PROGRESS UPDATE!

so... i finally made some very good progress. i revised the whole TCS chapter for each individual route and decided to branch them off in different directions. this gave me a huge amount of headache, but ultimately, i was able to scrape off the irrelevant parts and start the rewriting process. this is gonna be highly rewarding, but also a pain in my ass. i'm not regretting it so far tho

on another note, i finally finished writing chapter one of the not-so-top-secret greek mythology project (discord peeps know what's up 👀) i was working on. i'll be writing chapter two in-between the rewriting of TCS. i had my girlfriend, aka the loml (@acourtofserpents <3), unintentionally end up being my editor and she likes it so far. she may be a little biased but it was still pretty good to hear. it will be released before TCS as i've already completed the first chapter and i wanna gauge if it's received well enough to make a blog of its own tbh.

★ i have been writing since early age, as far as i can remember i was around 11-12 (but i would write stories in my notebooks)

★ english is NOT my first language

★ my favorite season is fall

★ i am a fan of WWE, kpop, Harry Potter, Stranger Things, Squid Game, Scream, Friday The 13th (basically horror movies)

★ my favorite characters in TVD are : Bonnie, Kai, Stefan and Klaus

★ my favorite in Metallica is Kirk the loml

★ i listen to various genres of music (from music from the 80's-90's, to 00's hits, to genres like edm, house, techno, dubstep, pop, darkwave, phonk, you name it!)

★ i also listen to (and love) KISS (Eric Carr, Eric Singer, Peter Criss and Ace have my heart)

★ i prefer cold over heat, but i hate winter

★ i do my own nails at home far from a professional though

★ even though i own an electric guitar, i cannot find the patience to learn how to play it as much as i would love to

First Listen Thoughts

Note: I went into this with next-to-no expectations or theories

Fortnight sounds dated in an 80s synth-y way, I can imagine this in a movie montage with a furious edge to it. I was not expecting to hear Posty singing but he has a surprisingly nice voice. A few listens for it to become a favourite.

The Tortured Poet's Department has a similar effect, cinematic and classic Antonoff. I got jumpscared by the Charlie Puth line and hearing my name. I want this to be a favourite but I feel this is about the 1975 guy so it's ruining it for me

Favorite Toys This is classic Swift and has some Lana vibes lyrically but in a Bleachers-esque wrapping.

Down Bad Interesting opening, lots of imagery, aggravated vibes and I don't blame her. I can see why the next song is --

So Long, London I love the vocals at the beginning acting like church bells and how they're layered in various points. Lyrics hit me right in the chest. Definitely one of the best on the album.

But Daddy, I Love Him gives me Red vibes, also 'no I'm not but you should see your face' GIRL

Fresh Out the Slammer The tempo change in the middle threw me off a bit which makes the ending feel a bit rushed/unfinished?

Florida!!! I was looking forwards to this one the most because of my girl Flo and it delivered in the details and vocal arrangements and big dramatic sound!!!

Guilty as Sin? OK this is cute, very flustered crush / falling in love vibes. It's making me smile.

Who's Afraid of Little Old Me is a little cringe but I'm getting mad woman vibes from the theme but I love the instrumental, esp the beat and harp hints. It's hitting hard for me as someone that struggles with PTSD-induced anxiety and paranoia.

I Can Fix Him I like the idea and the music but Taytay if it's about who I think it is girl he's not worth this Bonnie and Clyde romanticization

For books that remind me of ‘One Day’ (and therefore encapsulate the vibe I was going for in this fic). Heavy on themes of intimate relationships between two people, nostalgia, time and growing up.

‘This Time Tomorrow’ by Emma Straub: gorgeous insight into getting older and a push for change, explores the relationship between a father and daughter beautifully

‘Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow’ by Gabrielle Zevin: masterful characters and structure. Two friends work as video game designers. The publisher’s tagline is brilliant: ‘It’s not a romance, but it is about love.’

‘Amy & Isabelle’ by Elizabeth Strout: one of those books I know I’ll appreciate even more when I get older. Mother and daughter relationship: if you resonated by Greta Gerwig’s ‘Ladybird’, you’ll love this one.

