could have even dreamed of, including her favorite knight Sir Gwaine. But it doesn't really help that they get off on the wrong foot.

POTENTIAL TW: era typical views on women, language that is very offensive to women, angst, kidnapping, assault, depictions of blood and wounds, torture, war, there are a few chapters with chapter specific tags so i def recommend double checking those, Merlin typical violence

Personal Thoughts: I will admit I am a sucker for the "modern girl falling through time to the past" trope. This fic literally reignited my love for BBC Merlin and Gwaine specifically so fiercely I’m actually a bit concerned for my personal health. The author did a really good job balancing canon and original content and based some of her original chapter and her OC on the actual wife of Sir Gawaine in the legends, "The Loathly Lady" Dame Ragnelle, which I thought was really interesting. One thing I will say is that I wish there was a bit more character development between Marian and a few of the other characters but the interactions we do see definitely make up for it. Especially her interactions with Gwaine (which very much give Beatrice and Benedick from Much Ado About Nothing vibes). There were times that I laughed out loud reading not only their conversations but her conversations with the other characters as well. Marian is a self assured, head strong woman who knows what she wants despite the times she's forced to live in and there is something about her character that is just so lovable. Overall the story definitely reflects the tone of the source material rather well and although I have a few personal hang ups about it, it doesn't change the fact that I've already had to force myself to pace my second full read through despite only finding it a few days ago.

Personal Thoughts: I actually discovered this fic from TikTok. The author does some really cool artwork to accompany the story (and just in general) so I recommend checking them out at frogbee_studios and they have other socials tagged in the foreword of their story. Stephanie is so funny and so exhausted in a way that is entirely fitting for a child learning their dad is the god of wine and revelry and the (reluctant) guardian for a summer camp. It has such heard despite it being very early on in Stephanie's story an the comedy captures the heart of PJO perfectly. If you like creative demigod OC stories then this is one that I HIGHLY recommend.

Personal Thoughts: I really like vignette style stories and this concept is so interesting to me. When playing the game you don't really get a chance to explore Yuu's backstory (because it's designed for the player to be able to put themselves in the protagonists shoes), so I love seeing other people's takes on their characters and how they perceive Yuu to be. It's mostly just Gray talking about crazy things from the real world and the guys being so confused and I LOVE IT.

rlly excited to see where this goes and if it will parallel some of the stuff going on between nick and charlie. it'd be interesting to see both couples going through some shit at the same time. bonus being nick's oblivious, drunk ass being like SOO WHAT'RE YOU FIGHTING ABOUT... but smthn that has stood out to me in the webcomic is how little we see tao and elle's relationship (i mean, we are primarily in charlie's pov so it makes sense) and i've always wondered if all of these secondary school couples would make it. wishing for the best but i also won't be upset if tao and elle decide to amicably split. i wonder if their fight is about uni...

i love. love that nick's "whisper" is in cursive because from the dear-diary comic we see that nick writes in this half print/half cursive and i really like that specific detail as i feel like it shows a lot about his more gentle, sensitive nature esp since pre canon we know a lot of people (tao, cough) perceive him as a chavvish dude bro so seeing his action in half-cursive felt extra special :D. I love Nick having "girlier" handwriting i think it's cute.

so smthn this made me realize after last update is i'm wondering if nick started seeing their relationship as transactional after charlie returned from hospital and doesn't realize it. charlie helps nick come to terms with sexuality, nick helps charlie recover... charlie is better... where does that leave nick now that he's served his purpose? charlie is confident now, he knows what he wants, but nick doesn't; so what if charlie leaves him for someone more secure and better than he is now? i'm wondering if THAT'S what the root of his issues are at present is thinking that if he doesn't continue his being a great boyfriend thing, charlie will leave because it seems as if when nick wasn't 'the perfect son," his dad left and i think some of that trauma is bleeding into his relationship. which, while relatable is SOOO FUCKING TRAGIC I feel so bad for him. also i am fucking barking and gnawing at the bars of my enclosure bc like guys a couple months ago i was like oh ahaha isn't it so funny that we've never seen nick drink as much as his peers in canon?? GUESS FUCKING WHAT. TODAY IS MY LUCKY DAY. ALICE OSEMAN AND I HAD A BRAINWAVE CONNECTION ACROSS THE FUCKING ATLANTIC OCEAN BABY.

this is a win for me and nick nelson enjoyers everywhere i feel . what im wondering is if him being drunk and having this convo with tao and elle will either lead to two things. 1) either elle and tao tell him bc open communication and nick is historically a decent mediator and offers good solutions bc he's empathetic??? which may lead him to have conversations with charlie. 2) if they get mad at him for prying, i wonder if that will ruin the "merry" mood and possibly lead to nick and charlie having a fight later. but it seems to me nick and charlie are actually having similar insecurities.

which is a little bit ironic and just. very teenager of them tbh. i think charlie having the same insecurity for a while makes sense but seeing the same thing in nick is SO interesting to me bc if they would just talk, they'd def figure it out lickety split bc they're them. but both of them are literally having the : "Oh, he might leave me" moment, where I think maybe BOTH of them are having the same anxieties about how their relationship will change when Nick goes off to uni.

now. do i want nick and charlie to fight? idk. someone on reddit wondered if the roles would reverse and nick would yell at charlie and as much as i'd love to see that, i actually don't know if nick could get to that point while drunk bc he seems VERY happy right now. and as someone who can go from super happy to having a next level panic attack while plastered, i think what i'd like to see is nick having a full fucking meltdown/panic attack in front of charlie for what would be... maybe the first time in comics canon? I always see Nick's like out of body moments in season 2 episode 3 (bonfire episode) as a sort of dissociative anxiety episode, and i personally theorize that nick probably has more dissociative issues than he realizes but there isn't enough canon evidence to support that claim it is just based off of my opinion and how kit connor portrays nick's anxieties on screen and it WOULD make sense given how hypervigilant nick was when charlie was really ill that he'd start detaching out of mental exhaustion. i think it'd be really cathartic and necessary for nick to just absolutely come apart before he can come back together again bc i feel like the poor fella is bursting at the seams. we all know how i feel about ye old so emotionally overwhelmed you fucking yack bc i write it in my fics often but i think nick deserves it. darcy got their chaotic catharsis yack i think it's nick's turn to be the messy drunk. furthermore, if it gets so bad post-show that david has to pick them up???? YES PLEASE??? I doubt that'll happen but like david is home so im crossing my fingies for some david development there. but why i want it to be more of a breakdown instead of a full fight between the boys: - nick has been having issues for a MINUTE now and charlie has been noticing, so i don't think charlie would give back enough for them to fight at this point in time + he knows what it's like to be so emotionally messed up you get angry. i think he'd be more empathetic if nick started yelling at him or something. - nick has also had so much development in the show and webcomic and i think alice has said that the nick and charlie in the novella are more of an AU at this point bc the development just doesn't align. - so, i think we're leaning closer to nick having an emotional breakdown bc he's putting a lot of pressure on himself + the dream he had about charlie dying last week??? and as drunk as he is, if his walls are down, i think charlie could get through to him and it'd suck bc nick is drunk while it happens but it could be a talk. -secondary note on tao and elle: if they are communicating and nick sees that they have argued and are still talking, that COULD inspire him to try and talk to Charlie... maybe.... idk tho. it could also make him stuff more of his feelings down until he combusts... final observation: we know narlie end up making it but for the life of me i don't know if tara and darcy or tao and elle actually stay together post-canon.... so i'm wondering if that's also a direction alice is going right now.

You’d taken your time, setting up your special ring lights and tripod, writing down the questions you’d be answering during your video, and making sure all your makeup supplies were set out in an order that wouldn’t make it obvious which order they went in.

During your last live video, you’d been asked multiple times for your boyfriend to do your makeup for a video.

Now, your boyfriend was a busy man (being the number two hero and all), but your audience had been requesting his presence in a video for some time now and you had to admit the idea sounded quite fun. Keigo was always welcome to your ideas, happy to show up during your lives if your fans asked where he was and eager to help you with your set ups whenever you were going to film something new. He’d actually done a voice over for you once a few months back (your fans had went nuts over that) when you lost your voice post concert and you’d promised to get your routine up before a certain point so it shouldn’t be too difficult for him. That, and the fact that he liked to watch you get ready most days.

You’d tweeted out a week earlier for them to send in some questions as a bonus while he did your makeup.