‘The Time Traveller’s Wife’ by Audrey Niffenegger: It’s famous for a reason. The most original love story I’ve ever read and with such genius and tender plotting that demands rereading.

‘Normal People’ by Sally Rooney: melancholic and bittersweet (aka it was the ‘One Day’ that I didn’t like quite as much as ‘One Day’ but also guys it’s a good book c’mon let’s be fr here)

Romances I’ve enjoyed (these are probably very popular but there are so many shite ones that I’ll vouch for these):

Ali Hazelwood books. I am so adamant that this woman is an absolute legend and her books only get better. Loved her most recent (‘Love, Theoretically’), it’s too fun.

‘Book Lovers’ by Emily Henry. Emily Henry loml.

‘Love and Other Words’ by Christina Lauren: ICONIC friends-to-lovers

For STEM-y books I enjoyed, I liked:

‘Lessons in Chemistry’ by Bonnie Garmus: the main character is absolutely brilliant and I’m the world’s most devout feminist so of course I devoured this book. (Although constantly calling table salt NaCl did annoy me juuust a little. Yes salt is primarily composed of sodium chloride but it’s not purified so calling it NaCl is just a bit silly)

‘The Code Breaker’ by Walter Isaacson: non-fiction (gasp!) but I find CRISPR so interesting. Biography about Jennifer Doudna, the Nobel Prize winner who essentially transformed the world of genetic engineering.

Miscellaneous books I’ve enjoyed:

‘Tender is the Flesh’ by Agustina Bazterrica: chilling dystopia, excellent narration from perspective character, so disgusting and gory

‘Fingersmith’ by Sarah Waters: not usually a fan of historical fiction but Sarah Waters is the loml, brilliant plotting, crime fiction

‘Vladimir’ by Julia May Jones: devoured it in a day. Dark and sensual, with such a sharply-characterised perspective character.

‘The Charioteer’ by Mary Renault: one of the first books to write an unapologetically positive portrayal of homosexuality. Essential reading for any lgbt+ person who likes reading, imo: stands on the same level as ‘Giovanni’s Room’ or… literally any Sarah Waters novel. I read it for background research on a far-off WW2 fic I want to write but ended up loving it. Really sweet.

I think I saw somewhere Candice calling stefan the love of Caroline's life but I'm not sure if I'm mixing it up with something else.I'm sure there was no such scene on the show though.Do you remember seeing any such interview?

I know Candice called Stefan Caroline's endgame but can't remember if she said loml, I thought she said it to Bonnie in 8x15 but when I watched that episode a few months ago she didn't say it. TBH I actually like that neither of them directly said it, because that's what they called Elena and Tyler and I like that it showed the difference. They were better than true love, they were best friends who fell in love completely on their own day by day bit by bit year by year.

rp pet peeves : people who shit on younger/less "skilled" writers / blogs that don't use a shit ton of fancy fonts and images, people who harass others for responses (either ic or ooc), people who make drama out of what's supposed to be a fun hobby, and my most famous pet peeve of all: people who contribute (even unintentionally) to the insane amount of misogyny in the rpc by nitpicking, harassing or outright ignoring female muses and muns. same goes with any marginalized identity, i just think the misogyny is often ignored or brushed over which makes me want to be even louder about it.

fluff, angst, or smut : i have been known to dabble in all three <3

plots or memes : i generally tend to start things with memes due to my ridiculously annoying bouts of anxiety, but i love plotting, even if it doesn't end up being a thread :).

long or short replies : i tend to match or go over my partners' reply lengths - not out of expectation that they do the same, but i don't like leaving people with super-short responses if they've written a novel and sometimes the inspiration hits.

time to write : whenever the adhd goes "it's time to write right now or you'll suffer a cartoonish demise".

are you like your muses : yes and no - for jane, i definitely see a lot of myself in her (and project even more ONTO her), but i do enjoy writing characters who are completely different - i think you can see a bit of yourself in everyone, however small.