“We ready, baby?”

A pair of familiar hands hugged you around the middle, your boyfriend resting his chin on your shoulder and kissing your cheek repeatedly.

“Just about, you wanna approve the questions we’ll be answering this video?” You asked, holding up the notebook for him to see.

“Nah, I’m an open book, plus I trust you chose appropriate questions.”

“The amount of people that are curious about our sex lives is insane.” You rolled your eyes as you took a seat on the floor and patted the spot next to you for him to sit too.

He glanced at the coffee table, you guessed he was trying to picture the order of things.

You started off the video with your basic greeting that you always used before introducing your boyfriend (as if he needed an introduction) and he grinned as he gave a wave to the camera,“I’ve been looking forward to this all week.”

A nervous smile lit up your face as you clapped your hands together and explained the gist of what your viewers would be seeing today,“As you all have been requesting, Keigo will be doing my makeup for me today. A bunch of you noticed he watches me get ready a lot and said he should be able to do it and—”

“I’d never turn down a challenge.” He cut in, smirking,“Trust me, I got this.”

“For my sake, I really hope so.” You then picked up your notebook,“As a treat so you guys won’t be too bored, I sent out an ask for questions, many of you guys always wonder about our relationship and while we do like to keep things private, we thought a little insider from us couldn’t hurt.”

“Do you know what you’re gonna start with?” You asked your boyfriend and he grinned, surprising you by picking up the correct item.

“You gotta prime your surface first, don’t ya?”

You turned your body toward him instead of facing the camera so he could begin, Keigo placed both hands on your face and kissed your nose before adjusting your position.

“Alright, first question.” He said as he uncapped the primer.

You glanced at your notebook out of your periphery,“How did you and Hawks meet?”

“Of course.” He rolled his eyes playfully as he rubbed the primer in with his fingers, letting it dry while he scanned the table for his next item.

He faced the camera briefly,“We met at the grocery store, we’re boring people, okay?”

“Truth.” You giggled, as you were sure people expected a much more exciting story.

Keigo, now armed with an eyebrow pencil, began running the brush through your brows before slightly marking a few empty spots. You grinned, he knew you so well.

“I’m sure many of you think we met at that gala where I interviewed Keigo on whether he preferred chicken or beef and he said—”

“Take me out to dinner and find out.” He quoted himself from that night.

You laughed,“Sorry to disappoint, but by then we’d actually been on a couple dates and I very much knew the answer to that question, I was asking stuff from his fans. We were pretty lovesick already at that point, I think, and then everyone started shipping us.”

“Unbeknownst to you all, we were seeing everything and just laughing.” Keigo chuckled.

He tapped his chin as he picked up an eyeshadow palette and opened it up to sniff it.

He searched the pile of brushes while you asked the next question,“What was your first date like?”

“Ooh, I have this one!” Keigo dipped his brush into what he guessed was your favorite color based on how much was missing,“Initially, I wanted to fly her to our date spot, but since I happened to know how deathly afraid of heights she was… I knew it wouldn’t happen — not on the first date, I thought — so we took a nice little stroll there, I picked her up and she was wearing a sparkly dress and looked oh so pretty—”

“There’s a picture of me in that outfit up on my accounts, actually, if you know you know.” You commented before he grabbed your chin and instructed for you to close your eyes.

“I took that picture.” He made sure to clarify, and you felt him tap something (glitter, you were guessing) into your inner eyelids as he continued,“Anyway, I had this gazebo set up really nice, lots of lights, flowers, cute shit, and we had dinner and talked the whole night, super romantic. By the end of it, she loved me—”

“Don’t lie!”

“You did, dove, I mean, c’mon, you let me fly you around by the end of it.”

“Okay, I did.” You sighed,“But only because you made me feel like I could really trust you.”

“And have I ever given you any reason to doubt that?” He looked into your eyes and again, you sighed.

“No…”

“Then?”

“Whatever. What’s next?” You pointed at your makeup pile that he was slowly going through, putting aside what he’d already used.

He went through and placed foundation all over your face, making sure to blend it into your neck while you went through a few more questions.

“Who does Hawks’s eyeliner?” You giggled.

Your boyfriend scoffed, facing the camera with a deadpan expression on his face,“Okay, I’m saying this once and only once, much to contrary belief, the ‘eyeliner’?” He rubbed at his eye and even dragged his finger down,“Is not makeup, it’s not a part of my costume or a fun little gimmick, the closest I can get to explaining it is a beauty mark. It’s permanent.”

“You tell ‘em, babe.” You continued to laugh, only to stop as he picked up your actual eyeliner.

“Just for that we’re gonna replicate this on you.”

“Awe.” You pouted,“I can’t pull that off.”

And he knew it too since you only ever applied eyeliner very minimally.

“Shush and hold still.” He paused the step he was on to attempt the new look for your eyes.

“I’d like you all to know, Keigo is very much holding his breath right now and his mouth is wide open, he’s definitely one of us.” You said smugly, an inside joke only those who wore makeup and did anything eye related could understand.

“Hold on, shh.” Your boyfriend paused as he swiped a finger under your eye and held out your fallen eyelash to you,“Make a wish.”

This wasn’t a rare occurrence actually, you often lost many eyelashes due to rapid blinking whenever your eyes became strained and he loved for you to make wishes. You often did the same to him; and so you closed your eyes and thought of your wish before tossing the tiny thing over your shoulder.

He grinned and pecked your lips a few times, satisfied that the lash hadn’t stuck to you because it meant your wish would be granted,“So what’d ya wish for?”

For this to never end.

You smiled back,“Can’t tell, won’t come true.”

He pouted, but knew the rules just as well. He finished up his eyeliner and immediately resuming his last step. Now you were the one pouting,“I wanna see.”

“Nope, wait until the end.”

“Boo.”

“Next question, lovebird.”

You continued through the questions until Keigo seemed satisfied enough with your looks, finishing off with a kiss to seal the deal and you smiled,“Done?”

“Mhm.”

“No lipstick?”

It genuinely made me laugh out loud! “Shadows disappearing is confirmed good by HOFAS!” I was confused at first thinking when tf did that happen.. and then had a chuckle when I realized they were talking about Ruhn.

I typically stay out of the subreddit, and have their tags blocked on here, but I was curious to see what theories or hints they gathered from HOFAS. Seems like the bulk of it is:

- ruhnlidia “parallel” confirms mate language for e/riel from the bonus (or something like that, I’ve forgotten which precise passage they warped).

- stone mother song is about elain (vast stretch, seems punitive to focus on the song and not everything else that happened in that scene). And is so fucking interesting because that’s a bonus chapter and they’re still claiming BC aren’t canon/down voting when you point out they are. Can’t seem to make up their minds !

- today show article & interview about fans expecting the story to be Az & Elain, and SJM saying there’s a lot to explore in a rejected bond. The first is whatever imo, and the second they seem convinced is about them but I’m more convinced it’ll be Eris & Mor. Admittedly, Helion & LoA is another possibility more likely than e/riel, but their story breaks my heart already and I desperately want them to have HEA

The Stone Mother argument being about E/riel is just bonkers to me. First off, we have no idea if the song itself is actually based off Native American legend or whether SJM just liked the name. But to take a Paiute legend and claim it about a white women's love story is very cringe to me. I agree with you, I think the rejected bond is going to be Eris and Mor and the effects of an unaccepted bond will be Helion and the LoA. I could see them eventually getting together but for the last however many centuries, they do seem to be an example of a "rejected" bond. And you're right, they have selected very specific lines from the interviews and articles while ignoring the rest. First SJM said she only asks herself those same questions when writing. Is there choice? Is it destiny? What if it's wrong? But she's already written that into the series, where the characters wonder how it happens, is there choice, etc. And every time, the characters have said that it doesn't matter because at the end of the day they still chose one another. Bryce confirms that it didn't matter where her bond with Hunt came from or who it was determined by because it's what she wanted. Nesta struggled with the mating bond because it meant giving up her humanity but in the end she decided she wanted Cassian as her mate. They take that to mean SJM is proving to the reader that she's definitely going to write a rejected bond for two main characters when all she's saying is she makes sure to have the characters ask themselves the important questions so in the end they know without a doubt it's what they wanted and not just something decided by fate. But they ignore SJM saying that characters end up with who they need to be with for the most growth. How her MMC cheer on the FMC and encourage her. These things clearly go against the E/riel narrative but they conveniently leave those quotes out of their arguments. The one big argument I heard going around during the release was how the Cauldron was corrupted therefore Elucien's bond is. So basically.....an event that happened 15,000 years ago and in all that time the ONLY corrupted bond to come out of it was Elucien's? That's quite convenient, don't you think? There is also zero proof that the Cauldron or the Daglan were responsible for mating bonds. So yeah, I imagine all these theories will end up in the graveyard of E/riel theories along with Bread and Roses meaning that E/riel are living together and pregnant in CC3.

cleaned a large map today and since it was a prison block, like everywhere looked the same and i kept getting lost AND it was two floors so i was like 'fuck this im not carrying fifty trash bins up and down the stairs. and also. there were like 3 laser weld guns scattered around so i just went nuts with the laser.

no trash bins? no problem! laser everything into carbonized meat chunks. laser them harder and make them disappear. mop up the soot afterwards

the problem is i like the bonus points so i do my 'homework' at the end of the map but there were like. a bajillion victims i had to actually write notes on paper bc i ran out of virtual notepad space lmao

buuuuuuut i saved that for the very end, which means next time i log in it's time for paperwork and then i get to go check i didn't leave any trash

silver lining of this big confusing map: NO FUCKING BULLETS!!! my god. i've never found the correct number of casings and holes to fill. EVER! like where the fuck are they, i check every nook and cranny!!! makes me mad lmao

maybe i'll find more the more i repeat the maps idk, i'm trying to do one instance of each map and then maybe go back and do the ones i liked again. it's just soothing ig. being able to affect noticeable visual change feels nice. also its really funny to forget lanterns are smashable and turn around too close to a wall. hope you didn't want your eyebrows!

song of the tulips.

DAY 7 YAYYYYYYYY we going out with a bang here people. this is probably the longest one ive written for this event

today, i went with a crown of flowers upon the head + picnicking among nature’s beauty + a dance of blooming roses ! okay that last one is kinda untrue bc i wrote about tulips instead bc apparently theres a tulip garden in san fran and it's amazing bc tulips are my fave flowers. crazy

this is actually a sequel to my day 2 entry ! you dont have to read that one to get this one but you'll get the references i put here if you do!! also a little disclaimer this one is kinda suggestive. nothing too wild, just a joke and a subtle nudge but yeah. if i could write smut i wouldve done it for these two believe me (not for this week/event but in general)

Queen Wilhelmina Garden is fairly far from where they reside in Haight Street, especially if they are to ride there on Joe’s bike. Luckily for the couple, Joe has a rare moment of pure genius (yet a common moment of money spending for Paper Cut).

A peaceful smile creeps onto Paper Cut’s face, relieved that his lover took his advice to heart. It’s not uncommon since Joe sort of sees Paper Cut as the all-knowing doctor but it does well to remind himself that the biker is as stubborn as Paper Cut himself.

“Wow, you actually bought a car this time around.”

And beautiful it is. Paper Cut does notice something about it though.

“Yeah! Look at her – beautiful, ain’t she?”

“Considering it’s the exact same model as the car you rented that weekend in summer, I’m guessing you got emotionally attached to that car.”

Joe lets out an awkward laugh then falls silent, and so does his smile.

“...We don’t talk about that car.”

Right on the money, Paper Cut thinks. He’ll humor his boyfriend.

“Anyway, shall we get going then?”

A smile that can rival the sunshine instantly makes its way to Joe’s lips.

“Last one to get in the car is a rotten egg!”

“And soooooo Sally can wait…”

“She knows it’s too lateeeee as we’re waaalkin’ on by~”

It’s full-on karaoke mode in that freshly-bought car. Though Paper Cut always insists he won’t sing along (“I’m not as good as you.” “It’s not about being good, babe, it’s about having fun!”), a part of him subconsciously makes him belt out to radio hits either way.

“Man, I love music.”

Paper Cut’s confession prompts Joe to let out a hearty laugh. The freedom in Paper Cut’s singing voice is already proof of that fact but it’s nice to hear it from the man himself. Then Joe has a flashbulb moment.

“I oughta take you out to the disco sometimes.”

“Oh God, no thank you. Too many sweaty people dancing in one small, dark room sounds like a nightmare.”

Joe often attempts to drag Paper Cut into social situations knowing he won’t ever do it himself. As introverted as he is, he’s still a social creature as far as Paper Cut’s concerned.

Joe had expected this response. The reasoning is just a bonus. But his spirit is not broken so easily (which is merely a delicate way of saying he’s stubborn).

“When you put it that way, it sounds like one! Don’t worry baby boy, I’ll make sure you’ll have a good time.”

Paper Cut falls into red, bashful silence at the phrase “baby boy”, cursing himself for being so weak to pet names as such, but especially that one. Joe only smirks, knowing his victory is sealed. After a minute, Paper Cut sighs.

“Okay, but still, I don’t dance.”

Well, now he’s just straight up lying, Joe thinks.

“You did yesterday. I saw you.”

Joe genuinely thinks this is a good argument – it would be if it weren’t for the fact that Paper Cut was not made aware of this fact.

“It is very not nice to peep on people!”

Paper Cut gives Joe’s shoulder a light hit, the blush never leaving his face. Joe manages to scratch the back of his head in shame with one hand.

“Yeah okay, but you looked like you were having a good time!”

“Keep your hand on the steering wheel, dammit!”

The two keep on bantering for the rest of the journey, the radio karaoke forgotten entirely.

They wouldn't say the idea of having a picnic here is anything original but they definitely expected less picnic blankets strewn about. But it's a pleasant sight – friends, couples, families, even individuals are out here surrounding themselves with nature's beauty with sandwiches in hand.

Thankfully, despite the amount of people, the couple still manages to find a spot for just the two of them, a little ways away from the rest of everyone else just in case Paper Cut gets too anxious (and in case Joe wants to initiate some “socially unacceptable” PDA – the two tries not to lament on the fate on couples like them too much).

They start unpacking their lunches – fried rice and fruit juices courtesy of Paper Cut, mineral water and (of course) sandwiches courtesy of Joe.

“Man, you’re out here serving us food like we’re kings meanwhile I just brought us plain-ass water and peanut butter jelly sandwiches like we’re kindergarten kids.”

The exaggeration pulls out a laugh from Paper Cut.

“C’mon, it’s not that serious. As long as it doesn’t kill me, I’ll put it in my mouth. And no, that’s not your cue to joke about you-know-what.”

A pout makes its appearance which Paper Cut ignores in grace, continuing to set up their little picnic spot with a little hum of a radio hit on his lips. With gentle sunlight and the scent of newly-bloomed tulips embracing the couple, Paper Cut feels like he’s a budding plant himself.

They start digging into their food; Joe sees this as a prime opportunity to gossip about the going-ons of their neighbors and the neighborhood kids while Paper Cut relishes in people-watching from their place.

At some point, Joe, being the kinaesthete that he is, gets up to walk around the garden but not without a quick heads-up to Paper Cut. Paper Cut, on the other hand, takes this as his cue to dominate the picnic blanket and lie down as if he’s making a snow angel (a picnic blanket angel, maybe). He soaks up the sun while he can, before he eventually retreats into his “man cave” as some locals have described his residence.

He tries to gain some inspiration from the springing of mother nature that surrounds him. Grass greener than the other side, the rows and rows of tulips in different hues reminiscent of a Holland rainbow, laughter tickling his sensitive ears, and skies as blue as his lover’s gentle eyes. Paper Cut never thought it was possible to feel this alive. Should this even be a bandage? It is an emotion so heavenly that it may transcend corporealness.

“Enjoying yourself, arent’cha?”

All things come to an end, yes, but beautiful things can begin right after. Joe snaps his boyfriend out of his trance with his teasing voice and the beautiful skies he has for eyes. In addition, he comes bearing gifts, which he then proceeds to rain down on his boyfriend who’s in the process of sitting up. Literally.

“What the–”

He is met with a shower of flowers and their healthy green stems, in which he tries to shield his face from by dropping his head and raising his hands, forming futile gates. Joe giggles and as he sits down, utters a quick apology for the prank. Paper Cut doesn’t take his teasing to heart but he pretends to sulk anyway, prompting his lover to elaborate on the sudden appearance of flowers separated from their fields and gathered on their picnic blanket.

“There’s a bunch of stray flowers around so I just hoarded them for no reason. But then this really nice lady taught me how to make flower crowns for them so that kinda took a bit of my time. You don’t mind, right?”

Paper Cut gives his lover a small laugh at his recount of his little walk. It’s difficult to get mad at this guy.

“Not at all. It’s very ‘you’ to already be making friends out here.”

Joe guiltily rubs a hand on the back of his head either way, offering an apologetic smile. His boyfriend merely shoots him a knowing glance.

“So lemme guess… you wanna try making flower crowns with me?”

Paper Cut starts to fiddle with a flower, staring at it curiously. He doesn’t have any kind of flower crown knowledge or experience so it’ll make for an interesting activity.

“Yeah! We can make them for each other!”

Joe is beaming once more. If the sun ever feels like retiring, Joe can easily fill in the vacancy.

“Haha, alright then.”

Well, at least he can say he tried his best?

For a first attempt, he’d say it’s not that bad. His demons are fighting amongst themselves to whisper in his ear that it could’ve been better while Paper Cut himself basks in the simplicity of having had fun making the flower crown.

“You finished?”

Paper Cut looks up from where his crown lay in his lap at the question and merely nods, a bit shy to show off his creation. Meanwhile, Joe raises his own like a well-earned trophy.

“Ta-da!”

The boundless wonder in his eyes can only make Paper Cut smile tenderly, matching the demure nature of the flower crown Joe made – all pale pink and yellow tulips, it’s a color combination that Paper Cut thinks is spring itself.

“It’s beautiful.”

“Not as beautiful as you.”

That is all he can muster up to say aloud. There is a proud twinkle in Joe’s eyes that eventually transitions into an affectionate one, once he places the flower crown on his boyfriend’s head.

Paper Cut is as red as the flowers on his lap now and he averts his gaze out of embarrassment. A light chuckle escapes his lover’s lips but he doesn’t say anything else.

“W-Well… I made this. It’s not as good as yours but…”

The blushing boy somehow manages to mutter and, still without looking at his lover, outstretches his hands to show Joe his flower crown. It is a dance of crimson tulips, and Joe can feel Paper Cut’s deep love and passion in his creation.

“Cut… this is the prettiest thing I’ve ever laid my eyes on. Aside from you, I mean.”

That manages to bring a laugh out of Paper Cut, his embarrassment subsiding slightly. He rises to his knees as Joe leans down to aid him in placing the crown on his head. They both laugh this time and Joe makes the first move to revert to his original position, allowing the flower crowning ceremony to resume.

They then proceed to gaze into each other’s eyes, both enamored by each other and unsure of what to do next with all this tension. But as usual, Joe initiates – once the two of them are within suitable proximity, he leans in for a delicate kiss. Paper Cut takes a second to overcome his shock and then reciprocates.

The world around seems to dissolve as they kiss and as Joe shifts to lay Paper Cut down. The former leans down once more to plant more kisses which the latter returns with no hesitation. Mother Nature sways in a sudden breeze, as if to shield them from prying eyes.

It is until Paper Cut lets out a little noise that clarity hits him like a truck. He instantly puts a hand between his face and Joe’s to stop him from continuing.

“Okay okay okay, I think that’s enough. We’re in public, remember?”

He insists as he watches Joe’s consciousness snap back into place as well. Joe only sighs, whether satisfied with their little love session or discontent that he was interrupted, Paper Cut doesn’t know. But it’s a reminder much needed for the both of them.

“It’s easy to forget when I’m around you, really.”

This time Paper Cut only rolls his eyes in amusement. His lover truly takes any chance to charm him to death.

“Corny.”

Joe guffaws as he pulls Paper Cut to sit up together.

“You like it though.”

Paper Cut lets out a brief “hah”, now leaning on Joe’s shoulder. Joe follows suit.

“I didn’t say I didn’t like it.”

They enjoy each other’s company for the remainder of the afternoon until they eventually have to head home (“Actually, can we stop by a mosque on the way home? It’s getting kind of late.” “Honey, you should’ve told me earlier, I’d hate for you to miss your prayer because of me!”). More bantering and singing ensue in their little car, with the addition of another kissing session once they’re actually home. But perhaps, home is wherever and whenever they’re together.

Spring is the season for the new, and the flower crowns that adorn their home walls mark the beckoning of a new chapter for the couple.
